Quick shout out too the crew at Pep Boys Sate College. I had a issue with one of my cars that needed to be repaired quickly. They accommodated me too the fullest and fixed the issue in record time. Everyone I spoke too was extremely nice and customer focused. Keep up the great work !!!

I coasted into town, they squeezed me in that same day. They diagnosed my problem...because they dont do transmission replacement, they did not charge me for any of that time spent locating the problem.

NEVER AGAIN. Stopped for an oil change and tire rotation. I was ahead of my scheduled time, but they said they would take me in anyway. I waited two hours!!!!! and finally asked what the hold up was.... The manager came out and said the guys hadnt gotten to it yet and gave me some terrible excuse about alignment racks being worked on which has nothing to do with changing oil. You can use a floor jack to change oil. DO NOT COME HERE!!

We had an appointment for 10 am to have 2 back tires put on my vehicle and we were there for 2 hours. They also charged my husband for a warranty and something else on the tires that he never asked for. Its a shame this company has been in business I believe for 100 years or more. Truly has gone down hill. We will not have anything repaired at this facility again.

I got state inspections and brake fluid exchange. But it took much longer than usual as they are severely understaffed. Just be patient and polite. They will do the job for you.Also, I needed additional brake service to pass the PA inspection. They were kind enough to explain and show the reason why the extra service was needed.Wish I can give 5 stars but due to the understaffed situation, Im leaving 4 stars for now.

CHECK THEIR MATH.PROS: When I checked their math and got clear evidence about the error, they refunded my money promptly and in full.CONS (short version): If I had not checked their math, they would have overcharged me by nearly $250.CONTEXT: I bought tires on a “buy 3 get 1 free” deal. On the website, the tires were marked down from $153 to $115 BEFORE the discount (free tire) was applied. On my receipt, they were not. In addition, there was a $38 charge for replacing minor parts that I did not approve. The difference came to nearly $250.FURTHER CONTEXT:I had to self-advocate twice. First at the register, where I expressed surprise at the bill and ran the numbers for the raw cost of the tires (no labor). The employee explained that I was misreading the website—that the apparently reduced price of the tire was actually the “buy 3 get 1 free” cost being factored out across all four tires. I thought this was misleading, but accepted his explanation and paid.In the parking lot, sticker shock led me back to the website. I put all four tires in my online shopping cart, as though I were buying them online, and . . . look at that. $451 instead of $615. I took a screenshot and went back in. As I said, they promptly refunded both that charge and the $38 charge I had not approved.EVEN MORE CONTEXT: This was my second trip to Pep Boys for tires this week, and my second time spending over an hour in their waiting room. The first time, it turned out they had accidentally ordered the wrong size tire for my car. On that occasion, they offered to use tires they had on hand, which were of slightly lower quality. When I rescheduled instead, I had to self-advocate to retain the free installation that came with the original tires, which the gentleman said had “expired April 2”—a day after I called and asked them to order the original set of tires.POSSIBLY IRRELEVANT (BUT MAYBE NOT) INFORMATION: I’m a woman with a cheerful demeanor. When mechanics ask follow-up questions about my car, it is clear that I don’t know that much beyond basic auto maintenance.I’ll say it again: check their work.

Twice in the last two weeks I was into the State College location. Both times there was only one unmotivated individual that I have to guess was clinging to life by a thread as Im sure the job isnt what they ever planned to do. First trip in I stood at the counter minding my social distance while a lady rambled about the store helping a customer get a fee odds and end that were all located in the browsing sections of the store. After a few minutes she returned to the counter and some how managed to get the gentleman taken care of and he left. Thinking it was my turn I moved up the a lotted 6 feet only to have her make eye contact and very obviously pretend to be adjusting paperwork. In comes another gentleman with a air cleaner needing a replacement. She immediately asks how she can help and once again off she goes to the open area of the store. Finally a young lady asks someone to help me at the counter and I pick up the parts I order over the phone. Todays experience was about the same. Without the rambling through the store but I was again passed over at the counter and another customer pointed it out. Tom seemed new but he was chipper and polite and I was able to make my purchase and move on.I dont want to be to critical as I understand not many people dream of working a parts counter but man its sad in there. Watching the majority of the employees there was like watching your dog being taken back the hallway to be neutered. They all seem to be on the edge and one more thing in life that messes up the are jumping! Life is to short to be a miserable as those folks.

