They had a nice selection of cars, and my Chevy Malibu served us well. It was good on gas mileage, and it handled very well. Returning the car was very convenient.Hidden costs and no attendants when arriving to the car selection garage are my only two complaints. After about 10 minutes, I finally caught-up with someone when I saw him returning a car to another area. My designated area was completely out of cars, but he pointed me in the right direction. The rest went smoothly.
Young man dancing in the parking lot when we returned our rental in Tampa airport. He was great and you can see he loves his job! Thank you young man for making everyone smile. Just a simple thing, can make so many people happy! Give that man a raise! I wish I knew his name! God Bless you!
I did not have a good experience at this location. I waited in line for a full hour only to be treated rudely and be told that they didn’t have the care i reserved. They really need to fully staff on weekends and mentor their front line staff on customer service.
NEGATIVE 100 stars! First off, the representative I spoke with on the last phone never mentioned underage ( under 25) fee for renting. I specifically ASKED if it matters if a driver has to be a certain age to rent the representative said “ As long as the driver is 21 and up.” I thought I was good because I am 21 and up. Then when I go to pick up the car I was hit with the underage fee which was NEVER mentioned whatsoever. Customer service SUCKS here because they won’t accommodate for THEIR MISTAKE. Second, the car I rented had ROACHES! I had the AC on so there was no way bugs could get in from the windows. I had a cup with juice in the cupholder, I left the car for a while and came back with bugs in it! The next day there were even MORE ROACHES crawling everywhere. Absolutely horrible experience.
0 ⭐️ I’m a nurse and my boss rented car for me. When I arrived they said they needed my card on file. No problem. Charge card 430 and said 200 would be returned. (Pre paid gas. Insurance. Tolls) no problem. I return home and check account they charge my card 843.00 and won’t let me speak with supervisor regarding transaction. NEVER AGAIN
You know, when employees dont care then you get negative feedback, I was treated as nuisance when I asked that my rental to be changed from Nissan Altima with Kentucky plates to Chevy Malibu with FL plates, because as a local I dont want to drive around with out of state plates and in the car which is heavy on gas. There were 4-5 Malibus in the parking but lady didnt feel like to do some extra paper work so I ended up driving Nissan for next 7 days
If I can leave 0 stars I would!!! This been by far the worst experience I have ever went through. Please dont rent a vehicle from this car rental. They charge you for insurance you never agreed too. I went on a honeymoon on 6/26/21-7/2/21 and got a car rental from this place through Expedia. After several time of saying I didnt need insurance I noticed I was charged for several insurance through thrifty. I didnt noticed the charge until 2 days before bringing the rental back. Lets just say after speaking to a supervisor for Thrifty she was so rude and yelling at me saying that it was my fault for not noticing it before. I left out of that place crying and they didnt help me what so ever. Im still fighting for reimbursement. Please stay away and dont get a rental from this place.
I reserved a vehicle three months earlier before my flight and it roughly around 300 dollars for a week. I get there a few hours early for my vacation and the lady that helped me created a completely new reservation ignoring my deposit reservation. I asked her if it was okay to get the car early and she said yeah, no extra charge so I used my card thinking Ill get both deposits back when I return the car. I get home from vacation and my total was another 400 dollars to top of the reservation I already made. I called and asked if Ill at least get my $300 deposit back and they said no. Lol definitely my first and last experience with thrifty.
If only I could give 0 stars. My wife and arrived at Thrifty at 2:10 by 4:30 we were told that we needed to go downstairs and wait in another line. Keep in mind we HD reserved a car months in advance and had a conformation number. We finally got a car and it was dirty. When asked if Thrifty could do anything to make the situation better, we were told no. Thats it. Period. Just count yourself lucky they had a car for us. THANKS THRIFTY. Wont be recommending you
I was apprehensive by the numerous bad reviews. I pleasantly and thankfully didnt have that. however I was prepared to wait up to 2 hours like everyone was saying. it helps not to rent during peak hours or weekends. i arrived to the airport late night flight from DC. i checked in online before heading there and i had all my documents in order. ready for the worst like up to 2-3 hour wait. i got there and i was happy to say it couldnt go any smoother. the person at the desk was nice and knowledgeable he sawed i did everything online before getting there and so a few questions License and CC and I was on my way out to my destination. note to people if you arent leaving the Tampa bay area you really do not need the sunpass for tolls. i got it cause i was thinking in driving to Orlando to for family, didnt do it. but Im just one of those people that rather be safe than sorry.
