Other than a little patch in back, the haircut was pretty good, but I found Rochelle (I think that was her name) pretty judgmental. I’m a woman with very short hair, and I’ve never had a problem with that at any other barbershop or salon until now. She seemed annoyed that I wanted a haircut that would still look alright without hair product, annoyed that I had such short hair, and annoyed that I didn’t wear makeup. It was a fine enough haircut, just not a particularly good experience.

My experience was really bad there. I came in with long hair and the woman Elise completely buzzed it all off and I came out looking like a five year old. Also when I was walking on State St. I was getting really weird looks from the public.Some of them even started to laugh at me or even giggle. Do not go to this place at all. If you do, do not have Elise cut your hair if you are a guy. You will come out looking like a little kid and the complete opposite than what you asked for.

Do NOT go to Jeimi.I had a color and a cut service with Jeimi on Friday the 25th of 2018 at the Madison location. She did great with the cut. The color is a different story.We went for a bleach and I was told it may take more than one process to complete, which I understood. After the first process was complete, Im quoting Jeimi here, It looks really good. I love it. I too, quickly agreed because well, it did look nice, from the FRONT. She didnt show me the back of my hair, and I didnt ask because I trusted her judgement.She said with one process it looked great, but if I want to go for a second process, shell gladly assist with that. But the thing is, she already said it looked pretty and great, so I then denied the second process because if it looked good already, why go for round two.All went well, I thanked her, paid and left. It was not until I got home that I checked the back of my hair. There were patches of orange along with blue and black, the blue and black were not noticeable because it was hidden under thick hair.I had a family gathering the next day and I couldnt go with uneven hair, so I had it fix. I do not wish to go back to a stylist who kept the truth about the patches and twisted it to be pretty. Im upset she let me walk out like that.We had exchanged numbers, so I texted her about the hair and me going for a fix at another salon. The fix costed me money, and so I kindly ask for some reimbursement from her. This would not have happened if she told me that I had awkward orange along with BLUE and black at the back of my hair. I would have stayed for a second round of bleach if that were the case.Because the patches looked so bad, I decided to cover it up by going for a light brown, but I couldnt even because the patches showed too much, therefore I had to settle for a darker brown.After I sent my text to Jeimi, I received unpleasant replies. Not even a bit sorry about the lie she told me, or rather... she COMPLETELY ignored the part where I wrote about HER telling me the first process was pretty already. Im an understanding person and I never wish to write this compliant, but the texts I received back was impolite (I do have them if anyone request of them). To top this off, I gave this Jeimi a $50 tip, yet she was impolite to the max. FIFTY DOLLARS!Update*********On a positive note, the owner refunded my money.

Staff was facing away from the door and were irritated when I had to ask if they were open so they’d even acknowledge my presence. Haircut was ~wildly~ uneven; I had to go to another salon to get it fixed.

Hannah and Jade are AMAZING! They always do a great job with my hair. Most of the other stylists Ive worked with are good as well, but do not go to Diane (or Diana, cant remember her name). Shes pretty new, but she really didnt seem like she knew what she was doing with my hair (i.e. I asked her to make my bangs thicker and she tried to give me a mushroom cut?). Shes a very nice woman, but I wasnt happy with my hair at the end of the day. Tipped her to be polite but wouldnt go to her again. Ill stick with Hannah or Jade.

The staff is nice but not super friendly. You will receive a fine haircut at a reasonable price. They are really willing to work with you in terms of what you want done with your hair just tell them. You get what you pay for and I would recommend it if your looking for a quick simple cut.

Im not one to complain or write reviews...but my experience here was so bad I had to do something. Worst hair experience I have ever been through. Went in to get my highlights touched up and a basic haircut. From the beginning, my stylist was nervous and several people were coming up to her giving her random tips and pointers. I asked her at the beginning if she colors hair often because I could tell she felt uneasy and unsure from the start, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. After 3 hours of foils, it was time to shampoo and she had no idea what toner or what shampoo to use. When my hair dried and I could finally see the color, it was absolutely nothing how i wanted. The color was hideous. Then came the haircut. I wanted just a trim and a couple additional layers. My hair was butchered. It looked like shelves on my hair, not blended at all...and I told her that. After I told her that, she just walked away in the back of the salon, and a minute later a different stylist walked up to my chair and started cutting my hair. Without saying a word where or why the other stylist just left. The new stylist fixed what she could from my hair, but the damage was hard to undo. I didnt say anything or complain at all when I was there, but when I went to pay, the manager gave me 50% off my haircut and 50% off my next haircut there (which I will never go back), because she knew how bad my hair was messed up. My original stylist never came out from the back and never said a word to me as to why she just walked away. Extremely unprofessional, and extremely disappointed with the service and my hair. Going to another salon this week to see if they can try and fix the color and cut at all. Strongly recommend to not ever go to this place if you are a girl looking for a decent haircut or color. Worst experience I have encountered. DO NOT GO HERE

Jessi is awesome, seriously shes so talented. Every time she does my hair it looks amazing and for $23 bucks its a steal. I cant speak for any of the other ladies because I havent had them but Im sure theyre all great. If you get a chance and request Jessi you wont be disappointed.

