Hands down one of the best places weve eaten at in Lincoln. I was talked into their beef wellington which was their Saturday night special. Ive never had one before but the layers of textures and flavors present were fantastic. My wife and her mother had a mixed grill entree and my father in law had the sirloin. The steaks were fantastic and vegetables were excellent. They dont skimp on portion sizes either, beware asking for a side salad if you arent really hungry. No complaints about the food at all. The table was a little wobbly but that is honestly the only thing I can nit pick on. Our server reported it to her manager and theyre going to be fixing it tonight. No requirement for a reservation but is available for peak hours. An absolute must if youre wanting good food and great atmosphere.

Visited in late July 2021. Excellent service. Fair prices. I started with the beignet appetizer and it was excellent. I ordered the filet and it was great. It has a laid back/steakhouse type vibe. I would return.

Came here for our anniversary and we called around Lincoln looking exclusively for Beef Wellingtons. Didnt even think a restaurant was making them, as they are a novelty. Low and behold the Green Gateau is currently doing a limited run based on customer requests. This entree is worth every penny of the $29.00. The food and service is impeccable. The blonde serving us was fun, down to earth, and talked to us without being fake-posh. I know the waiters and waitresses will give off a high-end vibe (nothing against it at all) but our waiter knew her audience and leveled with us from the get go. All around knock out dinner.

Really loved it here. It’s such a quaint place, beautiful atmosphere. It’s cozy and I’d definitely have a first date here. The waitress was so nice and made sure everything was okay for us. The food was yummy, but I do admit they, like all other “fancy” places like to overdress their main courses with vegetables. Of course I don’t mind a side of veggies with my fish or steak but sometimes it’s a bit much. For example my cousin and I ordered the “steak and mushrooms” but surprisingly it didn’t really have any mushrooms and was showered with brussels sprouts. Way. Too. Much. Besides that everything else was perfect. Would love to come back and try the other dishes.

We had such a nice dinner here while visiting Lincoln. Service was excellent and very attentive even though the restaurant was busy. The food was superb. We had scallops Rockefeller cooked just right. The pot roast with mashed Yukon gold potatoes was one of the best I have had. My wife had the trout. All dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. Wine and beer list expansive. Prices were very affordable and portions were good size, would go back in a pinch to try some other items in their wonderful menu. Don’t miss this one when in Lincoln!

Also one of my favorite places! The orderves are terrific and delicious! Things you dont make at home! We had lunch and a wonderful variety of sandwiches and side dishes that are so unique!

Wonderful fine dining experience. We stopped here for dinner passing through on our way home from vacation. The food was superb, the service was stellar, and the prices were reasonable. We had the flight of soups and Brussels sprouts for appetizers. These were the best Brussels sprouts Ive ever tasted! And all the soups were delicious, but the french onion was my favorite. Our waitress, Haley, was great! Attentive, helpful, and prompt. I got the crab cake sandwiches which were the best Ive had outside of Maryland. My husband got the mixed grill, a waygu steak and salmon, both of which were delicious. Portion sizes were generous. I highly recommend this place. Only wish we lived closer. We took a slice of chocolate cake to go and it was awesome.

Exceptional experience! Mimosa is simply the best and the salmon croissant almost made me cry happy tears. Chosing between a hash brown and a potato pancake, go for a pancake - you wont regret it. Little tips for improvement: coffee couldve been a little bit stronger, water and cappuccino cups smell chlorine a bit. Server Ben is just amazing, probably best service experienced ever!

A unique (and even the best) experience among all upscale restaurants i’ve visited in US... I’ve been to more than 40 states but never enjoyed such a surprise night. No one can beat its price with the same food quality. It’s definitely Michelin level cuisine...We ordered chicken lavosh, coconut shrimp, cheese fondue, a huge tomahawk pork chop and dessert cake. Everything is perfect, and the vanilla cream soda is especially the best drink I’ve had...All those are just $50+ before tax! You can’t believe it at all...Who most surprised me is my hostess. I’m from China: After she knew that she helped us all the way in Chinese (She is a very kind and cute Nebraska girl)! She showed us very professional linguistic skills, not limited to the basic conversations but spoke as local Chinese guys...Oh my god. I even guess that she would have a graduate degree in Chinese study...All the way, 5 stars. Definitely. Thank you lovely guys!

If youre in to overpriced, over fluffed food, this might be right up your alley. However, its hard to get my kids to not eat biscuits and gravy. Mission accomplished. We couldnt come to a consensus on what the extra spices/ingredients were in the gravy but there was definitely white onions. And the biscuits? More like scones. They werent terrible, just not what youre expecting when ordering biscuits and gravy.

