UPDATE: July 2021 - Things have not changed. Great build, but the current manager continues to allow implemented health and safety violations to continue. The apartment itself is outstanding. Amenities are outstanding. Location is less than desirable with the increased issues with the homeless, but isnt managements fault, but things seem to be getting better.Shift is touted as a high end luxury apartment complex in East Village. In reality, it has become a fraternity house (Kappa Kappa Shift), with students from local colleges that throw parties on the pool deck.Very difficult to have the current manager have residents follow the established rules that everyone agreed upon when filling out paperwork to live here. This disregard for the resident rules decreases the overall appeal of Shift. Example - a sign on the penthouse deck on Super Bowl Sunday saying residents only, no guests, no smoking (or access to pool deck would be removed for anyone breaking the rules). There were over 200 people on the pool deck throughout the day, smoking, drunk, using drugs, security unable to do anything and the manager (who happens to live onsite) nowhere to be found.Until there is either a radical change by the current manager to listen to the residents, fix the current issues and follow the rules that residents signed when leasing (guest policy, noise policy, no smoking, etc), or upper management steps in and fixes the many issues, my rating will remain two star. When that change happens, it becomes five star. Simple fixes.
One of the best properties Ive lived in. Very professional and caring leasing team. The amenities are top quality. I feel like Im living at a resort. If I could purchase a unit in my building I would!
Just moved in, but great experience getting into my new place. Kelechi in the leasing office was a great host while I toured the facility, showed me everything I was looking at online - no questions asked, he just got it done. He had an answer for everything and made sure I had it in writing when I signed for the place. Very happy with my new place, but thats because I knew exactly what I was getting when I got here.
This place is amazing! The amenities are great, the leasing reps are great, and maintenance is great. Right now, because of CoVID, it may be hard to come into the office when you need something but you can always email, call, or send them a message via the app. We love our new place and hope to be here for years to come!
We did a tour of Shift with Adam and he was hands down the most professional, friendly, attentive, and enthusiastic leasing agent ever! We were blown away by his stellar communication skills and attention to detail. We were very particular with the units we were looking for and Adam did the best he could to accommodate us and find the perfect apartment unit. He was really down to earth and easy to talk to, while being the most professional agent I have spoken to during my many apartment tours in downtown San Diego. The apartment complex itself and amenities were really new and beautiful, and the apartment units were spectacularly clean with impeccable views. Unfortunately the move in date wouldn’t work for us and the 2B2B floor plan with a balcony we were looking for was really popular and in-demand, so we ended up going somewhere else. If they had one available at that moment to move in, I am 100% confident I would have gone with Shift because of Adam’s amazing hospitality and the beautiful apartment. Thank you Adam for showing us around and for doing an awesome job!
Leasing and management here are incredible, staff is super friendly and the events are incredible! The rooftop amenities here and views from our apartment is something we truly enjoy living here
The apartment is beautiful. Maintainace has been good. It’s been difficult to reach out to the leasing office though. Mainly because their office is always closed as opposed to when it used to be open.
I moved in 1 week ago and it has exceeded my expectations. Kelechi was extremely helpful and helped me find the perfect unit. The building is very impressive and the staff is very accomodating.
Great place to live. Is one of the few places on this side of town that you can get 3 parking spots.
MOST DISHONEST COMPANY IVE EVER WORKED WITH. Before my move in the property manager Brian Promised me and many other leasers that unlike the building across the street they would never do short term rentals. lived there about 10 months. After that everything went down hill. They started sonder short term rentals. Over night it turned into a hotel. Constant parties, pool packed with horrible people that dont live there. I asked to be let out of my lease along with many others. They refused, I was terrorized in my home by people with short stays by noise and partying. I had no choice but to leave. I followed my legal councils advice and gave notice and had it pro cleaned. And waited for them to take me to court. however they never did and added it to my credit report that has perfect history. They flat out lied to all the residents. and all later claimed they never said they wont do short term rentals. All the residents agreed they were told that. They were very polite but lied the whole time. Constantly told I would be called back and never was . I would never advise anyone to get involved with these people. I moved across the street cost was less and apartment is way bigger . No issues
Theyre nice spacious big very comfortable. Im trying to move there myself I would recommend it to a friend and family member and so when I didnt know their family their cousins its really nice comfortable homey
Ive lived at Shift for about 4 months now and absolutely love it. The building and amenities are stunning. I was sold on the rooftop pool! Daniel and Annette the apartment life team help keep things fun and social with activities all the time. It is definitely a great community to call home!
