Great gym! Will miss training here. Praying for normal times where everyone is welcome again, not just those wanting the vaccine.
This is a beautiful, clean and well equipped gym. They offer a wide array of classes which are easy to take advantage of through online booking. All the instructors have been very nice and helpful and it’s never too crowded. Overall, it’s a great gym.
Treat your employees better. It’s a shame having to witness management treat them like that.
A very modern facility with extremely friendly staff. The sanitizing and cleanliness is impeccable. Great selection of workout equipment and workout classes. The shakes are also amazing at the juice bar. The value is great if you’re able to complete their “tour of the city.” Highly recommend for the Fishtown area!
While I commend City Fitness for having multiple, conveniently located gyms in the city, I was definitely underwhelmed by my visit here. The equipment was cramped close together. Even spread between multiple levels, it didnt seem like a fantastic place to have classes and members trying to work out at the same time. The sauna, a lovely amenity to have, was also cramped and could not have fit more than 2-3 people at a time. For the price this gym is charging, you would think they would put more thought into the experience of their members--- I wasnt even given a tour.
Getting extremely frustrated with this gym. I have been a member for years and even kept my membership paid and current for the multiple months they were closed due to the pandemic. I understand COVID restrictions and limitations on capacity. I understand safety protocols. But their reservation system is a mess. It’s been down frequently and very difficult to get a reservation at all. I’m paying a pretty expensive membership bi-weekly and have to fight The Hunger Games to get a reservation that is NOT at 5am or just to get into one of their Studio Classes. 5 am does NOT work for me everyday and weekends are just outright impossible. It honestly has me not just considering but actively searching for a different gym where I can actually work towards my fitness goals consistently and not have to ‘clock-in’ daily for what seems like a second job to secure a time/reservation within 25 hours before my designated workout. The only thing that is certain about this gym is that they are like clock work when deducting your bi-weekly fees and are super quick to charge you a $5 missed reservation fee if you miss a workout. All in all without a resolution by the end of April I am canceling. I too have fitness goals and fighting with my gym app to get a reservation is NOT on my list of things to do in 2021. If anyone has any gym recommendations for $80 a month or less with actual accessibility please drop the info below. Thanks!
Really not a nice gym. I thought it was way too expensive for the quality of equipment which was all old. No spa or steam room. The staff was unfriendly and rude. I did an introductory meeting with the sales reps they have, he went to the bathroom and after waiting 15 minutes I asked a guy at the front counter if there was someone else who could help me and he scoffed and ignored me. After touring the gym and completing a workout I decided not to join. I don’t know if all the locations are like this but the fishtown location really was disappointing.
Great management. Clean facility with tons of natural light. Comfortable layout and great smoothies. Jack (a manager there) is the man!
Terrible gym. Overrated. Obnoxiously rude staff, pretty much what you would expect from unprofessional arrogant Fishtown yuppies. Canceled my membership on 8/11 when they decided to change their policy to vaccinated only members being allowed inside. Today I received an email that they will keep billing me until 9/16, even though I’m not allowed now to access the gym. Hilarious. Switched my payment information to a debit card for an account I don’t use and locked it. It is a scam gym that has fraudulent billing practices. How can you charge me for a service I can’t use? I already opened a membership at planet fitness for the time being seeing as how they have THE EXACT SAME EQUIPMENT. If you’re looking for an upscale gym, this IS NOT IT. It is a glorified planet fitness. Go to Fitler club in the city or just don’t move to fishtown at all because everyone that lives here is smelly trash anyway.
City Fitness Fishtown is the best gym in Philadelphia! The facility is gorgeous, there is tons of space and equipment and the staff is incredibly kind and helpful. There are cheaper options around the city but if you are seeking quality and community - City Fit Fishtown cannot be beat.
Predatory billing practices. DO NOT JOIN! They tell you one price and then when they start billing you it’s way higher. They do not make canceling your account easy. They take a month to reply to the cancelation request and then billed me over $400. Listen to the bad reviews here and on Facebook and the fishtown group pages. Horrible gym, the people who work here are not good people.
The facility is very clean! They have tons of equipment to use and the enviorment is very friendly. Definately worth checking out.
