I started this gym pre covid with high expectations on how well this gym treated its members. I was hesitant and going into a contract because gyms and contracts don’t mix very well and often times they’re are things that are hidden. When covid hit they still made their members pay even though the gym was closed. That didn’t sit well with me and it didn’t seem that this gym cared about their members only their monthly dues so I decided not to go back. When I talked to an employee about My membership and I specifically asked at the end of my contract will you stop taking money out of my account. The employee stated “yes it will automatically stop.” It is now five months after my contract ended and the fourth phone call that I asked for someone to send me a cancellation form that I can sign, because I am still getting charged monthly. Every single person that I have talk to says theyll send it to me in my email. I currently have Covid so I can’t go down and sign it myself or else I would. This gym does not care about the members and would rather charge you every single month.

Any benefit that is gained by the experience of using the gym is negated by the customer service and the inept cancellation process. Cancellation is argues and meant to be burdensome. It is not user friendly for the customer and serves no purpose but to solicit more money from you over a longer period of time. This of course is their policy. There are to many other options out there for you to choose from that realize your time and money is valuable. In the computer age, the cancellation process should be painless and paperless. The company can just read any number of customer complaints to know they need to fix their business plan. My recommendation to the company would be to use one of the many e-signature options out there to address their problem (unless of course they are just trying to steal money from their customers). My recommendation to anyone considering utilizing their services, run fast to another gym.Things you must comply with to cancel your services:* must know key number (this is important for when you go to the website to request the cancellation form)* 60 day notice* request cancellation through email which can only be accomplished through their website. No email address will be provided to you and No phone number will be given out for you to talk to a person. Once on their website, no confirmation that your email was received will be provided. You are to wait 72 hours and then check your junk email. If you still see nothing start this process over again.* the front desk staff will not be able to assist you because all they can do is send the same email you sent requesting the documentation.Wait there is more...... this was all to receive a form via email for you to sign and send back. This must be done for you to have your service canceled.* no manager can help you cancel, the only process is via the email account. You can’t not pick up this form in person.* once you do actually receive the form to fill out you can either send it back through the mail with a recommendation to utilize certified mail or make a request for a cancellation apt to turn your form in person.* the cancellation apt must be made through the same email previously utilized and you then have to wait 72 hours for any response. You are not allowed to call the gym to make this apt.Finally... you get your cancellation apt to then walk in and have someone at the front desk write the time/date and let you know when your last payment will be taken out. You may then take a picture of this document. This apt may only be held at the Crossroads location.

Update 8/02/2021 Ive been going here for about eight months now so its time for an update. Love the classes. The teachers are top notch. The classes are always challenging. I have had a net weight loss of almost 50 pounds. I cannot say enough good things about their programs. Regarding the negative reviews about the cancelation process, I cannot speak to those other than to say they have a couple cancelation options they clearly explained when I signed up.

They are overpriced, provide mediocre customer service and will lock you into an exceedingly strict contract.15 months minimum plus a 60 day cancellation notice. You will be charge 2 more times after cancelling (what?) and the process to cancel is a pain. You will have to send an email to their member services email, wait for a response, and then physically mail the cancellation forms to their locations. They will not accept cancellations handed in over email or in person.

I had a very good experience while I was a member, I decided to cancel due to the COVID restrictions, I would like join the gym again but the burdensome cancellation process makes me hesitant to do it (hence the reason I giving you 4 stars). You should allow your staff to handle cancellations, doing it that way would allow you to talk to the customer directly, understand their concerns, resolve any issues and at the same time learn how you can improve your business. I see several customers giving you a low rating because of your cancellation process.

I had the same experience. The trainers were nice. The gym is adequate. But the cancellation is horrible when they PREFERRED you to send in a form certified mail. In todays electronic age, the emails are all time stamped and time of receipt is logged. But they purposely make you have to do the certified mail, because they recommended it, and if its not certified, they can always say that they did not received it, and you are screwed for another month of fees. I sent my certified but it was such a hassle and I am glad I canceled. Now even if my time is opened up again to join, I probably wont

Lied about in person to person sparring, only available at hours that most working people can’t go to because they are working then; 8am to 6pm and extremely hard to cancel from with absurd fees. If a gym is not up to standard, they should not force people to keep paying like it’s a 2 year phone contract.