Fantastic Quiche! Lovely atmosphere, and our server, Hannah, was super sweet and did a great job. When I asked to substitute a side for my quiche, something green like spinach, she brought some delicious seared zucchini and yellow squash with cracked pepper, herbs, and tomato. Sooo good. Compliments to the chef.

Went for dessert. It was wonderful as usual.

Loved their Brussels sprouts with all the different sauces. My favorite was the orange marmalade. We sat on the patio with our dog which was great.

Tonight was the 1st time I was there! The staff took care of us and we did not have to wait long for anything. Food was AMAZING!! Fresh, hot and cooked to perfection!! I will be back! Oh dont forget the Tea was delicious as well!

Never disappointed when we come here. Definitely get the truffle fries and spinach dip for apps. My husband and I both had the Bacon Butter Filet tonight and its mouthwatering incredible. I believe our waiter tonight was Ben and he did a great job. As always well be back.

This place is very nice. It is more for couples than for family with kids. Prices are a bit higher than average but it is really worth it. They have an excellent wine list and a good choice of local beers (all in can). The food is amazing and worth every single buck. The staff is very polite but reserved - no big chit chat. Highly recommended for couples.

I came here with my family for a celebration of life for our late grandmother who’s funeral we attended that day. Our grandmother who was a Nebraskan native loved coming here in her younger years and we thought what a great way to honor her by going to one of her favorites however, it didn’t live up to the expectation. The portions for the appetizers were very small we ordered two orders of quac for a large group of people and it still wasn’t enough and Brussel sprouts which was very small prob for 2 people. The food was heavily seasoned and hard to eat cause of how salty it was, the meat was like jerky, and the fish was almost not edible. The carrot cake looked great but still no flavor again very small portion. On top of the food experience the service was terrible, our server left all of our plates including appetizer plates, and empty plates we even stacked them so that there would be more room and he never cleared the table while we were there.

Yum! My husband and I decided to try out the Green Gateau last week. It was quite good. Both our appetizer and meals were well prepared and presented. Our waiter, Ethan, was super friendly and attentive. Its a bit pricey but completely worth it!

The Reuben Sandwich was exceptional. The Brussel Sprouts, served with three amazing dips, were superb. The Bleu Cheese Potato Salad was, without a doubt, the best potato salad that Ive ever had in my life. I cant wait to try other menu items.

Met our kids for Sunday brunch and it certainly lived up to the reviews wed seen. Service and atmosphere were really good, food was exceptional. Theres good breakfast foods and then there are places like this that take it beyond good. I had the corned beef hash and it was just better in all ways than any Ive had before. My daughter has had french toast in a LOT of restaurants but said this was just better than others. The freshness and quality of ingredients combined with skilled preparation makes for 5 star food.

Amazing food at such a great price point. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice dinner. Good resteraunt to have a date, or just to have dinner with the family.

Excellent food prepared with care, very large menu (so hard to choose) and a good wine list! Ambiance and service are great too. The reason I am giving Green Gateau 4 stars is the following: the apricot Napoleon cake was a bit dry, the fries were overcooked/double-fried, and the ketchup has high fructose corn syrup. It is really easy to find natural/organic ketchup to complement the cheeseburger made with high quality local Nebraska meat that they serve. But overall liked the place very much.

Couldnt believe how rude the manager was to me when I asked him about job openings. Wow never been treated more like garbage.

First time Ive been here ordered the fish and chips, first time Ive had good fish thats not over cooked or greasy. Honestly only thing I could complain about is I didnt care for the drink I ordered but that was my fault because I didnt read what was in it. Amazing service and really fast and funny. Definitely will not be the last time I go, which is saying a lot because I avoid downtown like the plague!

Had an incredibly delicious Valentines dinner with my wife and friends. James was an awesome server who was professional and gave some recommendations. Restaurant is great for a relaxing dinner with quiet ambiance. I had the beef wellington and my wife had the salmon and both were amazing! Will definitely be back!

Awful from start to finish. Went here for our anniversary. Reserved a booth earlier in the day, when we got there they had missed the part about the booth. Sat us right next to the hosts that just stood there the whole night while their servers work rushing around. Had to listen to all their jokes about customers. Food was very bland and our appetizer came within 3 minutes of our main dishes. We paid and on our way out talked to the manager about the experience, he never even apologized just stood there with a blank expression. Sad to see a place like this go so downhill. Never coming back.