I have been to this place few times before with good impression and expectations each time. Unfortunately, I didnt even bother to ask the stylist name at all as there is no greetings me being a customer and that leaves a bad impression. As usual I try to keep comfortable zone between barbers as they can make you ugly and good. This stylist has no smile on her face and has very bad attitude. Not to mention usually they ask how are you doing just to bring a connection. She hadnt even say a word. I got a very negative impression but I couldnt leave the chair as she proceeded. My haircut was done in within 5-7 mins. I am utterly unimpressed how could someone just throw the machine and say youre done. I am not happy with my haircut although I said it is fine and gave her 22% tips. She is like Oh. I have to ask for hair wash and beard trimming was just a joke. Not going back now and will ask my friends not to go there as well.

The men’ haircut starts at $20 when I went there last time. The shop is clean and the haircut is decent at a fair price. They have comfy sofas and a tv for customers waiting. Someone can claim it provides the best value for money in the downtown campus area.However, Nogginz sticks out because its competitors are mediocre. The price of the haircut is constantly increasing ($17 to $20) while the quality of the haircuts (popular barbers left) is decreasing, overall. I hope they improve, so I can keep getting a decent haircut within the campus area.

I had an appointment at 10 am on a Saturday morning. I was super excited to get my hair cut and colored. The shop opens at 10:00, but they didnt unlock the doors until closer to 10:10. That was irritating because I could see the workers in the shop and it was FREEZING cold outside, but I let that slide.Once I got inside, they told me that someone had crossed my appointment off in the book. So I waited for 40 minutes. I didnt sit in the chair until 10:50.My stylist smelt like stale cigarettes and did not talk to me at all, only giving me countless magazines. She seemed to know what she was doing, but she was very rough. She pulled my hair, let the hair dye get in my eyes and on my face, left the hair dryer on my scalp so long it burned me, and would laugh to herself every once in a while... still not sure what that was about.My stylist also made me move out of her station so she could take other hair cuts. Thats right; I sat in the shampooing chairs for 40+ minutes while she gave other men haircuts.I arrived at Nogginz at 10 am and did not leave until 2:45 JUST FOR A COLOR. I wanted a cut, but I couldnt stand being there any longer.Although I am happy with the final product (besides not getting the cut I wanted) I will not go back again because of the poor customer service, the slow service, and the high price for the poor service.

Nogginz was recommended to me by a few people, so I decided to give it a try. I buzzed by hair very short with a fade about a month and a half ago, so I was just going in to get a trim and some shape added back, as it was starting to look the same length all over. I was seen immediately by Hannah, which was nice, but the second I sat down, I was covered in someone elses hair trimmings. I know salons have hair everywhere by nature, but it would be nice if the chairs were kept cleaner. I showed her a picture of how I wanted it to look and described my needs, but she seems to have ignored both; all she really did was make it shorter. Sure, the sides are shorter than the top, but barely, and theres little to no shaping. I mentioned that its important to me that, which such short hair, the cut still looks very soft and feminine, but she pretty much cut my hair like a little boy. It really felt like a rush job. Dont think Im willing to give the place a second chance, with another stylist.

Disappointed in Hannah’s friendliness and skills today. Didn’t ask me one personal question, we sat there in silence the whole time. She did a poor job cutting my hair. Was supposed to be a fun experience, cutting 4 inches off of my hair but it was not. My hair was choppy and had blunt lines that I had to ask her to fix. She did, but not happily. I’ve always had mediocre or good experiences there, so for the price I continue to go back. Never again!

I go to Nogginz every week for a haircut. I prefer to keep it clean up top and the best person to go to for that is Jeimi! There are many options around town to get a haircut, but I always return to Jeimi at Nogginz. Shes understands what I want, she executes every time, and above all else shes fun and knows how to connect. If you want a great cut and a great experience, find the person at Nogginz that understands you and what you like and stick with that person!

