We went on the three hour Boomerang fishing charter today and it was AWESOME! Captain Jennifer and her crew Jack were great - they answered all our crazy questions, were very informative and made us feel welcome on the boat - we all enjoyed our conversations throughout the trip. The boomerang is a great boat - clean, lots of seating, and has a bathroom. We stayed in the waterways between islands so the water was calm. We saw dolphins on our ride out to the fishing spot. We took turns reeling in when we got a bite and boy did we get the bites! We caught a bunch of sharks! Four different species of sharks - hammerhead, bonnethead, fine tooth and black tip! It was the highlight of our wonderful week in Hilton Head. I highly recommend fishing on the boomerang! Thank you for a wonderful adventure Drifter Excursions! We can’t wait to come back again!
My family of four went out fishing on the Drifter and had a fun day out on the water. We went on the 4.5 hour trip and caught a lot of small sea bass, a few whiting and my son caught a bonnet head shark. We had a great time and I recommend this trip for anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive way to get out on the water and go fishing.
Family friendly fishing experience! My twin eight year old boys wanted to go fishing while we were in Hilton Head but we wanted a trip that wasnt too long where they would lose interest. We went out on a three hour trip on the Hobo with Captain Jennifer and had a great time. The three hour trip was just the right amount of time to hold their interest. We saw dolphins while we were riding out which was very exciting for the boys. When we started fishing we immediately caught a few Whiting and the boys even reeled in a couple of crabs! The fishing slowed down for a little bit in the middle of the trip and Captain Jennifer explained to the boys that it was because the tide was changing and that it should pick up again soon and she was right. As soon as the tide changed we caught a few more small fish and then just before it was time to head back the boys reeled in a small Bull shark! They were so excited! We had a great time on the Hobo and will be back next year! Thank you Captain Jennifer!
We went fishing on the boomerang with Jennifer and her nephew jack as the first mate, they told us lots of interesting stories going on in the area and we sure did catch a lot of sharks
My family and I went out fishing on the Drifter and had a great time. We went out about four miles out in the ocean to an area they called the rock pile. We caught several Black Sea bass and my son was lucky enough to catch a three foot shark that put up a great fight. The crew was super nice and the mate was very helpful. Thank you and we will see you next year!
The crew acted annoyed before we even got on the boat (0800). I recommend if you want to catch anything in the ocean, do a private charter. They know where the fish are. We spent more time circling around doing nothing than actually fishing.
A memorable day on the water! My husband, son and I went out on the ocean for the first time on the Drifter. The crew was friendly and helpful, the boat was clean and we caught fish! We caught Black Sea Bass and a couple of Weakfish. There were a few sharks caught on the boat and though we werent lucky enough to reel one in, my son really enjoyed seeing them. We had a great time!
Worst experience ever. Spent almost the entire time driving to and from the fishing location. We had probably 40 people on the boat nobody on the boat caught anything that we could keep. The captain’s mate was nice and helpful but the captain didn’t do anything.
My husband and I took the 4.5 hour deep sea fishing trip. Needless to say it was not worth the money at all. You go 1.5 hours out which is no fishing and they moved 3 times and only let us fish for total of 1.5 hours then had to leave. So basically it was a scenic ride. 22 people on the boat and no one got to bring any fish home and only a handful of fish caught.
We spent our Spring Beak on Hilton Head this year after missing our trip last year and our fishing trip aboard the Hobo was the highlight of our trip. My entire family (three generations) went out on a three hour trip with Captain Jennifer after we met another family at the beach that recommended her. We motored out of Broad Creek to Caliboge Sound to a place she called the rip. We dropped lines and within a few minutes we were catching some Whiting. My daughter had never caught a fish before and she was thrilled. After fishing this spot for a half hour or so, Captain Jennifer said it was time to move to a deeper hole because the tide was slowing down and we were going to try for a shark. After dropping the lines down, we waited about 10 minutes before we hooked our first shark. My 9 year old son needed a little help because this fish was much larger than what we had previously caught. We got the shark up to the surface and Captain Jennifer pulled the monster aboard. It was a three foot Bonnethead shark! My son was grinning from ear to ear! We dropped the lines down again hoping for one more before we had to head back and as luck would have it, my daughter was able to reel in a two foot Bull shark! If you are looking for a family friendly fishing trip in calm waters with a nice captain, I highly recommend the Hobo and Captain Jennifer!