City Fitness in Fishtown is a dope location to workout. It is never too crowded, equipment is up to date and easy to use and they have a variety of classes to take to meet your fitness needs.
City Fitness was great before the pandemic and has adjusted even better than most places. You can efficiently schedule gym appointments and classes in addition to THRIVE appointments.Thrive is an additional service that is a cross between personal training and HIIT circuit work that focuses on core and technique. I figure, Im in just as good if not better than many professional athletes and I still started attending and continue to enjoy.Back the CF, last spring and summer they had outdoor gym sessions, which will return soon. My only question was why they didnt have outdoor gym option pre pandemic? Also they have massage chairs, sauna, and showers. Several rooms to find what YOU need. Yes I would recommend CF to any adult that wants to workout.
Ive been going to City Fitness for about 5 years at different locations in Philly. All the gyms are great! Clean, professional and up to date equipment. Staff is friendly and efficient!
Amazing location and layout!!! The staff here is great and so are the instructors. I did a WeFit class and the instructor was encouraging and helpful. It is so pleasant coming here! I tried the hydro massage, it was okay, it wasnt bad but it wasnt great. Kind of felt like a waste of 10 minutes, its relaxing but definitely not a real massage. The only downside is that every fellow gym go-er Ive encountered has been super rude. Especially when I try to have a friendly interaction. But other than that it is a great place.
I was a member of CityFitness for 3 years prior to covid. I canceled my membership after the 2nd covid 19 shutdown. I just recently signed back up and I’m afraid that the gym is not the same. A lot of broken machines cramped together and really crowded.
Incredibly disappointing that I have to write this review.Like many, the pandemic prevented me from going to the gym. At the start of the pandemic, City Fitness gave you the option of cancelling your membership or you could leave it open to help support the business. I left mine open for an additional month even though we couldnt use the facility due to Covid restrictions.Ultimately, I cancelled the membership as I was unable to go to the gym. I communicated this multiple times via e-mail and was told that I HAD to come into the facility to cancel. As I am immunocompromised and was unvaccinated, I did not do so and again explained that I was cancelling via e-mail.I received a call today from a debt collector for which City Fitness engaged. Is this how City Fitness treats people?Beware of what youre getting into here.
They steal our money. The owner is bad person
Crazy how even when I froze my account, they still charge me monthly. We’re in a pandemic, they were closed for most of the year and they have the audacity to send a debt collector for 400$. Unprofessional gym, attacking people during these times is disgusting, you just lost a loyal member of over 2 years. I will be letting everybody know about this.
I have been a member for SEVEN YEARS and they refused to give me a refund on a two week charge for less than $40. They are thiefs and money hungry - they dont care about people, they care about their wallets.
Ive been coming to city fitness since 08 although they are constantly changing Ive always loved this place, because if the cleanliness. I cant say much about pricing because Im grandfathered in to the price i started paying over 10 years ago. They are constantly changing their equipment which is good because not many machines need repairs. but to take away is when they first open up it was a gym now its definitelya fitness center which means they took away some of the heavier dumbbells and benches. Which is kind of a bummer but overall a wonderful place to work out.
Good luck with an appointment 70 a month for a gym i cant use. Also difficult to cancel.
There are too many complaints to name. First you think it’s the only quality gym in Philly so you go for it. But then shortly after a few months you realize the poor class offerings, zero care for true hospitality and no effort to get to know their members. Then during Covid they barely offered communication with their members, hardly any classes and did not attempt to lead with positive action. Then when they opened their outdoor gym area they demanded that we bring water, had zero water offering like free or even for purchase. It’s hard enough to workout during the pandemic and they made it more difficult. If a member is without what they need to workout then the gym should supply it or at least make it available to purchase. I know the owner and have done work for them - that’s where I had the breakthrough about the entire brand culture - he treats people as if they are dispensable. Rude, dismissive, egotistical. It’s classic old school gym owner behavior and it’s about time the masses showed him that he’s not cool anymore and neither are his gyms. Period. To make it all complete I cancelled in September and yet I’m still getting billed! Total poor management, leadership and follow thru.