I would give no stars for dishonest and outright corrupt customer service, if possible. While at the counter, discussing rental package options, I erroneously expected honesty. I had just gotten off a terrible and delayed flight with two children in tow. I said NO to extra charges such as “Premium road side service” and was charged anyway. I did not see this when I signed at the end. Vehicle engine light lit up during our trip, mileage only 67,000 miles. I will never use this dishonest company again. I hope customer loss was worth $60
Terrible experience. I went with Thrifty because it was the cheapest option to visit my sick father-in-law in Florida on short notice. It was still not cheap. Despite booking my reservation for a certain time, I received an automated confirmation with a different time. According to Google they close at 10PM, but after a half hour of waiting to talk to a human being at the head office, I found out that theyd actually be open until midnight. When we arrived, there was only one employee at the Thrifty desk in the airport. Someone from Hertz (same company) came over to take a few customers and it was a mistake for me to follow them. Everyone who was behind me at the Thrifty line was served before I was. Was given vague instructions on where to go. Wandered around the rental car lot for 20 minutes before I found a human being, who was more or less lurking in the shadows. He told me to just take any car. Weird.Car itself was fine, and drop-off process was quick. When I received a bill for toll charges, I realized why Thrifty/Dollar/Hertz are so sketchy and vague. They hit you with a $10 administrative fee for EACH toll. I racked up $3.49 in tolls, but $40 in these BS fees. Will never do business with Thrifty or its associates again, and will tell others to avoid as well.
Melissa was fantastic! We got a great deal on a fun upgrade! The line was short and it felt like we had a friend hook us up. Thats how customer service should always feel. Thanks Melissa!! 👏👏👏
I was so hesitant to use thrifty after seeing all these bad reviews. When searching for a rental it was over $100 cheaper so I decided to go for it. I ended up having a really good experience. When I got there I ended up only having to wait about 10 minutes to get a vehicle. I think I had an easy experience as I wasn’t flying during a peak time. I landed on a Wednesday afternoon. The employees were nice and helpful.
I can see I am not the only one to have had problems with these guys. My girlfriend and I reserved a car, Thrifty took the money from my girlfriends credit card immediately. When we went to pick up the vehicle a few days later they told her that they would not accept that same credit card they had already taken money from so we could not get a car.Now we are due a refund and were told it could take anywhere from 2 to 10 business days. They really screwed us up by taking that money and not refunding it right away when they wouldnt give us a car. We had to make other arrangements and ended up spending a lot of time and money last minute.Today is the 10th business day and still we have not been refunded which has prompted me to write this review. We will now have to try contacting them again. This whole ordeal has been a nightmare.
2 and 1/2 hours of waiting (with a pre-made reservation) only to receive a dirty car. When I asked I was told nothing could be done. I was also told that Thrifty, Hertz, and Dollar were all one and the same. A really disappointing way to start my vacation.
Im so glad I didnt listen to the reviews on this one. Though the wait was long (only reason for 4 stars) the line moved swiftly. We had reservations and got a great car, clean and full gas. Just schedule about an hour wait time into your schedule. The cheapest rates at the airport.
Honestly, I was so nervous about booking our car rental here because of the bad reviews, but we had a great experience. Yes, the line was extremely long (backed up all the way to the train) but it went by fairly quickly. We waited in line for about an hour. The guy we spoke to was very friendly and didn’t try to upsell us on anything. He asked if we wanted to buy the toll pass option and we said no. Based on the reviews from the toll prices, we made sure to set our GPS to avoid tolls and we were fine our entire trip. Drop off was effortless and they gave us a great rental car. No problems and our deposit was refunded the same day we dropped the car off. If you have the patience to wait in a long line you will be fine.
When I arrived at the airport, one person was working the counter for three rental companies. They worked at a snails pace. When finished, I was told to go to the 5 star area and pick a full size car from what was available - not knowing what a full size car constituted of, I had to seek help from the gold desk, which led to me picking anything I wanted from the 5 star area. Le sigh
Cindy in drop off was extremely helpful and friendly. Thank you so much!
If I could give this a half star I would. The Ford explorer that I rented was completely filthy and was falling apart. Then when you return the vehicle they look at you like you destroyed it. I would not recommend renting from them.
I needed to speak to someone at the actual location where I am picking up the vehicle and they have absolutely no means to do so and no one in the company knows how to transfer and/or provide a number to the actual location. The remote phone answering employees in another country are absolutely 100% unable to fix and/or trouble shoot an issue that needs to be handled at the rental location where I am trying to pick up my rental. Zero stars!
