Bloody awful. If you want to have to cancel your weekend plans stay far away. We are Hertz five star members. We Waited 45 minutes and other people had been waiting for an hour and a half. Everyone had a reservation. There were no cars. Literally we asked — you don’t have the cars right? And we were told— no we don’t. It would’ve been kind to tell us when we arrived rather than wait until we ask if our car exists. Had to cancel our plans. We asked for a refund and we couldn’t even get a confirmation of our refund. They said check your email— nothing. And then they said “it’ll take 7 to 10 days for your refund to go through”. Good luck with this one.

Dont waste your money or time, customer service was below average. Agents look and spoke with attitude & thats disrespectful. Go to ENTERPRISE. Ive had great experiences with them. And will go back to them after the horrible experience with hertz
Like many others, if I could give 0 star I would. This is the worst rental agency Ive ever used. We went early to be sure not to wait too long, turns out they dont have enough cars for the amount of reservations ! Completely unprofessional, the staff was rude and couldnt care less even when you prepay. More than 20 families were waiting to get a car, the staff couldnt give anyone a wait time but clearly said Could be today, could be tomorrow. I do not understand how they are still in business, we ended up canceling after 2 hours of waiting and well have to fight them to get a full refund.
Danny was great! Customer service was above and beyond. He definitely helped us choose a vehicle close to the actual vehicle we had wanted to rent. The price was right because we knew how much we actually wanted to spend on the rental. I will definitely recommend renting a vehicle again from this specific Hertz. Way to go guys!

We had booked a rental online and our location was closed but Hertz hadn’t notified us. We called customer service and got in touch with this location, Terrell saved our vacation by confirming availability of our car type during our reservation days and honoring the original price. Will definitely do business here again and really appreciated how professional, smooth, and personal the whole process was!
Don’t rent from hertz, worst customer service out of any car service! They gave me a car with broken gas tank, i ended having to refill tank 3 times! When i complained they offered a voucher for later rental and now but they didn’t mention that you can only use in person which is more expensive!! How much more expensive? The price of voucher which basically means it’s worthless!!! When i called to explain they gave me the run around. 😡
HORRIBLE, they parked my car against a wall and then tried to argue with me that it wasn’t against the wall, when I had a photo of it, then the manager proceeded to tell me that I should never come back. I’m sorry what makes you think I’m going to come back if you messed up my rear bumper? Maybe ill stop by so you can mess up my front bumper so it can match the back
Fast service, good car, but charge me fuel purchase option after I told them “ I will fill it up. “ They charged me 60 bucks !!! I filled it up when I returned it. but they didn’t give me refund. —> I sent them email few times but they don’t give me proper answer. After I called them directly then they refund FPO fees.I have used Hertz service for several times when I visited New York, but I visited this Hertz office first time. Other Hertz offices in Manhattan didn’ t do this kind of service.
Getting the car was quick and easy. Go for the optional gas refill, its tough to find fuel in NYC. The time you save is priceless and their cost is similar if not the same. **important** there is after hours return via parking company with a $25 service charge. Overall, 1st time renting was quite good.

The Hertz personal on 126 w55th were very nice. The problem, and it was big, there were NO CARS. Apparently the expected car returns werent happening leaving the city void of cars. so here I sit in a Uber 😠

Unfriendly staff more interested in watching TV than assisting you. You wont even be greeted when you walk in. This is the first rental Ive ever done where absolutely nothing about the contract terms were explained to me. I was simply told to sign the screen when I picked up the car. And then told what I owed when I dropped it off. I wasnt even told what it was that I was paying for until I asked. They also have limited vehicle options in comparison with nearby Enterprise.
Easiest place to rent from and service is usually very good. I rent at least 12-13 times a year from this location and there are a couple of people that are very customer centric. Most others are doing their job which is a good thing. The car was great and everything I was promised by Hertz. Thank you Hertz for making my life easy in Manhattan. I will be renting another one tonight at the same location.