Clean, open and good assortment of equipment
Just want to give any members a heads up, that even if you freeze your membership, they will still come after you for an annual membership fee during COVID shutdowns.I reached out and asked to be refunded the fee and they refused and cited that The annual fee goes towards facility upgrades and entitles you to a free session with one of our certified trainers.A few issues. One, charging an annual membership fee when the gym hasnt been open for a lot of it (and cant use the actual facility) seems really off - ESPECIALLY during a time when people are struggling to make ends meet. Also, the way the rep worded their reasoning is sort of insulting because they are trying to differentiate their different income streams for different uses. No. You generate income, it all goes to where the business sees fit. Dont give me b.s. insight into how you want me to believe your different income streams are used. You want to charge us to improve your business to increase your profits.. which is completely fine - just dont try to play it off as anything other than that. There are plenty of other options in the area that are cheaper and have better equipment depending on your goals and needs. Id be glad to share them if anyone asks.TLDR; Even if you froze your membership, City Fitness will charge you an annual membership fee even though they havent been open for a decent chunk of the year.
Do NOT give them your bank information or credit card. They changed the contract AFTER signing. Money hungry dishonest thieves!
DO NOT SIGN UP! Just tried signing up again and I owe over $800 for a gym I only did a free trial at. I ended up moving and they wouldn’t let me freeze or cancel my membership which resulted in this $800 in collections. Which is ridiculous for a place I went to the gym at a handful of times. If City Fitness sees this you need to fix this because this is not ok and making me pay even half of it which is their solution is ridiculous.
Im trying to work there
Best gym in Philly.
City Fitness has treated its once loyal members horribly during COVID. An attempt to cancel my membership led to much back and forth and unauthorized charges to my account. The pandemic has really revealed the true character of businesses during this time and City Fitness, you are garbage.
Money hungry place. Although they have nice facilities a suburban gym would beat it any day. I tried to cancel my account numerous times but it took a month for them to get back to me. Not to mention they opened the gym up during COVID-19 and instantly starting automatically charging members accounts. Charges were waived BUT NOW I have to pay an $80 cancellation fee. Talk about a bad breakup...
I was released from hospital at 7am and upon hitting the streets realized my phone was dead. The people here were so nice to let me wait in their warm reception area to wait for my family to pick me up. They are a real asset to the communitys health and well being. I will definitely keep them in mind next time I join the gym which will probably be sooner than later. The girls there were unbelievably kind hearted and helpful. They saved me that cold morning day
New, clean, good mix of people and equipment. Been a member since they opened. A little pricey between the bi-weekly and the quarterly fees, but I like the place. Loved the we/fit but it got too pricey.
These guys are so easy to deal with. Great staff (my man Jack!), great hours, clean facility, locations all over the place ... everything you could want out of a gym Price is great, too.I couldnt be happier. City Fitness is Phillys best gym, easily.
Very solid gym. Ample squat racks, benched, DBs, KBs, stretch room, other rooms, lots of room for activities 🤣 solid covid 19 protocols. Good hours.
FYI: if you decide to cancel they will find a way to charge your bank account 400 dollars or more ridiculous.
Ive been going here for about 3 months now and I have been enjoying it! The atmosphere is friendly and definitely an upgrade when comparing the gym to a budget friendly one like PF. I think the atmosphere and the amenities are great for the price - though. The gym does get crowded after 5pm, but if you manage to get in before then after a work day - you are able to find a machine or free weights! I also do Thrive which is separate from City Fitness - but located upstairs in the gym. Theres tons of welcoming, friendly and supportive people to work out with!
Great gym! Front desk always friendly and the facility is so clean. I wish they offered a mid day cycle class during the week in addition to the early and late times.
Bad experience with the service of this gym. A flyer/promotion came to my apt in Fishtown offering a trial for $21 for 21 days. Last day of the promotion was Nov 16th. We went that day around 5 pm but nobody was there to register us. We completed a form and provide info. One day after, I go to register. However, Jack and Mai mentioned they cannot honor this because it is after the days. I insisted I came in the day defined by the promo. But they did not consider that acceptable. It was marketing promotion said Mai and we do not control that. It was really disappointing experience and answer. You cannot blame another team, I explained to her. In summary, this is deceiving advertisement which includes according to the FTC “false oral or written representations”.
Best gym in Philly!