As everyone else I waited over an hour in line at TPA. Then thirty minutes in the garage to leave because of low staffing. No employees visible in the garage to help assist with where to retrieve vehicle from. The employee that completed my contract told me to go to the wrong floor to get the vehicle which added another 15 minutes on to this process. When Ireturned the vehicle the employee said great you are good to go. Today I looked at the bill and have been charged $400 for damage? There was no damage and no detailed explanation on the bill. I have been on hold thirty minutes as I am writing this.
When you arrive you are like cattle . They were crazy under staffed. To rent a car with a debit card you pay $500.00 deposit no problem for me but I assume that’s not the case with everyone ( So Heads Up ) You need 4 forms of I’d . I used one form of id to bring a gun on a plane. This was also not a issue but a hassle. Then you are told to pick a car and Keys are in the middle next ! What they don’t explain is you can’t exit without someone letting you out and then they explain . In the mean time you are thinking WTH is going On am I stealing this car again ( Heads Up ) Explaining something goes a long way and for the record I totally called the dude on it . Now the car had no issues so I will give them that . Unlike them I have given you useful information.
Wow! I understand whats going on coming out of this pandemic. I understand the lack of employees and need for companies to make money. I also understand that more customers than normal have issues with the smallest things that never use to be a problem. BUT, to land at 5:45pm and not drive out of the rental car garage until 8:37pm is not the expectation. To wait in line upstairs for 30-40 minutes would be ok if you didnt have to wait in line for an hour downstairs to get a car, then wait another 30 minutes to get out of the garage. If you are under staffed dont over sell. Or if you are going to do this give customers a heads up so at least they know and can make the choice. According to staff this has been happening for weeks and according to other reviews months. Do the right thing please. I will never rent from Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar in Tampa again.
July 31, 2021 I booked online for a car rental to be picked up on Aug 3, 2021 at Tampa FL Airport. For Aug 3rd til Sept 17th I paid $1,567.46 on my Chime card. The website I booked the car under said that debit cards used will put a $500 deposit hold. We contacted Dicover Cars just to be 100% sure and again was told my chime card would be accepted again. We also contacted the car rental at the airport and was told yet again that my Chime debit card is accepted. I flew from Colorado to Tampa Florida for my cancer treatments and went to pick up my card. I handed my card over to the cashier and she pulled out a plastic paper holder frame and slammed it in my face and tapped on it for me to read. It said We no longer accept Chime or any other Debit Cards. Even though I called many times to varify. Discover cards will not refund me my money. Both my husband and I have tried communicating but they have switched off their Contact Us on their website. And when you email them your phone number. They refuse to call.
One of the ladies was so helpful and nice! She went above and beyond to help me with my problem.
Had to return a broken vehicle within 30 minutes of leaving airport. Charged $65 and would not refund my money. Dont waste your time with Thrifty.
At the time I rented the car, I told the associate I would use my own insurance. I also informed her I had a reservation through Priceline. She said ok and to swipe my credit card and sign on the machine. When I received my final receipt I was charged for it without even knowing. I also had to switch out the original car because it had a warning light on, low tire pressure and needed maintenance/ oil change. I was never even compensated for it and charged for something I said I didn’t want or need! I called customer service and they said I signed for it so they couldn’t take off the charges. I sign for what I thought was my refundable deposit for when I returned the car. Worst service ever and it’s a scam with them and Priceline!
* Buyer beware. I use a lot of rental car services. This company (the Denver Airport location) charged me for an $800 upgrade I did not ask for. They would not refund. I will not use them ever again. Their ticketing agents use deceptive practices to hide the upgrades.*
Just so everyone knows, hertz, thrifty and dollar are all the same hot pile of garbage in the airport. Multiple times in our hour long wait we got to see agenda of which there was two maximum at each deck spend over 30 minutes each with clients apparently doing nothing. I wish I could of heard what on earth they were talking about as it must of been an amazing mystery. Literally the worst possible experience in customer service I have probably ever seen
We booked a car from Thrifty for one day (Saturday), and noticed the line was so long and there were only three workers. I would think on a busy Saturday there would be additional staff so we don’t have to wait over 1 1/2 to get our car. There was an amazing employee when we dropped the car off, I failed to get her name. Also be aware that if you are using your check card (debit) they put a $500 hold on it until you return the car.