Jennifer and Jack were awesome. As a group of 6 we caught at least 20 fish and had a great time to boot. Highly recommend - you won’t go wrong! 👍👍👍👍👍
Captain is helpful and a nice guy, as is the first mate. That said, the 4.5 hour excursion ended up being 3 hours of boat ride to and from fishing grounds and 1.5 hours fishing for nearly 140 bucks for my wife and I.
Trash! 4 and half hours? Yea thats a joke, we maybe fished for a total of an hour. Waste of money would love to get that back. Total scam.
More of a boat ride, never have fished in 10ft of water off a head boat, 18 fishermen few small fish,no keepers, save your money
Disappointing experience on the Hobo.We had 2 families (total of 9) that wanted to go on a fishing excursion, one family of 3 being experienced fisherman (fresh and salt water) and the other 6 being newbies to fishing. We arrived at the pier where the Hobo was docked and had a quick chat with a family that just completed their trip. We asked how they did, and the reply was less than enthusiastic. They stated that they caught only 1 fish and that they left the rest of the fish in the ocean and hoped we would catch them and do better. This should have been a red flag that not one smile on the entire party’s face. They actually seemed relieved that their trip was over. This is not the reaction that I had seen from any other charter that we took in the past. I was always grinning ear-to-ear when I got off a boat because we saw how hard the crew worked to get us fish.As our party boarded, we quickly noticed that there were only 5 rods and 9 of us. I thought to myself and glanced at my wife, this is not going to be good, not everyone is going to be fishing. We were hoping for the best and put on our happy faces to the other family. We all got situated and my wife and I sat near Captain Jennifer to engage her in conversation as to the experience level of the passengers. We explained that we were fisherman and have been on many other charters in the past in many different parts of the world. Our mission was to get into the fish and let the other family and their kids hook some fish before we took a try (again, since there only 5 rods). She made great small talk but that was about the only thing that was great. We took the “boat ride” to the spot where there was supposed to be whiting. Captain Jennifer stated that the previous group did pretty well (we knew otherwise but let her continue on), but as we all know, fisherman tend to stretch the truth a bit. We got to the location of where the fish were and dropped anchor and baited up. The other family were first on the rods. Again, the other family were all newbies and there was nearly no instruction on how to operate a spinning reel, how to set the hook, what to look for, etc. It was like - here is the rod, you figure it out.My wife and I quickly noticed this and started working with our friends to help them get familiar with the equipment and what to look for. Not too long into the trip, they started getting tugs but could not set the hook. Maybe this was because they were crabs that were at the other end of the line. One of the crabs managed to show itself but released as it breached the water. We continued in this spot for another 45 minutes with zero whiting (or any other fish) in the boat. So here we are, 6 newbies - 4 rods (the 5th was set up for shark but was manned by Cpt Jennifer at the back of the boat and only used on the first leg of the trip) and no fish.We had a chat with Cpt Jennifer to see if there was another location where the fish may be. We went off for another “boat ride” which took another 20 minutes off the clock. We got situated and again dropped anchor, but only had a few strikes. 4 rods in the water - 1 in the holder put away for the day and 9 unhappy people. We did actually manage to land a small whiting (8”-10”) but that was it for the excitement. We spent a few more minutes in that location, but nothing landed. We pulled anchor and took our last “boat ride” back to the dock. As everyone was exiting the boat, my wife handed the tip to Cpt Jennifer. I had no idea that my wife gave a full 20% tip and we had chat about that later. I know that Cpt Jennifer can’t control the weather or whether the fish bite or not, but she can control how hard they try to put their clients on fish. I just didn’t see that the effort was there. She seemed to be satisfied with just taking us for a “boat ride”. If I had the money in my pocket, I would have only given her a small tip just to make my point.All-in-all, this was a very disappointing experience and a very expensive “boat ride”.
Jennifer of Drifter Excursions took my family on a shark fishing expedition and my seven year old granddaughter had the best experience of her two week Hilton Head vacation! We caught several sharks, including a hammerhead, and released them all after taking the appropriate photos! It was a great experience and I wholeheartedly recommend Drifter Excursions. Well be taking trips with them in the future!
