After coming here several times, I thought I found an awesome spot where I can enjoy my work out. But after today I’m never coming back to this location! Can’t even buy a water bottle! Both girls couldn’t figure out how to check me out for a water bottle! And they told me i cannot come back to the gym unless i upgraded my membership to a level three, i was asking if i could right away and neither of the girls were able to figure out how to upgrade my membership! How ridiculous is it, going to the same location several times and just the one time I wanted to buy a water bottle and enjoy my workout, now it’s ruined and I’ll be looking for a new gym to enjoy my work outs. Thanks Golds Gym.

Their billing practices are deceiving and they provide false information. Make sure to read every word of the contract because they will charge more than they tell you upfront. Less than helpful when the issue was brought up.

Full clarity: I was once a golds member and now I use active and fit direct through my bank which offers discounted rates for gyms.This place is very clean and well kept. The machines are getting older but are well maintained.Cardio machines are great. Pool is great but gets busy. All the basics. Staff is great.The not so great: not enough squat racks. 3 total and theyre all different types. There is not enough plates for each station. You have to hunt for plates you need. This goes for benches too. They have a central rack which is fine but it will have something like 1-45# 3-25# and thats it. Have to look for 10s extra 45s etc. Each bench should have at least 350 in plates. Each squat rack should have 500 ready to go without looking. You wont get drop sets in because someone will come by and take your plates.Layout is not great either.Overall its worth what I pay through my bank program but not what golds charges as a premium gym in their SA line up.

Been coming here for years. It is a Black Level location so you have to pay more for access even though it is quite dated and not aesthetically pleasing. I enjoy it because since there is a cheaper location 2 miles aways, that is where all the gym rats and douchebros workout instead of here. Would have 5 stars if they add some new equipment/facilities.

Welcome desk with touchless fob checkin. Extra high ceilings in humungous central exercise area. Cardio machines out front. Weights and resistance machines in the back half. Well spaced and grouped to target muscle groups. Sweat towel stations can be found where you exit locker room and shower towels are supplied in the locker rooms. Sanitizer spray bottles and paper towels thruout. Please wipe off equipment after use, guys. Windowed exercise classrooms in the east perimeter. Pool area out back. Comfortable seating area central near locker rooms. Mens locker room clean with plenty of space, benches, and well kept up. Bring your own lock. Individual shower stalls w soap, shampoo and conditioner. Razors, shave cream, deodorant, hair spray, hair gel, hair driers, and combs at sink stations. Steam and sauna, tvs with ESPN on in mens locker room. Suspect the same in womens. Family bathrooms with shower facilities are along hallway to pool area. Staff friendly. Tons of classes. One on one guidance available. Check at desk. Great facility and staff.

It is convenient, well worth the money and even fun! I always look forward to going, if not for the excellent workout with a pretty great view - then for the good company and funny quips Sebastian uses to keep us motivated. I am so glad to finally find a workout that doesnt seem like a chore.

I joined online June 1, 2021. I saw the charges and made the assumption it was a family plan for my husband and I. While reviewing my bank account on June 29, I noted that the price went up 12+ For each of us and that they withdraw the charges on the 25th. I called the gym and was told there was no family plan and that it was prorated to the 25th, that was why it was less for June and that the monthly fee was now 47, not 35. I requested cancellation and was told that the charges would be taken out July 25th and my end of contract was August 25 because I didn’t give 30 days notice, even though my start date was June 1. It was because the contract was prorated to the 25th. Unethical. My husband and I never had contact with the manger or staff except instructors during the month we attended. They never inquired as to understanding, etc. In our call to the manager he talked over me the entire time and couldn’t understand why I was so upset. Unprofessional and very rude. I asked for a printed copy of the contract that indicated it would be prorated to the 25th. He told me he couldn’t do it but was sure it was online. We will not attend this gym or any Gold’s Gym at present or in the future, we are being forced to pay for a service that we will not use.

I’ve been to multiple golds gyms in San Antonio and by far this is the best when it comes to cleanliness, equipment, and other gym members. This gym is always clean, they have more equipment than others and the other gym members actually care about the facility. The gym members actually re-rack their weights and clean up after themselves

I absolutely love the Golds Gym in Alamo Heights! Its very spacious, clean, they have plenty of equipment and the staff is so helpful. Their General Manager is excellent and always available for questions and to encourage you. Ive been a member there for a year now, and Ive never had a bad experience here. Yall keep up the great work!