Waited more than an hour in line to pick up our car! They only had 2 service agents available for 50 people waiting to pick up their car. TIP...Send someone ahead to get in line as soon as you land, while another person in your party collects the luggage. After the check in process, getting the car and returning it was simple and fast.
I would give zero stars if possible! Thrifty is absolutely terrible. They dont properly inspect their cars, leaving me stranded when my car broke down 20 minutes after I rented it. It took their roadside assistance over an hour to answer the phone. When I finally got someone on the phone it took almost an hour for the tow truck to arrive. Then I had to LYFT back to the airport to get another rental ($50) which they said they would refund me, only to find out the $50 is going to be a credit for my next rental?!? So basically a wasted vacation day dealing with a rental car. Can you believeI was still charged for that day? Also, their cars are dirty. Dont let the Sanitized for your protection sticker fool you! Stay away!
Just like previous reviewers, we waited for over an hour to get the keys to the rental car. We were told by the associate at the counter that we didnt need to worry about the extra toll purchase as we were only driving to Sanibel from Madeira one afternoon. A few weeks later we had the joy of getting the awesome toll bill in the mail where the fees for going over one toll was quadruple what the cost of the toll was and we were charged twice. What a joke. Find a different rental company.
Will never use Thrifty again. I waited over an hour in line at Tampa airport, staffed with 2-3 representatives & a whole line of people. I reserved a car ahead of time & set the pick up time, yet they still don’t have enough representatives here for all these people. Other rental car agencies have next to no line. Get with the times & get self serve kiosks or let people check in through an app, or get a decent number of staff. I don’t want to spend my entire vacation standing in line for a rental car. Not to mention also getting nickeled & dimed.
We were never notified that we would be charged a $9.99 administrative fee per toll charge. Unbelievable - the tolls were $10.60 and the administrative fees were $69.93. Do yourself a favor and go to the cash lanes and save yourself the trouble of getting ripped off. I agree with the other reviewers, 2 people working at the counter to service a good 75+ people in line. A woman would come over from Hertz and take people 3 at a time over to their line which had no one on it. I would never rent from Thrifty again.
I booked through Thrifty knowing of the bad reviews, but gave the benefit of the doubt due to the fact most of us go a bit overboard in a moment of frustration. Unfortunately, the poor reviews due to the volume of customers, which creates hours of waiting in line are true.At some point you have to recognize your neighbors 30 ft away don’t have this issue. Policies and procedures among other necessary corporate decisions are adjusted daily in some type of scenario. If you don’t mind waiting 1-3hours to checkin enjoy the single digit percentage off compared to an in and out process. It’s very true you get what you pay for, but it’s extremely rare that companies sustain a consistent profitability who choose to be cheap and neglect service. Doesn’t mean you can’t have a good run, nor does it mean there aren’t others. Yet, I’m surprised in this day and age anyone or ones don’t recognize service over price always win in the end.
To expensive, you pay in advance and then want to surprise you with a $500 deposit plus an extra $13 a day for extra driver. Wont be using them again. Wouldnt have been a problem had they made it clear about all the extra $$
Horrible experience, Horrible customer service. I had already placed a $500 deposit online and after waiting over 30 minutes in line I get to the desk and find out they dont accept debit cards or cash? Only credit cards, thats insane. I guess they dont want any money because then they wouldnt accept my credit card because Im too young to rent a car (Im 24)? Ended up going elsewhere and got a rental in 10-15 minutes from Fox Rentals.
Price is good but the wait in line will even out if you pay little bit more at the other rental car office. If you dont mind waiting hours to pick your car then it shouldnt be an inconvenience for you.
If I could give them 0 stars I would. Renting out unsafe vehicles and then doing nothing to fix the situation. We rented a Jeep Wrangler and were very excited. Got on the freeway and got up to around 65-70 mph. Hit a bump in the road and the whole front end started shaking erratically. Had to drop down to under 50 mph and it finally stopped. It was shaking so bad I could barely keep the thing on the road. We thought it was a one time thing until another mile or so down the freeway and it happened again. We’re lucky we weren’t killed. Had there been a semi next to us, I’m convinced the outcome could have been much different. Here’s where it gets ugly. We call their 800 number and the only solution is for us to try and find another Thrifty location closer. We’re on Treasure Island and see there’s a location on Gulf Blvd. about 4 miles from us. So I call and ask if I can come swap out for another vehicle that is safe enough to get back to the airport. “Sorry we cannot exchange because we don’t have anything available. My advice would be try to find another route back to the airport.” Hell no. For one there’s not really another route. Second, why should I waste a half a day of my vacation. I already waited almost an hour in line to rent the jeep the first time.Thrifty would do absolutely nothing to help. I warn you - do not rent from Thrifty. Their vehicles are not safe and if you have issues they will do nothing to help.I plan to leave their jeep at our hotel and get an uber back to the airport.
