I’ve been a patient with Dr. Marcos Ortega’s dental office for years. I wouldn’t go anywhere else in San Diego. Dr. Ortega is honest (I.e he doesn’t diagnose treatments that are not necessary) and treats his patients with care. His staff is also excellent. Valeria is my favorite dental hygienist — she is knowledgeable and gentle with cleanings. The office is clean and modern. If you are looking for a dentist is San Diego, I recommend Dr. Marcos Ortega!

****EXTREMELY UNSAFE PRACTICES DURING COVID-19****All folks in the office were very friendly and knowledgeable, so I want to make that clear first. That being said, I witnessed several dangerous violations of COVID-19 protocol during my only 2 interactions with this office. Had I known that this office was not fully following guidelines, I would not personally have made the choice to go here as a new patient, so Im writing this in case anyone else is in that same boat so you can make a choice more suited to your level of comfort in dealing with this virus.Upon my initial appointment, I waited outside in the hallway to be screened, as that is what was posted on the door. I stood outside for several minutes, and observed while I waited. One male employee or doctor (NOT Dr. Ortega) was walking around the office with no mask on, talking within very close range to others and didnt seem concerned about it. I could tell he was a doctor or medical professional, so I didnt question it verbally, and he did eventually put a mask on, before I was waved in without any screening. The screening happened once already in the office.Upon my second appointment, I walked up to the window again, and stood outside. This time, there were two separate patients sitting less than two feet from each other in chairs that were not even attempted to be distanced, and one of them had no mask on at all. I made eye contact with several masked techs and pointed to him through the window and motioned about his mask. I was ignored.When the front desk manager noticed me standing outside, she motioned me into the office. Not only would it have been physically impossible for me to stay 6 feet from either of the two patients sitting in the waiting room already, but I had been watching someone breathing into that extremely small room with no mask on for several minutes, which the CDC and WHO are saying is dangerous in small spaces. I was also told (and it was posted) that I would be pre-screened before I entered, but that did not happen either time.Only once I made it clear that I wasnt coming inside because one of the folks in the waiting room did not have a mask on did the front desk manager ask an employee to give the man a mask. The employee handed him one and came outside to tell me to come in. I stayed outside, and asked why someone was in there without a mask on, just in case there was an explanation, and I was simply told that if I didnt feel comfortable, I didnt have to come to my appointment. I was sort of shocked by that response, and when I then asked, but isnt that illegal and unsafe for him to be in there without a mask on because of COVID? Your sign says everyone has to have a mask I was told yes, it is, but he has a mask now. No apology, no admittance that it was a mistake, just telling me I could leave if I didnt feel comfortable with them blatantly putting myself and others health in danger. I left, as I did not feel safe.I called back later that day to settle my bill from the first appointment and get the information sent over so I could still use my x-rays, and the receptionists first thing she said about what happened was that she didnt even notice that he did not have a mask on. If they were screening folks at the door like they said they were, how would that happen? If they were checking his temperature during that screening like they had said they would, how would they miss this? He had been sitting there for at least the several minutes since I had been there and several employees had looked directly at him.I understand that everyone has different levels of comfort with this virus, and we are all free to make our own choices at home, but when I come to a doctors office, I expect my health to be the top priority, and it was very clear that was not the case here in regards to COVID-19.

From Julie at the front desk the staff and Dr. Ortega, they’ve always made my dental visits a good one. I’ve been a patient for the last 2 years and have had two molar extractions done by Dr. Ortega that were more difficult than usual, and both times, Dr. Ortega’s expertise has shined in handling the challenge seemingly with ease, taking the time and care in the process. Thank you all for your services!

I have been a patient of Dr. Ortega‘s for about three years now. He has performed complex treatments, referred me to excellent specialists, and his hygienists have cleaned my teeth better than any office I’ve been to. I appreciate this that his office is run in a timely and smooth manner! His demeanor is calm, friendly and I am thankful that he “gets in and gets out!” My most recent visit was an emergency, under COVID-19 rules. His staff employed all protocols for safety and a few extra that were explained to me. I felt EXTREMELY comfortable and safe for the two hour treatment. Dr Ortega is amazing. His dental assistant and he work so well together and as much as I dislike dental work, they made the treatment about as comfortable and fast as it could possibly be.

I literally had to pick a name out of a hat. Thought I had a dental emergency. I contacted the office and from the first contact, I was impressed. I arrived for my appointment a little stressed. Everyone was so nice. I felt like I was a long time client. They got me right in, saw Dr. Bowman, had some exrays done. Even got my teeth cleaned! No emergency after all. Great experience and I highly recommend this office. A special thanks to Mary Beth, Bonnie and Denise.

Recently had cleaning and a couple fillings. Dr Ortega’s office is locked until you’re let in for appt. at which time you wash your hands and swish your mouth with a peroxide mixture. No waiting room time. Each cubicle has a high capacity HEPA air purifier and everyone seems double masked. That felt extremely safe. On top of which, Dr Ortega and staff, besides being extremely informative and professional, are also a warm caring group. Couldn’t be happier (unless it was free). Highly recommended!