Pretty bad experience, we stayed in the boat for about 5 hours, and only 4 fish were caught in total whenever we were more than 20 people, and you sell the tour as a pretty good fishing experience for everyone with the promise of taking us to the best fishing spots. Even if you tell me that the weather didn’t help (because it was raining) you can be a professional company and just re-schedule the tour, believe me, people would prefer to lose the trip than to lose 5 hours of their vacation, be under the rain for most of the time and waste their money. We were pretty exciting, but it was a pretty upsetting experience.
We took the shark fishing tour on the Drifter. Ours was the 3 hour tour in the sound. Super cool experience to fish for sharks (and of course throw them back in). Each one of us in our party caught a shark (hammerheads and blacktip). They were small but it was very cool and a fun experience. Relaxing boat ride and a great experience fishing for sharks.
Fantastic Captain and deck hand, very friendly. perfect for the kids, enjoyed seeing the dolphins, catching bait fish, and a variety of fish and sharks. Thanks a lot, well worth it!
Excellent choice for catching sharks, especially for kids. Staff is friendly, and the two locations we boated to produced 3 types of sharks. I think everyone on board caught a shark, though most of us pulled in more than one. Smaller sharks around 6 and the larger toward 3. Destinations are only 15-20 minutes away for the marina, which worked well with the young passengers. Price point is a steal for the memory!
Great, personable company. We got very close to dolphins and really enjoyed the experience! We’ve taken several dolphin cruises on Hilton Head and this one is our favorite!! Will definitely go back!
We had a great experience on the dolphin watch tour. We saw lots of dolphins, the trip was smooth, and the staff were great. Highly recommend. We will do it again on our next trip!
We saw dolphins. The cruise took us around the bay area. And only 5 minutes in and we were seeing dolphins. They were even jumping out of the water. Loved every minute. When we go back to Hilton Head Island, we will definitely be doing this again
Awesome trip. The captain and mates...Eric and Jack were great. Ive done other big boat fishing like this on Hilton Head, but this boat got us fishing quickly and we spent a good 3.5 hours or more of fishing. Caught 4 small sharks and a sea bass, but others caught bigger sharks. Awesome trip. Would highly recommend for a family. They have snacks and drinks on board if you want to buy from them. Restrooms are actually very clean and usable. Note...dont bring bananas, youll either have to eat them or throw them away, but you cant take them on the boat.
Scheduled a 5 hour trip with the drifter and showed up to the dock to find out the trip was cut to a four hour trip, after paying 8 bucks to get into sea pines(no notice)... we were told we would be deep sea fishing an artificial reef and instead taken to a river mouth in about ten feet of water, we caught a couple small sea bass.. at the end of the day with a crew of 25 people fishing we had a grand total of 2 keepers! This could be a cool experience for a child to see some fish up close or if you wanna enjoy a nice boat ride but I would not recommend to a fisherman or someone anticipating bringing home some fish. Jack was a great deck hand.
Captain Adam and First Mate Jack were both excellent hosts when my wife and I went on the fishing excursion last week. The ocean was too choppy to go that far out but they adapted and found a couple of great spots; we caught a 3 foot shark and a couple of rays, and across the board the other half a dozen people on the trip had good luck landing sharks, as well as a few fish that ended up as bait or getting thrown back. Both guys were very personable and friendly — genuinely good people who cared that we had the best time possible. Would definitely go back again, may try doing a charter with them to target getting some take-home fish now that we’ve done the shark part. Thanks again!!
Did this last year. Did it again this year and was amazing between my family of 4 we caught 15 to 20 sharks on the evening sharks 3hr trip. Most were about one foot or a little over but my 5 year old caught a 3 foot bonnet nose hammerhead. The deck hand Alex was excellent with the kids and great help. The captain is excellent too. Well worth the money will do it every time we come back.
Captain was very unfriendly. He couldnt be bothered with questions. Seemed like hed rather have been anywhere but there
Crew was very knowledgeable and attentive throughout the entire trip. They also have the best prices on the island for deep sea fishing charters. Would highly recommend Drifter Excursions for locals or tourists!