I have only had great experiences here. I always make an appointment ahead of time with Jeimi, who has been cutting and coloring my hair (various colors: red, black stripes, blue, blond streaks, etc.) for about 4-5 years now. Ive followed her as shes changed locations and I will keep following her unless she leaves the state. She loves experimenting with new and different color combinations and I always feel better about myself when I leave versus when I came in. On top of that, shes very fun to talk to. We have a lot of interests in common and have fun chatting about movies and all things horror while my color is setting. Jeimi, you are so great.

The short: you will get the best haircut for your money in the Downtown Madison Area here.The long: Nogginz is a great salon for what it is; a mid-price, walk-in welcome, full service salon for locals and the transient student population alike. This salon has a number of stylists who are all extremely proficient and who will follow your instructions (the mistake many who have ranked this place lower seems to be that they were not specific - the stylist cannot give a person what they do not know said person wants). Be specific, and youll be happy with your new do.Additionally, the waiting area is nice, and the wait itself is not long. The staff are friendly, and the entire place quite clean.Overall a very good experience and a good fit for anyone whose needs arent ridiculously high-maintenance (relative to high-end and MUCH higher-cost salons).

Luck of the draw - I got a weirdly bad stylist at my visit today. The apron she gave me was too short and all of the cords on her equipment were too short to reach around me so she had to turn me around and around. I am a normal sized college guy, six feet tall. It gave the impression she wasnt willing to invest back into her craft & equipment. At the end, the price was $20 (instead of 14-16 for a normal guys haircut like I have had many times here before) and she gave some BS reason about using multiple guards. It would have been nice if she asked if that was okay before just doing it! If you go here, be assertive, or find someone you like and only see that one person...

It is waaay shorter than I had asked for and I wanted a bob but what I got was the complete opposite of a bob. It shorter in the front and longer it the back. Not what I wanted but with that aside there is also a lot of uneven layers in my hair now. And when I go home there was a chunk of hair the stylist had missed and I cut it myself so that it had some semblance of being even, I will not be going back and now have to go to a different salon and pay more money to have them fix it and I have to lose more length now as well. For mens haircuts Im sure there fine but for longer haircuts I suggest not going here its a waste of money.

There are plenty of walk in appointments available most days, but if you find a stylist you like (mines Jayd), you can still make appointments in advance. Ive been coming here for 2 years and love that they take my words into consideration and offer helpful advice about my hair.

I had a great haircut experience! I was a little nervous because of some of these reviews, but I needed something done for a good price. Despite being incredibly busy, they got me in quickly. Hannah was wonderful and was careful to work with me on what I wanted and what would work best to fit my needs.The shop itself is very clean and comfortable. The waitingroom was nice and they had wifi. I definitely plan to go back.

Its an awesome place to just walk in and out and not have to wait hours for a stylist or even set up an appointment. Been going there for almost a year and have no plans on looking elsewhere.

I’m a man with curly hair, I told her short on the sides and curls on top, I received a cut similar to a buzz cut or of a prison inmate. I would not recommend this to my enemy. $24 and no hair later and I am sad. I would’ve rather attempted to cut my hair with rusty scissors, looking into my reflection.... in a muddy puddle

I went in to get a haircut, I had pretty long hair at the time and was looking to get it shortened a good amount. When I first talked to the barber she said, I hope youre going short cause I dont really cut long hair, Im more of a barber. I shouldve left right then and there but had been waiting for 20 minutes already. When asked what to do with my hair I said Id like it shorter on the sides and longer on top, specifically saying that I did not want it buzzed on the sides. Next thing I know she buzzed the sides of my head and around the back at a 3, which is awfully short. She then left a circle of longer hair on the top of my head. This is easily the worst hair cut I have ever had, maybe if they would take their time when giving hair cuts they would turn out better.

Normally this place is fine (like 3 star quality) but i just got a haircut that is nothing like the photo or my description of what i wanted. i wanted the bottom of the back and the sides trimmed up because Im trying to grow it all out and dont want a mullet, but the girl cut the back SO short that its going to take months for the top part to grow back out. and it doesnt even look particularly good. but it was only $10 so i guess you get what you pay for. my own fault for being impatient and not wanting to wait to schedule an appointment at thorps.

Another Madison institution since 2002! I mbed downtown recently, and needed a new stylist. One of the owners, Kobe, took great care of me. He did a great consultation, and when he finished, I left with the best haircut that I have ever had! He even trimmed my beard, moustache and eyebrows, all for $20 plus tip. This was a w ol9lllnderful experience! I highly recommend them.

I had my haircut today and asked for a fade and a shape up but it disappoint me coz its not really a fade i got and a shape up. She just used clippers for shaping up and all. And only took atleast 6min in total and the haircut i got is the worse.

