Great neighborhood climbing gym. Good variety. Two auto belays. Nice set of free weights and a large upstairs conditioning area. Nice friendly staff.
Always a fun time rock climbing. Everyone is super nice and does a great job with explaining the belay process! If youre a student, dont forget to bring your student id to get 10% off!
Fun place to challenge yourself. Great place to burn off some energy.
I got a membership here and you have to go often to get your moneys worth, but its really fun. I love a good challenge and cheering in friends here is always a fun bonding experience
Its members only right now and you have to make a reservation but you can join at anytime! Its so much fun! You can bring a climbing buddy or climb by yourself. Plenty of climbing options for either to still get that workout in :)
Great place. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Ive made many friends over the past few years of going to VH.
Friendly staff, stuff to do for all ages and experience. My friend used a guest pass on me for a month and I got hooked on climbing and now Im a member. Thanks Vertical Hold for the great exposure to climbing.
Vertical Hold has three separate gyms that membership gets you access too. This one is my favorite. The staff is very chill, there is plenty of top roping lead climbing, and bouldering. There is also plenty of parking. If you are looking to learn or to improve your skills, this is a great gym in the area to try out.
VH is a great climbing gym with awesome friendly &knowledgeable staff. It does get crowded from time to time, the downtown location is crowded quite often tho. Its a little pricey, but you could replace your regular gym membership with VH. Basic weights/showers would leave a lot to be desired compared to a regular non-climbing gym, but at lest the Poway location has this, downtown doesnt. No pets anymore, sorry. Love this place, do it🤙
Fantastic spot. This location has more variety in climbing and bouldering walls than the Old Town/San Diego location. I liked the additional exercise equipment as well. I live that vertical hold allows me to use any of their gyms with my monthly membership.
The best climbing vibe around! Positive encouragement from other climbers is the norm. All the Staff are super knowledgeable and approachable plus exceedingly professional. Quality of the routes are very interesting set by local rock heroes
Its a nice climbing gym, but they make you wear a mask
As an obvious first time customer (with my 4year old), I would have liked for an employee to spend a few more minutes showing us the ropes, pun intended. The only recognizable employee I saw was behind the front counter, so I understand she couldnt because she had to help other customers pay and get rental equipment etc.but if there was another employee around I think they could have spent a few more minutes with us, try to upsell a private lesson or a membership or something?Besides that very small critique nothing absolutely amazing or totally disappointing about the place. What I would expect from Rock climbing gym. Also would be nice if they had a few more Auto belay/Auto descend machines. There was only two that I saw which meant those are the only two places I could climb because my child couldnt be my spotter.
Vertical hold has an amazing set up as you have a full-fledged weight room as well asgrip and climbing training center on the second floor. Theres plenty of climbs you can do with varying degrees of intensity and plenty of space for bouldering. It is really one of the premier climbing spots I have been to. relatively easy chicken and quality climbing gear whether youre going by yourself or with some friends it is a great experience over all the facility is cared for sanitary and visually appealing.
Super cool! Awesome and chill staff. Great spot for a one time experience and to train. I totally recommend going here.
Great service and climbing routes! Rental gear is okay, not the best but the place is great!
This place was amazing. Very inexpensive for the various climbs you can make. Very easy to learn and go on your own with a partner or not. I highly recommend this place. Best kept secrets in price vs. Product. All day passes are cheap. Great workout.
Short walls. Lots of kids. Wouldn’t want to make it my home gym but it has a chill vibe among the staff. Belay year was easy if you already know how. They’re not there to be super in your face about it.
My favorite location of the three Vertical Holds. Never too busy and the staff are great. Parking is much easier than the downtown location and the spacious interior allows for much more climbing time. Bouldering is spread out enough as well and gives multiple options for any skill level. Also has a great hangboard, pegboard, and campus board setup.
Awesome gym. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Justin handles everything needed quickly and efficiently. Hes also great for pro tips on any climbing challenge you are facing. This is my weekend gym since its a bit further from home but glad to have options as a member.
The staff has been really helpful and laid back. The other climbers I’ve talked to there were friendly and encouraging. My son and I are new to it and haven’t felt uncomfortable or unsafe at all.
The staff did a great job of explaining belaying to me (Ive only ever bouldered.) Decent prices and comfortable environment, but lots of kids!
Its fun place to go. My kid loves it. We come 2 times a week. Become a member is good because we can go to climb all 3 locations for one price.
