Main point: I had such a great experience! Highly recommend this salon and the spa!Ive gone to Design1 - Plainfield several times for facials, and they have been wonderful. I love the quiet, spa like setting, and my skin always looks its best afterwards.I have recently decided to embrace my wavy/curly hair after styling it straight for 32 years! I did a ton of research on the internet and YouTube, and thought I knew what to do. I committed to a pricey line of products, and tried my hand at styling my wavy/curly mop. Well, it wasnt terrible, but it wasnt great. Picture a matted Poodle thats missed too many grooming appointments! Anyways, I called Design1 and asked for an appointment that day with a hairstylist who was familiar with curly hair. I got an appointment with Lo, and she was fantastic!I brought in the products I had bought, and she was more than happy to use them on me, and walk me through what each product was for. She added some layers to help get the weight off, and then showed me how to style and diffuse my hair properly.

I do not recommend this location at all. Had a couple message booked out for over a month and took off work for it. This was a special date and special time for us. A few hours before the appointment our session was cancelled. The response, Sorry, we hardly have any message therapists willing to work and we only have three. Dont offer a service if you cant provide the service. We could have booked with someone else and wouldnt have waited so long. Definitely lost a long time customer and referral source today.

This is such a great salon, I will never go anywhere else to get my hair done! SJ is such a great stylist and she did everything that I wanted with my hair. I left my appointment feeling so happy and my hair has never looked better!

I attempted waxing my own legs a couple times within this last year. So, I decided to try going to get it done. Best decision ever! Nikki was awesome! She helped recommend the best type of waxing I should do for my skin type. Talking with her seemed natural & was a great distraction from the pain (which wasnt terrible). She was attentive to the scars on my knees from previous surgeries and did great going quick to sooth the sensitive spot. Im definitely seeing Nikki when its time for my next go-round.

I love to get my hair color with Mary. She definitely knows what she is doing. My hair turned out gorgeous and exactly the color I asked for

I got the best mens haircut and beard trim from Samantha T. She did it, customer for life. I also now have two of the best, not just one, eyebrows Ive ever had in my life, thanks to Nicky. Professional grade service. Loved it.

Booked a haircut at a new location with a new stylist because I love Design1 and have been getting my haircut at the Grandville and Cascade locations for awhile and figured it didn’t matter. The Plainfield location was more convenient for the time and date I scheduled to get my little sisters haircut. My sister asked for two inches off her hair, and to thin and trim up her long layers. My sister walked out of there with her hair not thinned, her layers not trimmed, and curtain bangs she didn’t ask for. Not to mention, during the session the stylist (April Y) kept mentioning how she was so busy and didn’t have time to do things and how her next client was coming soon. She didn’t even ask my sister if she wanted her hair curled or straightened after it being blow dried like both the cascade and Grandville locations do, as well as any other place I’ve gotten my hair cut has. Which leaves me in a little bit of an awe especially for the price of the haircut. She didn’t even brush my sisters hair after blow drying it, which makes me wonder how she could she whether it was even or not or needed to trim more icees once the hair was dried. Super disappointed and slightly horrified at this experience. Will not be returning to this location again. It was really clean and the front desk and checkout lady were both wonderful and nice but the hair stylists service and unprofessionalism will make me a one time customer.

Amazing all over highlights done by Camden! I got all over highlights with long thick hair, plus a toner and it turned out exactly what I wanted. He was realistic and professional! I have NEVER found a stylist i was comfortable with and this stylist did it for me! Amazing work!

Nicole R has been cutting my hair for a few years now. She always does an excellent job. I have wavy/curly hair and my hair looks great no matter if I do it or not.

I had the best experience here! It was clean, staff were very nice and they have so many products to offer! My stylist, April, did such an amazing job with my hair! She was very thorough, and put so much care in her work! She is a color Queen for sure! I think the whole Salon was in awe when my hair was done!! I will be back!

I went in for a massage and I was blown away. Ashley did an excellent job and took care of me. I walked away feeling almost no tension in my back and shoulders. I would highly recommend to anyone to see her.

My hair journey has been a long one, the left side is what I started with a few months back. After a botched hair color and few lightening sessions later and my hair being so fried I decided it was time for the big chop. I was really nervous as my hair was in horrible condition and the blonde I wanted I knew would be damaging. CAMDON KILLED IT. He got my color SPOT ON with minimal damage, and the cut is so freeing. I can’t stop running my fingers through it, I’m in LOVE!!