The staff at City Fitness are amazing. They go above and beyond to help you. They are extremely friendly and patient with people who may be new to the gym life. They give you a free fitness assessment to give you the maximum options. There are weights, machines, fitness class and more. Check it out if you are looking for a nice gym.
This gym has a pretty large layout and fairly new equipment. For the most part it is empty if you don’t go during the busy times after work. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Like any other city fitness, it’s about $80 a month. There is a lot of cardio equipment and has extra workout room upstairs.
I joined a few weeks ago. The gym itself is clean and organized. Ive been able to find parking nearby pretty quickly. I had a few questions early in the morning and the ladies at the desk were extremely helpful. They didnt have an answer for one of my questions at that moment, but called me within the hour with the answer. Great Customer service
This place is a dream come true. Its beautiful inside! And HUGE! Exposed brick, vaulted ceiling, old wood, multiple ceiling fans, skylights, a constant train going by through a high set of windows, and the water fountains are set to a cool (not cold) temperature, like 50°? And the crowd is quiet and respectful. Im new at all of this. Im new at being a gym member, I joined when we opened back on New Years Day. But Ive fallen in love with the process and the routine of it all. We are a result of the decisions we make. - Tony Robbins.Fact.And I decided, this year, that I want to make a major change, a healthy change, so I quit smoking. I joined this gym, I quit drinking beer* ... Ive addressed my diet. And my newest Decision is to look like a God. I want to wear Tattoos depicting my Poseidon! And Ill need to do some work on Me before I can adorn such an honorable piece of art. So, again, thank you City Fitness for providing my temple. My encouragement. My place of meditation.May the Force be with You.
Love city fitness fishtown. I live in the burbs but work here and would gladly travel here just for this gym. The class instructors are so nice but also make sure I am doing everything correctly as to not injure myself. I ping pong between classes and the floor and have never had a problem. It’s a great gym.
The staff is exceptionally helpful and courteous. Ive never had a poor experience here. I could wish there was more room for stretching / calisthenics, because the gym can get very busy, but I solve that by coming in early (before 7). Also, high marks for the smoothies. Veteran friendly too, be certain to ask. They were willing to work billing around absences.
Very clean gym and staff is friendly.
Love this gym, pretty empty if you go in the morning, polite members/staff, towels to use while you work out, clean facilities and great lighting. This gym was a bit of a splurge for me ($60/month for the basic membership) but the atmosphere motivates me to go more often. They also have reasonably priced pre/post workout shakes that you can order ahead of time to have ready whenever.
I have always been intimidated and self conscious when going to the gym. I cannot tell you enough how thankful I am to the trainers (especially Johnny and Franco) for their continued kindness, support and patience while I try to reach my goals. The entire staff is always friendly and helpful. Thank you!
Came in with a friend last we. I enjoyed my experience. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was nice. The thing I noticed the most was the fact how clean it was. Most gyms I go to have sweat on machines towels lying around not this gym. Thanks for the great experience City Fitness
*Do NOT* give this company your bank account information. The headache of trying to deal with them after trying to cancel was not worth the $5/biweekly discount. I had my wallet stolen in the middle of trying to get them to let me cancel and they wouldnt let me remove my bank account info. They then proceeded to go back and retrieve bank information from over a year ago that they had *assured* me was gone from their system and charge that.Your bank info is not safe with this company. Its a scam with a pretty gym attached. Use at your own risk.
Cons: Crowded during peak hours and can be dusty on the black mats in the warm up room.Pros: close walkable for Fishtown and old Kensington residence, reasonable fees and polite workers.
Clean and organized! Needs more beginner options for classes. Would love staff to be available more on gym floor to help me work out. I do have to give props to John who truly cares! He sat down on the row machine next to me to show me how to use it! Hes a great motivator and amazing guy! Honestly he truly was a motivating factor in signing up me and my 2 daughters! Fishtown needs a tanning bed ( or 2) for the price!hate the locking me into the year contract! Overall a. Beautiful place!
I was a member of city fitness for two years. This fitness center offers great equipment and qualifiable coaches if interested in personal training. Expect the group classes to be hard. Unfortunately I do not live in the are anymore but would recommend it.
Best and friendliest staff! Love Thrive classes!