Only 2 people working on Memorial Day, 1 actually got up and left. The line was extremely long and the service is terrible. There needs to be self service counters for those who need their QR confirmed and scanned. This and Dollar are the absolute worst in the airport. There needs to be something done! Not a fun way to start vacation. GET MORE EMPLOYEES OR SHUT DOWN!
Lines are extremely long and there unorganized along with rude unhappy employees. Additionally, Thifty charges so many different hidden fees its unethical. Please save your self the headache and just go to Enterprise. If I could rate them a negative 0 I would. The company doesnt deserve a 1 star review.
I have had an excellent experience so far at thrifty Tampa airport. They got me a decent standard trim Nissan Altima and then upgraded me to a beautiful Toyota sienna XLe minivan with active cruise control radar and active steering assist for free. I’m a little worried about their policy regarding tolls because my transponder wasn’t working for some reason and I believe that I missed a couple tolls and was told that there was a $10 service charge for each which will be we’ll be well over $100 if they refuse to negotiate on that point. I’ll find out about that soon but so far the staff and cars have both been exceptional.
Very very poor service, I waited in line for ever, anyone reading this, stay away from thrifty in Tampa, they save you money because they don’t pay staff to work the desk. You Wait in long lines with only one person working, poor poor performance from such a well known company . “0” is my rating for this rental company
Lines too long at the airport, not enough agents to check people out. Discount not worth the extreme wait. Avoid TPA thrifty car rental at all cost. Makes no sense!! Called to get a different location pick up they said go to Hertz counter and they can take care of you and of course the rep did not accommodate after waiting 20-30 minutes in their line. Worst experience ever 😠
ZERO STARS IF I COULD. I prepaid weeks in advance for my car, and was then double charged for the vehicle at pick up (totally $800) and was told i would have to call customer service to fix the issue. After driving the vehicle for ten miles, my tire popped on the interstate. when i went to change the spare tire, i realized there was no wrench in the spare kit, just a tire and a jack. i waited on hold for over two hours for basic roadside assistance, and then was told they couldnt find proof of my insurance coverage, so i would have to pay out of pocket to fix the tire (after the fact, they were magically able to find my insurance coverage). to top it all off, i tried to call on my final day to change my drop off location and was told it wasnt possible, but that they couldnt find any reason why. This company is a complete scam. dont waste your time and money.
First Thrifty ran out of vehicles despite my husband having a reservation, so they sent him to Hertz to choose one of two remaining vehicles. Many had reservations, but were sent away.My husband lost his wallet in what he believes the car he returned. He frantically called numerous times to speak to a representative to no avail - everything is automated. He phoned me at home to see if I could get through. I was on hold for literally 35 minutes. When I called back and spoke to a manager, he suggested I go online to fill out a lost & found! No wonder this sham of a company has 2 stars! It shouldnt even have one!
There are only 2 employees working the counter on a Sat. In May 2021. We will easily way and hour and a half and likely longer. We prepaid so we’re stuck. Not a fun way to begin a vacation.
Waited 3.5 hours in a sweltering parking garage because they had no vehicles for people who made reservations. Also, I had multiple reservations and they processed the wrong one. Can’t get in touch with anyone to get things corrected.
Vehicle and the process of getting the rental is good. Its the people at the counter werent very honest. They attempted not giving me the car I booked/paid, tried to downgrade to the smaller car. At the end they charged me taxes that I already paid for including to my booking. It took me about a week to get my money back. Be aware!
The wait was long but to be expected given it is MemorialDay weekend.....but the lady at the counter was super friendly and super helpful!
Save yourself the displeasure of doing business with this dishonest, slow and incompetent company. No point in a reservation if youre still waiting almost 2 hours for a vehicle I already paid for. Bring a credit card. Its in the fine print. Keep your toll receipts too.
We had to use Thrifty twice during our trip. First time we had our reservations ready to go and we get to the line (at 10:30pm on a Thursday) and it took us nearly a half hour to get through the line…only 2 people working at that time-thanks to Hertz they got us our car earlier.Second time was a Monday morning at 11am and it took us closer to 40mins to get our car even when we had reservations. There were also 4 people working between thrifty and dollar…line was into the middle of the walkway. Just another poor experience with Thrifty. I’ll pay the extra few dollars next time to use a different car company.