Failed to send invoice despite multiple reminders. Did not honor return hour: was scheduled to 22:30, but closed at 21:30.Not the service I would expect from Hertz.Update: Justin from Hertz contacted me to get feedback on how they can improve. He added a link to email him - which doesnt work (error upon submit, saying Road Block Ahead), and the support email doesnt work as well (rejects all mail messages larger than....... 0KB).It doesnt come out to me as a company that is eager to collect feedback.
The staff was very friendly and patient. Kudos specifically to Rose at the front counter who waited for us to be sure our credit card was 100 percent ready to go. I dont ever want to drive in NYC again, but if I need to, Ill be sure to come back to this Hertz.
This guys are very unprofessional they don’t have any manners and they don’t explain the contract as they should. I ask one of the staff members why I have to sign this paper and he lied to me saying “oh that’s only to receive the keys of the car after that you are all set. I replied: “are you sure?” And he said “yeah yeah just sign and I’ll give you the keys”, I replied again “sir I never had a rental before” and he answered back “can you please sign to get this process done?”.This location is very exclusive and your guys should have better staff and better management because everything starts from the top.
Fairly good service throughout the transaction. I wouldnt say it was the friendliest service that I have ever received but they got the job done in an efficient manner. Driving in NYC however, was a completely different story! A great location to rent from and I would recommend them from my overall experience.

We ended up waiting for over 30 minutes for a 9am car reservation. Our agent was rude and could not explain the answer to a basic question about the rate per gallon. The agent was also unapologetic despite having us wait so long for the car. Very disappointing service. I would NOT recommend using this Hertz location.”

I wish I could give them a ZERO!!! I picked up the car in MA and was told it would be under $300 and to bring it back with a bit over half a tank (since that’s what was in the car when we got it). We got the final bill and we were charged almost $600 bucks!! Double!!!!!!! We filled up the tank like we were told by the hertz in MA and have a whole bunch of extra charges we don’t even know what they are!!! On top of that they took all of our original paper work claiming they needed to keep them to confirm drop off. SCAMMERS! Never again! My next review will be on social media so everyone knows they like to over charge. Shame bc we rent cars often BUT NEVER AGAING AT HERTZ!
This review only entails the pickup experience and appearance of the Hertz on 55th between 6th and 7th.Pickup experience was seamless. I was 2nd in line and Anyel had me on the way to get the rental within 5 minutes. He answered my questions succinctly and calmly, mind you this was New Years Day, so he definitely had a better attitude than I was expecting.The appearance of the Hertz was standard, maybe even a bit nicer than expected due to sharing the parking lot with public parking. Overall as standard as an experience as you could hope for when renting a car.
The agent that took care of me for check in was very professional and polite. The same when I returned the vehicle. It was it was fast and efficient.
We are not from NYC and the thought of renting a car in this huge city was a bit daunting, however the staff at the Hertz on 55th Street were fantastic with service & extremely helpful with directions. One of the staff even escorted us to the lower level to our vehicle. Well done. Well done indeed!!
My husband and I went to this Hertz location to exchange a vehicle. The local branch manager had excellent customer service and make our holidays travels much more comfortable!

Checked in as a Gold Five Star an hour before my reservation just to be safe - over 40 minutes about 12 others that got in after me were processed as fresh reservations as walk-ins before I had to go and check in again - and then waited 20 more minutes.So much for early check in or benefits of gold membership.