Wow, what a great time! The crew is great, you don’t feel like you are invading their space, you feel welcome from the start. We took our nine, eleven, and fourteen year olds and all three of them asked if we could book it again before our week ended. The kids caught a three foot hammerhead and several smaller sharks. Fishing with kids should be fun and this trip didn’t disappoint. If you need help you get it right away and if you don’t need any assistance you are given space to enjoying fishing on your own. I wouldn’t bring a thing except a camera and some cash. They offer bottled water/sodas for $1.00 each and snacks for $1.00 each!!! You can tell they really want you to enjoy your trip. Easy and lots of fun!!
Our family had a wonderful cruise today! The two captains were very knowledgeable yet down-to-earth and easy to talk to! They knew right where to take us, and we had an amazing encounter with the dolphins...up close, jumping out of the water, and swimming with their babies! Incredible! Priceless memories for a very reasonable price!
We had a great experiance! We did the 3 hr. Shark fishing and 1 hr dolphin tour. Shark fishing on the Drifter was great the guys are very nice. We moved around to a few locations to give everyone a chance to caught something but not everyone did. We took our 6 yr old and luckily he cause a few little sharks. It was very cool and the guys are very patient with the kids. Dolphin watching was a nice ride on the water out to were the dolphins were feeding. There was about 20 and some came very close to the boat!
We had a great time aboard the Gypsy on July 3, 2018. Captain Jennifer and her brother were awesome. She shared a lot of knowledge about the Dolphins and the area. We seen a lot of Dolphins on our excursion. I will definitely bring my family back.
Highly recommend the crew of Jennifer and Robert. Saw dozens of beautiful dolphins. So worth the money!
Great family experience with great people! We saw many dolphins and caught shrimp, crab, and even sharks! Definitely recommend
Great fishing trip. We caught several shark and several smaller fish. The captain was very friendly and the first mate, Jack, was really helpful. I would highly recommend this if you like a relaxing deep sea fishing experience.
Called to get a quote and ask a few questions and the woman who answered was short, snotty and rude. Needless to say there a dozens of other options and we won’t be using this company! Professionalism is key and kindness when asking for people to pay you for a service would go a long way. This coast seems to breed bitter employees, we just moved here from CA and have never endured such rude people all over, it’s insane! If you don’t train the people answering the phone to be much kinder you won’t be getting business. It’s like putting a cockroach at the entrance of a restaurant and hoping they still stay to eat.
Really good experience for my son and I. We had never been fishing in the ocean. He caught 3 and I caught 4. No guarantees with fishing, but the captain knew some real good spots and had everything we needed to fish. The first mate Alex and Capt. Adam did really good to help out when we got fish on and or got hung up on the bottom. Great experience overall. Probably cheaper than renting equipment and fishing from shore.
We went on the Kids Cruise and it was a great experience! The Captian and Guide were wonderful and my kids and I (4 kids) had a BLAST! They got to do so many hands on things, learned new ocean facts and even caught a shark! (2 footer).
We saw the dolphins and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. However its really not acceptable NOT to warn the people that there is an $8 charge *per car* to get into Sea Pines. Make a deal with the association and cover the $8, for crying out loud. Or warn the people up front. People may not think to bring cash or a credit card to a dolphin cruise.
Went out with my 3 year old son and family, and had a great time! We caught shrimp, crabs, and some sharks! Had a great time learning on the boat and talking with Captain Jennifer and Joey. Would definitely recommend this trip to other families and will be going back next time we are here.
Great crew. My 7 1/2 yo boy and I went on the deep sea trip on the Drifter and had a blast. Caught lots of fish. Just be mindful that it gets very out there if youre in the sun. Cant wait to go again.
We had a great time shark fishing in the Drifter with my 8 year old son! Courteous crew and great equipment. The late afternoon was like a fishing expedition with dolphin watching and sunset cruise! Great value!
Excellent fishing trip with this company. Would highly recommend it as an activity with teenage children. Very comfortable boat with knowledgeable and attentive crew. 1st class morning or afternoon activity.
We had a great time shark fishing on the Drifter! Captain Adam and mate Jack are awesome!! The sharks were biting and our teenagers were all smiles! Can’t wait to come back next year!!
This was a very productive and interesting trip. And it was not at all expensive. Fishing licenses are included in the modest cost, and water, snacks and beer are available for purchase if you dont bring your own. I fished until my hand was tired of reeling in the many fish I caught. Id recommend this to anyone who wants to break up a golf trip to Hilton Head.