Lots of issues from one visit.First, if your online appointment scheduling doesnt link up with the actual schedule at a Pep Boys location why is it even an option? I scheduled an alignment online on Friday for a Saturday appointment. I got a call the next day, the day of the appointment, that they had to reschedule because they were already booked all day. I live 45 minutes from the nearest location and also work 2 jobs so I needed it done on a weekend. This was the the State College, PA Pep Boys. They told me to be here at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday (today, 1/31/21). I verified he said 8 a.m. I arrived at 8 and the store is closed. I tried calling several times and after 35 minutes someone did answer. This gentleman told me there was no 8 a.m. appointment and that the Tech doesnt even come in until 9:00 a.m.. So I had to get up early on a Sunday and drive 45 minutes to sit in the parking lot for an hour, or so I thought.I then continued sitting in my car until at least 9:20 am. The sign on the door says they open at 9 am, both the store and service side. A vehicle had been sitting in the parking lot across from me from about 8:50 am. A couple of people went up to the door after 9 am and were confused as to why it wasnt open..I eventually got out my car and waited by the door.. Another couple came to the door then and also saw the sign said 9 am. Then the person who had been sitting in their car all this time was actually an employee and got out to tell us all that the store doesnt open until 10 am. She said there is a sign on the door. We then finally noticed a ripped piece of paper at the bottom of the door that is apparently the correct hours. If you lookup the store online the hours are apparently incorrect there too.I was finally brought in around 9:30 to get the alignment done. While sitting in the waiting area, I heard the employee who talked to me and the couple in the parking lot complaining about people complaining.When I 1st went in I was told I would get $20 off. As I was being checked out he told me he was giving me $30 off. He also said he was giving me a free calendar with coupons. I just wanted out of there and didnt bother complaining because they just would have talked me complaining. I didnt even look at my receipt that he handed me AFTER I paid. After I later looked at the receipt I was charged for the calendar, $9.99. There is also a miscellaneous $8.99 charge that I dont know what it is for. It may be usual but I have no idea. I am livid.This location is a mess. And definitely try to rip you off.

Checked my dipstick this morning and it came back clean so I panicked. Called Pep Boys and they told me to bring it right in. They got me in immediately for an oil change and to check for an oil leak. They did a full oil change, headlight restoration, and evaluation in under 2 hours with no appointment. Everyone I spoke to was very nice and very knowledgable. No one tried selling me anything I didnt need or any kind of extras except for the headlight restoration but I actually had been planning on doing that soon anyway so I was happy to say yes. Their prices were GREAT, I cant stress that enough. I actually questioned the guy checking me out for a little bit because I thought there was a mistake in my bill since it was so low. Despite coming in thinking I had an oil leak they assured me I didnt (I hadnt had my oil changed in 8,000 miles/11 months so Im assuming my low oil was from this) but they easily could have told me I did and I would have paid for repairs I didnt need. This is the second time this Pep Boys has given me great service and I highly recommend it to others in the State College area. Based on my bill, my mechanic was Logan, James did my headlight restoration, and Shawn checked me in and all of them did a great job. As I said earlier, highly recommend this shop.

Usually I do not write reviews but this is one that I have to share. Students and anyone who may need an inspection on their car, please try to find another location to do this. I have been a usual customer of Pepboys to get my oil change and decided to do my inspection here. I had an appointment at 8am and did not leave until nearly 11am. After they inspected the car, they said that I had to replace my windshield wipers (no big deal), my front brakes and rotors. They said that they could not pass my car until this was completed and estimated this for the price of $600. Being a student, I only paid for the windshield wipers and decided to look elsewhere because that was a very steep price. I had my friends dad,who is a full-time mechanic,look at my car and could NOT find anything wrong with my car, to the point he asked me what PepBoys found. I told him that pepboys estimated me for front brakes and front rotors, where my friends dad said that my brakes are waaay to pre-mature to replace and there was nothing wrong with my rotors, and passed my inspection. I used to be a loyal customer to pepboys but this really breaks it for me. I was almost chareged $600 for something I do not need and felt totally taken advantaged of. My advice is to please find a place that is honest and transparent with car issues. Noone should get ripped off or even close to it.