Great gym. $20 day pass. Nice range of facilities and friendly staff.
Adequate/clean gym for various goals. However very pricey at $30 biweekly with discounts... and there are still parts of the gym thats inaccessible unless you purchase a very expensive thrive membership. If you do join prepare to workout your trying to find a Parking Spot muscle as parking is a nightmare.
Nice gym with free classes. Pretty cool perks. Its not cheap, you can make it cheaper if you do 5 simple tasks within your first month. The biggest flaw with City Fitness is the size. They have multiple foors and rooms but most of the equipment is in one room and it gets cramped during peak hours. Still a great place with awesome location.
My previous gym in the city was PSC mainly the one on Market; therefore, I was pleasantly surprised by City Fitness especially the Fishtown location. The cafe/lobby area is at a good distance from machines and weights so you can relax after a good one. I found the interior larger than it appears from the outside. The locker rooms are pretty straightforward, not too fancy but not dirty and muggy. The shakes are really tasty too.
I really love working out here. Somehow the beautiful ambience makes me work out harder, rather than a run of the mill mini mall gym. I cant speak to the classes but its great gym and the staff is always friendly.
Clean, modern facility. Friendly staff. Plenty of equipment. Close to public transit. So much to offer as far as gyms go.
A true value. This is a top notch facility for a very good price. The area is expansive. There are the Olympic platforms, a decent sized free weight area, a couple cross fit rooms, good cardio equipment, and two studios for classes. The building has exposed wood beams, preserving classic fishtown style. Theres a juice bar. Plenty of lockers. Friendly staff.I love this place.
Stay away, not worth it.The gym itself is very nice and I used to enjoy it when I first joined but it went downhill. It is never clean, the equipment is dirty, the mens locker room has water everywhere and is never maintained. They also decided to cut my lock as Im working out because someone said that their belongings were in my locker. And then they LEFT my lock cut, and not secure for hours, until I realized it when I got back to my locker and I had some of my belongings missing. STAY AWAY.
The facility is very clean as well as the equipment and spaced out accordingly.
I gave 2 stars because the facility seems nice and they have a good group class selection. But I had a really poor customer service experience so I will not be joining. I called to reserve a spot in two classes (Barre on a Thursday and Spin on a Friday) since I couldn’t reserve a class online with my 7 day trial membership. The woman who answered the phone took my name and email address down. I went to the Barre class and the instructor said my name wasn’t on the list but I could stay because she had room. I thought that was weird but figured it was just a glitch and I thought nothing more of it. But on Friday they told me they didn’t have my name down for the Spin class and that now it was full so I couldn’t take the class. I was super disappointed because I had planned my workouts for the week ahead of time and was organized enough to call in advance to reserve my bike. Anyway, I won’t be giving this gym my money because I feel like this was a pretty good indicator of this City Fittness’ level of organization.
All the equipment you would need to have a decent workout but lacks the aesthetic appeal of the fishtown location. Could uses some better lighting and some fresh murals or paint to really spruce the place up.
Great equipment and sauna. Staff is very friendly.
Visited this gym for a few days while in philly and staying in Fishtown - was great. The smoothie bar is a great feature - the PB one was delicious.
Went to this gym for 8 months before leaving because I was moving to a different city. My major grievance is how crowded the weight section gets during peak hours. It is not even worth trying to lift weights after work as youll spend all day waiting for all the exercises you need to do. My other major grievance is the number of ways they try to extract money from you, which I have delineated below:1. Thrive: They a cross-fit type program unique to City Fitness called Thrive which is exceedingly expensive. After declining, I was repeatedly asked in person, by text, email, and phone calls why I wasnt participating. They would go so far as to ask besides the money, why arent you joining thrive. The money is the main issue as their recommend Thrive program for me would have cost me $6,000 over the course of a year...2. The various fees... There is a sign-on fee, which is not unexpected but also an annual gym infrastructure fee which makes no sense. I dont get charged an infrastructure fee by my phone provider or my barber, so why does my gym think its okay to charge that so explicitly instead of considering those costs as an expenditure of their business.3. Finally, cancelling my membership took hours of my time. I went in person, called over the phone, sent emails, and went in person again. You have to cancel more than a month in advance (which fortunately I did but only by pure luck) and if you dont you get charged anyways. Finally, you cant directly talk to the billing people. Ive never heard of a more difficult way to cancel. Finally, I would have appreciated more yoga classes at the gym.I would have given this place two stars but they did have nice treadmills with TV and internet, along with a steady supply of clean towels.