Dr. Ortega is sharp, thorough, communicates well and is always checking on you and your comfort. I let him know I wanted to be informed and he communicates with me throughout the root canal procedure.

Dr Ortega and his staff have taken me thru extractions, implants, venners, and all other procedures for over 10 years. I have never been anything but completely satisfied and impressed with thier work. You want the best when someone is reaching into your mouth with power tools, absolutely.

Great dental care. Ive been a patient for over a year when I came in for a cleaning and start Invisalign. The entire staff, from the greeting at the front, to dental hygienists/assistants, and of course Dr. Ortega, are remarkable in their ability to ensure you have a comfortable experience, and you are provided top-notch dental attention. I took my family here mid morning on August 26th for a series of check-ups. My parents have been in the medical and dental fields for decades, so I feel uniquely qualified to point out a few special details about Dr Ortega’s practice and his staff.The front office is easily the best run medical/dental office I have found in San Diego. The waiting room is small, but highly efficient and the lady working there did an incredible job explaining everything (including treatment billing and insurance matters) clearly to my wife and me, while also creating a calm atmosphere for my children, who were a little nervous about their first trip to the dentist.The hygienist did a fantastic job working with my young children and I’m honestly shocked at how well she was able to keep them still and relaxed for as long as they did.Dr. Ortega was the perfect balance of kind and direct. We were running quite late because of our own errors, but at no point did I feel like we were being rushed. The exams were thorough enough to create a well-thought-out treatment plan which Dr. Ortega clearly explained the various prioritized courses of action.The whole staff was knowledgeable and kind. I highly recommend this dental practice.

Yesterday was my first appointment at Marcos Ortega DDS. I was really nervous because dentists usually look at my mouth with horror and scream as they back out of the room, but Marcos Ortega DDS was super nice and helpful. I was so relieved that he didnt judge me or make me feel worse because my teeth are bad, he just did his best to help me out. Thank god my search for a great dentist is done!

Dr Ortega is a true gem. He is professional and very nice. I believe he wants whats best for me and my teeth and that is the best thing you can say about a dental professional. My hygienist Mary is also exceptional. She is very informed and is always talking about the latest advancements and studies relating to teeth cleaning. Her Dad is a heart surgeon and I think her background from a family in medicine makes her considerably different than other hygienists with limited knowledge.

I found this place based off of the reviews, so Im paying it forward by adding on. I am beyond impressed with the professional and pleasant nature of everyone there. Dr. Ortega took the time to address each of my concerns and has a conservative and quantitative approach to determine when fillings are needed, which is exactly what I was looking for. Isabelle was a dream! She was amazingly thorough and I left with my teeth looking and feeling perfect and clean. I never felt rushed and they really care about their patients health and comfort. I wasnt sure if I was allowed to get another exam at the start of the new year, but Maureen was proactive and handled everything with my insurance and it all worked out with zero headaches. 100% recommend for your general dentistry needs (cant review for the rest of their services, but if I ever need any, Im looking there first!).

I wanted to wait to write this until I’ve complete a year here as a patient. From the very beginning the experience I’ve had with the entire staff at Dr Ortega’s office has been nothing short of excellent. I can go I to detail about each person I’ve met. But this is what you need to know:They’re honest, fun, and cover everything I’ve asked for or needed, but mos timoortantly to me they do exceptional work. I had to get 14 fillings done in a short period of time. Everything from scheduling appointments to careful and meticulous placement of fillings and the execution of each filling was fine perfectly. What’s more is that Dr Ortega took the necessary amount of time to make sure each one was done right and there were only very minor adjustments to them if any afterward.I’m very happy with my experience here and I’m hoping to get my wife to switch her dentist because I believe this group is better than most out there. Easy 5 stars!

Not just Dr. Ortega, who is super-professional and friendly, but the entire staff is excellent. This is one modern office. You get text reminders, can book way in advance, and each time I visit I see something new. I have been a patient for over 20 years, and all my family are patients. When the kids were little, Dr Ortega recommended a child dental specialist, but now that they are big kids, we all see Dr. Ortega. I cant recommend the office, the staff and Dr. O more highly!

Dr. Ortega is amazing!! He is excellent at his work, cares about his patients and provides superior care and treatment. Dr. Ortega has been my dentist since I was a youngin (now about to turn 25) and I would not even think of going anywhere else. His staff is very professional and courteous. I am a patient of Dr.Ortegas so when my 7 year old was having a toothache I spoke to the office and they were able to diagnose and do the treatment that same morning. Dr.Ortega did a great job and my daughter didnt show the least bit of fear while in his chair!! She even wrote the entire office thank you notes :)

I have been going to Dr. Ortegas office on Hillcrest for the past 4-5 years, and he will be my dentist so long as I live in the San Diego area. Super relaxed atmosphere, great staff (reception/hygienist), plus the office completed a remodel about three weeks ago that is really nice. When I had a bunch of work done maybe two or three years ago, Ortega et al were able to price it out by priority so as to maximize use of my employers health benefits. Additionally, when one of the fillings I had done popped out, they replaced it free of charge, no questions asked. My wife also has been going there for about a year or so and she has the same response. Excellent dentist.