We see Patrick. I get very exciting colors each time requiring bleach and purples, pinks, greens etc...they come out perfect and last forever or fade beautifully and are rich. My kids get wonderful cuts even though they have thin, thick, colics and unruly waves, Patrick can work with it all!

Everyone who works here are all so nice, informative, and amazing at their craft. All of the massage therapist are absolutely amazing and the massage beds are so comfy! They have cucumber water and lemon water that you can enjoy while you wait along with some snacks. The whole environment is relaxing and friendly and I highly recommend making an appointment there.

The ladies at Design 1 are a dream to work with. Sheila is the best nail tech around and helped me to find the perfect design for my nails. Skyelar is an AMAZING makeup artist and was so accommodating. She made sure I was comfortable with how my makeup looked every step of the way. Lindsey made my hair look exactly how I had envisioned it in my head. She really took the time to listen to what I wanted and made it happen! I would definitely recommend Design 1 for not only your wedding needs, but your everyday needs, too!

I went in this past Wednesday.. Today is Saturday and my shellac ed nails are coming off!! Ugh!!! $40 down the drain!! Never again!!My toenails too!! Paid over $100 for both.Got a call saying come back for a re-do... I just want a refund!!

Great service! If you want quality work done on your hair, nails, etc, come here! The staff is always so friendly. It can be a bit pricey, but it is well worth it! Each staff member is carefully trained so no matter who you get you will be in good hands. :)

Decent experience here. I got a massage that ended up costing more than I anticipated. It would have been nice to know they were going to upgrade the type of massage. Otherwise, a good massage and overall experience.

Samantha is the BEST stylist at Design 1. My hair was fried by a stylist at a different salon and Samantha has worked magic on my hair. She always goes over pricing beforehand, asks the right questions, and does a fantastic job every time! I highly recommend going to see her at the Plainfield location. The whole experience, beginning to end, is totally worth the price!! I’ll never go anywhere else again!

Novice skills. Not thrilled.

I’d had my hair color totally botched at another salon in EGR. In a moment of panic I stopped at Design 1 and asked if there was anyone I could talk to about fixing it. Everyone was so sweet and helpful and they were able to squeeze me in later that day (mind you I’d never been to Design 1 before). Ray was AMAZING and covered up the terrible purple/half head of highlights with a beautiful rich dark brown. I can’t say thank you enough! Highly recommend.

Ive come here for various services and it is kind of pricey. Some of the people and services are worth paying extra for, but most Ive found arent worth the inflated cost. You can get the same quality or better going somewhere less expensive. The only reason Ill be going back again is because I was given a gift card for Design 1 that must be used.

Lindsey from Design One one Plainfield is so talented! I like her because shes very honest about cuts/color that will work on curly hair/thick and what will not. She has helped me style my hair in a way that is better suited for its texture! I have had great stylists before but unfortunately they would cut my hair in a way that was not flattering for its type. Lindsey knows exactly what to do and will guide me in the right direction. She has also done wonders in the hair-coloring departed. I had very dark hair and she was able to make me close to blonde (over the course of many visits, gotta do it the healthy way!) and my hair is still very healthy! She also gave me great advice for taking care of my hair and what products she uses (she also has thick, curly hair). Plus, shes funny and easy to talk to! I would recommend her for people with any type of hair but especially for the curly-headed ladies. :)

Tried cheaper places for manicures and pedicures, but always end up back here.

I go to design one a couple times a year to do pedicures. It is so relaxing, and calming. Whether I go with a friend or by myself I always feel great. The people that do the pedicures are very friendly and well chat with you or just be there if youd like some quiet time. The chairs are very comfortable and everything smells great.

I hate to leave poor reviews, but this hair cut was rather inexcusable. I was ready for a change and wanted to lighten my hair color and get a normal hair cut. I made clear to Roxy, my stylist, that I did not want streaky highlights. The color mishap is probably more on me not knowing what full highlights really entail; nonetheless, I ended up with streaky highlights. Now, the haircut is what really did me in. I gave Roxy the same reference point that I gave my last hair stylist (which was my favorite haircut from Design 1 Cascade!), and Roxy dropped the ball. She cut it much shorter than I wanted and gave me TERRIBLE layers. My top layer ends at my chin while the bottom ends a bit above my armpit with NO blending for those ~4 inches. Honestly, my hair can look like a mullet from the wrong angle. The worst part is that I dont want above-the-shoulder length hair, but the only way to fix this botch-job is to cut it that short. Never getting my hair cut again at Design 1 Plainfield. I have since gotten closer to what I wanted my hair to be at Salon Re but still have to painfully wait out these awful layers.