Good but overcrowded. Definitely not a bodybuilders gym - free weights only go up to 80 lbs.
Best gym around. The gym is immaculate and the staff is amazing.I recommend it to anyone, you wont be disappointed.
Beautiful gym, great set of equipment and plenty of room. Only downside is the price, which isnt too bad.
Love this gym, has everything I need . I prefer to workout early before the 6:00am rush . Staff is very nice and is always helpful
Natural light, lots of space, top trainers, spacious, great classes, in my opinion this is the Best gym in philly .
The facility is clean, the staff is helpful and there are a good amount of classes offered throughout the week. Not usually a gym person but I am impressed with this location.
Great Gym Great Staff, it’s pricey but it’s worth it
Great gym with a nice and cheerful staff. Great selection of equipment and not too packed.
Clean gym with friendly staff and great equipment! I love the group exercise classes - they offer zumba, les mills bodypump and bodycombat, spin, yoga, and more. The thrive training program is awesome. All of the personal trainers are knowledgeable and personable. The small group training sessions are motivating.
I am not a member but after asking to take a tour, I was asked to make an appointment to return. They got my name and number and have been harassing me ever since. I just got three phone calls in a row while I was on a very important phone call and hung up thinking it was an emergency. Do not step foot in here unless you know for sure you want to be a member or if you want to be harassed on your phone for the next few weeks.
Very helpful staff.
The people there better learn to talk to people the right way. I asked the guy behind the desk how much is it to join? And he looked at me and said i dont understand what you said? for real? i asked WHO MUCH IS IT TO JOIN? How hard is that to understand? Then he gets cocky and well it all matter what you want, you know.......NO I DONT KNOW BECAUSE YOU WONT TELL ME? Then he said well pay with a card and it will be cheaper, you do got a card AND DO YOU LIVE IN PHILLY? >>>>>>>>WHAT KIND OF CARD? AND WHAT WILL ME CHEAPER? BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT TELLING ME ANYTHING?AND WHAT DOES IT MATTER WHERE I LIVE? THEN I SAID I WILL PAY IN CASH......AND HE SAIDS,WELL OM....OM...I DONT KNOW,OM...OM..........THEN I WALKED OUT OF THERE WITH THE $1500 IN CASH I HAD ON ME TO PAY TO JOIN THE GYM, BUT NO THE GYM DIDNT GET MY MONEY BECAUSE THEY HAVE MORONS WORKING FOR THEM......AND I LIVE RIGHT UP THE STREET AND I BEEN LIVING HERE FOR 41 YEARS IN FISHTOWN,BORN AND RAISE . IM NOT ONE OF THEM NEWBIES THESE PEOPLE BETTER LEARN SOME RESPECT ASAP.............
I should come here more.
Definitely pricy, but well kept. The quantity of equipment is plentiful, keeping your standing around time to a minimum.
Weights are always disorganized. Need to get more 2.5 lb plates as well. Also can we get a dang morning yoga class?! Cmon guys
They got everything you need and more! Get yolked!
Very clean and new facility. Staff is extremely attentive and helpful.
Great equipment and a lot of space.
Great atmosphere and employees!
Great space
Very well laid out. Friendly staff.
A total scam! So many sub policies they wont explain or skip through when you are joining and then rip you off disrespectfully at the end. I am extremely outraged with how they handle their memberships. Super disappointed!
TOO MUCH MONEY, SHOULD BE AROUND $30.00 MONTHLY, TO MANY GYM CHEAP FOR BE PAYING 70.00 MONTHLY
Great place to workour.
Clean gym, nice staff.
Great gym with awesome classes
Rude staff
Set up an appointment in advance to talk with a membership rep. Get a text half hour before the appointment confirming and then when I walk in, on-time, the front desk tells me membership is closed and to fill out a form and try tomorrow. What would be the point if the appointment means nothing anyway? What a joke.
Expensive membership but the facilities are very nice. Go for the student membership.