During covoid I know they didn’t require payments for one month. I completely forgot I changed my card during that month so the bulls added up. However I had informed them that I was not risking it during a national pandemic because I live and take care of my grandma. That I would happily start the contract for the remainder months once the vaccine was available. They could not comprehend the concept for some reason and kept charging me. Now I have multiple places calling me for debt due to them turning it over now they say they can’t do anything.

I have been a member of Gold’s Gym for almost 10 years. I’ve been going mostly to the Austin Hwy/ Alamo Heights gym. Over the past few years the cleanliness and quality of experience has declined rapidly. With the onset of COVID 19 and restrictions, my gym experience continues to decline. The general manager has taken it upon himself to overreach his perceived “power” and enforce masks beyond the scope of state and local mandates and is putting myself and other gym patrons at risk for severe injury by harassing us to have our masks on properly. I understand the mandate and am happy to comply when 6 ft of distance is not possible. However, when I am sprinting on a treadmill and the next closest person is a minimum of 20 ft away, I am well within my boundaries to not have my face covered. I have also noticed he picks and chooses who he nags to comply. I’m hoping he realizes the error of his ways before someone get hurt due to his need for power and to micromanage. Even the new signage with the order printed on it states “where six feet of distance is not feasible.”

I have a been a member for 9 years. The facility has been going down hill steadily for the last 2 years. They have some great trainers, like Anthony Rodriguez, who are the only reason I continue to pay my membership. The mens locker room is poorly kept. There many broken lockers where the locks have been broken off. My biggest complaint is the extremely poor condition of the showers. The plumbing in the shower leaks in every shower stall. The HOT WATER system is frequently broken. I have complained to the GM Randy repeatedly without success. The also have difficulty keeping clean towels stocked.They do display a sign at the front desk No Hot Water. That is not very helpful as it is so often displayed. The front desk help is not very friendly or helpful. I do feel sad for them since they take the brunt of the complaints.I cannot recommend this gym. If you have another option, take it. The organization is not interested in investing in their facility. No interest in replacing the boiler. The attitudes speak for themselves. Save your money.

I canceled my membership in March due to the pandemic I received a email confirming my cancellation March 19 2020. I found out I kept getting charged in May and June. I spoke to Warren Young the manager who confirmed my cancellation and balance to be refunded. Its been two weeks and Im still waiting on a response from golds gym customer service email. Today I reached out again Mr Young advised me I would only be getting a refund for June because it takes 30 days from cancellation for payments to stop, but March 19 through April 19th, is 30 days not March 19 through May 19. Do you see the issue here? This manager laughed at me while on the phone saying he does find it funny that I want to speak to the higher up for a refund. I have children and we are all struggling. Gold gyms is very unprofessional they will ring your phone off the hook for you to join, but when it comes to canceling or customer service once youre already a member it feels like you are avoided as much as possible unless they want to speak to you about getting more money. This is exactly why you can only join by putting a card on file even if you offer to pay cash upfront is to get over on you. Low down, inconsiderate, and don’t give 2 cents about their customers. This how the company runs their business even before the shutdown. This email screen shot from them says keep this for your record last day access April 25th, but yet we’re going to charge you for May. Thank you Golds gym for taking money away from me and my household through the pandemic.The greed is real. Messy! Apply for a membership here if you want your money stolen. Golds gym is a scam. I signed up for a month to month membership a few months ago, but being high risk for COVID I was unable to attend the gym anymore. I have attempted to cancel multiple times but I get the run around every time and my account is still being charged 3 months later. I would not recommend golds gym to anyone.

Having now been to 3 other San Antonio locations on multiple occasions i feel i can make some observations. The Austin Hwy location...Equipment/machines/gear are in good repair and clean. Coming through the door staff are not necc happy to see you but tolerant of your presence. Coming in at 5pm on a Tuesday (yesterday), towels in male locker room are piled up in heaps overflowing hampers and bathroom area smelled like urine with toilets/urinals obviously not been attended to in some time. This is not consistent with the Bandara and Medical Center locations. They also have flaws but they are clean regardless if they have towel service or not and staff are always happy to help you.Again this is purely observational, however after 2 separate workouts at the same time on different days...a trend is a trend. Hopefully the manager will dial their staff in and instill some sense of pride in what they do.

I have a Golds Level membership with Golds already. I went to work out here for the day to see if it was worth the extra $20 a month since this location is much closer to my home & job. The bathrooms are massive, clean and very well equipped with everything you need for a shower. Razors, shampoo, lotion, fancy pH balanced hair spray. There are two pools. One indoor, one outdoor. Those were nice. But that was about the end of what was amazing. The equipment itself offered much less variety than the other Golds Gyms at the Gold levels. There is no smoothie bar, the Pro shop is very minimal. The yoga instructor arrived almost 10 minutes late to her class (serious pet peeve.) I waited for about 30 minutes for the only consultant to come talk to me about upgrading my plan. He did not even come out to acknowledge. The gentlemen at the front desk were as helpful as possible, as they knew I was interested in upgrading to the Black level membership. It was an okay workout for the day. However, I do feel you can get just as much, and possibly more out of your Golds membership at the Gold level instead of shelling out an extra $20 for towels and a pool.

