Great outdoors surround this facility. Homeschool friendly classes available throughout the week. Facility is a bit older and locker rooms/showers are dated. Classes as well as gym equipment available. Daycare & activities are amazing. Youth & children love attending and getting P.E. and Art classes on Fridays from 10 a.m. to Noon. Child care facility is attractive and fun! There is an outdoor pool available. The indoor Rock Wall needs some TLC, but looks to be a great attraction. Staff is great at this location, thanks!

The YMCA continuing to require mask use is wonderful news and I am grateful for the decision to keep them safe spaces for everyone. I just recently was finally comfortable coming back after they added the requirement for children two years and up to wear masks. I missed my workouts so much and as a working single parent of a young child with no family here I depend on child watch. I appreciate all of the wonderful YMCA staff and I’m relieved that they will continue to require masks to be worn at their facilities. That aside, I’ve been a member for about three years now and the YMCA is hands down the best gym for me. I know my son is well cared for during his time in child watch and he enjoys going. Add to that swim lessons, youth sports, parents night out, a safe trick or treat experience during this pandemic, and many more family events. The gym has all that I need and even advanced equipment like the Air Runner that I love. I’m mainly here for the free weights and barbells, but I appreciate the variety of equipment and group classes for anyone. The facility has always been very clean, and since reopening in the pandemic there are many additional well-supplied cleaning stations throughout as well as safety protocols. Great job and thank you!

Love our local YMCA! Super clean, set in a beautiful park, super friendly staff, and AWESOME child watch program! I love the feeling of total relaxation while exercising knowing that my baby is in good hands. My daughter has also done several of the Winter and Spring sports, always a great experience. Cant wait until COVID skedaddles so the Parents Night Out can make a come back, that was also a fantastic perk to being a member!

Great Zumba/dance classes with Theresa (Monday), Robyn (Wednesday) and Amber (Friday). A variety of music and all three instructors show modifications for different fitness levels. I feel safe with the distancing and always check the YMCA app for the total number of participants signed up for the class before I go. So far, I have felt safe since the class sizes have not been too large.

Clean, well-kept facility. I am relieved they are continuing to encourage members to wear masks and are taking an active part in reducing the spread of COVID. Cardio machines are spaced apart to help with distancing efforts. My kids love going to the child watch, I can workout with peace of mind knowing my kids are well cared for. You can see staff actively cleaning machines, equipment, restrooms, and child watch area throughout the day.

The summer programs for my 4 year old have been fantastic and given some structure to her summer. Swim lessons were convenient and she loved going and being challenged to try new things simply by other kids in her class doing tasks she may have been reluctant to do on her own. The staff was responsive to my questions and concerns about where she was initially placed due to her age, and she was able to move to the next group which was much more engaging for her. She has also participated in Spanish Explorers, Tiny Tumblers and Tiny Tinkers. She enjoys the teachers and the friends she has made in each class.

Friendly and helpful staff. Weve been involved off and on for a number of years as members, in swim lessons, and most recently, in soccer. The child care center is well-organized, and my kids loved it when they were young. Thinking about soccer, I love the parents pledge before the games. Its a great reminder to focus on sportsmanship and learning how to play the game, rather than focusing on competition and winning. I love that the other teams coach from our last game cheered for our teams goals as well as for his team. Great learning environment.

The send weekly communication through email to tell you what to except for the week and games cancellations due to weather. Nice, well maintained YMCA with a lot of features. Their child watch is great when you want to work out and need a place for the kids to hang out. Everything they have there is intuitive and easy to use. Sometimes the special programs can be confusing because they, on occasion, change dates and times without updating it on their flyers or on their website. Also, there are so many things going on on any given day that the staff is sometimes a bit vague or confused about where and what is going on when. I have had the experience of being walked all over the park in search of a day camp, but we eventually find where we need to be. Other than that, its a great facility and the staff are always friendly.