Its really too bad I cant give a zero star rating, otherwise I would. Please read this entire post - I will save you money, time and agony.I called on a Sunday to get an appointment for Monday morning for an inspection. When I called, they said they could get me in at 10 am on Monday - perfect you might be thinking - wrong! I showed up at 10 am on the dot and they said it would be another 1.5 hours before they could even get to me, because someone didnt show up to work. Of course this is not their fault and these things happen right? Well, thats only part of the story and it gets worse.Why didnt they call me to notify me if there was going to be a delay so I could plan accordingly or reschedule? Thats a great question! It turns out the person I spoke with Sunday did not write down this appointment so they had no record of me even being scheduled. I was told, oh yeah, he does that all the time. This is still forgivable in the realm of customer service because these things happen.So I show up 1.5 hours later and this is the response this time. Apparently a second person didnt show up and now they have one person doing all of the service for the day. I was told they didnt know how long it would be before they got to me. Um, excuse me, I have a job that I actually tend to show up to. Anyways, I said forget about it and went somewhere else.So you didnt call me the first time because there was no record of my appointment, fine. But how about a call the second time to say sir its going to be a couple more hours, you can still come in, or we can reschedule? I get that people dont show up to work for various reasons and I am not faulting them for that. The reason for the 1 star rating is the utter lack of care and communication with the customer.This is a level of dysfunction I have never seen at such an establishment and its also quite rude in the area of customer service. Just avoid the headache and go somewhere else!

I went to Pep Boys in State College to get my state inspection done. After repeatedly having issues renewing my vehicle registration they not only found the source of the problems I was having but the staff also allowed me to use their computer and print out my new registration at the store. All of the staff was super friendly and although I know very little about vehicles they never made me feel like I was being taken advantage of.

I made an appointment at 12:00 pm on Sunday for an oil change. When I arrived, I was told that they didnt have enough technicians and they either have to reschedule or cancel my appointment. They also told me that even if I do online appointment I have to call the store and double check (Then, WHAT IS THE POINT OF ONLINE APPOINTMENT?).I was supposed to travel the next day and no other shop was available for walk-in in Sunday afternoon as expected. I will have to drive another 500 miles with oil that is already 5000+ miles because of their irresponsibility.Reading the other reviews, I see that this is a consistent problem with this location and they simply dont address it. I will go ahead and file complaint with Pep Boys headquarters and I suggest others to do the same.

Called on a Sunday to get my State Inspection done, and was told the earliest available appointment was the next day at 8:00am. I scheduled my appointment and told the employee that I would be waiting while my car inspection took place. I arrived the next morning at 8am only to be told that they did not have a technician scheduled to work until 8:30am. I am not sure what the point of scheduling an appointment is if you know no one is available, but I guess the joke is on me for not picking one of the independent repair shops in the area. Not much in the way of an apology either(“Sorry”). Zero stars.

Hi,I have been to this place thrice now. Everytime I book an appointment it is never entered in the system and I have to come back the next day after physically confirming my appointment.Today I went there to get a back camera fitted in my car which I bought from them for 50 dollars. Initially they said just bring your car and we will install it in your car. I was charged 200 dollars for installation of a 50 dollar camera without providing me any estimate of the work being done. I asked if it was such a huge amount why I was not told initially about the estimate and they should have taken my approval.They did my brakes and alignment for some 100 dollars for which they took my permission and provided me an estimate but apparantly this time without providing me any estimate they installed the camera for such an exorbitant price. After much haggling they charged me 70 dollars. I think it is highly unprofessional behaviour and would not recommend this place to anyone.

One of the best services I had in the state college area. I scheduled an appointment online to have my tire repaired through the website which was very easy to navigate. The mechanics were honest about my tire not being able to be repaired and suggested a replacement. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and efficient with getting my information and finding the best tire at a reasonable price. I couldn’t ask for better service, I will definitely be coming back for future car service.

