Mrs. Patricia has been doing my hair for about 9 months now and I absolutely love her! She is very detailed oriented, and focuses on your particular needs as well as where you would like to see your hair such as length, thickness, etc. Over the course of 9 months my hair has grown SOOOOO much! I’m leaving this review only because I wish someone would have done it for me. I scheduled my nail appointment in advance, only to be told upon arrival that there was an hour delay. The nail technician stated that she called to notify me but I didn’t pick up. I assumed I was in the wrong then double-checked the phone number with her so I could pick up when she called back. An hour passed without a call, so I contacted the business to follow up. She told me she was ready to see me. All of that seemed understandable as the salon was busy.What I was less sympathetic to was that it took 2 hours to do a simple pedicure and manicure. Unfortunately, I was being juggled between another client, phone calls and texts from her family members, and socializing with her friend on Snapchat. If it weren’t for the long wait I would have easily overlooked the unprofessional behavior. I can honestly say I’ve never had an experience like that.In the interest of diplomacy, the nail technician was very nice and did my nails as requested. But, it’s hard to overlook the experience as a whole. I would not recommend going to this salon for your nails.

Patrick, at VIP, is an excellent stylist for both men and women. He has been cutting my husband and sons hair for years. I highly recommend him.

The absolute best hair salon I’ve ever been too. Everyone is very professional, pleasant and they always make you feel comfortable. My stylist Tricia is very accommodating to my ever changing work schedule. I never have a problem getting an appointment to have maintenance done on my dreadlocks. The shop it’s self is nicely laid out, bright, always spotless. Even with everyone wearing masks you can see the smiles under their masks. VIP is my forever Hair Salon.

I’ve been going to VIP off and on for years. My experience after washing my hair wasn’t good. I Experience a lot of heat damage, so I change the stylist: which was the owner. I just know she was going to redeem my experience. I’m going to say. I haven’t gone back sense my experience. That was about 4 months ago; I went out to dinner with my best friend, and her grandmother that knows the owner and she laughed; at my hair at my hairstyle, but I said, it’s ok. The one thing I was happy about was that. I wash my hair there was know heat damage. I am happy to say I didn’t have to chop my hair off again for the 3 time.

I brought my 14 yo daughter for 1st time appt with Tiffany. It was easy to schedule and she got us in right away. The salon was bright, clean and fun atmosphere. Tiffany was wonderful taking the time to explain to my daughter different products and how to take care of her hair. She gave her a gorgeous haircut that shes constantly receiving compliments on. She loves her new style and the cut has been easy for her to maintain on her own. So thank you again Tiffany for taking care of my daughter! Your caring and kindness are an added bonus.

He also was very rough on my scalp and when I told him that I was sensitive in a certain spot he still pulled extremely hard and even seemed like he was in a rush and I was a bother and not a priority. I CRIED ALL DAY because my hair was so messed up after seeing him. It is extremely short and looks frizzy and unhealthy. Do not go to him if you have natural hair I’m begging you. I would give anything to go back in time and not go because I miss my old hair so much. He also blew up my phone with very unprofessional texts and even insulted my hair in a very unprofessional way. It was absolutely shocking the way he texted me and continued to constantly text me. I might even go get braids because my hair is so messed up and probably will be for a while now. Worst experience I have ever had period.

I have been going to Vip for over 25 years and I don’t know what I would do without this place! I see Tiffany who is the owner and she is amazing at her craft. She does the best job on my super thick hair and always accommodates me if I have a vacation or special occasion, she has even come in on a day the shop is closed when I was in desperate need! When Covid hit they strictly followed the rules and are still very cautious, I have always felt safe there during the pandemic. My mom and friends also are customers as well. VIP is such a friendly yet professional place. Top notch .