I had received several calls after signing up for a challenge they were offering. I had to reschedule twice. John was always so pleasant and accommodating. Never did I feel pressured. John took me on a very informative tour and was very pleased with the facility. I initially only wanted to sign up for challenge since I might move out of state again? But decided to join. Took a short class that day. Intense but well worth it. I am very happy I decided to join. Cant wait to my next visit.

First, in times of financial hardship they require a certified letter to cancel. So not only are their fees absurd for what you get, they make it difficult to cancel. It costs way less in gas to drive the letter over and have someone stamp the date and time of receiving. Secondly, once you request to cancel they still want to charge your account for TWO MORE MONTHS, when it just takes seconds for them to start the draft. Sounds a bit one sided. Plus theyre begging for everyone to spread the word so they get more people to overcharge. Really, you can get far more for less at your local YMCA and YouTube. The Krav Maga classes are disorganized with no sequential building of skills, they have a small weight room, and the classes leave a lot to be desired. I cant tell you how many times I heard the instructors say I just made this move up so we will see if it works. I thought with the crazy costs Id be getting someone skilled, educated, and knowledgeable. Think twice before signing up.

This club is a perfect example of a company stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny. Sales guy was nice, seemed like a good gym. I was pretty excited to start. I was all signed up ready to go, even paid my initial sign on fee.The cancellation policy is a little wonky, but I knew all the details going in, they were not trying to pull any gotchas with it. The last sheet they wanted me to sign had a $49.00 fee on my anniversary date each year. No thanks! I am already paying a monthly fee, I am already in the computer, what is that fee for? It seems to be just me handing them $50.00 bill each year for no reason. So, rather than getting close to $1000.00 in membership dues for the year, and what ever else i would have bought ...gear, PT, drinks, they would rather have this random fee.

Had no problems canceling when I needed to focus on school for awhile. Emailed customer service, got a form and sent it non certified (certified is recommended but mine went through). Great classes and a decent price for a full service gym. Also has evening and Saturday child care for 18 a month, which is helpful. Ive recently rejoined and am happy I did. You can tell that Pete Hardy believes in safety and defense. He even does active shooter trainings for teachers and others in the community.

No matter what I have going on the outside, leaving STW always leaves me feeling uplifted. I’m so thankful for this gym and all the amazing staff members. I’ve made amazing friendships here and I promise you won’t find workouts like it anywhere else. This place is one of a kind. They challenge me and push me to always be my best. Let me start by saying that STW Krav Maga has a very good product, with high quality, well designed workout classes, good facilities (I attend the Blanco site), and very capable instructors with generally an excellent focus on encouraging their students on in a healthy way. Thank you for your hard work to produce such a helpful product, and at a reasonable cost to us.I felt the large number of 1 star reviews did a disservice in representing this company appropriately. I have been through the cancellation process (and am now once again a Member) that seems to be the chief tangible complaint and absolutely agree it is unwieldy. But that doesnt mean the whole company doesnt provide value and to rate it 1 star for one fairly awkwardly implemented policy seems inappropriate and unhelpful for people looking for impactful partners in their health journey. What do we want from a gym? For me its reasonable price, good facilities, and intelligent and capable help in pursuing fitness. STW absolutely has this. Their owners personality to me can sometimes be hard driving and gruff, but Ive personally received encouragement from his style, and also the quality of their instructors has over the 3-4 years Ive been associated with them remained consistently high. This consistent result of their instructor selection and training process says a lot to me, and reinforces my feeling that this is a solid company that makes a difference in their customers lives.I think there can be some work done trying to pursue some more customer-focused flexibility, and I hope they can embrace that need seriously and see what they can do to positively respond to the loud, and I feel unreasonable complaints listed here rather than point to the admittedly clear rules and policies. I want my gym to be a partner in my familys health, and would like to see policies and employee empowerment to focus more on pursuing solutions for its customers and maybe a little less on rigid adherence to policy. You have a good set of employees and maybe it might work to give them a little more power to make your customers experience more well rounded.Overall, I believe this is a very good gym, with uniquely effective classes and great instructors. While my 4 stars is more like a 3.7 or so, with a little investment in embedding more customer solution focus into their processes, this company can easily be a 5 star company.