My experience at Pep Boys in State College was fabulous. I cannot describe to you how helpful and caring the Service Manager and staff were to me. My car was towed to the Pep Boys on a rainy Friday night. Jeff had to call me Saturday AM with the horrible news that my engine was dead. I went into the store and he and Chris were a tremendous help to me, giving me estimates, telling me they would help me in anyway they could....oh yeah I forgot to say I am from out of town...like 2 1/2 hours out of town.So the choice was did I want to invest the money to have a new engine or shop for a new car...I felt I could not make a decision without getting more information. I asked Chris about local dealers and he directed me in a good direction and ultimately I am purchasing a new car. I could not have gotten through this tough situation without the service and care provided to me by Chris and Jeff and the other staff. Everyone is friendly and caring. I recently had my inspection stickers done at Pep Boys. From the day I scheduled the appointment I was impressed with the courtesy of the guy on the phone (Kyle). He was able to get me in the next day as the first appointment. When I arrived I found a whole crew of techs ready to work on my vehicle and the inspection started right away. Unfortunately this was a year when my vehicle needed some work. The tech, Jimmy, took me back and very skillfully showed me what exactly needed fixing to pass my inspection (but in terms I could understand). He was also able to give me a heads up about some other things that I should keep an eye on for the future. I felt like I was getting the right information to keep my vehicle working and my family safe, without trying to up-sell me on extra parts and services. This was refreshing. And at the end of what turned out to be an expensive day, I was given a discount on the services.Overall I am very pleased with the service I received. I had my vehicle serviced here two years ago and this feels like a totally different place. The service I received and the experience I had had were top notch. This visit changed my mind about this Pep Boys location and I will certainly return in the future.

Hands down, the best repair shop I had been to. The guys were honest about what needed fixed, didnt try and overcharge me, and helped me understand what was going on with my car. Theres no question I will go back here in the future.If youre looking for an honest and knowledgeable repair shop dont waste your time looking anywhere else ... Awesome group of mechanics. Very polite and respectful. Understood the predicament we were in and bent over backwards to fix the problem. When repairing the car was no longer an option they explained what could be done and called a long haul tow truck (152 miles) and got us on our way and didnt charge me a penny.

Customer service is always lacking. They have you stand in the store for 10+ minutes at a time without acknowledging you, which makes me think I should take my business elsewhere for the 10 minutes I have to ponder about it.I called them on the phone to see if they could replace a valve stem on a tire, as their business represents tires and maintenance. Fella on the phone said they could, so I go in this morning and the guy at the front desk after the 10 minute wait said no. No reason given, the sunshine at the front desk simply shook his head no whilst looking down and said We cant do it.

We happened to be at Giant when we discovered a flat tire. It was Sunday afternoon and we weren’t sure we could make it to the next gas station. We stopped by and asked Sebastian if we could just use the air pump and he took a look at the tire, fixed the valve in a minute and sent us on our way with nothing to be worried about. All while being as nice and helpful as possible!

My fiance went to PepBoys on Monday, May 14, 2019 to put new tires on his car. Along with the tires he needed an alignment. We are headed to NC tomorrow and when we got on the interstate today to travel the steering wheel was wobbling. Therefore they never balanced the tires before they put them on the car.We dont travel the interstate often due to living in a town that we dont have to travel far.My fiance calls them today and told them what was going on with the car.Them Well, that sounds like the tires arent balanced.Fiance I am traveling to NC tomorrow and I need to get the car in today to get them balanced.Them Well, we have appointments and we cant get you in so what would you like us to do?Fiance I would like you to get it in and get it fixed because I need to drive it tomorrow and I wont be in town for a week.Them We have appointments and we cant do it today.Needless to say my fiance was not happy and has to take his car somewhere else to take care of the balancing. There was no apology or anything that would justify what happened, and they never ask for his name or the car make to know who they were talking to. No one should ever take their car here. They are rude and they dont care about customer service what so ever. This place is a disgrace.

Fantastic - better than I could have hoped for! I bought my own brake pads & had tried to install them myself. However, due to the very tight clearance between the shock absorber and the caliper bolts, I couldnt find a tool that would fit.The Pep Boys mechanic finished the job up for me at the best price Id been able to find.Way to go - Pep Boys!

The guys at this Pep Boys location have been super helpful and friendly. Over the past 3 years theyve helped me handle every crisis Ive had with a string of lemons... and theyve never made me feel stupid for understanding absolutely nothing about cars! Theyve taken the time on numerous occasions to explain what is absolutely crucial to keep it running and what I could probably wait a couple paychecks to fix lol. Wouldnt take my car any place else!

This place is like the combining the best parts of going to a dealership and best parts of your local mechanic. The atmosphere and care is more of your local mechanic, but with appointment and parts availability more like a dealership and prices cheaper than the 2. I take my car to this location for both routine maintenance and when I think there is something wrong. They have gone above and beyond to get parts in while I waited when needed and also to find those unusual replacement parts that are impossible to find. When in for a problem, I love that the technicians will often times show me their findings and really help me to understand why I was experiencing that noise or pull.

