I went to have a catalytic converter shield installed. It was easy to schedule online. My questions were answered on the phone and online. The shop is clean and orderly in a great location, with nice staff who communicate well. Everything was on time as promised. As I drove away I noticed a new rattle. I drove right back, and they made the necessary adjustment to resolve it. Whats not to love?

I started going to Moss Alley in 2019 and liked them. We moved away, and then were in town for a wedding this past Sunday (8/15). Wouldn’t you know it, my trusty 2000 Lexus started acting up with rough idle. I called Moss Alley first thing Monday morning (8/16) and they were able to get me scheduled and out of there the next morning (8/17). Techs had even stayed late to finish the job. Moss Alley has done a great job for me with friendly techs and service writers, excellent and clear communication, and matter-of-fact talk - no condescending attitudes like you get at some shops - so glad I started using Moss Alley before moving away a couple of years ago. Thanks for taking me on short notice and making sure I got back to Yakima safe and sound!

This place is great. I brought in my Chevy Blazer to them when it broke down, and they got it diagnosed and tried to fix it the issue the same day. When what was diagnosis turned out to not be the issue, they stopped labor, called me, let me know what the other issue might be, and then reduced their labor charge to nearly half of what it really was as a courtesy when I couldnt afford to have them keep working. Don was super professional and friendly the whole way through, and extremely apologetic that the issue they found was unrelated to the main problem. All together they only charged me for two hours of labor, even though they had brought in a new part and done nearly five hours on the car. Fantastic customer service, super understanding (they let me leave my car overnight and get it the next day), friendly and professional. Although this might be it for my truck, Ill definitely be taking my business to them again when something goes wrong.

They could have (and many shops would have) during these economically rough time for businesses came up with issues just to make some money. My other two cars I brought in to check the brakes and same scenario they said they still had plenty of life. Can a review be rated no stars? Maybe not, well, I guess the one star can be them getting the car to start once so I could drive away. It started when my very reliable Rock of a car wouldnt start, I called AAA and the AAA guy said it was definitely the starter, he told me to keep the car running. I took it to Moss motors where I told them that AAA guy told me I needed a new starter. Moss motors said AAA guy was not a mechanic and I would get a new battery (AAA guy had said the battery was OK). I told them I had limited finances and they said I definitely didnt need a new starter. A week later my car didnt start again and AAA guy said it was absolutely the starter. I said I would like to be credited for the money for the battery I didnt need towards the starter that was crucial. They said theyd do something. They examined the car and guess what, the starter needed to be replaced another $450, but then they said Id need a sensor, another $523 and while I was doing the sensor I really should get the serpentine belt replaced and I could be out of their shop tomorrow for a whopping $1,600. They said just break out a credit card. When I said I didnt have that kind of money or credit card and could I make payments the CEO-owner said there were 4owners including himself and the answer was always no. He then demanded that my car be out of his shop the next day if I wasnt getting work done the next day. He said he would call me if he got the car running and I could pick up and if it didnt run he said Well, you have AAA dont you.? What a nightmare!!! Never go to Moss motors they not only will Rob you but they do it with a serious lack of compassion and respect for the customer.

They are friendly and easy to deal with - for example, they make a clear distinction between repairs that are strongly recommended vs those that are optional. Kind of a story, bare with me... It was a dark and stormy night:I was driving up Rainier and my check engine light came on. I just got this 22 year old car and am not surprised. I was at a stop light and see steam coming from under my hood, note the temp gauge is through the roof hot, stop at a gas station to see what was going on..the overflow for the radiator was bubbling it was so hot! I was close to my destination and decided to keep driving and let it cool down when I got there. After driving a couple more blocks Im nervous and decide to pull over to let it cool down a bit more. I park (slightly illegally) half way blocking a driveway, periodically looking at the business to make sure Im not pissing anyone off (its 6:45 pm so not much issue there), after about 8 minutes I turn the car on enough to see the gagues move...still kind of hot. Try after 5 minutes more and its cooler so I try to turn the engine over to get to my friends. Car doesnt start?! Ugh! Turned on my hazzards and assess my predicament. I see movement from my right and see the garage door opening, I see a guy looking at me so I get out and apologize that the car engine wont turn over. He says: We work on Toyotas here, want me to move you in? Eff yes, AJ! You and all the employees I had contact with made my day(s). I know towing would have ended up being expensive, especially after hours prices! They got my car evaluated quickly, pricing was reasonable, I was able to easily arrange after hours pick up. Now I have a mechanic I can rely on and will recommend. Thank you all for being awesome ❤️