At STW, Ive learned to defend myself, improved my athleticism, and made tremendous strength and power gains. Im nearing 50, but STW keeps me looking and feeling much younger. The new group training sessions organized by the amazing Tanner are outstanding! Youll have coaches who will push you and help you with form. I have spent years in the fitness industry and have seen every program you can think of, and STW is incomparable. Ive been a member there for multiple years and they consistently provide helpful staff. friendly advisors, and well trained and competent instructors. They have a variety of classes, a cardio theater, and a full open gym, as well as small group and personal training. Not every class or style is for you everyone, I guarantee you no matter who you are you can find something to get out of a membership here, AND they charge LESS than the premium market standard. Self-Defense memberships cost more, but with multiple black belts in Krav Maga, including one of only three 4th Dan Black Belts in the world, Pete Hardy, who is also the owner and an instructor, you get FAR more than your dollar’s worth in Self-Defense. They are the best, and they actually CARE that you learn what you need to be healthy, and defend yourself and loved ones. 10/10/ of you have Fitness or Self-Defense goals, especially if you have both, WALK INSIDE AND LET THEM WOW YOU.

Join this gym ONLY if youre absolutely sure youll NEVER, EVER, EVER want to cancel! The billing and cancelation policies of this place are absolutely nightmarish! I dont like to waste my time writing bad reviews all that often, but this place deserves an exception. Heres what youre about to put yourself through by joining...I had my wallet stolen, and had to change my card numbers, this inadvertently put me one month behind on payment to Krav Maga because they had the old number. But I hadnt been to the gym for awhile, so decided to call and cancel...I was told they wont cancel by phone, and that I have to send an email. So I sent an email. I never heard back. The next month I realized they tried to bill me again and were saying I was 2 months behind and were going to send me to collections.I told them I had canceled. They said I could only cancel by sending in a special printed form, that they wouldnt even send to me until my payment was made in full, including whatever late fees they wanted to charge.I realized at this point that I REALLY needed to leave this place, so I begrudgingly made the payments (which can only be made during business hours Monday-Thursday, and only Friday mornings, and then itll be processed in a batch the NEXT business day). After everything had been processed, I then had to email them on the business day AFTER THAT to request their little special form. They drag all of this out for as long as possible so that youll miss a step or forget to check your email and end up with yet ANOTHER bill for another month...I then had to wait a few days while I guess they debated about whether or not to let me leave, and they finally sent me the form. Then I had to find somewhere to print it out, then fill it out, and include my membership card in the envelope (the instructions conveniently didnt say to do this but I reread my old contract and noticed they would bill me extra if I didnt return my tag.) I also needed to call them (during business hours) so I could ask what the last 4 digits of the payment method was... cause they needed that for some reason. The place I needed to get the form back to was right here in SA, so Ill just drive it over right? NO. I have to go wait in line at the post office and pay $5 to buy the signature confirmation service (otherwise theyll pretend they never got it - as other reviewers here will attest to). At least they admitted this on the form by highly recommending I pay for signature confirmation... I took this as an admission that theyd misplace it if I didnt... Reading the other reviews here I can see that I was right. Then as a one final farewell Thank You, they wont cancel your membership when they get the letter, but only 30 days AFTER they get it, so that they can bill you AGAIN - and hit you with another 50% late fee when the card is declined and you need to give them another card number... But at least you can still go to the gym during this last month right? Nope. You had to send your membership card back to them remember?Youve been warned.