I have taken both of my vehicles to this shop in the last month. The service was timely and done right the first time. The customer service was amazing, they kept me in the loop of what was going on and they followed along with what I asked them to do. The price was the best I have found in the State College area!Would I recommend them to my friends, I already have several times. Both of my front tires were completely flat, so I had my car towed to Pep Boys. They started working on my car right away and had it fixed in 30 minutes. The one technician (Sabastian) went out of his way to show me that my tie rods were going bad. So it was a good experience overall with excellent service.

Wonderful timely friendly service. We pulled in with a tire losing air very quickly, they got us right in, showed us the problem and put 2 new tires on very quickly. They were friendly, knowledgeable and very sweet to our 4 and 7 year old children. A great experience, theyve definitely won our return service.

Edit: I worked with the manager, and we were able to resolve the issues. Still not 5 star due to the first issues, but they made good on ensuring satisfaction and fixing their shortcomings.Incomplete service and appointment basically completely ignored.I made an appointment for an oil change, slow leak tire patch and tire rotation. I showed up on time but waited over 2 hours for the work to be performed (fairly quick and routine work).The big kicker was when I left the tire pressure sensor didn’t go off. I circled back after driving about 10 miles (far longer than it usually takes for the sensor to reset).The staff informed me that they forgot to put air in the tire that was fixed, then went to put air in the same location as before I brought it in, prompting the question “that was where the tire originally was, did you perform the rotation?” The answer was “oops, we forgot and only rotated one side.So if I hadn’t asked it wouldn’t have actually been rotated and they basically only did about 2/3 of the work.Wouldn’t recommend. Can’t trust the work I have down there is complete and done correctly from here on out.

Was in a hurry and really needed my flat tire to be fixed in time for me to leave to New York, even though the shop was on a tight schedule, they were able to help me out and fit me in. The manager and the team were very friendly and helpful, finished my tire very quickly and even offered assistance with ordering new tires in case I needed to replace mine. Honestly, I cant thank them enough for helping me out and I would definitely recommend Pep Boys State College to anyone who needs quick, efficient, and friendly service for their vehicle.

*Edited*I’ve taken my car here for three synthetic oil changes and each time the price went up significantly. Also, my hood prop disappeared after my second oil change and when I asked about it they asked me why their mechanics would take it out. Obviously, it didn’t just fall out of my car.My issue is mostly with Pep Boys’ inconsistent prices rather than the employees at this specific location.

Very friendly helpful staff.I had gotten a flat tire and it being the 2nd time with that tire i knew i needed a new tire rather than trying to repair that one. And i needed it right away because i had no spare and my vehicle was on the highway. Not wanting to spend alot for several reasons and one being i didnt have much cash on me i went to Walmart whom closing hours on sunday were at 6pm and it was not quite 4:30 yet. Told the service man what i needed and they told me NO, there were not taking anymore work for the day. And although none of them were actually doing anything but talking at that moment i said ok leaving Quite disgusted and confirmation of my dislike for Walmart. A friend then recommended for me to try pep boys. The staff at pep boys were all very friendly, knowledgeable and courteous who welcomed me upon entering the store and gladly accepted the job. They did so efficiently and in a timely matter and within no time i was out the door with a new tire and still had cash left in my wallet. Thank you pep boys! The Service manager Jeff went out of his way to explain the required services to me and made sure that I was comfortable. Brought my 2000 Dodge in to Pep Boys to have it checked out (without an appointment) because the engine was making awful but intermittent racket. Unfortunately, it stopped making the sound on the drive over but I left it with Jeff Robertson, the service manager since March 2012, and asked if he would have one of the mechanics see if they could reproduce it. He had one of the master mechanics take a look at it and drive it for a bit as well to try to get the sound, but it didnt reappear. They said to bring the car back in as soon as it made the sound again and didnt charge me for the time they spent looking over my car.When the sound came back about a week later, I took it over there again and Jeff walked right out to the parking lot with me to listen, and brought out one of the master mechanics to listen as well. Based on the sound and its location inside the engine, Jeff reviewed with me the possible causes, what it might take to determine it exactly, and what it might cost to do so. I authorized them to open up the engine & take a look. Later that afternoon, Jeff called to let me know hed reviewed it further with his master mechanics, before opening up the engine, and the consensus was that I should have the car towed to the dealer to have them check it out. He also talked to me again about what the problems could be, what might be needed to determine if repair was possible, and some other things I might want to think about when determining my next steps. They allowed me to keep my car there for several days until I could get other arrangements in place as it was recommended that the car not be driven. In each encounter with Jeff, he was courteous and upfront, did not try to pressure me nor did he charge me for either visit.I can only share my experiences with Pep Boys this past week, and I recognize that others here have not had as positive an experience with the State College Pep Boys, though maybe not as recently. I have had bad experiences with auto repair shops where they know you are in a tight spot and will sell you whatever they think you are willing to buy. That wasnt my experience dealing with Jeff and I sincerely appreciate the help he gave in helping to look at the options, including what Pep Boys could offer, but especially the way he treated me as a customer.