Review №63

Where to begin... the shop did not make me furious, the manager, not sure thats the correct title, AJ tried to rip me off. I own a 2006 Land Rover, and I recently drove it 3,000 miles across country, from Alaska to Seattle, with a very heavy load. It is an older car, and it did have a cv joint rip out of the wheel (axle part) in the mountains of British Columbia, plagued by construction.Being a robust tank of a vehicle, I managed to continue to drive it 650 miles across the US/CAN border and to my new home in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The axle did fail after I hit something very hard in the road surface, possibly a pot hole, that blew my tire. That is when the axle joint popped out. Its not a crazy issue, but something did happen with the brakes, that I had to take care of on the trip, limiting the braking action of a 6,000 lb vehicle, though they still do work.I took it to Moss Alley Motors as my insurance suggested them, only 2 blocks away from where I live, but now I scour every time I travel pass that building.Of course it is an auto shop, so they want to get every penny from you - not to say that some of the employees there were very professional and customer service oriented. However, the mechanical write-up was a bit much, so I tried to negotiate on what work they could do for me and what I would do myself - it is Seattle, cars are certainly not a priority. The main issue with the vehicle is that right before it arrived at the shop, it over-heated, and that can be very detrimental to Jaguar engines. I took a look at their write-up, and when the insurance declined to cover the costs, due to it being deemed normal wear-and-tear, I decided I needed them to only really do the brake job and overheating problem, as the axle part only cost $100, and could be done easily at home. They quoted me around $5,000 to do this job, and that is not the shocking part. Yes, it is a Land Rover, so the parts will cost a lot; however, this AJ wanted to replace every single part on the car, around $2,000 for the brakes... excessive. When I requested only the overheating issue, he declined to work on the vehicle at all.He said, It is a matter of FACT, the rig wont move without the axle. I then told him that I had driven 650 miles from the mountains of British Columbia to get it here, and it did just fine. He laughed at me. He told me it was all or nothing, and to me that is trying to swindle a proper, progressive, citizen of this country out of good money, right when I just moved 3,000 miles across country. I am a veteran and a student. I just moved here to attend University.Perhaps the most infuriating thing that happened, was when I went to pick the truck up, to have it towed, and the mechanics turned it on, reversed and pulled forward about a dozen times to get it out of the garage for the flat bed to get access to it - THE RIG MOVED MATE! The rig or truck MOVED! I saw it drive out of the garage with my own eyes! It is a matter of FACT, the rig wont move. - AJ at Moss Alley Motors trying to swindle me out of $5,000, when I ordered all the parts I need for the truck to be 100% again for roughly $300.....

Unless you want to overpay, dont go here. Everything is at least 200 bucks more than anywhere else I have ever taken my vehicles. Ive had two experiences here, both were vehicle inspections and in both cases they added up a lot of work that the cars obviously did not need. Good tires were rated bad, oil changes were claimed to be needed when in fact I had the DAY BEFORE just changed the oil. Not only are they overpriced, by at least 33%, they add up work that is not needed. Beware.Edit: I cant figure out how to reply in-line to Moss Alley Motors response. So I will respond here, in my edit.I have had two cars into Moss Alley. The first was our 2002 Subaru Impreza, that we were buying. The second was a pre-sale on a 2000 Tacoma that we were selling. On both vehicles Moss Alley added up what we thought were too many charges, at pretty high prices. Like maybe you can sell your services to college kids that dont know Seattle very well prices, but overall pretty high. The Subaru was first, and we still bought the car. The Tacoma was only because that was the place the buyer of our car wanted to take our vehicle to for pre-inspection. So ok.When the pre-inspection came back I remember distinctly pulling out my oil change paperwork from the day before to show that even the oil change you were recommending, etc, had all been done... the previous day. Like... did you all check the dipstick?I think I have the receipts for the first time we stopped buy, I can scan and post them and then compare to other shops prices for the same work you all quoted, would that help everyone?