Made the reservation 2 days in advanced, my car was right there waiting for me, I was driving not even 5 minutes since I arrived to the Hertz office in midtown manhattan. Car was clean and in perfect conditions and returning it took me less than 5 minutes as well.Very happy with the service

So we actually rented from Dollar in here - I think its partnered with Hertz, on the lower level. We paid an extra $2 for a premium car instead of economy and ended up with a pretty cool SUV instead of the usual non descript cars. For 10am-10pm on a Saturday from NYC, our total rental cost was roughly $60 - super economical and so worth it. No one tried to upsell us anything like insurance or GPS, it was no frills, super quick, hassle free and straightforward, no extra charges or hidden costs. Easy to find, well staffed, great quality car. We drove 150miles and just paid an extra $20 to fill up the tank before dropping it off. All in all, a brilliantly easy and stress-free experience, thank you.
If I have read about the reviews before, I would def NEVER chose this place. My experience was horrible. The staffs are so busy to close the office before 10pm, they are already out of mind from 9pm I guess. Why dont you just say we close at 10pm but the actual closing time is 9pm.If you rent a car till 10pm(which is the closing time), BE SURE TO BE THERE AT LEAST AN HOUR BEFORE, or they will treat you as an trouble maker, exactly saying, YOU ARE MAKING TROUBLE HERE, IT IS ABOUT TO CLOSE.Staffs should know that they shall not HUMILIATE their own customers!!! PLEASE DONT CHOOSE THIS PLACE BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION, I INSIST.I was going to email to the manager, but after reading the reviews here, I guess theres no need to. The process or renting and return was the smoothest I have experienced so far. The vehicle I received was clean, mechanically sound and had low mileage. I could not be more satisfied with Hertz or the location I rented from.
Liers and thieves! From the moment we made the reservation, all the information given was false and misleading. I made a reservation and called their office to confirm the availability of the vehicle, which they confirmed. Ten minutes later we went to pick it up and the car they assured was waiting for me was not. They upgraded the car with corporate associate assurance that the rate was going to be honored as per the reservation. I have called them 3 times since we dropped off the car and nobody cares. The manager Juana Robinson did not care to help. She literally said you do what you gotta do!DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!I have dealt with Hertz for over 15 years this is the first time I get such treatment. I will not be renting from hertz again.

I would give zero stars if I could. First of all, they quoted us one price on the phone and then the actual price was $30 more. Then the car came dirty and still had other peoples trash and crumbs in it. We were told we could return the car up until 10PM. Since we would be cutting it close, we called the local office and spoke with Tanisha, telling her we would be arriving right before 10pm. She was not very helpful and then purposefully close the offie EARLY so when we arrived at 9:58 she had already left and closed up the whole office. Because of this we had to pay $20 extra to park in garage overnight. When I spoke with the manager the next morning she was the most unhelpful and rude person I have ever encountered. She claimed she had to check the footage and straight up lied about her employee being there until 10:15pm and said there was nothing she could do. On top of everything its absurdly expensive. DO NOT GO HERE.
Everyone is waiting here now ..waiting time is one hour at least..and the staff working here is terrible..she apparently doesnt care and has an attitude..there is only one guy working on cleaning the available cars...why bother to have membership status here
Follow up. I was refunded by hertz corporate so I will update my star rating to 3 .Minus -5 stars yes. A cleaning fee appeared on my bill for $75. I called and was told it is not a cleaning fee but because I parked the car in the wrong spot after hours. I was directed by Hertz customer service to park the car exactly where I left it and followed instructions over the phone. I went back the next morning to ensure they found everything ok with the vehicle. The lady at the counter said everything was fine. She did not tell me there was a cleaning fee which I found on my bill the next day. Stating a cleaning fee for incorrect parking is a clear indication they are adding illegal fees to their bills. Watch out and stay away. Herz corporate customer service also refused to do anything about the bill and just switched me back to the branch every time call trying to solve the situation. I guess I have no option but to report this to my credit card company
Arrived to pick up my car 40 min. AFTER the scheduled time and was told that the car is not ready and there is nothing that they dont know when it will be ready. after shouting at me the staff lady said that they will try to rush it but they have no idea when it will be ready.the most rude staff Ive ever experienced in a Hertz location around the globe.
Check in was fast and we were in our car within minutes. Our reservation was at 6:30 am but we were running behind; called to let them know and all was well.
I was a little scared after reading all the bad reviews but went ahead and rented from them because it was do close to where I was. No issues at all! Super fast service, nice new car, easy return and good price.
The lady behind the counter was short-tempered,,, she exclaimed Oh-God behind my back which is unprofessional. She should have kept in mind as a non-US I am not familiar with their rental procedure and should have showed courtesy to customer.
Had a wonderful experience June 12. Arrived around 7:30am on a Sunday. Nobody waiting for cars. Was in and out less then 2 minutes. Sonide was very helpful and quick.Rented a Doge Caravan. Perfect, clean shape. Less then 4500 miles.Returned Sunday around 7pm. Again very simple. Gave Sonide the mileage reading and done in one minute. All in all very easy and happy with this rental.