BEFORE RECEIVING SERVICE:I called the stylist to make my initial appointment. I stated to them that my hair was completely natural and my ends had been 2 weeks before hand at another appointment. The stylist asked me to send them pictures of my hair before service to verify both the condition of my hair and that my ends had been trimmed (I included those pics below for reference....Im wearing a red blouse please note I took those pictures 2 weeks after I got my hair serviced at another salon)UPON RECEIVING SERVICE FROM VIP:Sections of my hair were looked fluffy other sections had turned a gold color. Stylist tried curling my hair and it had a small amount of curl but the curl quickly came out. However my roots were bone straight. Stylist never mentioned anything about my ends needing to be trimmed. (pics included below for reference, Im wearing a purple coat and look very upset) after realizing my hair was damaged, i called the stylist and told them and the stylist said to come in.UPON GETTING HOME:I realized my hair was unevenly done. Sections were still fluffy other sections were bone straight but rough and nappyily shriveled up. I attempted to comb my hair through, spoon doing so gold shriveled up pieces came out. All my ends looked split. I attempted to reflat iron my hair but the ends still looked split and my hair looked and felt rough but was bone straight and super thin. However my hair would not curl and was stiff all over. I waited a couple of days to see if after wrapping it or would curl, and it still wouldnt, so I had no choice but to face the music that the damage might not be reversible. I then called the stylist and they told me to come in immediately.UPON ARRIVING AT THE SHOP TO SHOW DAMAGE AND GET IT FIXED: The stylist suggested we cut my hair in layers. The stylist lied and claimed my hair wasnt burned and that my ends were damaged before service and needed to be trimmed. They also stated the gold color and shriveled damaged looking hair was from sun exposure during the summer.I preceded to explain that my hair wasnt damaged before; my ends had been trimmed 2 weeks before allowing the stylist to do my hair; and also stated that I do not do my own hair and this was the second time Id had my hair flatironed this year. I also stated I wear protective sew-ins during the warm months. Stylist claimed my ends were already split as well as the gold color to be from sun exposure during the summer. I was very frustrated as Ive been natural for 6,7 years and take care of my hair. I get my hair flat ironed in the winter and i do not flat iron my hair in between salon visits. I wrap my hair at night and unwrap it every morning.Im devastated as my hair now will not even curl after keeping it wrapped for several days.2 WEEKS AFTER SERVICE: my hair is still hard and stiff. Its bone straight but still wont curl after 2 weeks of being wrapped. The front has broken off entirely

VIP has always had a great reputation. I got my locs retwisted by Tricia. She is professional and fun talk with. I am normally hesitant to have gel in my hair for loc retwists, but whatever she used, I like it so far. My hair isnt over saturated with product and doesnt feel weighed down, its moving. I also like that she didnt have me sitting under the dryer until my hair was bone dry. She keeps it simple with products and protective styling.

I went to have my natural hair straightened. The stylist did a good job washing and deep conditioning my hair. During the blow-dry time. My hair was tangled, I asked the stylist TODD to be gentle but he yelled at me, the stylist was not patient, pulled my hair so hard, he kept saying I had so much hair and like he was rushing to go home. My hair was shading like crazy, burnt my scalp, and didnt use heat protection. A couple weeks later, I decided to shampoo my hair, the heat damage was insane. I went in with beautiful bra-length 4c hair, now I my hair is shoulder length with heat damage, I might cut it all off. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE NATURAL HAIR please!!! Worst experience Ive ever had, I cry when I look at my hair coz it never going to be the same again, he ruined my hair.

