Shaolin West have me hope on movement again and also helps me find my mental focus with QiGong. Sifu Rick and the students are welcoming, patient, and encouraging. I love that there is no time set to your progression and advancement only you finding your way. I struggled for 2 years as a military veteran with not doing exercise because I was in so much pain but being at Shaolin West has changed that.
Shaolin-do West SA is an extremely welcoming place. Master Rick is an excellent instructor and has many classes that are beginner friendly. The adult and kids programs are very thorough and well planned.
Great Dojo to learn Kung Fu. My son is been attending Master Ricks School for 5 months and he love it. Master Rick is an excellent teacher and is good with kids.
Me and my family have been attending Master Ricks school for 3 years. Master Rick and all of the other students are always very welcoming. Going to classes is one of my favorite parts of the week. I highly recommend visiting and taking a class.
Great place to learn kung fu and tai chi! My husband and I, and our two kids, have been taking classes here for about 1.5 years and are loving it. Master Rick really knows his stuff and is a fun and engaging teacher. Youll find everyone from 5 year-olds to seniors at the school, which makes it a comfortable/welcoming environment for people like us who are learning kung fu for the first time. Shaolin Do has a lot of depth/history, so you get to learn everything from animal forms to street fighting methods to weapons techniques, etc. And theres a diverse array of kids and adult classes/workshops (both in-person and virtual) that keep you interested and coming back for more. Highly recommended!
I’ve been studying with Master Rick for over 2 years. He is knowledgeable and an excellent instructor for both kids and adults. Highly recommend if you’re interested in traditional tai chi or kung fu!
Master Rick is excellent . Always watching out for his students mental and physical well being.Definitely recommend Shaolin-Do Kung-Fu, and Master Rick.
Master Rick is a fantastic instructor! His experience in both Kung Fu and as a prior teacher enables him to to really reach younger students. This school is a family with advanced belts engaged and assisting beginners, working through material together and inspiring each other. If you’d like to learn traditional Chinese Kung Fu including styles like tiger, crane, and preying mantis, come to this school. If you think kung fu isn’t your speed or your really like to work on balance, energy, and your inner self, come learn Tai Chi, if you’ve always wanted to know how to use nunchucks, swords, or spears this is the martial arts school for you!
Great place to learn Tai chi
Both of our children have attended for about a year and have learned so much form Sifu Rick. As a former science teacher he is skilled at helping the children have fun, learn the history and techniques of Shaolin Do and encourages them to be good students and responsible stewards of the tradition. Focus is on learning in the younger ages, so no sparring. In the older kids classes they begin to use the techniques they are learning. The younger ones (5-9 ish) are focused on learning discipline, respect and being intentional in their movements. We visited several martial arts studios in San Antonio, this one had the best blend of teaching children to defend themselves along with a strong focus on restraint and respect for other people. LOVE IT! It is also well priced. My husband joined in January and is already obsessed!