I had found this gym convenient for me during 3 years, the place and machines are clean and new, the staff is kind and friendly. Unfortunately, the situation is not the same now that my baby joined the babycare area. I am afraid the staff might not be the proper to look after babies as young as mine (6 months when he started attending and 8 currently). I understand that it is difficult to look after such young babies but they are missing basic things like dipper changing, one of them even ask me how long does the milk lasts after prepared or being touched by saliva. He was getting used to the place during the first month,I had to go back to the room to comfort him while training but he is doing well now. However, the last time after 15 min of training someone texted me to go back to the room to comfort him, I saw the text 15 min later since I was busy on the treadmill. When I went into the room my baby was sobbing while sleeping. They told me that he was crying because many other where crying, and he cried during all that time. After saying that, my baby burped hard and threw up because of the long time he cried and swallowed air. On top of everything he had a full dirty diaper. I talked to the staff and manager this evening after I found a single girl looking after two crying babies and another one, the system wasnt working on her room and she asked me to go to another one to check in while a could leave my baby there because she couldnt leave the room I preferred to wait for someone else, there wasnt a way that she could manage look after the four of them. I was told that they were going to work on the situation. Finally, before my baby joined the gym a member of the team told me that the toys are sanitized every time a child leaves the room and I found out that the room is cleaned twice per day only, definitely the room needs new toys, they look old and dirty.I started to feel that I might be waisting my money because my baby is not having a good time and I am interrupting my training after 20 minutes of having started, I think the area needs more people to assist the kids and better prepared for simple tasks.

There has been changes to YMCA that prompt me to give this location 3 out of 5 star rating. Staff improved but much needed improvements needed in order for me to give a 5 or even a 4. They did made improvement on the cardio equipment, but they are limited on the amount of weight machine they have. For the free weights area, space is limited. Good luck working out between 6 pm to 7 pm.

Ju
Review №55

Recent overcrowding in the Senior/Silver Sneakers classes are causing unsafe conditions. I would no longer recommend the Wednesday class. The last Wednesday weight class I attended was so overcrowded there was not room for full range of motion. Again. So far since a large group suddenly came into the class a couple of months ago no solution has been attempted. I pulled a muscle in my side due to the inability to achieve full range of motion caused by one young woman who refused to make certain those on both sides of her had space to move and in fact said she didn’t care if someone got hurt. I reported it, they say they talked with her but who wants this kind of hassle when you just came to work out? I have worked out my entire life and haven’t seen this disregard for safety in group classes before. This is twice at two different SA YMCAs I have experienced a younger person coming into a senior class and behaving as though the seniors didn’t belong there and injury to one senior from being pushed into a wall but was too embarrassed to admit or report it. So far I have not heard safety guidelines being reinforced during group classes. This organization can’t claim to be “ensuring that everyone has the chance to learn, grow and thrive regardless of age” or the values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and not include the Seniors in the community. Those of any age should be welcome in any class unless those attending are attending with the attitude that the seniors in their community should get out of their way if their class time is more convenient for them or are obligated to accept unacceptable behavior that causes further hazards to over crowded classes.I work out at a higher level than some because of a lifetime of activity however I was taught long ago to respect the safety of myself and others by ensuring adequate space between myself and others and being aware of hazards. In this class I have wiped up spilled water off the floor, had to tell someone standing barely a foot away that she needs at least an arms length for safety as different people have different work out speeds and picked up wet plants tracked in by others so they do not slip and fall. So be aware that when working out at a San Antonio YMCAs you are responsible for your own safety, guidelines are not being taught and reinforced for the group workouts and be ready to have a back up plan for showing up to a group workout that is so over crowded you may be at risk.Be aware that if you are fortunate enough to be working out at a higher level you are responsible for watching that you maintain a safe distance and watch for those who may not feel safe in working out next you. It won’t hurt you to locate to a place on the floor where you won’t feel restricted and they won’t fear being knocked over or thrown off balance. There is always another class at another location. The good thing I can say is that I noticed some of our older members came back after this was reported and the director did seem to respond with action. That does not change the fact that if you are a senior you should look up safety guidelines for group workouts before you start your class so you are aware of when you need to take action and when the actions of others need to be addressed or reported. Be aware that while working out with friends is social time it is not a social event. Holding up the class by standing around chatting instead of listening to the instructor and getting to know others in the class is healthier for you. Taking up class time and being unaware that you are delaying the class while you discuss your lunch plans will keep you from getting to know others, create hard feelings & keep others from wanting to know you. When people new to working out in groups come unaware of safety guidelines they are a hazard to themselves and others. Be a part of the solution.

Than close for camp swimming etc. There is only very few hours where you can actually swim. So if you are not off work between 1pm and 3 pm you are out of luck. I pay to much to not even be able to use the pool. Swimming lessons for kids is great. But they do not have to be every single morning. I will be leaving this Y.

On the weekends there are many activities and very few places to park Ive included a picture of a tree that is taken 3 parking spaces! I see you guys hire teenagers so cheap labor is a must for this racket. So my complaints are cut and trim back trees and anything else blocking parking spaces. The restrictions toilet has know seats or toilet paper. And I dont even want to speak of the restroom filth no paper etc. Go ahead and leave the cheap labor and non of this stuff gets fixed.
