I attempted twice today to rent chairs and an umbrella. When I first approached the young man setting up chairs he told me to come back at 9:00; that he was too busy at that time. I thanked him and went on my way. At 9:00, I saw him just up the beach and I walked to his truck and spoke to him through his window. I inquired again about renting chairs and an umbrella. He told me that he would be right back, for me to wait there. I explained that I was staying at Hampton place and he said, oh, thats where Im going. I then walked down to the chairs in front of where I was staying and he proceeded to drive away. I understand about being busy, but do not advertise a service where individuals are not interested in making a sale. I have rented these services every time we have stayed here for the past 6 years, but I will never do so again.
Everyone keeps talking about chairs and umbrellas… I’m so confused. Yes it’s a nice commodity but isn’t the life guard supposed to watch the water and help keep the beaches safe. We are from NY where we purposely sit near a life guard just incase. They never take their eyes off the water. If you ask them a question they don’t look at you which is exactly how it should be. This is our second trip to HHI beach and the life guard is way more interested in selling chairs and umbrellas then life guarding. What is THAT about!!! Take off the red suit and put on a sales cap. Safety of the beach is NOT their first priority.
Negative experience - never renting again. We rent an umbrella/chairs every year for as long as we have been vacationing in Hilton Head. Long story short: one day we were on the beach next to a large group of people playing their music at an extremely loud level, to each their own they are on vacation as well, so we just moved our chairs, no big deal. Or so I thought. The next day I see the woman setting up chairs and kindly asked her if today she could set them up in a different area (mind you this was maybe a 50 yard difference) as we moved them the day prior and and gave the reason. She aggressively then proceeded to lecture me how she rode all over for 15 minutes looking for the chairs as she thought they were lost and that if we move them again to let someone know. Okay lesson learned, we had no idea we had to do that, no like we moved them off the beach or something. We saw where she set them which was right where the big group of people set up their things, we decided to move them to our desired location and then would give her a heads up so she knew where they were. As my husband was in the process of moving them, this woman speeds over like a bat out of hell and proceeds to yell at us ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS LET ME KNOW!? in which I told her we were going to after they were moved... Then proceeded to give us attitude about how she is liable for lost equipment, its part of her job then how our chairs werent near any others....well no kidding as this was before 8am. I tried to tell her we were going to inform her after we moved them, but this miserable woman clearly was too far gone. Feel sorry for her actually.I understand these workers are short staffed, overworked and dealing with a huge influx of vacationers has to be frustrating (clearly for this woman to be that miserable at 7:55 am) however as my husband and I both deal with the public every day for our occupations there is a certain level of professionalism that one must maintain while on the job especially towards clients/guests. I have never in my life been spoken to in the manner that we were spoken to let alone when I am on vacation paying over $250 + a TIP for services. Needless to say we called to cancel our rentals for the rest of the week, decided we would rather drag our own stuff down to the beach than be berated for moving a chair 50 yards. The manager (Mike) was very understanding and apologized for this womans behavior.Moral of the story: If you are going to rent the chairs go for it, its a great treat, but if you move them and dont tell anyone be ready for a scolding from Beach Chair Patrol Karen.
Sunday, July 17th, my husband was stung by a stingray in shallow water on North Forest Beach. We’d like to thank the lifeguards, Amanda and Aaron, for their prompt and professional response. They knew exactly what stung him and got working right away to ensure a healthy recovery. A shout out also goes to all the backup crew called in, including lifeguards, EMTs, and the ambulance crew.Because of their knowledge and quick response my husband got the proper care immediately, leading to a quick recovery. We enjoyed a 10 mile bike ride today so I’d say he is on the mend.
Hilton head does not need to sell drinks and containers 10 feet away from shore that inevitably end up in the ocean. this beach has trash and plastic, nets, broken beach toys and dead jelly fish everywhere. madness
Services were nice we were able to make arrangements prior to arriving at the beach.
Very nice kid had my rentals ready for me and was happy to secure my umbrella a few more time throughout the day as it was very windy! I actually watched him help out several other beach goers with their umbrellas, even though they weren’t part of the rentals. That was nice to see as there was nothing in it for him. My daughter was stung my a jellyfish one day and the lifeguard was very good to her, helpful with follow up care at home should be. Great experience.
I called to inquire about renting an umbrella and chair for my family. The man on the phone was so nice and helpful and told me to find one of the lifeguards. I saw the lifeguard putting reserved names on the chairs, so I asked him. He brushed me off and told me he didn’t open until 9. Ok, so I waited. He came back to me at 915 and rented me an umbrella and chair. Afterwards, I heard him talking to someone behind me saying and cursing, “I’m a f’n lifeguard and I’m not a f’n chair guy”. Fine, I get It. No need for 4 letter words on a family beach. What this young man doesn’t understand is that just because we hold one title, sometimes we wear many hats. I’m a nurse and my job requires me doing whatever the patient needs including wiping butts, even though we have patient care technicians for that. Bottom line, do your job.
Love that rhe chairs are already set up for you. Great proximity to both the water and showers. Great service. Very food value for the money. Less than $35 for the day is a wonderful price.
Best lifeguard service I’ve seen. Especially Ashleigh and Zach and Rachel and Sarah. Top notch
Had Sarah as my lifeguard and she was the BEST and most kind lifeguard I have ever met! Had a wonderful day at Coligny beach, and felt very safe!