Nasty staff
Car booked online with Avis on 54th but thankfully no payment in advance. Arrived Sat 8 July at 12pm to find a long queue and only one staff member. She had already spent 30 minutes on one customer when I gave up and went round the corner to Hertz on 55th. Three staff and no queue. Luckily I got their last car. I had to downgrade from a SUV with Avis to a compact with Hertz for the same price but happy to do so to avoid Avis and its poor customer service. Higher price acceptable as I was a walk-in. I will book with this office next time I am in NY. But Avis USA never again.

Expensive (about$700 for a week, for a subcompact), perhaps in large part because its Manhattan. Otherwise a pleasant experience.
Waited over an hour to get my car. Staff was rude and insulting toward everyone who asked any questions about where their car was. Ceiling was leaking badly and there were puddles everywhere - very hellish experience. Notes for management: improve the efficiency of the process and don’t abuse the foreign tourists who paid to utilize your service.
I have used this location exclusively for the past (2) years. The staff is always friendly and efficient, I get an upgrade whenever there is one available (I am in the Presidents circle) and the cars are always immaculate. It is a pleasure!

Horrible experience. We rented a car and when we showed up they told us they didn’t have any cars for us and wouldn’t have one for another 50 mins. There were over 20 people waiting for cars. In addition to this huge mess, the desk attendants were rude, angry, and proceeded to shame us for expecting the car we reserved to be there. Why would anyone reserve a car for possibility that they might have one available? I’m very embarrassed for Hertz. With new and efficient transportation options like Uber and Turo, Hertz at the very least should be able to provide cars when you reserve one.
I own a car, for long trips, I like to rent a car. I am always interested in good value especially living in Manhattan. Convenience is also a big factor and so when the idea that I can hop over to New Jersey or the airport slips into my mind I find myself calling Hertz with the 55th Street location in mind. Im value driven and tend not to think of Hertz. This is a mistake because Hertz will discount your rental if you qualify. Other than price, which is a personal matter, car rental as represented by Hertz vehicles and service on West 55th Street is as good as it gets. I take the time to write this review because I am genuinely greatful for friendly and courteous treatment that I no longer take for granted. As for the vehicle, I asked for a full size and I was given a Nissan Rogue. The vehicle was perfect for me especially, pedal placements. For my husband, the Nissan has a poor driving position, no lumbar support and lacks electric control of seats. It was nonetheless a brand new vehicle that performed well.

Lady by name of Tamara deserves to be fired from Hertz for ridiculously rude behavior.Dont rent here unless you want to wait 1+h for your car from the time you arrive! Not to mention when you actually made reservation.Hertz lost my business thanks to this experience and that of my entire company as well.