When I walk into the locker room open one locker and look around some Lockers has been brokened in passI can see clearly damage did some lockers.and inter the indoor pool area temperature was over 8o degree.Also water temperature was it 80 degree too....Easily germ can be spreading.I stayed little time.Also they charged double membership fees

They provide me with information on these businesses.For those who speak up regarding service, cleanliness, and interaction with the staff is very valuable to me in making decisions to join or use these businesses.I have gone through All of the Golds Gym locations near to me and a few I would have to drive extra 10 to 15 minutes to access. Many people are saying they dont like the staff, cleanliness, and staffing plus the membership issues..WOW! 😯And what I have noticed most is that the Management nor Corporate of Golds does Not respond or attempt to resolve any of the problems. 🤔Thanks Yelp for helping people like myself in avoiding wasting our money !🙂

The main reason i go is for the kids clubs hours but lately every time i go my kids leave upset and crying with complaints about staff being mean or only paying attention to their children that are there. My child cut himself on the slide and told the staff and asked for a band aid and was told he’ll be fine and refused to give him a band aid even though his skin was broken.Locker rooms could be cleaner, seems they are always out of towels and when they do have them they have a stench to them. It’s an extra $20 for black level but definitely not worth it. Switches to another location.

The gym is newly renovated and it looks much nicer than before. Definitely come check it out and try the classes as well. Theres a wide variety for everyone and classes are a great option for those who dont know where to start in their workouts an dont want to pay for a personal trainer.

The best Golds gym. Its worth the extra $$ to get the platinum level membership. This gym has towel service and a fully stocked bathroom/locker room. The staff is always polite and agreeable. This golds has the best pool and sauna. The only thing wrong with this gym is the lack of HOT TUB!

I’d initially inquired about joining in February, but had concerns about the lack of join incentives and the rep’s inability to work with me (seemed odd based on past experience with gym memberships).I was told the location is a “Black Level” gym. It was explained to me that this rating was based on amenities you’d not find at other Gold’s with cheaper monthly membership fees. Given I’d be paying an extra $20 a month no matter which tier I chose, I thought I’d check their site to see what your other locations offered. I found that every Gold level/$20 a month less location near me had the same, if not more, in terms of amenities.I came back to the rep I’d been working with and showed him what I’d found, and his response was:“The biggest difference is that you have a towel service, where at Gold level you have to pay $10.00 a month for that. The next things are exclusive here. Cycle classes are part of basic membership. We have an outdoor pool which is nice. We have a steam room separate form the sauna. Some clubs have sauna but no Gold level I know has steam rooms. These steam rooms are in each of the dressing rooms, so separate from womens. The kids club is huge and has the McDonalds play scape in it. I think thats the most difference. Oh yeah, we provide shaving cream, mouthwash, floss, lotion, and combs in dressing area. Does that help?”While I won’t disagree that towel service and a steam room are nice amenities, it still doesn’t make sense to market a location at a higher price based on exclusive amenities when it’s limited to one or two exclusive, arguably negligible, features.I still want to join, but its literally nonsense to pay the extra money.

Had a lifetime membership for $19/month. My locker was broken into and wallet was stolen and credit card used. I had police report and staff for proof of this event. My auto draft was that next week and I didnt have card replaced yet. When my payment was declined by bank, they upped my rate because I missed a payment. I have talked to managers of all levels and they say that is just the rules. So I promised them, that I would do my best to let the world know. Ten years later, countless reviews, and not a word back ever. They might seem good because of well trained sales staff, but that is as far as it goes. Go to Planet Fitness, much better all the way around.

This gym is not a bad gym, but it is not black level worthy. It needs to get locks on their lockers, some courts and many other amenities. It definitely needs to step down a level. Now if you want to experience and get your moneys worth at a black level gym. Head to Rogers ranch!

The trainers are super down to earth and friendly; plenty of equipment. There is also a day care center, outdoor pool, and indoor lane pool to utilize. I go there 4-5 times a week and am never disappointed.