This was the worst rental company we have ever rented through. For one the car was tore up we didn’t get what we paid for and they had no idea what they were doing when we got to the gate to leave. They also charge you all kinds if hidden fees. They charged us 100 dollars for gas in a 4 cylinder! Then the guy told me to use the toll pass and never said we would be charged for it and they charged us 40 dollars. They charged a cleaning fee and we cleaned the whole car out. This place may be cheap when looking but in the end we got charged 200 dollars after turning it in so we went from paying 500 to 700... I will NEVER rent through them again!!!! Just stick with enterprise they never do you wrong..
I had to have seen the long line with to Clerks They take advantage of this the one Clerk I got lied to me about the size of car I rented because she said I had rented a size car that was a smart car. She suggested I upgrade which I regretfully doing I also told her I did not need insurance I am fully covered once I got out of line got my car looked at my bill it was too late to turn around and go back upstairs to dispute the bill my bill for the whole week was over $1400 I feel like I was lied to and ripped off and I cannot get thrifty to do anything about it And they said I signed the contract I am liable they did not care she lied to me about the size of my car she also did the same thing to my sister a week later and told her she would not like the smart car honestly I did not see a smart car anywhere this Clerk Is lying to everyone and I feel like I have no help from thrifty I have called them three times beware
How do you only have one person working at peak travel times? The line is 50 people deep. ridiculous.
Run! Dont walk away from this place. Run! They charged me twice the daily rate for returning my rental 30 mins late. Theres also a $10 service fee for each toll! They should mention it at rental time (like they mention the charge for not returning the car with a full tank).Incredible theyre willing to lose a returning customer for a few extra bucks.
Everything about this car rental experience was perfect including the price!!!!! Staff so helpful and friendly!!!!
Zero stars. This line is over an hour long. They need to figure out a better system. We’ll never use them again.
Thrifty deserves Zero Stars! Terrible experience and so unprofessional! My flight landed in Tampa at 10:15 Friday night but I wasn’t able to leave the airport until after midnight! When we got to the Thrifty/Dollar desk in the rental car area, there was a long line and only two employees working. When we finally got up to the desk, we were told by the person at the desk to go down to the Hertz booth to get our car, where we had to wait in ANOTHER long line! When we got to the front of the line we were told that they did not have our reserved car for us! This would be stressful enough if it were the afternoon, but it was the middle of the night! They just gave us a CX-5, which is similar to what car we reserved. Do not rent a car through Thrifty or you will have to deal with what we had to deal with!
I rented 2x from Thrifty this month. Last week I flew from Massuchusetts to Tampa last minute to say bye to my.brother who passed away from the covid virus. As everyone knows last minute travel costs you extra money. Upon returning the rental, I forgot and left my handicap placard hanging from the mirror. With the heavy heart of just losing my brother, my head wasnt the clearest in double checking for things. I filled out a lost and found repirt and got an email saying the placard was found. Told my options were to come pick it up (I live in Massachusetts); or they will ship via FedRx for $32.99! Want a disgrace of customer service! Not only do I need the placard for everday parking needs, but also the feeling of just a number and an opportunity to milk more money from me. I tried explaining tgat I spent almost every cent to get down there (for the family emergency), and the agent ignorantly interupted and said Well its your responsibility to double check your belongings. What an ignorant way of customer service dealings. No extended courtesy for simply putting it in the mail (no supervisor available or willing to comp or waive the mailing fee to do the right thing). I will NEVER rent from Thrifty in the future. Im hoping my business will be welcomed somewhere else. They should feel embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.***** do NOT rent from this place *****Received a bill in the mail for 5 tolls (charge to plate), but Thrifty adds an additional $9.99 admin fee for EACH toll! What a bunch of friggin crooks. Squeeze every penny from people! Disgusting business ethics and practices.
Only thing that needs to change is telling people not to smoke in the cars. The car I rented was clean but, when you turn the air on old cigarette smell came out the vents.
Could be streamlined a bit so that customers having a reservation could have a separate line, instead of waiting so long
Do not make the mistake I made. Read the reviews. I had no idea I would be waiting in a 1.5 hour line for my car even though I had a reservation. hertz, dollar and thrifty are all combined into one checkout line at the airport. Hertz customers get priority so if you are in line they will take the hertz customers first. There were only 2 customer service reps dedicated to thrifty and 2-3 to hertz . Vehicle quality was marginal. Vehicle had signs of wear and 35k miles. Clean, no smell or smoke or major defects
Would not process our cards and gave us the run around with Expedia about who was responsible for not having our vehicle ready. Then didn’t even have the right car for our rental.
