Best gym hands down. Amazing facilities and staff.YMCA works with you. Example:They let me pause my gym membership during covid and come back with no fee. I doubt youd find a more chill gym. They even have a discount for people who cant afford the membership. Worth taking a look even if you think the fee is to high to pay each month.
We love the Southdale Y! Their Kids Stuff staff is the best! They really care about our kids and plan fun activities. The warm water leisure pool with vortex and zero depth entry are great, too.
This was my first visit back here in years. I was surprised at how much they had in the weights area - lots of machines and free weights. The locker room has seen better days, so its not a luxury workout spot.
Monthly fee is worth it; many types of exercise equipment. There are free classes for seniors. Personal trainers are fabulous. Very clean; great ambience.
Currently, we are doing a five day free trial and everything feels safe. I really enjoy the spacious, clean setting. Feeling very positive about getting a membership and supporting the good mission of the YMCA (and losing this Covid pudge.)
Excellent Pedaling for Parkinsons program. Cant wait until it comes back to the Burnsville YMCA.
It being my 1st time using the Vortex pool, and being at that YMCA, my experience was good. Ill revisit ratings score when I spend more time there at the Southdale YMCA.
I love it I got to take jens class and she is the best I love all of her energy and music
Like the staff so much. Would be much happier, if pickleball was more than 2 days a week. Burnsville Y has more than double time.
Rated as a 4 but no fault of theirs: limited time/space in pool COVID. Otherwise great
The fabulous Zumba classes with the Amazing Jen Marth are the reason for my membership. A safe and clean facility allow me to just relax and enjoy my class.
Southdale YMCA continues to provide excellent customer service, programs for seniors, and Virtual Y sessions.
Excellent gym. Lots of extra programs for social, societal as well as physical wellbeing.
I have been a member of the YMCA for years. It is a wonderful club to belong to and really helps me to stay in shape. The staff are always knowledgeable and helpful. I appreciate their attitude of kindness and attention to safety, especially now in the times of COVID-19. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible!
Really nice equipment and gym
Very good 👍excellent
Over all employees are wonderfull overcrowded though
Love to work out her they clean the machines and lots of options
Great nice location. I love this YMCA.
Great job on virus protocols! Thanks for being open!
My first time being back since Covid it was very clean and the staff was very helpful! Everyone was being responsible, following the rules and wearing a mask.
I do miss the steam room. But that cant be helped.
Best place for working out and swimming ever.Such great personnel, trainers. The equipment is up-to-date and very nice.Love the swimming pools especially the warm pool.Only disadvantage is get into swim because of classes.Highly recommend.
They didn’t show me where things were and I am a new member so I still feel like if you sign up and new or come from a different location you should be shown around so you are Aware Of where things are .. it made transition go sloppy and I felt uncared for . Still no clue where things ... idk if it has to do with covid or that’s how they are .. but it’s a bit unprofessional, you show let guests know where things are and what other services they have or whatever I should know .. so 2 stars is all this location gets . I didn’t feel a positive vibe at all .. but I gave two stars because it’s not far from home. So smh!
Very good 👍
Nice remodeled space and very few visitors due to covid
Couldnt thank Justin in sales enough for his wonderful help today. We walked in with an unexpected bill and he was able to resolve the issue within minutes. But, it wasnt the taking care of the bill part that stood out. It was his calm, kind, and compassionate attitude within how he handled it to resolved the issue was what really stood out. Thanks again Justin!
Nice work out place for our family. My wife and I had a peace of mind that my kids were taken care of while we work out. My kids have enjoyed the time theyve spent in the kids area as well. Have not tried any of the classes yet but looking forward on attending one.
Great facility for all ages and needs
Love the Southdale Y! Staff is helpful and has all the weights and equipment I need for my workouts. I have been going there about 4 days a week for about the last 5 years. The best feature is the steam sauna!
The architecture is what is still called modern. Lots of walls meet at angles of 45 or 135 degrees. Great pools: one for lap swimming, with deep water; a separate pool for playing; tall narrow windows to let in some daylight. Sauna and also a steam room in the locker room. Weights are adequate. Plenty of new plates, but you may have to dig out the ones you want from behind a jumble of different vintages. No track.
The Edina ymca masks should be mandatory but not everyone wears them. The set up for social distance is a joke and if you want to swim don’t bother unless you want to swim on someone
The childcare at this center is very low quality, all of which the staff are disrespectful.