I wish I could give this place a negative stars. I went in with long hair and asked for a trim and to maintain the layers. Elise was my stylist. I asked if she could cut curly well, she said yes with no hesitation. WHY did I walk out of there with hair that looked more like a 5 year old had taken scissors to my head than a supposed professional?? I left with moist hair, but by the time I arrived at my next destination it was clear how HORRIBLE my hair looked. There was no way that it couldve passed for anything but the worst haircut of my life. I was forced to go in the next morning and receive a corrective cut by Nicole, their manager. Nicole took 2 hours on my hair while she defended Elises awful cut job saying that [my] hair was next-level curly as if that was alright to say after Elise had butcherd my gorgeous hair into a birds nest. Nicole also cut my hair too short in the front and completely uneven in the back. as a 12 year + veteran of haircutting perhaps another profession shouldve been sought out years prior. I dont know what their hiring process is, but I received 2 AWFUL CUTS here, and while in the waiting room there was another gentlemen waiting to get his hair fixed from a previous cut there. His hair looked awful too. SERIOUSLY WORST CUTTING EVER. Go here if youd like an afforable butchering.

I had an awkward experience, the girl who worked with me has poor communication skills, when she wanted me to get up from the washing station, she (literally) yanked my hair to get up, instead of communicating with the customer, “ok we’re done here, please follow me,”. Then when I was done, their manager who looked like was on crack, started to giggle in the back room, was it because of the terrible cut I ended up with? It’s not the same anymore. Sad!

Shes always treated me well and like family. Ive went through my fratty short-cut looks to having a man-bun undercut to having a sophisticated front flip with a squared off neck. If youre looking for a quality cut that fits the budget and a fun hair stylist to do it...two names, Nogginz and Jayd (Will cut upon request and is a stylist I highly recommend.)

When I first moved to Madison, I had no idea which salon to go to. I had seen Nogginz on State Street before, and thought I would give it a try. I have brown hair and wanted to go more blonde and also get a hair cut. Jessi is the girl that treated my hair. She did such a great job! the blonde was blended so beautifully, it looked natural and yet still very blonde. She was great with giving insight. She even persuaded me to go for foils instead of coloring my whole head. The haircut was also cut just the way I wanted it! I couldnt be happier! Nogginz is now my go-to as far as salons are concerned.

I have been going only to Nogginz hair salon for the last 3 years and have always been amazed by the results i recieve from their stylists. Jayd in particular is my stylist of choice, Amandas my second go to, she always is so personal in her work and shows her passion for the art through every cut she makes. I currently have a female cousin visiting me for the week and while here she wanted to get a haircut. She asked if anyone at Nogginz could work with curly hair and one of the hairdressers said she had experience. The process ended up taking two hours just to have the hair my cousin had been growing out for three years messed up beyond repair; the layers were not probably done, it ended up with more volume, and it looked extremely messy. My cousin came back to my place in tears because of this. She went back in today to have it fixed by the manager who only made excuses for her hairdresser. My cousin came in with beautiful long hair and ended up with a very short haircut to rectify the damage. On top of that, the other hairdresser avoided my cousin completely without even taking the time to ask if she was okay. I tried to give this place a chance myself considering its location, but these people (besides the manager and owner) come off as amateurs. I refuse to give them any service now and advise anyone else looking for a decent haircut to venture out of State Street to find a better place.

Can i give zero stars. the short girl with the ridiculous haircut cut my hair (short mohawk dyed red). i think she forgets that she is the service industry. so rude to me from the beginning. i mean granted i said buzzcut and not descriptive with it but i dont know how to get more descriptive. but regardless about how naive my haircut request is im allowed to be naive as the costumer. however, her response was you are gunna to have to be more descriptive in the most irritated voice and the dirtiest look like she didnt want to be there. then she looked at me like im stupid and then proceeded to say, im hesitant to give you a buzz because i think you just got out of the dorms and your friend got this haircut and you thought it was cool so you just wanna copy him. im 21 years old and im getting the buzz for my haircut for my possible internship at the fbi, and i dont really buy into the dissing the freshmen because they are freshmen but on the college campus its suppose to be taken as an insult. if though i was not particularly offended it was still rude to even say that. what the hell called for that? nothing and even i was a freshmen why does that even matter, i cant make my own decisions without her questioning me and making me feel stupid for as simple as a thing as cutting my hair. then while she half-assed buzzed my hair while jerking my head snidely questioned, why are you gunna work for the fbi. i should of left without paying but im not a jerk. so i spent an expensive amount for a horrible buzzcut (it could have been styled better) and being treated like i was not good enough to get my hair cut there. sorry about the horrible grammar but i was completely disrespected.