My review is regarding stylist Whitney Parker; she did my hair for my wedding on 04/06/2019! Whitney was exactly what I was looking for. The search for a hairstylist who knows how to style black hair (3c/4a if youre into the hair typing system) and will execute EXACTLY what I want for my wedding AND is located in Minnesota AND is willing to travel 3 hours from Minneapolis to Pine River was rough. I was referred to Whitney through a friend and I did a hair trial in December. I really liked what she did at the trial, but she did mention that she thought my bangs could be made to look fuller by adding a couple extensions. I told her I wasnt sure if I wanted extensions, and she said it was up to me and that she would create the extensions for me if I changed my mind. I in fact did end up changing my mind and when I told her, she had already made the extensions for me! I want to point out that she came and did my hair for my wedding while being 8 months pregnant! She and her husband drove 3 hours to Pine River; she did my hair, my moms, the flower girls, and my maid of honors hair and then drove back home. She did also stay through my first look pictures so she could fix my hair if it needed to be fixed (which it did, after standing outside in the misting rain for the pictures). My hair didnt move the entire night and it was absolutely everything I wanted. She also jerry-rigged together a bobby pin set-up to make putting on my veil super easy; my veil didnt move through the entire ceremony and the first look. And the true test of whether or not I ever let someone do my hair a second time...my hair reverted back to its lovely, curly state with absolutely no heat damage :D Whitney did well, and she blended in with my family and was laughing and talking with all of us the whole time, while still being professional and getting the job done. I highly recommend her for one of the most important days of your life. Thanks again Whitney!P.S. She bought the sparkly hair ornament for me without me even asking and it was gorgeous!

I have been going to VIP to see Todd for a few years now and my hair has never been healthier! I moved about 2.5 hours away and still come up to the cities to get my hair done!There has never been a single time Todd couldn’t get me in when I needed it (even very last minute). He knows I have a daughter so gets me in and out quicker than any stylist I’ve ever worked with.He gets my hair straighter than it has ever been (naturally) or gives me bouncy, lasting curls depending on my mood.I had a baby this past year and my postpartum shedding was out of control; my hair in general wasn’t doing great. Everyone told me I just had to wait it out and it’d eventually get better. After just one appointment with Todd, my hair quit shedding and was healthier than ever.When I want a trim, I get just that... a trim. He only trims it when absolutely necessary, as he knows I’m trying to grow it out.My hair is longer and healthier than it has been since I was a child and I owe that to Todd! I highly recommend.My mom now uses Todd as her stylist as well after a bad experience with her last stylist and witnessing the way he transformed my hair.His prices are more than fair for the quality of service. I can’t imagine going to a different stylist.

This is an awesome salon in downtown Minneapolis. They cater to all hair types, natural, relaxed and permed. They have two nail technicians as well. I felt welcomed and appreciated for my business. The receptionist took my coat and offered water,juice, tea or coffee. Great experience.

My entire family has so much love for this shop, but we are forever thankful and grateful to Todd especially. I have been one of Todd’s clients for the last 12 years and would not think of trusting anyone else with my hair or my families hair. I’m biracial so finding someone who has experience in coloring, cutting and just taking care of my hair is very important to me and often hard to find. Brittany Linz hooked it up. She’s very educated and talented with naturally curly hair and got me together.

My daughter was having her very first salon appointment at another location not worthy to be named, and the entire event was a catastrophe. Before things could get further out of hand, I called VIP and they said I could bring my daughter immediately. They worked her in and gave her a wonderful first experience that we both will forever cherish.Note: My daughter is 12 and had never had her hair cut or trimmed. Todd, her stylist at VIP, took wonderful care of her and was very patient and kind. He didnt even make us feel bad about how tenderheaded that she is, and only told us how to take steps at home that would make it better.What the nice people at VIP didnt know is, Ive been struggling with my girls hair since we moved here from the south. Living in the Minnesota suburbs, finding good black hair care was near impossible and I was starting to fear that I was slipping as a good mom. They took such good care of us and made us feel so welcome, that I guaranteed them that myself, my 3 daughters, and my son, would be regular customers for as long as we live in MN. Awesome customer service I Love this place

