My 5 year old son Ben has been training jiu jitsu for almost 2 years now with Professor Fabi and he absolutely loves it. He not only loves the challenges it provides but the environment is really tailored for learning and falling in love with the lifestyle. I recommend all my friends and family with kids to go try it out. They will fall in love with jiu jitsu. You can tell that Professor Fabi has a true passion for teaching kids and the kids can feel the energy she brings. We are blessed to be apart of this amazing team and family.

We enrolled our 6-year old daughter here almost a year ago. Its probably the best thing weve ever done for her. We have watched her confidence bloom. Her ability to focus and pay attention in school has increased significantly. These kids learn leadership skills and respect for self and others. They work hard and play hard (and sleep well). They build friendships and a healthy competitive spirit in a safe environment. The staff and families are welcoming and encourage each other. Professor Fabiana is a strong female role model. What a gift for our sons and especially our daughters. All the instructors are excellent. They are all patient, kind, encouraging, tough... They all have high expectations of these kids, and the kids always rise to challenge. I highly recommend this place.

While I don’t get to visit as often as I would like when I am in town, and can make it in I am always made to feel welcome - even though it is not my “home” school. My spouse does get to train there on a regular basis, and has also received a warm welcome with attentive and knowledgeable instruction. Many thanks to all the great staff!

I train in Houston but I was looking for a place while visiting family (in laws) in San Antonio. Great visit found a new home. Professor Fabiana was so welcoming I decided to do a private with her after class. So glad I did. She offered some very unique solutions to problems Ive been having with larger opponents. This place is very clean and family friendly. Also attended Coach Benitos class Sunday morning - had a great time.

I was in town, visiting the Alamo, and decided to come to the advanced class. They showed me some really good attacks from the turtle position and went right into rolling. Lots of fun and good vibes. Great gym!

Just joined the adult classes and everyone has been so kind and supportive. So much fun and instructors as well as the upper belts are very patient. Nice pacing to each class and it is a phenomenal workout. So glad I joined.

Prof Fabianas school is a rare school that can cater to both the international competitor, and those who are just looking for a great way to stay in shape with jiu-jitsu. For the competitor, her experience as a World and Pan American Champion is invaluable. For those looking for a way to improve fitness and confidence, her positive attitude is contagious. Her kids classes are great, and she takes a personal interest in each of her students. My 8 and 10 year old daughters enjoy the large number of girls in the class, and this can be seen in her adult classes as well. Prior academies I have trained at had maybe one or two regular females. She is also exceptionally good with little rascals, including my stubborn 3 year old son :).

You cant go wrong with Gracie Barra! Jiujitsu has been an excellent, new, and different way to not only improve my physical well-being, but also my mental health and confidence. There are classes offered at a variety of times throughout the day, pretty much regardless of skill. Even if you cant train like a champ, you can still get better even twice a week. Professor Fabiana goes above and beyond to maintain a professional, welcoming environment, along with all of her coaching stuff, and Ive never been made to feel unwelcome by any training partner. Professor Fabiana is a great instructor. She is great with children. Her ability to teach children to have confidences and self esteem are second to none. She is patient and friendly to everyone.

These reviews on here are half bogus. 25 reviews and all give it a 5 stars. Right! I had my daughter go to this school when she first started out and was 4 years old. It was GREAT then. The reason being is because the instructor is soft spoken (with an accent) and friendly for kids. Great for young ones who are just starting out and dont want to be intimidated.Now here is the issues. Hopefully the management reads this and fix the issues as a lot of people who are doing the reviews are lying to themselves. My daughter have been there for several years now. Her progress has slow down. They teach the same craps over and over and over. Nothing new. Then they give belt advancement for attendance and not necessary on what the child know or have learned. At tournaments, Gracies kids who are gray belt are getting their butt whoop by kids elsewhere with white belt. That is a problem dont you think? All you ever hear about is the Superman move. Its ridiculous. Also, all of her helper and clueless. They are just helping out to get some free classes. I saw a kid once almost yang another kids arm off with an arm bar and the assistant just stood there looking at it.Also, please do a better job of washing the mat. Its stinks like feet in there all the time. I know there is sweat from everyone but a constant smell of dirty feet is disgusting. I hated that my daughter is rolling around on the disgusting GERM floor.And last but not least, turn the AC on during the summer and Heat on during the Winter. Dont be so cheap. Its hot and sweaty in there during the summer heat.Bottom line is that its OK. A 2 or 3 Star out of 5 Star. Great for newbies but after a year or so, move them elsewhere as there are better school out there. Yes the name Gracie Barra is well known dues to the good marketing they have done. However, a school or class is just as great as the instructor and helpers that teaches the class.One last advice, people signed up for the class to be taught by the main instructor, not the assistants who are White, Gray or Blue belt. The main instructor is a black belt but she is constant gone all the time here and there. She travels all the time for competition. What are you paying for? Are you paying the high price to be taught by the assistants or the Black Belt Instructor who is not there to teach you as she is on the move.I hope this help and I hope the management take this as a constructive criticisms and hopefully they will make it better.