Signed up for a membership at the Quarry recently. Was told I could utilize any gym in the city except for the location at Rogers ranch. I walked into the Alamo Heights location today and was told I was misinformed. Which is not a surprise to me because the sales experience at the Quarry location was horrible itself. I was clearly frustrated due to my horrible experience at the Quarry and still the Alamo Heights associated made no effort to provide any customer service to alleviate the present issue. Very minimal customer at best throughout this company. Im not asking to be allowed to utilize the Alamo Heights location all the time but a one time pass for one hour of working out would have been such a great effort on the staffs part. Would not recommend anyone join this gym.

Do not become a member at this gym, worst management and they don’t care about you, one of the managers told me to my face they have thousands of members, its one of the top in the country, which to me it means losing me and my wife is not a big deal to them…….Ask for your contact the same day because if you don’t you will not get it again. Do not EVER give your bank or credit card information because they will never CANCEL your membership even after you ask them to cancel and will keep taking money from your bank account. The managers will lie to your face to get you out the door, when you call tomorrow they never want to talk to you again.What type of company will not allow you to speak to someone from corporate, always send you back to rude managers at their locations? the customer care number on their website will not let you speak to a customer service from headquarters....why? Email coporate, they likely wont reply....why?

I liked the pools and the classes are pretty good. The only thing that really peeved me is that when I originally set up my membership, I was told one price, but ended up being charged three times more than I was told. If they had been honest with me, I wouldnt have gone here because its too expensive for what I was looking for. I just feel like this gym is dishonest and apparently several people have had problems with their billing as well.

Super Gym, friendly Staff, Always comfortable and well stocked with towels etc. One thing that needs correcting is the signage. The signs state no gym bags allowed on the exercise floor. Once I viewed a customer being asked by an associate to remove the bag, but only that once. Normally a dozen or so gym bags are throughout the gym. Either change the signs to allow bags or enforce the rule, otherwise customers are confused.

This is by far my favorite Golds Gym. The staff keeps this gum running smooth they may not worship the ground I walk on when I check in (being sarcastic due to other reviews) but they work hard to make sure towels are clean and stocked, changing rooms are clean, equipment is working etc. The gym is huge lots of options, a ladies only area, kids club, huge pool, outdoor pool, and many classes.

We cancelled our membership with Golds Austin Hwy in April when we transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado. We have continued to be charged every month since then. We have spoken to multiple people at Golds who say its taken care of, dont worry yet we continue to be charged. The management is unresponsive. We have had to resort to disputing the charges with our credit card company and having them block further transactions from Golds.Im not one to leave poor reviews but the customer service and management here do not take care of their patrons. Avoid this gym if you can.

I was a little bombed when I couldnt hire the assistance of a professional trainer, so I started to try the classes and I saw results since first week!!! Congrats to the excellent instructors!!! Gym is ok BUT GYM MEMBERS STEAL YOUR STUFF! They don’t even turn it in! This has happened twice! Left my airpods charger on a machine (just the charger not the Airpods) and came back like 20min later and it was gone! THEN I left my blue hydro with a bunch of markings and stickers by a machine (I forgot I left it there) took a shower went back to the machine, and it was gone. It was never turned in the lost and found and I have went back multiple times to see if someone turned it in, nope! Be advised that the people who go here are not honest and don’t have the decency to at least turn items found into the lost and found!

I went in to cancel and was told my cancelation would take 30 days to process....of course they would charge me those 30 days, in addition to the month I prepaid when I signed up so.... Id end up giving them two months worth of additional membership dues from the day I asked to cancel. Word of advice, make sure your crystal ball can see two months into the future when thinking about canceling, or just go to a less greedy gym. On a more positive note, the gym was very good when it was Spectrum.

The gym is nice and usually there are not that many people using the racks but sometimes you run into an issue of having to wait because there is one power rack and 2 other racks that have no pull-up hangover (ones you can squat in). My Issue lies with the gyms locker room. Please, for the love of god buy some new towels. I almost threw up this morning breathing in the man toxins off the discolored off-white towels. The rest of the locker room is an issue too because the ground is just nasty. There is brownish water and the steam room usually smells like sh*t because it probably isnt cleaned often. The gym also has a little bit of an overarching body odor smell when you walk in but you get used to it.Usually I am not keen on writing public reviews but I really want management to do something about the locker room.

This location is awesome. Lelani the Zumba instructor is the best Golds has. Her classes fill up very fast and I have lost lots of weight in 4.50 months I have been doing them. However, I think the personal trainers could be more helpful in assisting us as they seem only focused on members who buy the personal service. Not good, but the gym is great. The locker room attendants are great at what they do; clean locker rooms, enough towels, soaps, etc.