If you’re a girl college student don’t bother going here. The moment I walked in the door one of their older mechanics started winking and smiling at me. Like wow just what I want to feel more uncomfortable here alone, thanks. Then the guy at the desk talks on the phone for so long when there’s a line and I couldn’t tell if he was rude or just had no personality. So I just said forget it and walked out. I recommend Monro on north atherton, way more professional and nice guys.

PepBoys always goes above and beyond to take care of each individual customers needs, whether its staying open a little late to help someone, driving people home or to work, and even in handling situations where a customer may not have been satisfied. A little communication goes a long way. Overall, there is not a better place in State College to have your vehicle serviced. The associates at the desk are knowledgeable and friendly. They take the time to explain the products and services, in most cases even taking the customer out and showing them things on their own vehicle and explaining how they work. They run specials and offer coupons on their website every day, making their prices unbeatable, and they carry a wide variety of tires for every price point.

I give 2 stars instead of one because of the availability of the staff and friendliness of those I dealt with. In a pinch, they were able to get my vehicle in for repairs and most of the staff was friendly.However, I went in with a rear strut problem. I was instructed I needed a full assembly. They quoted me with quick struts. After leaving, I heard multiple noises that were not there before. After going in 2 times with no result, I discovered 3 finger tight lug nuts on my front driver side tire. They have a disclosure in their invoices stating the customer should come back for retorquing after 20 miles. While this is still inexcusable, it is an issue covered by company policy.Upon further investigation, it was found I did not receive the strut assembly but only struts. When I went back in, the manager did not even pull in my car to review, he seemed to have known. He refunded the parts difference and offered free labor for the mounts to be put on.I decided to go elsewhere to get the issue resolved due to a lack of trust and it was found the rear passenger bushing was placed back twisted, causing the loud knocking sound I had been hearing. Having to have my struts completely removed twice when it should have only been once is a waste of time and money.While the employees have been polite enough, this was not handled in the best manner.If anyone uses this pep boys just be vigilant of any unresolved issues and if something doesn’t seem right, fight until it’s sorted. It’s probably best to just go somewhere else though.

Weird and horrible experience to say the least! My husband took his car in a few weeks ago for an 8AM appointment. He was told it would take an hour max. 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 went by and nothing. We were set to leave to see my elderly grandparents 4 hours away and leave at 9:30, that obviously didn’t happen. He finally went to the front desk to ask them what was going on and they said they had completely forgotten about him, even though he was the very first person there. Okay, it happens. Then he got home and he had no sticker and most things he asked to be addressed (his low tire pressure, etc.) were NOT addressed. It was basically a bare bones oil change. Now I was upset. I called over there and Brandon was very nice. He explained the situation, though it was still unacceptable (basically he said that the things were not done/not explained to my husband because they were trying to get him out as fast as they could, which is a really terrible way to do business, but whatever). He made it right by giving my husband a discount and a new tire, which he needed. I thanked him and was happy with the mea culpa.I gave them another shot yesterday on my car, because I was in a rush and needed to get my nails done. I made an appointment for 5:00. When I got there, the service worker at the front desk said, “Yeah, it’s going to be a while.” No problem, I was going to be in the salon next door anyhow for an hour. When I asked him how long, he basically told me he didn’t know because he was leaving in a minute and the guy coming in after him at 5:30 (which, by the way, why would you let me schedule an appointment at 5:00 if you knew no one would be there until 5:30?) was really slow and bad at his job. He told me it would probably take two hours or more. When I asked him if I should seriously leave my car with them, he said it would be fine and he would watch over the process, which of course, he didn’t because he left “30 seconds later (I put this in quotes because this is exactly what he told me he was going to do).” He promised it would be done by 6:15, but continued to tell me how bad the guy who was doing my car was at his job. Like, really punching it. (He also mentioned that most of the people they hire know nothing about cars? Weird thing to mention to someone who needs those people to fix their car, but whatever.). I was really nervous leaving my car there but it was an emergency, as I had waited until the last second. I kept asking if I should really leave my car there, and he kept insisting it would be fine. I went to go get my nails done, even went to the grocery store, so I gave them plenty of time. When I got back, they knew who I was as soon as I walked in the door (not for positive reasons). They told me they had done nothing yet. That my car was on the lift but they hadn’t started. This was at 6:15, the same time I was told it would be done. I had groceries that were time sensitive and was annoyed. The alternative they made me was that they could bring the car down and I could come back, but why should I have done that? I was there for an appointment. Again, this was an emergency so I waited…and waited…and waited. It ended up being the full two hours I was horrifyingly promised.That being said, Kevin and Conor were very kind this time around. Conor explained that Kevin was not bad at his job, he was just new. They made sure I was in and out, and have not had a service complaint yet. I’m not sure of the name of the first guy I spoke with, but yikes. TL;DR, go to Sears. I have been taking my car there for oil changes for years and have had no complaints. I would have gone there this time, but I was going to get there too late to get an appointment for them.