This is my first time writing a review but this is just something I had to put out there. I frequent salons every 6 months or so since I’ve started my natural hair journey. I was scheduled with Todd and never in my life was I handled in a way where I felt like the hairdresser just wanted my money than I did when I went there yesterday. First, he was so rough I felt like my hair was going to rip from my scalp. He shampooed the top of my hair and barely conditioned it. He would brush out my curls extremely rough and only blow dried it out. I wanted it straight and silky mind you. I seen smoke on my hair and he would just spray heat protectant on my roots. My hair was barely straightened from the back that I now have to straighten it myself. It was definitely not worth the $50 he charged me but he had pictures of his 2 sons on his station so I didn’t care for the money. I am however very disappointed and it was the worst salon experience I had. He had the audacity to give me the stores business card with his number on it thinking he made a loyal customer out of me but I will never go back nor let him come anywhere near my head again. If I could give it 0 stars I would so take that 1 star as a (-1)

Got put with Todd because I was a few minutes late because I could not find parking. the stylist I was scheduled with said she did not receive my calls or texts because she doesn’t keep her phone on her. She started another client only five minutes into my appointment. I should have left after that ridiculousness. His station had seven years of dust piled on every thing it was filthy. His combs and brushes were dirty. I requested he use a clean comb and brush on my hair. He agreed. He ripped through my hair. Did not comb it and ripped through it with appeared to be the same dirty comb and brush. He ripped through my hair again after the supposed deep one second conditioning causing tears and damage while drying it. The cut was good he did not fully finish flat ironing it the edges were unfinished it was half way done. He did not line up my edges as he stated he would in the beginning. Then without a word he walked away from the chair when he felt he was done. My hair was in worse condition after the cut than before. Except now the whole strands and ends of my hair are damaged because of what he did. Not sure if he ever went to cosmetology school based on his performance. How he got licensed to work in a hair salon is beyond me . Apparently they don’t conduct health inspections on that plAce either because his station was beyond filthy. I will never go back there.

Joy was very attentive and passionate about her work. She explained each step of the process and made sure that I knew exactly what was going on. She took note of my concern with asian hair becoming brassy over time, and took steps to prevent that. She is very knowledgeable, sweet, and talented. I highly recommend her!

Fair prices and great service

This is the best place in the Twin Cities to get dreadlocks or any dreadlock maintainance done. I have been going to Trisha for more than 5 years. She and the staff around her have always made me feel welcome and I always look forward to going back because they take care of their customers.

Probably the absolute worse place I’ve ever gone to. I never even write these but I had to because I’m that upset. I’m not from here so I decided to go somewhere new. The atomosphere of the place is super nice. It’s really clean and well decorated. The person who did my hair was terrible. I came to have my hair deep conditioned and straightened. The deep condition was maybe 3 minutes long and he barely washed my hair. Then when he went to blow dry it, he didn’t even comb my hair out. He started ripping the blow drier through my hair and causing so much breakage. Then when he went to straighten my hair, he didn’t straighten the roots or edges at all. I don’t even know why I payed for such a terrible job. Def won’t be coming back

I am a VIP veteran - have been going to the salon for 19 years. I started with Kathy and when she moved away Todd has been my MAN for the past 17 years. VIP is family, everyone is professional and understands their clients needs. Todd is like my brother but when Im in HIS chair he is my stylist keeps me looking good ALL the time... I have referred many family members and friends to Todd and they all come away with great hair and a great experience. Thank God for Todd!

As a preface, I walked in without an appointment so I will ignore the 45 minutes of waiting when she only said 25 minutes. The consulting was alright some really good tips on natural hair styling and such.They were nice enough to take me but afterwards it took 3 hrs to actually do a wash and 2 large french twists on natural hair which is ridiculous. Most of the time in between was waiting (not in a dryer or anything). The stylist walked away a few times and talked to so many other people (not talking with customers) that I basically had to stare at her to get her to come back.When she was washing my hair she asked about allergies I say sulfides and tobacco. I even tell her the story of when I almost died finding out about the allergy. She proceeds to leave right after and take a smoke. Luckily, for her/me my allergy is weaker to burned tobacco and I am used to holding my breath because she could have send me to the hospital. Not professional, and really dangerous. Dont ask for information if you dont plan on using it.Overall the price was not worth the service and I would not return unless someone bribed me. My hair looks alright -nothing special like I wanted but I also wanted quicker it does not take 3 hrs to do this hairstyle on my head. It takes 1 hr to 1.5 hrs at most including juggling another patron. ( who was equally ignored and had an appointment) I would say I am dissatisfied. Maybe a different person takes less time, is more courteous and not life threatening but I would not return to find out.