We went with a group without a reservation and they went out of their way to accommodate us on their patio though it wasnt officially open. Everyone enjoyed the food. As a treat we started with Beignets and are so glad we did! Service was good. So many great food options we will be back!

All look, very bland food, on top of feeling uncomfortable. The menu looks great, execution is not there, and portions sizes are huge. The croissant appeared and tasted store bought, and the salmon was not fresh. The potatoe pancake strangely tasted more like salmon than the actual salmon. The pickled onions were very very stale and sour. Overall, no flavor and the potatoe pancake, basically just hash browns, was not good (i.e., burnt and full of oil). I walked out with an upset stomach from all that oil and grease. Further, I would not consider this a French restaurant or anything close to it. The waitresses were great ( minus the man who served us who was frequently starring at me, and then ignoring me when it was time to pay, as if I could not afford it...). The food is not worth paying $86 for two people. I have had $20 meals for two much more flavorful than this. No thank you!

Best brunch in Lincoln. It gets busy on the weekends, so prepare to wait a bit if you dont have a reservation! The servers are always very personable and attentive, even when its busy.The coffee is great, the eggs Benedict is unbeatable, and the hash browns are too. Top off your meal with a delicious slice of the Green Gateau (cake) too; you wont regret it.

The food is always wonderful. However, I called in advance of going down there to ask if I needed a reservation for 2. I was told no and so proceeded to go for lunch. When we got there we were told 40 to 60 minute wait. The girl seating was very sweet and apologetic. A manager came up and inquired what was going on and explained that if the people that were answering the phone would have directed me to make a reservation when I called I would gladly made one but, now I am waiting 40 to 60mins. The manager was very smug and rude and fired a well sorry. And almost dismissed me. I did state to him that he didnt seem sorry and when people call they should advise.

Love the food just so disappointed in the staff and that should be part of the restaurant experience esp. with these prices. We waited 20 minutes, after we were seated to even be approached, while many staff walked by us several times. The hostess forgot to tell our waiter he had our table. Then waited another 20 minutes for the bill, waiter was busy with another table- again while several staff stood around and chatted. A lot of excuses!!!

I ordered to go and they told me 25 minutes. I got there in 35 minutes because they are always late. After I got there 35 minute they told me it would be another 25 minutes. That is a total of 60 minutes after I called, when they told me originally 25 minutes. If you are short staff, PAY YOUR StAFF MORE

First visit to The Green Gateau while we were staying the night on our way to Colorado. It was an excellent choice for dinner - delicious food, very attentive service by Nick. We were pleasantly surprised to find that is was restaurant week in Lincoln so we enjoyed a special of appetizers, entree and dessert Nick was our server and did a great job - he made a delicious guacomole tableside, that was fun. I had the calamari - excellent presentation. I tried the lobster fettuccine and it was delicious as well. She had a pasta dish and it was delicious as well. We finished with a couple of their signature desserts and sllice of Great Gateau and a Lemon cake. We enjoyed our visit, food was excellent, service was excellent - nice time. Enjoy your next visit, I know you will.

The Green Gateau is a favorite place for a nice elegantly casual dining experience. The minute I walk in, Im transported to a calm, easy place - and I like that. The food is always high quality and reasonably priced. The service is attentive but not intrusive. I had the crepes with a salad and added the red pepper soup -- delicious !!

Great breakfast. A good blend if standard basics and fancy choices. Youll want a reservation if its on a weekend breakfast/brunch or plan on a taking a walk over to the Capito or Haymarketl while you wait.

The huevos rancheros were to die for. My friend always gets the steak and eggs. It was pretty busy around 1130 on a Sunday. Waited 30 minutes. Service was very good too. Definitely recommend it. Tip: Dress up a little.

My husband and I went there for breakfast. Very friendly staff that answered all of our questions. I had a quiche that was a bit over cooked but it was still tasty. I do recommend to try the kiwi lemonade and the binette with lemon curd was delicious. Would love to go again.

Perfect evening! Our server, Megan, was a pro from start to finish. Her timing was impeccable and the food and wine were delicious. The Brussels Sprouts and Brie appetizers were perfect as well as the crisp salad. My tomahawk pork chop was moist and succulent as well as my friends entrees.

Great Valentines lunch experience. Only one criticism: some dishes carry way too many ingredients/flavors and the results are mixed. Other than that, I would highly recommend it.