I had my inspection done here after the dealership failed because of a chip in the windshield. Pep Boys acknowledged I had it filled and taken care of and passed me without a problem. Most importantly, Scott and Teresa were so very helpful and FAST. It took the dealership 3 hours and it only took this location 35 minutes. Will definitely be back for more help.

Be careful and make sure you ask questions. I received a price on tires a really good price. The only problem was when I went to pay the price was much higher. They did not give me the price to mount, ballance and all the other charges that other tire dealers automatically include in their pricing. They also just added road side hazard without asking, a very expensive option. On top of that I felt like I was doing them a favor. What happened to customer service. I wont be back anytime soon.

Piss poor service. Had to wait 2 hours for them to tell us that our SUV tire was destroyed which was only 5 months old. They didnt have the same tire or brand so they put the doughnut spare on expecting us to drive down the interstate on it... Highly recommend going elsewhere to get vehicle repair done.. Not the first time Ive heard about their crappy service.

Was disappointed in the overall experience with Pep Boys and Scott, their manager. Took my car in for an inspection. They waited until fifteen minutes before I was supposed to pick up my vehicle to tell me there were issues with the front rotors and tires. Said they sensed the rotors may be warped because they felt it during a test drive. Explained I just had work done a few months ago when the tires were replaced. Also, remarked the car ran perfect on the way to their location. Asked if they were sure they checked it correctly and if the mechanic had the experience to make the call. The caller was not very sure of himself explaining the problem. A few minutes later they called back. Thought they may be calling to better explain the issue. NOT! Scott the manager said my car, with a failed inspection was outside to be picked up. When I got to the store, he was less than considerate and gave me a little attitude. Told him if they would of explained the issue better, I might have got the the work done there. He seemed indifferent. Paid a $55 bill. At least we both agreed he doesnt want my business and I dont really want to give him mine. Probably best to avoid this Pep Boys on East College.

I was a walk-in on Saturday afternoon because of a flat tire. I was taken right in. I should have had to wait for awhile, but a Service Technician who was ready to go to lunch (Russ) postponed his lunch to do what he thought was going to be a quick fix. Turns out the tire was too damaged to be repaired (and he showed me the damage) and he had to replace the tire, which took a little longer. He got me in and out quickly so I could go about my day. I was so thankful!

The guys here treated me really well. I broke down in Black Moshannon park and the towing company recommended Pep Boys. They were right. Mark and Shawn fit me in for repairs and Jim ran the diagnostics and testing to determine the problem and then worked his magic to fix it. I was really impressed with the concern and effort they showed for getting me back on the road, and the quality mechanical work that Jim did on a tough repair job.

This is a horrible location. Do not bring yiur business here. The employees are rude make excuses and are seemingly mentally handicapped or Ill. I was told a simple vehicle inspection would take 30 to 45 min 3 hrs later I was still waiting to even start. I was given exuse after excuse not one person aplogized. This establishment is not worth your money. Better off throwing it away. If this is what os to be expected of pep boys I will never come back.