I now know that nutrition has 80% to do with weight loss, and exercise is only 20%. This is where I get my workout on. The personal trainers are extraordinary here, especially Melissa. Melissa is very positive, outgoing, and above all loves what she does for a living. She is a prime example of someone who practices what she preaches. I loved her small personal training classes. She genuinely cared about my personal goals. Melissa pushed me, motivated me, and never gave up on me. She is an amazing trainer, and a great work out instructor.❤️😘💕

I have always hated taking classes at the gym because the workouts never did anything for me, but the classes here are By far the most intense classes Ive ever taken! Ive only been here for about a little less than a month and I alreasy notice results in my body. Taking these classes have helped me build up my stamina a lot! The employees are friendly the members are friendly. You can actually workout in peace at this place with no one to bother you if you decide to just go to the open gym. I love it here!!!

I started working out here about 2 years ago, and automatically loved it. The classes offered were great, different and really helped get me in shape again. The instructors always offered modifications and for someone like me who needs it due to an injured knee it was great. Although the past few months things have changed. The classes have changed. The instructors changed. There are still a few of my favorite instructors there, Richard, Neida, Jessica, Dana, Javi, but Javi doesnt teach classes any more for some reason. I used to take Strictly Strength a lot, but the new instructor doesnt offer a lot of modifications, and shes not really the motivating type. Its more like if you cant do it, get out of my class type of thing. I get it, you want to make it challenging, but not everybody is at your level physically. People with injuries can still work out, but unfortunately are limited. Heck even people who are just starting out need modifications until they can get used to it.

Met with the owner about to weeks ago for a membership sales position. I had also mentioned I was interested in the classes. I couldnt make up my mind and he tapped me on the forehead which I thought was extremely rude. It was a group interview so I was extremely embarassed and in shock I couldnt run out of there because it was raining. How dare he put his nasty hands on me. I could not believe how unprofessional the owner was. I can only imagine how he treats his employees smh. I will workout elsewhere people dont go there obviously he doesnt care about customer service. I was going to recommend friends but after meeting the owner they wont be going there! Stay away from this place the owner seems really unprofessional and controlling in all areas and especially with the membership contracts! Now I understand all the bad reviews and regret going to this place had never experienced such a horrible customer service!

The facility in itself is nice, and the classes are good. But Im very disappointed with the price. It is waaay too expensive, and its basically impossible to cancel the contract. I think its ridiculous not to give your customers an easier way to cancel. We just simply cant afford it anymore, but do they care? Nope. They want us to pay the remainder of our payments in order to cancel. I dont even want to go anymore.

Let me tell you about the gym that changed my life. When I first joined this gym I wondered if it was going to be another one where people let you struggle alone and then you end up with no results and even more of a struggle to get back in the gym. But no, krav became not only my favorite place to work out, but a second home. Instructors like Amanda, Henry, Paige and Mr. Hardy himself became such inspiring, hardcore people who I looked up to, listened to, and got my butt in shape. It makes me sad that I moved up to Boston and away from this place but every time I come back into town I have to get in there whether its every day or a few classes throughout my stay. Id say other gyms need to learn from STW but it takes the heart, care and sincerity of the ppl who work here to have such a gym and experience. Thank you Amanda for telling me about the summer challenge and thank you Haley for signing me up for the challenge so I could come back and see my stw family during my vacation. I cant wait to move back after my program and rejoin my fit fam!If you are still reading this review, I hope youre motivated enough to change your life.

The gym is ok, I mean its a gym. My issue is that the hours of operation are limited and most importantly their cancellation policy is annoying. When your contract expires, you get charged month to month, however, you cant just cancel. You have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get this accomplished. Just feel like they make it difficult to leave and was not a pleasant experience. They are are still hounding me over $100 that I will not pay them out of principle.