October 16th, 2016 Hertz at 55th St is awful.My reservation was from 9am to 11pm.I was there at 9 oclock but got the car only at 9:45.For returning the car I was there a few minutes before 11 oclock but the door was closed already and the woman (Hertz representative) told me that she switched her computer off already so I have to return the car to another company and pay $20 fee for this.She refused to introduce and tell her name. But she gave me the car in the morning.
My car was delivered to an annex location.Pluses: it was there on time, no issues, and the car was fine.Minuses: I got charged for the wrong insurance supplement (adding $30 to the bill) despite calling the main office on the phone when I picked up the car to make sure Id be getting charged for the right one. Receipt took 8 days to get, and when I did get it, there was also a Fuel & Service charge added (even though Id filled the tank and declined that service) for another $61. It took over 30 minutes of waiting on the phone to get a person - they immediately spotted the problem and fixed it (but seriously - if its so immediately obvious, why cant they make sure that its spotted and fixed before they inconvenience a customer? I suspect that many people dont spot the overcharge, which is then pure profit).Im very disappointed with the experience because of the post-rental problems, but I think this is probably a corporate problem rather than a site problem. If Im going to make a choice to go with the more expensive car rental agency - which to be frank, Hertz is - then I expect that the service and quality will reflect that, and its missing the mark.

I use this locatiom for short weekend excursions or day trips to Westchester or NJ.I prefer to use a location closer to the UWS, but cars run out quickly. This location is always reliable in terms of inventory.Rental rates are pricey, but its midtown Manhattan, so expected. If you want cheap, go to the LaGuardia rental companies (but I guarantee that the worse experience and extra time it takes to wait in long lines and travel there to retrieve the car, and etc., will NOT be worth it).The staff at the rental counter here are exceptionally nice.

Old car, with a big schatch in the bumper. During the whole trip a message in the car`s dashboard: mainteinance required. My family and I felt very unsafe. In the last miles the Never Lost did not work.No explanation at reception.

Mr.Joel Thomas( WHO HAD AN ATTITUDE, WHY ARE YOU COMING TO ME....??) informed him that in the past rentals I had out of this office I was told either return places would suffice.He then proceeded to inform me that I had 4 hours due to my platinum card and my return would be at 2pm,when I informed him that Miss Sonide had expressly said I had to return car by 1200p.m (because of the rate we had-only allowed 2hours.). he then changed to 1600pm which I found rather confusing info., because then I would have return the car with ample time to jfk(hertz)-since I concluded my business early in n.y.When I asked him that the info. provided me was rather confusing he did not want to hear this, and copped a very insulting attitude-behavior,take the car to jfk or $120.00 some dollars would go to a.x. card-rather then continue this senseless conversation, he asked to bring car back up- from 1 minute to next decided to cancel car, close contract and said conversation over, leave the premises or I will call security or police- this is what did it for me(by the way he informed the 2/3 employees,i asked him for the name of the lady which rented the car for us on the 20th june he said he was on vacation he did not know who she was, did not provide a closing invoice bill(refused),when Miss Sonide showed up she wanted to know what was going on and I QUOTED her explanation to me day before, she agreed on the 1200pm(very confusing information) conversation we had-this man did not want to hear anything, my way or the highway. He was changing the story by the minute. He never returned the car to me taking from me the opportunity to return the card to the other locationtoday 07/06/16 we still waiting for answers from hertz!!

Awful, awful, awful. From start to finish making a last minute rental here was a complete disaster, and finally led to me being over $40 out of pocket. Waited 30mins in line to be seen, a line was out of the door, and waited 30mins at the counter for the car to be brought around (from where??). Youd think that would be long enough to have any finer details regarding policy explained to you, but even after asking to look at my contract while waiting it was not provided. Was sold their pre pay fuel option on the premise it would be by the gallon, and in all that waiting time (and despite me saying I was only doing about 150m) I wasnt informed it was for a full tank only. 77th was a parking lot when I returned that evening, a complete shambles of an outfit. They rely on the erroneous wait times and chaotic atmosphere to dupe and rush people into making costly mistakes. Even spoke with the manager subsequently, he really couldnt care less about any customers returning or righting any wrongs. No wonder this place always has availability (where the far more superior Alamo, National, Avis etc do not), its a one time last minute rental place and they know it. It shows...

Returning the car seems complicated than picking up the car. In the afteroon there were less instructions given from the staff. In the morning I had given clear instructions to start with. I still llove Hertz!