We went on the Kids Cruise to spot dolphins and catch sharks. The crew was super friendly and made the excursion both exciting and educational. They told us about the sound, taught the kids how to cast nets, pulled up a crab trap, and eventually helped us catch a few sharks! This is definitely a must do family activity on HH.
Great time fishing with my kids (10 and 6) today. Captain and crew were very helpful and made sure the kids each had fun.
Very well done. All the staff was very attentive and we caught several fish and 2 sharks. Would recommend others take the trip.
We just finished our second shark fishing trip with Drifter Excursions and had a ball both times. My kids (4 and 6) each caught sharks and got a turn with a casting net. The captain, Jennifer, and her mate were friendly, knowledgeable and great with kids. It’s a must-do experience when visiting Hilton Head.
Our family caught quite a few sharks on The Drifter. A wonderful experience with a great crew.
Porpoise excursion.the captain was friendly and engaging and put us right in the middle of a large group of playful dolphins.our grandkids enjoyed the show
We set up a reservation (group of 5) two days prior for an 8 AM fishing trip with the Drifter Excursion. The morning of the trip, we showed up 15 minutes early and waited 45 minutes - no one showed. We called the number we set up the reservation with and we found out they forgot to book us. Luckily we had only driven 20 minutes from where we were staying so it wasnt a big deal for travel expense - but it would have been nice to of been offered a discount on another trip or even the chance to book another trip.
Nice crew and all but I paid 60 bucks to catch a fish. Only 1 person caught a tiny fish on the whole boat. I’m disappointed
We had a very fun day out in the ocean fishing with the crew Adam (captain) and Jack (first mate). Based on the seas being rough we only went out 4 miles instead of the 12-14 miles. So we did the 4 hour trip instead of the scheduled 5 hour. Still had a blast! My girlfriend is the luckiest Fisher I know. She caught 7 fish including a baby shark doo doo doo doo doo doo. None were big enough too keep though. My dad caught 6 fish, 2 we kept for a snack and he caught a 3 foot shark! I only caught 2 but I’m terrible at fishing so it’s expected. Adam and Jack are excellent hosts on the boat. They care about their customers and want everyone to have a good time. Continuously coming around and asking if you’ve caught anything and helping take fish off the hook. They help you get unstuck off rocks. I really enjoyed this trip. Make sure you bring anti nausea meds. Lots of people were sea sick from not being prepared.
Good time with good people but didnt catch any keepers. Erik was very personable and helpful.
Great crew, very affordable and you get your moneys worth. Highly recommended!
The staff went out of their way to make sure we got our moneys worth. Very polite and courteous. A+++
Dont count on your reservation....Prime summer day and they call 18 hours before departure to say they dont have enough people to go! what a joke! We counted on a Saturday to take the trip.
Very friendly and a great price. Knowledgeable and helpful crew. Polite and kid friendly.
Great trip. Boat is clean, safe and fun. Caught fish every second of the trip.
Horrible experience. With a boat full of 30-40 people, not one fish came off the boat with anyone. We were brought to an area offshore to be told it was too choppy (there were at least 4 or 5 smaller charter boats there that were faring just fine) so we were brought to an inshore area (not far from a beach that I could have cast almost as far from). We kept asking the skipper Alex to ask the captain if we could move to another spot and we were all happy to go back to the offshore spot because we wanted to catch something. Multiple small sharks were caught which may make a good picture but everything had to be thrown back because of the horrible location where they brought us. The second inshore area was even worse, 10 minutes in they moved again to one more area just as close to shore and then our trip was over about 15 minutes after that, again with nothing to bring home for anyone on the boat. All in all Id say we got maybe 2 hours of fishing but probably more like an hour and a half plus all the driving. They were able to refund us for our 4 year old who didnt get much of an experience at all except getting his hands on a small shark that mom and dad caught. Werent willing to do anything for the rest of the participants in our group who are extremely dissatisfied after reading positive reviews prior to, not sure why.
We went dolphin watching and almost immediately into getting in the open water there were so many dolphins! They came up close. Only downfall is that we had to wait about 20 minutes longer so the captains sister could ride for safety reasons per the coast guard. All in all, I would go again.
Not one fish in 4 hours not me the entire boat. Stay away from this tourist bait.
Great trip!!!!