A great place for Family fitness activities. They have many programs for kids and seniors and all ages in between. Im in the Silver Sneakers program and it has helped me to get my old body in shape and lose weight. They have everything from personal trainers to summer camps. Its also the most welcoming club that I know of.
The building is extensive and looks to have lots or equipment and activity rooms. We joined but havent really been able to use it. The last time we went Google showed it as a not very busy time, yet we could not find a place to park. I circled the front and back lots for several minutes and they were all full. There were a number of other cars doing the same. If I cant park it is not useful to go here.
Is open swim available anymore because the pandemic and all
We enjoy coming here frequently for the whole family. I have my boot camp classes that I love and the equipment is great. Always plenty of space to do my own workout too. Our kids enjoy the day care, the castle playroom, the racquetball or basketball courts, and of course the swimming. We also really like the swimming lessons for the kids. Great community option for the whole family. I am not sure why anyone was complaining about the staff. I am very familiar with most of the staff since we are regulars and they are very friendly. I am always surprised how many remember my name.
The facility itself is fine, but the parking is worse than going downtown Minneapolis trying to look for parking. We’ve spent over 30 before trying to find a single open spot.
Lots of options for different ages and fitness levels. I take the Forever Well water exercise and Silver Sneakers Classic classes & they are terrific. I had been ill and needed to build up my strength and these classes are a fun way to do it.
Love this Y! The front parking lot is always insanely full so you’ll likely have to drive around back and walk. The equipment and facility is more updated than most Ys. Treadmills are incredibly difficult to come by.
The location is convenient; the staff are helpful and friendly; the machines are working well.It would be great if the locker rooms can be improved— especially the family locker room. The changing rooms, I can hardly find a a clean and dry spot to get dressed, and certainly not easy to help a young child there. Thanks.
Wonderful location been here over 5 times. Showed up today and was told I’m not suppose to be “ high “. I am a patient of Minnesota medical cannabis for 3 car accidents and PTSD. Then after explaining and having to show proof to the front desk woman she continued to say I how I shouldn’t use my vapor pen before I come and only use oral solutions because of the smell. Have in mind this is a LEGAL medicine that is PRESCRIBED but a licensed physician. Very awkward and embarrassing situation.
Personal trainer... life guard... love the whirlpool... and friendly staffing.
Close to home, affordable, have early hours and the equipment I use. Nice front desk staff. Enjoy the diversity of people. Inclusiveness I like.
I only go for the skatepark out side. Best park youll ever find if your into vert skateing.
We love this place. My kids are preschool and elementary age. The childcare is great. They all love it. The classes I have been to are great and there is a wide variety of ages and ethnicities of members. Its great to see both toddlers and 80 year olds at the same place enjoying an active lifestyle. The only issue is parking ... if its 10 am when a lot of the classes start, its hard to find parking. Come earlier to find a space (usually in back).
The staff in the nursery are great with my children and very friendly. I know they are in good hands. The machines are nice and always work well. Im happy to be a member!!
Awesome YMCA location! I belonged here years ago for quite some time and switched to another gym for a while, and now Im definitely back to stay! Its even better since the remodel and expansion and the staff is just as friendly as I remember. Highly recommended!
Its an alright gym. A lot of kids/teens running around rampant though with no supervision being extremely loud and obnoxious while in the weight area/ check-in area. Theres also kids under 18 goofing around, screaming and running around in the 18+ mens locker room. One thing that gets a bit annoying is how long things just sit broken waiting to get fixed. The repair time is long on a lot of the machines. Machines I pay to use. Calf excercise machine needs to be replaced. Calf machine is still not replaced after a year on this review. wobbly as all can be. Please add 35 lb plates not sure why they were removed. And do something about that squeaky treadmill!
Staff is great, family locker rooms are cold, clammy and kinda gross. Womens locker rooms arent much better.Edit: womens locker rooms, specifically the showers have gotten BAD. I still work out here. The staff is still super friendly. My kid loves Kids Stuff, but I have to rearrange my day to accommodate going home for a shower. Apart from wiping mirrors and counters with paper towel and a quick hosing of the shower floor, the locker rooms are not being taken care of.
Great pool and very clean locker room. My kids loved it
I havent run into a single person who wasnt pleasant & welcoming. The shower facilities are just okay... theyre clean and they allow me to get clean, but the stall showers are a tight squeeze (unless youre okay touching the walls and curtain). The rest of the locker room is bright, cheery, clean, and plenty big. Classes are great, equipment is awesome, and there are plenty of options for open gym & lap swim.