There’s so much in the contract that you need to be wary of. If you’re looking for a gym with classes or martial arts, look for a place that’s honest and cares about its members. The classes are ok but they’re so limited on the times available and the amount of people able to join the class, it’s not worth it. The kickboxing class/room is only open to the members who have a martial arts package (much more expensive), and it’s a nightmare to cancel the membership. They don’t advertise that the contract auto-renews itself. I forgot I signed up in June, two years ago, it’s now August and I never received a call/email that my contract will begin to go month to month. They make it so difficult to cancel by forcing you to mail in a letter saying that you would like to cancel and then they’ll wait 30 days to actually cancel you. Don’t lose your key tag because it’s a $10 fee when you cancel. They charge you for every little thing and it’s just frustrating that I even signed up for it.

I have been fitness oriented for over 20 years now and STW is the BEST I have experienced. It is everything I have been looking for in a gym, trainers, and fellow members. I love it so much that I made a list:1) The last person to finish gets the loudest applause and the most high fives2) EVERYONE is very friendly. The seasoned members will help new members if they see them struggling. Its a family.3) The men are very respectful of the women...no staring or pick-up lines here. First gym I have been to where I felt safe and not like a piece of meat on display.4) EVERY workout is challenging. EVERY workout is different. I always leave all of myself on the mat.5) The trainers are helpful, friendly, so encouraging and will push you when you need it.6) We train for a purpose, not just to look good. Because of KM and the conditioning classes, I am stronger and more confident. I no longer feel like I would be helpless if attacked.7) There is a dress code towards modesty. No working out in just your sports bra. No short shorts. No plunging neck lines. No men in homemade tank tops that they cut out of a t-shirt. They emphasize that this is a place to workout, not be on display and distract others.8) I am in the best condition and the most strong I have ever been since starting there.I am addicted and cant stay away. Its changing my life for the better every single day.9) The friends I have made here are more like family...we support each other. Those of you complaining about a contract...its a contract!!! Every gym has one, your cell phone has one, your cable and internet company has one. If you break the contract, there are penalties. I have never had trouble with the payment center. They are always friendly and accommodating when I have a concern.I only wish there were more hours in the day so I could be at STW Krav Maga longer.

Good instructors and classes, but you cant get out of the contract unless you get maimed or move to a different city. The worst of the worst, they only want your money, they dont care about your health issues, you have to finish your contract and send a certified letter to cancel the contract.Worst of the worst. This is the threat they sent me on email. You did sign the contract and initialed the terms as well as the cancellation policies and procedures. We will respond to your review as such. Keep in mind, if you do not send the cancellation letter according to the contract terms the monthly membership charges will continue to be attempted and if the account is delinquent sent to collections.

Absolutely horrible! They have a contract you have to sign, and even when its over they will not let you out of it even though they say they will. I havent been to this gym in about 6 months, talked with the payment service people multiple times, mailed in my cancellation letter, still nothing. $86 this month pulled out for nothing. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!Update:It has been over a year since I left this gym and a Monica from their payment center STILL calls and emails about ANOTHER $86 I owe them for an additional month. I’ve been a member since August, and love it here. I joined to find a way to burn some calories in a way that I enjoy instead of just running on a treadmill…and I’ve found it here. My exposure has mainly been limited to Krav Maga and Cardio Bag classes, and really have found no reason to attend any of the other classes. But it’s nice to know that if I ever get burnt out on these classes (which I can’t imagine happening) there are plenty of other class options to continue to accomplish what I came here for. The classes wouldn’t be as enjoyable without great instructors like Alex. You can’t help but give 100% with her enthusiasm and energy. She is one of the instructors I look for each week when reviewing the schedules. I know that her cardio bag classes will work a variety of areas and are coordinated well with her music choices. Although it seems like a little thing it’s those little things that motivate you to dig a little deeper and push yourself from beginning to end.