This was Design one on 28th street in Cascade area, not Plainfield.I had the works done cost me over 250 bucks at my hair done my eyebrows my face and my fingernails I would have given them a very good review however three days after I had my nails done they started to fall off.the quality of the job was not anywhere near what I was used to getting either the nails Ripley they werent smooth they didnt have a good finish on them.other than that the customer service was good the haircut was good the eyebrow wax is good its just I spend a lot of money on nails and got very poor quality nails

Went in for a pedicure, they informed me my regular girl was out ill and had called and left a message. My ringer was off, thank goodness they kept my slot and filled it with another. Amanda was efficient, pleasant and did a great job.

If it wasnt for the people that work here, especially Laura Voss (my amazing stylist), this may have been a bit lower. There recent update to the facility, which has been greatly anticipated, is quite a flop. As soon as you walk in the door you are bombarded by product, which makes you feel as if you are in an Ulta. Dont get me wrong, I love a good Ulta trip, but I go to Ulta to shop and a salon to get pampered. The girls behind the counter are welcoming as usual, but they struggle to grab your attention through the confusion of entering. I 100% support an update to the salon, however I feel this design takes away from the great welcoming customer service the salonpreviously had. There is also not a lot of options for seating. Only 5 chairs were in the lobby and you constantly feel as though you are in everyones way. The spa vibe has most definitely been lost.

Excellent service and skilled staff with reasonable prices. Theyll serve you a beverage while you wait, and the hair service is awesome. My go to for haircuts now. Also: go get a massage! You wont regret it.

Amazing pedicure and massage! It was a surprise to even get a scrub on just a 1/2 hour massage, loved it. My feet feel and look incredible also because I tried the Margarita Pedicure -- it smelled so good and made me so relaxed while she massaged my feet too! Such a friendly and warm atmosphere -- thank you! A+ once again.

I love my salon! Everyone there is super friendly and professional- especially my #1 hair trustee- Lo! She is fabulous and every time I come in, she has great ideas on hairstyles and color. I really enjoy her style, abilities, personality and professionalism.

I bought my mom a gift certificate for a facial and massage for Christmas. She was so excited for some pampering after a hard last six months. Her facial by chelsey was great and I’m very thankful for that. Her massage was mediocre at best and honestly that’s what she needed the most. The girl never asked her where she was sore or what needed attention. She said it was obvious that she was very new and didn’t really know what she was doing. The part of the experience that ruined the entire day for her however was the checkout girl Morgan. She felt very pressured into booking future appointments even though she would not be able to afford them ( Hence the gift card from me). Chelsea had suggested some products for her to try the trial sizes of which she planned to get. The desk girl put the full priced $90 bottle on the counter and got a huge attitude when she told her she wasn’t getting the large bottle today but the trial size. She never even got her the ones she asked for just grabbed the large bottle and rudely said “so you won’t be needing this”. Her day that was meant to treat and relax her ultimately made her feel bad about herself. I have been a customer of design one grandville and thought that she would love this gift. After the way she was treated I will be taking my monthly business elsewhere.

Services here are great depending on the employee. Chelsea B is amazing for eyebrows. I would NOT recommend this place for nails. Extremely over priced and low quality. My shellac manicure chipped within days. I did not go back and even ask for it to be fixed. I went somewhere else and got a much better quality shellac for way less.

If you want GREAT COLOR at a affordable price go to Shear Attitudes in Middleville, MI and ask for Cindy. Seriously 85$ for cut and color that looks and feels amazing. Ive been seeing the same stylist for 5 years now, wouldnt want to go anywhere else! Everyone is super friendly and they always have some kind of deal going on. Lots of other services too, from makeup to massages.