Love supporting my community, but if youre looking for super fancy locker rooms and high end feel,b that isnt here.If you want clean, safe, welcoming, and friendly, this is your place. Tons and tons of freeb and paid classes, great childcare and hours.
Its not a bad place. There was plenty of time I would go and there was no towels. Not a lot of machines outside of treadmills. There was always people lingering on the machines. A nice pool area but always full of kids. It also gets a little pricey for what you really get. They have an app. Which can track your progress I enjoyed when it worked with the machines which was not very often very disappointing.
Always friendly
One of the few Twin City MN YMCAs that has a steam room
The Southdale Y is a great resource. My kids use it as a fun, safe place to exercise, play basketball, etc. My workouts are limited, but I appreciate the recently updated the rowers, treadmills, etc. Only drawbacks: Not as fancy as some of the Lifetimes (but a lot less $) and parking can be an issue at peak times. Overall, a fantastic value and positive force in the community.
Very cool place. Wish there was a better way to enforce towels in the mens steam room. But a fun and comfortable place.
Parking during rush hour can be pretty chaotic, and the facility is definitely due for an update or even full replacement. There simply isnt enough space in the weights area, and while I appreciate the effort to get as many cardio machines into the space it feels quite claustrophobic if youre stuck on one of the machines in the middle.
Great facility in a great location. I love all of the classes offered here and I love that it is so kid friendly. I usually bring my son to the play area while I take a yoga or a POUND class. He is 7 so its nice because he can join me in some classes but he wont be bored in the kids area as they care for older kids too. They even have an indoor playground! My son also did summer care here and loved it! There is different sports options every week for the summer program he can try and the staff is so amazing! Swimming lessons are great and there is six (I believe) different changing room options. Their is a lazy river pool that my son just got tall enough to reach. The only negative things I would have to say is that parking is really annoying during peak times (youll literally have to wait till people leave) and sometimes its awkward trying to check in as the front desk people have to multitask so much as once.
Nice and clean place.
Great facilities. Lots of great family options. Need more parking
I was trying to get a membership here. They emailed back immediately when I first inquired. After that, I emailed multiple times to try to set up a meeting but got nor at all. Clearly they dont want my money because when I went in to schedule one in person, the front desk said it couldnt be done. Bad customer service. Will be bringing my business elsewhere
The child care is great. Kids love playing in the castle in the basement. We also enjoy the multiple pools and rock climbing.
Great place but theyre rude
Very well put together place, I havent been there in a while but its definitely a blast. I dont know how Ill get you back or repay you for the good times there but I have to
My daughter has just started swimming class; her instructor is very awesome 🙌
Very comfortable atmosphere. Staff is friendly and people are polite.
Best hot tub, best weight room in S & W metro. Fairly big facility. Lap and leisure pool. No waterslide but rope swing certain hours or ask lifeguard. Huge AOA membership too. Great water aerobics classes for all abilities.
Ive been a y member for a few years. The south dale facility is in the top 10%. Theres a lot of room, tons of equipment. It gets crowded at the times youd expect, but not out of control. Nice b-ball gym. Staff is always friendly and organized.
Very much about kids. If youre an adult good luck using the pool. If youre disabled, forget the pool entirely since its rarely handicapped accessible.
One of the top twin cities YMCAs! Steam room and sauna and whirlpool.
Its really truly great the staff are all amazing............but they should have more classes for teens 13-17 then working out or swimming
We love being a member of the Y. The southdale locations has a great selection of classes (including Yoga Flow, which is my favorite), and the staff make a real effort to get to know your face. The ladies in the childcare room are wonderful and really seem to care about the kids.
We love this Y! The warm water pool and Vortex are great for families, the staff is friendly, and the machines are modern and well taken care of.
Absolutely love this YMCA has an actual steam sauna for women only inside the locker room
Very Clean. Up to date equipment. Friendly staff. If you are looking for a family friendly place to workout, this is it!
Good value. Usually not overly busy, unless youre there on January 1st... Family locker rooms are a little inadequate during peak swimming times and arent the cleanest. All in all, a good place.