We did a tour with Kelechi Ndoh and easily the most knowledgeable and professional tour guide ever. You my friend deserve a raise!
Brushed pff when we wanted to tour so moved to spire across the street. Happy we didnt move there. They dont adhere to covid policies.
Aaron Kirby is awesome! He helped me with the leasing process and was very helpful with everything! 5 star for customer service!
Stayed here because its close to work. Nice view of downtown n Coronado, would be a-lot better if there not so many homeless loitering .
Leasing team and management is great, but apartment itself could offer more for the rent being paid. If corporate is reading, please give these guys more funding to accommodate the residents!Just wanted to add that the Apartment Life team is great! Shout out to Daniel and Annette! They throw great events 😎
This is the best apartment complex Ive ever lived in!! Everyone Ive come across who works here has been extremely kind, helpful, and supportive! I especially appreciate the fact that they have an onsite Care Team (Apartment Life) that goes out of their way to make residents feel welcomed and part of the community...thank you Daniel & Annette!P.S. The missing star is not a reflection of the building nor the staff, but rather, things outside of their control
They share the building with a boxing club that doesnt require masks. Most of those people use the Shift elevators. Dont move here if you care about not contracting covid.
I signed a 18 month lease with Shift, and I believe I was one of the first 200 residents when the building opened. As a transplant from the bay area, looking for an apartment very last minute, from what I saw it was the best bang for a buck. The amenities are top notch, they had activities and gatherings almost monthly for residents, the actual apartment (studio) was designed efficiently and beautifully while having some of the best technological additions (I still miss my black geometric backsplash and lutron lights and shades). Unfortunately for me, 6 months after moving in I lost my job and the management team worked with me while I found a new job. If I had found a job that paid me nearly what I was making before, Id still be at Shift, no doubt. I will say I didnt utilize the rooftop deck as much as I should have so I cannot comment on things like the lounge chairs being taken up or unavailable BBQs. I did use the shared office space off of the lobby frequently after hours and it was always clean, quiet and perfect for getting some late night work done. Last thing, one of the best features is that I NEVER heard my neighbors. When a guy moved in next door, it took me months to realize that he had TWO dogs. So either those dogs were exceptionally well trained and never barked, or the walls are so thick that I never heard them bark.
I lived here for nearly two years. The apartments and staff are great, but I want to personally call out Nina for solving all my problems throughout my stay. She goes above and beyond and is always had answers and followed-up on all my request. Thanks Nina and staff
I can not say enough amazing things. Such a beautiful complex, the tech that is in every apartment home in unlike any other that I have seen before. The amenities are all equally as awesome. Jose in leasing is the greatest, he helped so much and even though we were being annoying he was happy to help to help us every step of the way! Cant wait to move in!!
Rude Erin!!! Don’t call him he will hang up the phone instead of helping you out!
Perfect place for transplants to get ripped off and live near skid row.
Worst place possible to live. Construction noises & inconveniences daily. In a horrible location near the homeless population’s epicenter the soup kitchen. Boarders a bad neighborhood and is unsafe at night. Water shutoffs, malfunctioning fire alarms, and garage parking obstructions are the norm here. Management is poor and inconsistent, amenities are nice but expect to be harassed by the “security guards” who stand outside the building and ask where you live making it more uncomfortable. Would NOT reccommend to anyone wishing i could give 0 stars for this absolute dump
Love downtown San Diego
