I am a custom woodworker who build multiple pieces for Details Construction Group as a subcontractor. I worked side by side with their knowledgeable and talented designers for a custom dining table, bench, and floating vanity. They did a great job on the rest of the house and Im glad I was able to have a few of my pieces in the home.

While there will always be pain points with remodeling a home, (lets face it, having strangers in your home making a mess is painful!) the finished product is wonderful. Having realistic expectations helps. I love this team, but I will say that when they told us our current project would take 6 weeks, my husband & I agreed on 9 weeks, and thats about where well end up. Based on subcontractors being tied up and materials being on backorder, we sort of assumed this would be the case. However, we feel we have a great line of communication with everyone, so were all on the same page & all is well here.Flora, Kevin & their team have already completed our guest bath and laundry room, and they are working on our master suite now. The 2 completed rooms are absolutely dreamy! The laundry room alone would make me envious if it werent mine.Before (very 1988) & after (dreamy) photos of our completed projects so far!

I hired Flora and her company to complete my upstairs flooring, banister and stairs! After several months the results were amazing! I absolutely love my renovation and I get plenty of complements on it as well! It’s definitely made a huge change in the interior aesthetic of my home.

This was not our first remodel but was our most painless to date. We contracted with Details a while ago for a full house remodel and could not be happier. The biggest plus that stood out for us was the feeling that the process felt more personal and there was great attention to detail. My husband and I felt that we were able to take the backseat on this one and not be so involved. Remodeling, in general, can be stressful but having realistic expectations and communicating with your contractor has helped make this remodel our favorite.

Details for Construction is the brain child of Flora Smith. I met her at an Orlando Home Show when I was looking for a company to build a large garage addition and renovate the entire inside of our Lake Mary house. She helped me acquire a licensed contractor, Mike Boccard of Boccard Construction, to build a beautiful 1000 sq/ft garage addition for my husbands cars and hobbies. Mike was a fantastic builder who did not leave everything up to subs, but did much of the work himself. Plus Flora used many of the same subcontractors on the house renovations. However she was integrally involved in helping pick house and garage colors to match the Mediterranean style of the house as well as design elements on the garage to make it look like it is part of the house and not just some huge addition.Then she and her team entirely took over the whole house inside renovations from designs to helping me pick flooring options, paint colors, window treatments, etc. Her attention to detail and coordination of the many subcontractors with the help of her main builder, John Hillier, was amazing. The best thing about Flora (besides personally liking her) is her Bull Dog demeanor about keeping things moving and responsiveness to any issues that I might have. We meshed well as we are both very detail oriented. She was easy to contact by phone, e-mail, or text, and she responded quickly to messages. It took some time but it all came together beautifully and we could not be happier with our finished dream retirement house and property. Finally we loved working with Flora and her entire team.

I did an Owner Builder extension onto my house. Flora and Details were perfect for this project. She knew the Rules, the laws, how to Permit the project, how and more importantly who to sub-contract, the estimates, the flow, how to put it all together, and most importantly how to keep me from going crazy with all the chaos of a project this size. She wasnt just help, she was a partner in this project. Ive not met a more hard working lady.

Overall, the work is good and we are extremely happy with the phyisical results. However, our time working with Details Construction had left a sour taste in our mouths, likely losing from any consideration for future projects we have planned. After leaving a review with the BBB, Details finally listened to some of our complaints and resolved some issues with had. Since some of the more specific details were resolved, I removed them from the review. However, there are still things to consider when potentially hiring Details.-Payments were muddled because items in Buildertrend were irregularly inputted, making payment for labor and items line by line muddled. The result is a feeling of overpaying for labor and items that were abandoned from the scope of work.The use of Buildertrend should be completely committed to or use the of easily to access documentation by Details should be used for accurate reporting of costs. Either way, make sure everything it itemized and cost accurately recorded.-While we agreed to a time limit- and will admit the mistake on our part placing no consequences in the contract-, expectations were sorely missed by the time management on their part. There was no reason ever provided to explain the constant delay of labor on site or the ordering/ manufacturing key items, like kitchen cabinents, the front door or shower glass or stove hood. All these items should have been planned accordingly and ordered within a reasonable time once payments were initidated. The result is a project nearly three times the stated length where near full months of no work was performed.-There were issues with the Details team, both in what seemed like a lot of turnover and very little communication. Several subcontractors have also expressed that little to no instructions or plans were passed along to them. The problem was compounded by Kevin not regualry visiting the site to make sure that work was initially done as we described or errors fixed when they happened.-Laslty, Flora, the one original member left on the project and leader of the company, the one who we consulted and did initial walkthroughs with has refused to personally see the results, despite knowing our deep dissatisfaction with errors counter to what she pitched. The person who pitches promises and good results needs to see them through. Flora, representing a company named to highlight a personal and thorough touch, has ignored the details that matter. A lot of this was resolved by the BBB review.We would like to highlight one person that we have enjoyed working with. Janaina has been consistent about being specific, timely and organized, virtues the rest of the company seems to lack, especially highlighting the shortfalls of the previous project manager. She demonstrated the professionalism and problem solving expected in any kind of business. She was constantly checking in on site and kept us apprised of all work and consulted regularly on most items before installing.

They didn’t finish the work. We got a lawyer to get them to get some of the work done because just like the other review there were months when there wasn’t any work done or calls returned. They didn’t pay many of the subcontractors. They were hostile to work with. We had to hire other trades to finish the job. Wouldn’t recommend them.

I usually dont leave reviews but I am so thrilled with the work Flora and her grew did, I had to let her know. I would absolutely use Details again, and Ive already recommended them to a friend.

We have been working with Flora now for over a year and it has been nothing but great. They have great vision and provide and great product. Hope to continue working with them for many years to come.