Be prepared to wait in a long long line for a very long time as they dont get to the customers quite fast enough and youll be standing there for a good hour to 2 hours. Scrutinize your vehicle carefully before you take it at first glance the midsize car that I picked originally seemed like a good car when driving it I soon realized that it had acceleration issues and none of the charging ports worked the lighter didnt work the USB port didnt work to charge and all of my devices were soon depleted without a means to charge them. So I called the 1-800 number on the brochure and emergency roadside assistance had an hour long and I mean a literal 60 minutes waiting on hold before you speak to anyone I was told eventually to bring the vehicle back to the airport where I was greeted by the reception that takes your vehicle and check the gas level and returns it back to where it needs to go the attendant gave me wrong directions as to where to go for my situation and what to do I ended up back upstairs and the mega mega line for a well over 45 minutes then being told to go back downstairs to the Gold Member booth by the manager of Thrifty who was kind of laxidasical and smart-alecky. The kind girl in the Goldmember Booth was very nice very accommodating and handled everything wonderfully but they charged us $300 for the extra day and to exchange the vehicle which wasnt good. Im only giving three stars because that woman was so kind but I think for the inconvenience that I incurred I should have gained a little bit more than a free tank of gas. If all we had to deal with was the gold Booth people we would have it made but we have to deal with the Slappys upstairs in the desks by Thrifty and dollar booths unfortunately.
Our vehicles serpentine belt broke at 6k miles, they sent out a truck to get the vehicle but were nice enough to leave us there, on an island, without a vehicle the day we were supposed to leave. We were then told a lyft would be coming, which never did (thats not these dudes fault though), to which then we had a friend pick us up as thrifty refused to send a vehicle to us and we then missed our flight
I have been in line at TPA thrifty for an hour now. I am almost halfway through. 2 employees are at a desk area with 12 stations. Maybe they dont want to pay more workers? So must be they are the thrifty ones. We will never come back.
After sending 2 hours at the ticket counter, spent another 2 hours in the garage sucking on fumes waiting in a line of 300 people. Never seen such incompetence in my life.
Way too long of a line. 2 people working the counter, 100s in line. You can see from the other reviews that this is business as usual for Thrifty. Clearly they don’t care about customer service.
Flew in from Chicago and rented a car months in advance and when we arrived they informed us and 30 other customers that they did not have cars for anyone. I absolutely will be calling to get reimbursed for my $65 freaking cab ride. Worst company ever. Can’t wait to take to social media to let everyone know on Twitter how this company functions.
What a nightmare!! Don’t make my mistake! Made a reservation days prior, and when I came to the rental car center (which was nearly impossible to find since there are NO signs), I was horrified to see a massive line that was due to the Thrifty and Dollar lines all funneled together. Only 2 people working the line of 40+ people. This is 2021, and no one can figure out how to expedite this process? Why is there NO line for reservations already made and paid for? If I didn’t already pay for my reservation I would have gone to any other rental car company.I cannot recommend this to my worst enemy. Thanks for being a terrible company.
Charged me $400 for “smoking” in the car. I am not a smoker. Tried to call and get a refund and they would not budge. I will be disputing the charge with my credit card company as this is a fraudulent charge.
Rented a luxury car 3 months in advance. Show up and they told me I couldnt have it because I didnt have credit card. I had debit and therefore I could only get full size for even more expensive than the luxury.
Plane lands at 1:30pm. Were traveling with a toddler. By the time we get to the car rental it is 3pm. Theres a guy at the counter but not helping one customer ... Hes cleaning. No word from him to the huge line that wraps around atleast 3 times. We stand there for 30 minutes...Hes still not acknowledging anyone.I skip the line and ask him whats going on. He tells me that I just got here. So its 3PM and only one person working on a Sunday to accommodate atleast 30 people in line?? I ask to talk to the manager, he says I need to go downstairs and speak to the Hertz manager. Thats when I understood its a franchise. And in my experience they couldnt care less about you!Long story short. I went downstairs and spoke to the manager and they took care of me right there and then. I felt bad for everyone else standing in that line.