If you want a RUDE lifeguard, come here! We arrived around ~9:15am in the morning and were told over the phone to report to the lifeguard stand right off the blue matts to inquire about the chairs and umbrellas that we rented. SARAH was immediately rude to us and actually ignored us as we were speaking to her. I have never seen such a face that was so disgusted to help someone. Thankfully, her co-worker was able to help us. I 100% would not trust her to save my life as she would most likely give me an attitude about doing her job.
My family and I have been riding around in my electric scooters at the beginning of the month and this week on the beach and none of the Shore Beach Service workers have said anything about us riding a 2 wheeled electric scooter on the beach. We have in fact been just cruising around just as fast as a person walking. Not until this morning when a shore Beach service employee approached us in his truck mentioning we cannot ride an electric scooter on the beach. I advised him that we have been riding the electric scooters since the beginning of the month and the past serveral days. We were right in front of a few workers for Shore Beach but no one batted an eye. Thats good and all when you make up rules to accommodate yourself and your team saying its a safety or legal issue Theres no sign posted electric scooters not allowed. However, they will allow electric bikes that are 3 times faster and 3 times bigger than our scooters and say those are a grey area. To their excuse they cant distinguish from a regular bike to an electric bike. That may almost be true but those bikes are neon green, with a fairly large battery pack and traveling faster than most bikes on the beach. May I note that they will allow Electric wheel chairs and electric scooters for disabled people. For the sake of them just not wanting electric scooters but allow Electric bikes bc they said so, is none other than an assinine answer. I did take the liberty of calling in to speak to a manager by the name of Mike and his canned response was the same as this one worker and will not allow Electric scooters but will allow other electric vehicles on the beach and their own vehicles to ride. Its a shame companies that hire people that dont have common sense to think an electric scooter is going to hurt someone more than a car, an electric bike, a regular bicycle, or even anything else that is a vehicle on the beach. Electric bikes that are allowed are 3 times faster and bigger. Theyve allowed them to be ridden for the past several years Ive been here. As a family, we are completely dissatisfied with the responses and how this was handled. This is the main reason we didnt and will not rent from Shore Beach Services again.Customer=No Service@shorebeachservice#shorebeachservice
Every year wev stay at Barrington arms and our life guard is so very gracious and kind. Answers questions about the wildlife and throughout takes care of his post and his patrons.
My husband reserved 2 chairs and an umbrella the evening prior. When we came down the next day around lunch, our rental was not set up and the employee was out to lunch. I called the company and was placed on a long hold so I called again. I spoke to a guy named Jerry and he stated that he was trying to reach whoever that was on lunch. I had to request for someone, anyone to come set up the rental for us because we had been waiting for awhile already. We waited 30-40 mins. for rentals that should have already been set up for us. When I asked the employee what happened, he stated something happened with the paperwork that he turned in last night. This company needs to put better procedures in place to accommodate their customers. Im on vacation and I shouldnt have to wait this long for rentals I already paid for. They didnt have a problem taking my money last night...but there sure was a problem with setting up my rental today.
Great company. Great lifegaurds
I had a great experience recently when my family had a medical emergency with Taylor. She was confident, assessed the wound, communicated with me how she could help, provided transport and had supplies. Emergency backup was called and took 30 minutes at least for lifeguard to arrive. So In the meantime, I applied pressure, kept family member calm, and wrapped with clean shirt. Thankful she could help us.Please keep informing community of your services and keep first aid up to date for beach goers.
We always get the 5-6 consecutive day rental for two beach chairs and umbrella while staying at the Breakers. The life guards always take very good care of us and have our items set up early everyday. No worries. Just come to the beach and settle in. Well worth the money spent.
**FRAUD** Gave my CC information for two chair rentals and was fraudulently charged $82 for pizza the next day. Reported. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR CC INFORMATION. Lesson learned.
We rented chairs and umbrellas for a week. They were put out on time, however the quality was poor - lots of wear & tear and the chairs were starting to break down. Tyler was our lifeguard and was inconsiderate of personal property and incompetent about risks in the ocean. A yellow flag indicates jellyfish, every beach-goer who asked Tyler what the yellow flag meant he said it was the surf (the waves were less than a foot). My wife got a bad jellyfish sting - Tyler underestimated the sting and told us to rub wet sand on it. The sting covered most of her leg from the knee down and he thought it was from a Lions Mane jellyfish, which cant even survive in the warm waters off HHI. While seeking medical attention, I left a $100 speaker attached to our rented umbrella. Tyler put my speaker with someone elses possessions and left it out on the beach, despite him knowing that we had reserved those seats three more days and would be back. I never got that speaker back. Tip for beach-goers:Dont trust a guy with a video game emblem tattooed on his chest with your safety or property.
These folks work hard in the hot sun all day, every day to help keep the beach goers at Hilton Head island safe. Great job you guys and thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
Disappointed at the time it took to get a rental. We waited an hour and half for someone with a rude, snappy attitude to bring chairs and an umbrella.
First time visiting HHI and decided to rent outside of our hotel, Hilton Ocean Oak. Wolfgang was our setup person everyday we rented and was friendly and kind.
Nice