Terrible contract, the cancellation process is a bureaucratic wet dream, and a nightmare for the customer. Even if your contract is finished youll continue to be billed each month until you send a physical letter (yes, really) to their payment services office, and it must be 30 days notice or you will still pay for whichever month is encompassed in that 30 day period. They make it impossible for you to break a contract duration however, they randomly increased the price of a regular gym membership and essentially forced me to resign a new contract that had no real benefit while costing me an additional $10/month. Interesting how they have the ability to alter documents when they want to take more from you but are clueless (the sales people directed me to the service hotline multiple times instead of using given technology they had access to) when you request simple information. Also, if youre looking for a place to do a more athletic version of a group Zumba class or pretend to learn how to strike in a cardio bag class this is a great option! (Minus the whole management nightmare.) Most of the day the rooms are filled with middle aged women doing some form of booty boot camp so dont expect to use the mat space very often. Oh, and be careful not to let the staff see you without shoes on the mats, theyll scold you like theyre one of your parents. (I thought this was supposed to be some sort of martial arts gym.)Stay away from STW, you have been warned!

After setting up an appt. on line and meeting with a personal consultant I was eager to give the challange group program a try. The consultant was great and was looking forward to working w/ her. She seemed sincere and gained my trust. She related her personal experiences with me. I liked that she would be there to support me, measure/weigh me and use an app for food & goal tracking during my membership. We set up a trail class and one of two dates to ofically join. Both dates were within one week of that day, our inital meeting. I wanted to discuss the schedule w/ my husband prior to committing. Everything was set. I would officially join on one of the two dates, sign the contract, make payment etc.I came back later that day for my trial class and loved it! It was my first class in a very long time, it was tough but I loved it and was excited to come back for more! After the trial class I was told a manager wanted to meet with me. Heaving, out of breath, dripping with sweat, a little light headed, guzzling water, he started to ask me questions about joining and signing a contract right away. I was confused since everything was worked out w/ the consultant I met earlier that day. Im joining after discussing the schedule & commitment w/ my husband. He started asking questions about where I live/work and commute time. He asked about my husband joining. He asked my goal, I answered to live a healthy lifestyle. That was unacceptable, he asked if I wanted to lose weight, drop a dress size... I tried not to be offended and I repeated, to live a healthy lifestyle. He wanted to hone in to suggest the right classes. Not the right way to go about it, plus his consultant did that w/o being offensive. It felt intrusive since he didnt take the time to get to know me or my needs or why I was there. He wanted me to sign and join right there. Letting me know spots are filling up quickly for the challenge group. I let him know that if that was the case I could join the next one. He seemed uncomfortable, avoided eye contact and asked if I would be more comfortable speaking with the consultant. I told him that she and I had come up with a plan. There was nothing left to discuss.Im not sure if he didnt bother to read the consultants notes which outlined our plan, or if its his job to just close the sale. After looking at the join dates listed, he made a comment about how he was going to be out & the consultant would not start her shift that day until after the class. He stated that she would just HAVE to come in early to cover and sign me up. This made me uncomfortable, It doesnt seem like a nice way to treat your employees and I would feel horrible if she HAD to come in early because of me. In any case he didnt do his homework, didnt bother to get to know me, like the consultant did, to know my needs and he seemed uncomfortable, which made me uncomfortable. I walked out feeling awkward. My consultant followed up with me via text. I asked her to let me know about the next challenge classes, Im passing on this one. I didnt tell her it was because of her manager. Also, every ad regarding the challenge group states its for females only. This is not the case and I continue to see it advertised as such. Based on my personal experience w/ management and how he treats his employees, lack of honework on who hes meeting with, reading negative reviews on the contracts, its doesnt seem like a good fit for me after all. I dont want to financially support a place that doesnt trust, value or treat their employees w/ rspect. It seems like the classes and consultant are EXCATLY what I want but management and contracts seems to be an on going issue. The consultant had me, it was a done deal! Mgmt should have trusted the consultant. Instead HE completely changed my mind. Plus the negative reviews on the contracts are pretty consiconsistent and go back pretty far. Too bad, I was really looking forward to this experience, the classes and getting to work with a personal consultant, the one I met with to be exact! Bummed for sure!!