Not a bad gym. More family oriented. There are a LOT of children running around unsupervised and some even get past the front desk watching the cardio equipment. Countless times Ive had to talk to an employee because a kid would be using the equipment without a wristband. There should be a rule in effect where kids need to be with a parent at all times. Because right now theyre running rampant all around the facility. Theres also a lot of teenagers who loiter around the front entrance and parking lot using vulgar language. If you want a quiet experience do not go in the evening hours. Also the shower soap dispensers run out by the time I get there in the evening.
Recently remodeled. Has the typical amenities of a gym: machines, weights, class, studio, warm vortex pool, zero depth pool, traditional pool, open gym, party rooms, indoor playground, hot tub and sauna/steam room in the women locker room.
I spent time with my nephews here. Clean facility. We had a great time.
Had an absolutely terrible experience. We were taking our daughter here for swim lessons and the lady in charge told us to talk to someone about a 5 day pass so we could get her acquainted with the pool. I got taken into a room with a sales person (I cant remember, but I think his name was Karl?) where he didnt even give me the option of the 5-day pass and pressured me into getting a membership because the first month was free. I even told him we were looking into a different gym, that we were only at the Y for swim lessons. He told me I would be able to call him and cancel, so I tried and never got ahold of him. I tried calling someone else and they would not let me cancel over the phone, so I ended up having to pay for a months membership simply because I was too busy to make it in to cancel a membership I never used because I never wanted it in the first place. Im extremely displeased with the pushy salesperson who took advantage of my passiveness and profited off my inability to come in to cancel. Not to mention how extremely rude the lady at the front desk was when I cancelled. I would never recommend this place. We go to LA fitness, it is cheaper, cleaner, and way friendlier.
A great venue for a birthday party! Super clean and convenient location!
Nice gym and pool. The staff here are also very friendly as well. You dont need to remember to bring the card either since you can add it into the ymca app and not worry about it.
This place is a joke as well as the YMCA. Every year, they still cant get their programs organized or even notify families when to register leaving us with needing to move to another location or gaps in the program. The last teacher my son had only talked to the lifeguard, didnt even watch the kids swimming, while that wasnt the best situation that was enough for us to say something about it. And to top it off, their website is horrible and is consistently difficult to find/register, they have made improvements but its again, overall a joke.
Very crowed and loud, staff not particularly friendly - not hostile, just not helpful or friendly. Expensive. Wish there was a reasonable competitor in the area Id be off.
They really going to kick me out because I didnt have my card. When they can easily ring up my name. I dont pay $60 a month for me to get kicked out by lazy people... Man all they had to is something simple. Not paying $5 for a card while paying a total $60 a month ?? Getting kicked out ... Very very very unprofessional YMCA Shame on two ladies at the front desk. Everyone else has been wonderful and great. I believe one of the ladies was Jen who falsely lied about me and I couldnt get the others name
Awesome gym. Plenty of cardio equipment and space. All the free weights you need good T Bar row
I think this is one of the older YMCA locations in the metro area. Ive always had a good experience here. I havent taken many classes but I love Body Pump!
Child Care & Summer CampRidiculous! Starting with those attendants that stays at that desk by the dropping off door (not the main gym door). Yes, the ones without a real job, because all they can do is making faces of stress, madness, and ignoring people because they are “busy texting 90% of the time” and complaining about people. First, YMCA should tell them to NEVER again complain about kids and their parents in front of OTHER kids and their parents. Second, stop hiring “KIDS” to take care of KIDS. Get someone with MORE experience AT LEAST. Third, your system (or at least Southdale location) is a joke. Unprofessional and useless care with all kids, where yelling at them is the ONLY tool your incompetent staff uses after all. I will personally make sure that ALL families I know from that location will ever again get their kids in your program.Show people some respect: start hiring some decent and polite humans to work there. Trust me, you can easily find something better than what you’ve already got.
Excellent child care, with long term staff who get to know the children. Updated cardio workout machines, many of them capable of entertaining you during your workout.Plus all the other regular features of a full service workout center.
Great place for families. Childcare is great. SOme of the machines are not always working properly. Sometimes it seems some parents drop off kids ages 10-16. They can be loud and unruly. Should be a rule against that.
Love this place. Pool and hot tub are great. Plus theres a whirlpool!!
This is Best YMCA in Twin Cities Great place to workout with a friendly and staff.is wellcome to you by smiling
Great location! Best pool for little kids. Love the new swim lesson curriculum for the littlest, much more worthwhile.