Amazing customer service and excellent dining atmosphere! The food was also very good, especially the sauces, with the exception of the frog legs which were dry. The table side crème brûlée was our choice for dessert and it definitely did not dissapoint!

The food was amazing. The waitress was okay but not very personable. My daughter and I were finishing our dinner and a man came out of the kitchen and continued to stare at us, he even came to the front leaned on the podium sideways, crossed his feet and stared at us. Then he grabbed a dirty dish tub walked over sat it on the next table and started grabbing the dishes off of our table without even saying a word. This was the worst experience I have had ever. I told the waitress everything was great until that happened and her response as she was walking away was “ okay, I’ll let them know“ This made us very uncomfortable. Don’t think we will ever go back!

Pancakes, biscuits, and quiche were all dry and tasteless. Low-quality cheese on the eggs and hashbrowns. Underbaked beignets. Service was good and I liked the special mimosa. Overall, not worth the hype.

The Beef Wellington was absolutely out of this world. I can only assume Chef Ramsey would applaud the way this restaurant executed the dish.

I cant believe I waited so long to return here. I was last here in 1995. Regardless, today was 6 stars but there are only 5 available. If you enjoy food and youre in Lincoln, you must give this place a try. Service here is always so professional. The food is perfect every time. Our beignets where the best and the lemon curd was amazing! Expect about $20 per person out the door (includes a larger than you can eat breakfast, tea/coffee, and generous tip)...but what you get for the that $20 will bring you back again and again.

Great services and variety. For a fine dining experience at a very reasonably low price compared to many other restaurants. $29 for a 3-course meal is a super great deal and the desserts are superb! Cant choose one so I ended up with two desserts!

Rudest manager I have ever spoken to. Made a reservation and waited 45 minutes past the reservation for a table that was open when we arrived. We were told when we arrived that we couldnt stand near the entry because of COVID-19 restrictions, which I totally agree with and support. However, once offered a table, it was a table that was only minutes before closed for COVID-19 restrictions. What was a big deal for the hostess about not standing near the entrance for due to COVID-19 was suddenly no issue at all, as if COVID-19 ceased to exist in that moment. The seat they gave me was precisely in the very spot I was told I could not stand in. It seems the way to avoid contacting this disease is to sit, not stand. That being said, with a 35 degree wind blowing in, and being literally 4 inches from the door, we asked to wait for the next table opening. We didnt think it was an issue because the hostess asked if we wanted that table or another. Suddenly, a rather diminutive manager came up and told us if we didnt use that particular table that we would have to leave. I tried to ask a number of times if we could wait for a table to clear, but he would cut me off with each syllable from my mouth-- reminiscent of my friends middle-school boys who bicker constantly, egging each other on. I politely told him we would leave, and explainedhow rudehe was being to me. A woman sitting nearby, hearing how horribly we were being tallked to, offered us her table, which the manager reluctantly allowed. My companion and I walked outside to wait for the table to be bussed. About 2 minutes later, we spotted the smallish manager outside, peering from around the back of the building at us, like out of some strange slaughter movie. He stood there, motionless, looking at us, arms crossed leaning over in exaggerated form, as if to make sure we knew he was leering. Thus continued as we keptan eye on him for about 5 minutes when he suddenly and mysteriously, he disappeared. As we looked at each other and confirmed how bizarre this kid was, we started walking back to the door. It was then he re-emerged in the front of the restaurant, short of breath and opened the door for us. Creepy to say the least.We are sat at a totally different table for our dinner, all the while mindful as he would zip by in a panic over barware or napkins. We had the trout which was over cooked, no surprise being Nebraska, bland flavor, burre blanc was too acidic and the asparagus was cooked to beyond recognitiin. Croissant was a commercially available dinner-roll product just reeking of yeast extracts and malt, then rolled to look like a croissant shape with an egg wash. Baked brie still had the rinds attached and very little fruit under the pastry. The bottom pastry was not cooked at all. Luckily the meal ended up being free, and we tipped our waiter who apologized for the managers behavior and provided some perspective on an individual who was at least in that moment incapable of managing a restaurant that was hosting a wedding party at the same time providing dinner service. Ive traveled the world, dined with Morimoto, Bocuse (RIP), and Keller, been to Michelin rated restaurants and small mom and pop places from Europe and back, and I have never had such horrible service or been treated so dismissively by a resturanteur.We wondered if the manager was on some type of illicit drug because of how bizarre he acted. Being in law enforcement, we both asked each other if we thought methamphetamine use perhaps? Who really knows these days. I would not recommend the establishment at all based ou our experience.