I hate to do this because everyone here was so so so nice to me and they accepted me last minute as a walk in for a somewhat ‘hair emergency’. I posted my experience in much more detail on yelp but moral of the story i came here as a natural to get my hair pressed. I walked out 65 bucks later with the roots of my hair natural and the rest straight... 5 inches shorter (from a ‘trim’), and my hair was thinner from all the breakage with the blowdrying process. I came home washed my hair and im no longer a ‘natural’. I got such severe heat damage that my 5 year process of becoming a natural got completely destroyed. My hair is straight/wavy almost like i got a semi perm and after 3 washes i can still smell a chemical ish smell. Im so beyond devastated there are no words for it. In the blink of an eye my curls are gone. Im basically starting my natural process all over again.

The colors were platinum blonde and cooper red. she processed my hair with these two colors and the end result to platinum blonde wasnt to my liking because it was more gold than blonde. I immediately told her I didnt like it. She went to say I can come back in 2-3 weeks to lift the gold to platinum. three weeks had passed and I didnt her from her so I decided to reach out via text but no response. so I waited about a two weeks and then I called her now by this time its the end of September. I was able to reach her but she was out of town for personal reasons said she would give me a call once shes back in Minnesota. Now its November and I still havent heard back from her. This was a horrible experience and I wouldnt recommend nobody to her. Im a customer, the person who pays you and build your clientele and I didnt deserve this at all.

Gorgeous shop, and the staff was friendly. Todd gave me a layered afrobob that was fully styled. He carefully detangled and wet cut my hair taking my shrinkage into consideration. I came out with exactly the hair style I wanted. I already scheduled my next apppointment in May.

The owner of this shop really needs to check their employees work. Brought my wife to this place for the first time and she left with chemical burns, of course money was refunded but the point is chemical burns. To be a shop of your caliber.... REALLY.... Never the less,,, The hairs on my wifes head are numbered by God and shall be restored. On the other hand be careful, she was a former cosmetologist, Author and a Pastor.... I have been here a few times for hair cuts mainly. I didnt get that great of a cut by Todd W. but the last time I went he put some cheap color in my hair and it took my hair out. I am balding in areas. It dried my hair out badly and the hair cut was the worst. I wont be back. The shop was clean which is a plus since I have been in a few shops that should be closed down due to the filth. Todd you jacked me up!

I am very appalled with their services !! They do not alert you that you have to make an appointment to get nails done and they absolutely dont do walk ins . This is why black businesses fail. If it was a Chinese business they would take walk-ins, if it was a white business they would take walk ins . BUT NO IT JUST HAD TO BE THE BLACK BUSINESSES THAT ARE UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNWILLING TO EXCEPT MONEY by not excepting walk-ins. If thier was a negative button I would give this place a -10.

Vip quality of stylest have really declined. They use to be high quality and have high standerds. The last time I sat in the chair I was very disapointed with my style I could also see some other stylest who where just as bad. Tiffany needs to get better stylest ones that match her flow she is a wonderful stylist such a nice person. Marsha and Jenny are also good such nice people as well you would love sitting in there chair. Book them and avoid the headck of styles that don last and people that just take your money just because.what happen to her old stylist?????if it ant broke dont fix it.

Thought I had a scheduled appointment but when I went in they told me that they had no record of my appointment even when I called and scheduled the day before 💁🏽 and dude told me I dont know what to tell you seriously? Thats all you can say ? . Wouldnt Recommend To anybody