Incompetent management. Original sales rep that worked here messed up our account, he even admitted it, but he nor management is willing to fix the problem. I’ve literally talked to all kinds of managers and supervisors and no one wants to make it right. We had a family plan and suddenly my wife can’t use the Gold gyms. All is well until they mess up your account. Apparently, “they don’t have the authority to fix it.” -manager here said it has to be corporate. Really? You all messed up. Fix it!!

Terrible customer service and communication. It seems like nobody knows how to communicate with various members of the staff and that misinformation is passed on to the patrons. Sometimes this results in minor miscommunications, however in our case it resulted in my partner being charged month after month even though we did everything we were told to do to cancel. PS Monica at the front desk was extremely brash and derogatory; Im not sure how anyone like that could work in a customer-facing aspect of business. Ive never been spoken to so rudely over the phone in my life.

My gym membership is over, I personally went in to make sure no payment would be taken from my account, yet more than one fraudulent payment has been taken. I would NOT recommend a membership be made unless you can pay monthly with cash. I contacted this place more than once yet fraudulent payments are being made, although my gym entry card was turned into the establishment.BEWARE

*****DONT GO HERE***** WARNING*******They are the most terrible company to sign up with. I was lied to on day one after I signed up for service. I prepaid for all of my service and signed a cancelation form the same day so I wouldn’t get any further charges. And yet I’m still getting charged.I was audited by the manager and assistant manager that I would get a refund in 5-7 days. It’s been a month and I’m still getting charged and no refund.I called to check on it and was told a manager would call me back. 24 hours later no call. So I call to check on my call back. And I’m sent back to a running phone. Then the receptionist tells me I’m being rude and hangs up on me.Idk why it’s so hard to cancel. I did my part of filling everything out. Can I just get my money back? I haven’t been there in months.

TERRIBLE, This gym is going down fast. Locker rooms a mess from over night, water shooting out of tile in showers and Wi-Fi works when they want it too. Personal Trainers are leaving this gym which should tell us something, definitely not something to expect from this area of town. Manager needs to seriously look at processes and systems to improve this place!

I have been going to this gym for 5 weeks. And in those 5 weeks, the womens workout area has not been cleaned. There is dirt and trash on the flooring, machines are not cleaned and there are never any towels available. I spoke with the fitness manager and the gym manager who both assured me the area would be cleaned. That was a week ago and the same dirt is still around. Including a wad of hair by the treadmill I use which is disgusting to see.This place is poorly run and management does not make an effort to correct the issues or even look at them and definitely does not follow up. Do not go to this gym if you dont have to - use the one at the quarry its much cleaner.

Not military friendly... some staff that work front desk are rude. The towels were rarely stocked. I have asked what separates this gym from the lower tier golds, I was told the towels what a joke. Watch your billing statements as well I had cancelled my account with golds in person. With a confirmation number somehow my account went into collections. Also when I spoke to the General Manager he said he would inquire about this situation and call me back this never happened. My wife went to go see him in person and he completely brushed her off. Overall worst experience possible with golds of austin highway.

DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP FROM GOLDS GYM!!! I gave them my 30 day notice (as per their month-to-month contract) told them I am moving to Albuquerque, NM which does not have a Golds Gym there, & received a copy of the cancellation and a confirmation from Golds Gym that my last bill date would be 10/20/17 - even though I paid a month in advance (what a scam) they still make you pay for your last 30 days even though they tell you when you sign up that the month in advance will be applied to your 30 days (NOT the case). They continued to bill my credit card every 2 weeks since. I went into the gym and spoke with Billy Faris who assured me he would contact their corporate office to stop the billing but he also assured me I would be refunded what they illegally charged me!! BILLY FARIS - did NOT do his job, did NOT keep his word and I continually get my credit card dinged for a membership I cancelled per their requirements! GOLDS GYM is a rip off - youre better to go somewhere else where they have a Corporate Office that will actually cancel your membership when they say they will.

The sales rep in the gym was so pushy and NEVER explained the contract to me. I was rushed to sign (he kept saying I wasnt serious about my goals, and for me to just do it) and when I came in to try to end my 30 day trial, I was told by the front desk several times that a manager wasnt available to process my cancellation. I moved 6 months into my year contract and wasnt able to cancel so Ive been paying each month with assumption that my contract would end after a year. Wrong. They continued to charge me monthly (with no call or email about it) and when Ive called the local gym and corporate, I spoke to very rude and inconsiderate reps on the phone. Never ever setting foot in a Golds Gym again.

This gym doesnt have much equipment to choose from and there arent enough 45 lb plates. I literally had to scour the entire floor for plates just to do leg press. Gym equipment is sub par for a black level Golds.