As a father not knowing much about hair I trusted them with my little girl and they were exceptional. Everybody was so nice they offered complementary drinks while I waited. They did a updo for our special occasion and I cant believe how amazing she looked. Recommend to anyone who wants to look their best

Ive had everything from haircuts to highlights to a make up session and more.Ive never been disappointed with any stylist or any service. Laura is my current stylist and I HIGHLY recommend her. I’m writing because just today I had yet another terrible experience at the Plainfield salon. Today I had yet again my hair hacked off by one of the employees I thought I could finally trust. 3 years ago I used to see a lady and the last time I saw her she had cut my hair to my shoulders when I had SPECIFICALLY asked for a trim. At that time my hair was nearly to my belly button. After that experience I was done seeing her and done with Design 1. I had found another stylist at another salon I liked but my mother said she had been having a very good experience with a different lady at Design 1. I was hesitant at first and finally switched to her after seeing her results. I have been going to her for about a year and a half now but this recent most visit I have yet again had my hair cut 4 inches when I had went in for a TRIM, (she has never cut more than half an inch specified by me) my hair was down to my belly button finally after the 3 years and now it barely reaches my chest because of today. I had just grown my hair to the length I’ve wanted badly since the first time an employee at Design 1 has done this to me. It’s infuriating how not only has this happened twice now, but I had trusted Design 1 and was yet again failed. I did not come in to pay over $200 and get my hair done just to have it hacked off and go home bawling yet again. I’m extremely disappointed and upset because of this experience because a years worth of growth is completely gone. I have emailed them and am waiting for a reply.

I usually go to Mastercuts for my hair and eyebrows,but for a treat I decided to go to the best salon in town... Never have I experienced such terrible customer service at a salon. The stylist was out in space and couldnt hold a conversation, didnt listen to what I wanted and became frustrated when I would try to correct her. She chopped the back of my hair so short it will not stay down, and bearly cut anything on the sides. I have never had such a ridiculous looking haircut in my life. I tried to have her fix it, and she would respond. Yupand keep doing the exact opposite of what I asked. I had requested an eyebrow wax as well, which was equally as poorly done as the haircut. I have never seen such sloppy application of wax, and she would rip the strips off so quickly none of the hair would come off. I would have been better plucking them myself. I spoke with a manager, who was no help and took all day to call me back. They offered a free haircut, but I declined. Id be better off cutting my own!

This was my first time coming to this location. I usually go to Cascade location and am very happy with their service. I was 5 min before the appointment time for my pedicure, but they made me wait for more than 20 min. When I went to the front desk and asked what was going on, they said my appointment time had changed and called me to let me know. I was puzzled why the receptionist didnt tell me when I checked in. And why do they lie? They didnt have my phone number. I am glad I left without spending my money there.

They take good care of you. Offer free drinks per apointment and listen carfully to your needs and wants. Staff is very friendly.

Highly disappointed in the service and treatment I received. I would steer clear of this place for nail service. I paid 60 for a full set of acrylic nail. It looked like a child did them, so i went in to have them fixed and it took almost 2 hours. They looked nice but they began to fall off because they were not fixed properly. Went back again and had 3 broken nails fixed which took another hour and a half of my time. Within a day of having them they began to crumble again. So i called and left a message for the manager. When she did not return my call. I called again and when i did speak with her i was told they would not give me a refund but they would fix them one more time but that would be it. I am not out $60 and 7 my nails are broken and look awful.I strongly discourage using design one for nails. Save your hard earned money, time and go someplace else. You will get better work and save a lot of money.

I had my hair done for my wedding day (updo) by a stylist who supposedly was their wedding hair expert. Not so!!! After my vail was put into place, my hair was literally falling out as I left the salon. No lie. My bridesmaid fixed my hair (thank God) but it screwed up the timeline for my other bridesmaids to get their hair done by (bridesmaid) since mine was being fixed by her. Called a few days later and they only offered $20 back to ‘fix’ the problem. PLEASE save your time and $$$ and go somewhere else!!

I had a horrible experience. My hair got absolutely fried and I tried to work things out with the managers and they were very unfriendly and one of them even laughed at me over the phone. They could have at least been nicer. I ended up paying over $200 trying to save my hair.

I had an okay time talking with the stylist, but after saying I just wanted a trim she cut my hair too short and gave me almost bangs instead of face framing. I have glasses so I couldn’t see what she was doing until I finally stopped her when feeling like there was too much hair coming off...too late. Roxane tried but did not succeed. Will not return.