At the end of July 2012, my 4Runner broke down on the way to a business conference. Jeffrey Robertson, Service Manager, was very accommodating, realizing I was from Pittsburgh and had tight time constraints. Their schedule was also very tight, however he was able to diagnose and repair the vehicle so I could drive home the same day. Great Job done at this particular PEP BOYS and by the Service Manager.

Pep boys in State College is by far the best autoparts store in town. The service is welcoming, helpful, and informative. Every time Ive interacted with the part sales manager he has been extremely friendly, making you want to come back again. Anytime Ive had a legitimate problem with a part they have not given me a hard time for the return/exchange. Will continue to exclusively use these guys until I leave State College. I have utilized Pep Boys services for a long time, but the quality of service has declined significantly lately, and I will no longer plan to seek auto services at this location. A month ago I went in on a Saturday morning to ask about an oil change. I knew it may be a wait (with no appointment), but the answer I was given when I asked was simply No. Not, you could try another day or It would be a long wait, do you want to reschedule just no. I was supposed to get my car inspected there today. When I called to confirm the appointment THEY scheduled for me, they said they dont even have a technician on Tuesdays. I asked why they even bothered then to schedule my appointment for today. No answer. Very, very unprofessional customer service is enough to encourage me to go elsewhere.

I had to get my vehicle inspected as it was past due and I really needed it done TODAY. After several nearby places turned me down (even shops I have used many times), Pep Boys came through and fit me in the afternoon. It was much appreciated and the entire staff was very professionally and friendly. Excellent mechanics. I also got some shopping done while the vehicle was being serviced. My husband made an appointment to get a battery change. Upon arriving he was told that his appointment couldnt be honored, and that the two walk-ins in front of him had priority.He expressed all he wanted was the battery change and they said it would be an entire hour to change the battery. This should be a 15 minute job. Under no circumstances should it take an entire hour, especially when specifying he wanted nothing else inspected or changed.It took two hours to get in and out.This was our first and last time at any Pep Boys.Dont expect your appointment time to be honored when they are busy, and dont expect their battery changing service to take the appropriate amount of time.

I brought in my car for an inspection. My car passed without issue but the inspection took HOURS to complete. The desk staff explained it might take an hour. Not only did the process take much longer than anticipated, but the inspection price was outrageous well over $100. I will not be returning to their shop.

Great experience at Pep Boys State College. I made an appointment online for an oil change and when I went in they had not received the appointment, but they did a great job of working me in. Called in at 515, got there at 525 and left by 545 for patching a nail in the tire. Great customer service shown by Linda, Rob and John while I was there. I came in 5 minutes before closing with a flat tire. Not only did they stay open late to help me with my flat and get me on my way home, they signed me up for the rewards program on the spot so the whole thing was free. I needed to have a flat fixed. I went grocery shopping while waiting and the mechanic found me in there to clarify something... really appreciated that - they could just as easily have waited until I returned and then started the work. Saved me time and it was much appreciated.The hole in the tire was awkward - at a steep angle - but rather than try and sell me a new tire they plugged it and gooped it from the inside and said to try it out and see if it holds.

Ugh!! Decided to get tires here because they were having a sale. The bill was over $800, much more than I expected, and I sat and waited for 4+ hours! Would not recommend going here unless your vehicle is in pristine condition, they will find something that needs fixed.

The quality of work is good. Other reviewers complaining about long waits may be attributed to the fact that they have just 5 technicians for 12 bays. Online work order / appointment scheduling doesnt take that into account and just shows 12 bays to be open and free for service.Had ordered my Pirelli tires and had it shipped to Pep Boys store. They mounted, balanced and had the car ready within an hour as promised. Would definitely go back there. They did have issues with their overall billing system but I did wait patiently for about 20 minutes. Store manger Linda did say its never happened before and their corporates where working to fixing the issue.Do recommend others to use Pep Boys - State College. But try to call them and make appointments for bigger work rather than scheduling online.

My girlfriend took her car here for her inspections and emissions tests after transferring the title of her car from New Jersey. When they were done they told her that her car didnt pass inspection and that there was a lot of work to be done with the transmission even though she just had it repaired in New Jersey. Overall they told her it was going to be 700-900 dollars to pass and repair all of the issues. We ended up taking it to another mechanic and passed inspection no issue. The other mechanic showed us the only thing that needed to be done to the car was a tire that needed replacing because of a gash on the side of it. Pep boys didnt even let us know that there was a problem with any of the tires. I highly recommend getting a second opinion on any work they quote you.