We just had my sons 7th birthday at Vertical Hold. The kids and adults had a great time. The kids (and adults) get to burn of some energy, challenge themselves and have a blast in a casual/mellow environment. Staff was awesome. Ive already gotten several compliments on what a great location and idea for a birthday party.
Fun!
Kinda dirty feeling. A lot of the ropes are pre-tied with strange knots and zip ties. Ground is gravel, so if you like taking your shoes off while belaying it takes some getting used to.
Fun for kids and adults. Has both ball and Boulder stations, with a small gym area. You can rent everything you need at the counter and the staff is super friendly.
Id give them a one star or less. My husband joined today they were very nice until when he went up later in the evening to climb they told him no! They are closed for the week for tournaments? My question is why wouldnt you tell us this when joining. No help or guidance either when he got up there. Just do whatever. Really? This place sucked! They just take your money and lie!
I love this place - I come here every now and then with friends. The equipment is in good condition and the wall courses are laid out very legibly. Fun for amateurs and experts.
This is a good gym. It has a small workout area, solid bouldering zone, and lots of sport and TR routes. New routes set every couple weeks and they have 2 auto-belay that also rotate around the gym.
Good gym. The staff is helpful. Call ahead to make sure there isnt a large group coming in.
Been a second home for a long time, love all the staff here. Vinny and Justin are the best peeps in the house. Only bad experience I had was that one time they ran out of mint yerbamate.
Super fun, although, unfortunately, there isnt much that you can do alone. Great exercise. I was sore and drenched in sweat within an hour.
I love this place! The staff are super friendly and helpful, great atmosphere, everyone climbing is helpful and friendly.
Vertical hold is the best indoor rock climbing place Ive gone too. The people are so friendly and helpful plus there are all levels if climbs so you can always find what youre looking for.
Usually climb at the gym on Hancock st. (2074 Hancock St. ) but this is a great location as well, wonderful staff and amazing routes.
Awesome place to rock climb and they have crack! If youve never done crack you need to try it out. Super fun place for belaying rock climbing or bouldering.
Climbing here is great and the staff is helpful and friendly. My 13 year old has enjoyed his time there alot.
Awesome walls, verticals included, friendly and helpful staff. Plenty if room and routes for various skill levels
I love this gym, their prices are so much more reasonable than any other climbing gym in the area. Ive been a member for a couple of months and feel great after every time I go.
Great routes. Great people. Great gym. Climbers of any skill level will love this place. Highly recommend.
Most of the bouldering is tilted back, or in the cave, making it a difficult place to climb. However, that doesnt necessarily mean bad, but it did seem like a tough place for beginners.
Great place to exercise. Relax and great staff
Professional and helpful staff, great climbing walls with design updated every month. Great place.
Very relaxed atmosphere, and great customer service. A great gym for beginning climbers, like us
Not your stereotypical climbing gym. Havent run into any condescending staff. They do their due diligence but I never feel talked down to.
My son had a great experience at this location. We have to return soon!
Super nice staff. The rock flooring made me feel uneasy and the pads were old and torn up. The routesetting was subpar. It was good for vb-v3 after that it seemed very dynamic including dynos to finish. There was a lack of technical boulders. Top ropes looked nice but I didnt climb any.
Helpful and friendly for people who dont know what they are doing.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff will get you started if youve never climbed. Excellent location to hone your skills if youre more experienced.
I like how they work with Girl Scouts and other groups, great place!
Affordable prices, especially, for college students, great partner workout, and friendly employees.
Solid Rock Gym is great for what you make of it. Poway is the largest of their 3 remaining gyms, tallest, most space, but again if your a serious climber you can get over run by screaming kids and birthday parties. Climb in the evenings during the weekdays. Poway has a nice weight area and showers. I used to work for SRG as a routesetter and actually miss climbing there and the people. Great for all ages and skill levels. If you really want to use muscles you never knew you had, go climb inside with a partner and dont get discouraged cuz its nothing like you think it will be. The staff is generally helpful and are often found hanging around on the walls when its slow.
Fun for the kids and even some adults
Been a member for years. This place rules
Awesome place to take family
This is the mid-sized location of the three Solid Rock Gyms. Featuring a fitness and weight area along with many different walls to climb. Lead climbing area is small but there are a couple bouldering areas.
Staff is friendly. Bouldering routes are challenging and unique!
This is the worst gym I have visit in U.S.No bouldering pad. The grade is absurd. Not recommended for all.
A fun way to increase your strength
Great routes and lots of different problems
This place rocks!
Favorite gym in San Diego
Excellent climbing gym
Great service!
This place rocks😳😝
Was here for a girls scouts event