I shopped around before visiting Prof Fabiana Borges Gracie Barra San Antonio school, but none of them were right for me. I knew after my first class that this was it. BJJ is a workout for the body, the mind, and the heart. Its magical like that. But its intimidating, too.But the GBSA family, its structure, and its culture, manage to pull off the trick of making newcomers feel safe but challenged at the same. (Plus, its a lot of fun, too!)I recommend it to all my friends, and I will never stop.Try it out!

Professor Fabiana has established an amazing program and an excellent facility in San Antonio. I visited on business for two weeks in October 2018 and trained there three times a week. The facilities are clean and spacious (there are changing rooms!). The instruction is top notch and delivered in an easy to understand manner.The upper belts are exceptional and encourage the lower belts with helpful tips during the class on how to improve their BJJ. Professor Fabiana even took the time to talk with me — a mere visitor — after class and share her observations and advice on balancing technique with power with the goal of improving how I roll. I am grateful for the warm welcome and exceptional professionalism combined with friendliness.She also has a well attended kids class and a growing women’s program. If you want to start or pick back up in BJJ and live in San Antonio, this is the place to go!UPDATE (Sep. 28, 2020): Prof. Fabiana continues to provide a top-notch academy that I recommend without reservation. We are really grateful to have found this studio for our son, now 6 yrs old. He has been taking classes here for about a year, and we continue to be impressed. Both my husband and I have backgrounds in martial arts, so weve seen our fair share of kids martial arts classes. Professor Fabiana is extremely skilled at working with kids. She is patient, teaches the material to their level, and has a very positive way of motivating students and imparting a good work ethic that translates off the mat as well. Like many 6 yr old boys, ours is extremely high energy and typically loses interest in things quickly, but even after a year he looks forward to his jiu jitsu practices and is excited to learn new skills. In fact, he switched elementary schools, but we still drive 30 minutes after school to take him to this studio.

Everyone is SUPER nice and makes you feel welcomed! They try very hard to get to know your name and your family right away. Highly recommended! Give them a try during a FREE intro class!VERY kid-friendly! Awesome for women too!They are passionate about teaching self-defense and anti-bullying maneuvers, they sometimes offer FREE classes! Well organized and the kids get quite a work out each time! There is always at least the Professor and 1-2 coaches instructing the class giving the kids a good student to teacher ratio each lesson. They even have Parents Night Out once a month!This place is also VERY professional. They wear a full Gracie Barra jiu-jitsu Gi uniform each class. If you do not have one, you can rent one monthly ($30) or just buy one ($150). They will let you borrow one during the free intro class, so no worries! You pay for what you get. And this is definitely the way to go!

I was looking for a martial arts program for my family. I was impressed with the professionalism and politeness of not only the instructors but also of the students. So many times you find those in the martial arts try to impress you with how tough they are and how much you dont know. Gracie Barra Professor Fabiana and Coach Benito have welcomed my 3 daughters and 1 son(ages 21-13). They look forward to each class. Coach Alexa was very accommodating in finding Gis and arraigning a payment plan. I am very pleased with the toughness of the program,while at the same time they are concerned with the safety of the fighters. If you look at the Marine and Army Combatives programs,you will see that they are adapting to this style of fighting.

My experience here with professor Fabiana Has been great. The higher belts take care of you they will help you if you need assistance. The people there are so friendly and with jiu jitsu you can meet alot of new friendly people who are a good influence on you. Muay Thai class is amazing coach gabe is really good and he will also be really strict sometimes butthats only cuz he wants to see you improve. I was looking for a workout outlet that would improve my mind, body and soul! I found that outlet at Gracie Barra San Antonio with Professor Fabiana. With everyday stresses of life and internal dialogue there is nothing better than having 1 to 2 hours were there is nothing your thinking about other than how am I going to get out of this armbar, triangle, uma-plata, wrist lock or what ever else your training partner comes up with(hahaha and they come up with some stuff). The atmosphere is one of safety and compassion for your training partner and yourself. After every class I leave with a full peace of mind and a sense of achievement. I want to thank Professor Fabiana for bring this gentle Martial Art from Brazil to San Antonio and her overall love for the sport and the benefits it brings with it(cardio, flexibility, strength, self-awareness, compassion, will to be a better person, self defense, self confidence, problem solving skills). I know absolutely ZERO about BJJ, but when I mentioned to a co-worker of mine who used to compete in MMA and trains at BJJ who my son was learning from, he told me without reservation, Fabiana is the real deal. Hes going to be lucky to learn from her, shes a PanAm and world champion.. In the few times Ive been able to watch my son (10 years old), you can tell instantly that not only does Fabiana know her craft well, she has a knack in dealing with kids and makes the classes not only informative for them, she makes them fun. Thats not to say its just a bunch of kids running around in kimonos learning nothing, these kids are learning the craft and learning it well. I made the mistake one evening of asking my son to show me some of what hes learned from Fabiana. Waking up the next morning and having to will my arm to move so I could brush my teeth isnt all that much fun.

My son Cody has been training here for over a year and as an instructor for the Army myself, you will not find a more suitable training environment for yourself or your family. I trust professor Fabi with my childs training and discipline 100%.