I would give 0 if possible. I made a reservation to pick up the car at 1130pm and was not notified that they closed their counter at the airport before my pick up time (no messages, no warning, the system shouldnt allow me to make the reservation). That happened to dozens of other people who were very confused as well when we arrived at the rental area.I spent the extra money to stay in a nearby hotel overnight and pick up the car the following day. The lady who processed my reservation looked like she didnt want to be there and did not care to give me any instructions regarding Florida tolls.Last day of my stay, my front tires were low. I tried pumping twice and the light was still on. I called roadside assistance and I was put on hold for half an hour and gave up.Worst rental experience ever and will never go back to thrifty.
I rented a Dodge Charger online and it said the total was 260 after fees. When I arrived to the airport, they said I rented a Malibu and it was actually 45$ more than the Expedia locked in price. Then, without mention or telling me my total cost, the customer service rep was super rude and ran my card and gave me a receipt. It was overall 65$ more and they took a 200$ deposit without mentioning anything. Very poor service. Better off walking wherever you have to go than using this place again.
VERY SHADY!!! I paid a prepaid of around $180 through CARLA for my rental car. Got to the airport and they added the underage surcharge on + taxes of course which I expected. The worker did not inform me of the cost of car insurance - she just said asked if I want standard insurance or the more advanced insurance option - I didnt know the insurance was optional and she never told me the cost of insurance or that it would run my TOTAL BILL on the car up to $530+. $530?!??!! FOR A FOUR DAY CAR RENTAL??? I have never paid that much in my life. I am disgusted and so angry that their employee wasnt transparent with the fees in the rental process. I called the tampa rental car center & he said nothing can be done because I agreed to the terms & the contract. Well that isnt right when the insurance cost was never disclosed to me, I was never told it was optional, I never was told extra fees would apply for the insurance. Now I am stuck paying $530+ for a rental car. That should have been $340. This insurance fee needs to be waived & refunded on my rental or I will be going to the Better Business Bureau & disputing the charge with my credit card company. I am in disbelief that their employee would not disclose those fees to me prior to me signing the contract. I have contacted Thrifty to make things right - will change review if they do, but not cool.
Worst ever rental ever! 4 clerks to check in hundreds people. 2 to 3 hour wait in Tampa Airport. Horrible way to start a vacation 😫
Easy pickup and drop off. Good experience all the way around.
The car sounded like a wind tunnel when driving it. So noisy we had to almost yell to talk.
If you want to feel like human, or have a safe reliable car, RUN AWAY!EXTRMELY rude employees that do not want to answer questions. They also do not want to tell you how much you will be paying without giving an attitude.Go buy a bike before renting a car from these crooks
Understaffed. Took too long to get the car we had reserved. More than 45inutes.
Thrifty helped our family enjoy our recent trip to Florida. After arriving at the Tampa Bay International Airport, we were offered. Free upgrade from a midsize sedan to a mini van. We got this nice, new 2019 Dodge Caravan with less than 10,000 miles. It got 27 MPG most of the time we were in FL, especially because we traveled down to Key West and Miami. I recommend that you try Thrifty for your next rental needs.
Long line. We had a vehicle reserved but still took over 90min to get off the lot from the counter. Customer service was OK but there were a ton of unexpected fees tacked on. Thrifty may be cheap online but not once its all said and done.
Booked and PAID for a car, that THEY gave to someone else..closed an hour early, saying We had it for today WTH is that supposed to mean?!? Would NEVER recommend to anyone!!!Customer Service is a huge Joke as well..they barely speak, nor understand English..
Had an appointment for 12 noon at the Tampa Bay Airport. It is now 1pm, still in line with 60-80 other ppl and the one employee who was running the desk just went to the back 15mins ago! No one has come out to help all of us. My kids are going crazy after a long flight. Horrible way to start vacation. Spend the extra and go to Hertz or Alamo trust me. They have 4+ employees working the desk and no line.
15 minutes from start at counter to car! I’m sure it’s all about timing on the Saturday afternoon, but we had fast service while the other car rentals had up to 3 hour waits.
After reading the reviews (at the airport waiting to fly out... prob should of checked those earlier lol) I had a knot in my stomach about dealing with this company. Im happy to say I had no issues at all with Thrifty. Now, I was not traveling at a peak time, so I cant speak on long lines... flew in Thurs evening and only waited 10 mins or so. Agents were super-nice, no one tried to upsell me anything, I paid for a tank of gas up front, which was my decision. Car was fine, not a luxury auto, but got the job done. No surprise charges to my credit card... I was very impressed. Thanks, Thrifty for taking some of the stress out of my travel!
