They make you sign the agreement digitally when you sign up but you cant actually see it. You have to request it to be emailed to you. When I went to cancel due to severe health issues, I was charged for the month that I cancelled AND the month after that. Why you ask? Because its on the agreement I signed but couldnt see. They dont tell you this when you sign up, but if you pick the month to month option, you are required to give 30 days notice for cancelling. That means that even if you cancel the DAY AFTER your normal billing day, you will be charged for the NEXT month. I understand I was not going to get a refund for the month I already paid. Completely understandable. But to be also charged for the next month is ridiculous. I am aware I should have requested to see it before I signed (lesson learned), but from a customer service stand point, if they are going to make you sign something you cant see, then they should at least verbally let you know when picking that option. That is sneaky. Additionally, you would think they might have made an exception due to the circumstance but I received no compassion. ALSO they charge more for the month to month flexibility.... kinda weird considering its not very flexible. Why does a successful gym with constant stream of income need a 30 day notice for cancellation? They dont. Its just another shady way to make a buck off of their customers. I understand they have a right to do so, but I also think its horrible customer service and a great way to make sure people never want to come back. OH also when I told them about my sudden illness, they gave me a free one month pass to use whenever I wanted, even though I said I dont know if I will ever be well enough to return. How kind!! *eye roll*.
After freezing my account during Covid I tried to cancel online. Without notifying me they continued to charge my card for several months despite my attempt to cancel. After reaching out to discuss what went wrong with my cancelation attempt they offered no help whatsoever. Awful customer service and a scam to keep people paying without their knowledge.
I just spoke with someone at the desk and sure enough.......To cancel a membership, one must call them back....They will then notify a membership advisor and theyll get back to you within 24-48hrs?Thats when you provide the written notice I guess, and that takes 30days?! Are we still talking about a gym membership? The desk clerk said its in the contract...hahahaha...wow.What happened to no problem, you have until the end of the monthNice gym but the process is definitely shadey and feels like they squeeze you for more money if you want out.. How ridiculous. In other words, if you want to cancel, youd better decide a month before hand! Because you WILL pay!Makes me want to join another gym off principal.
I really love CAC gyms are very clean compared to most. The staff are friendly and helpful the space is great! The locker rooms are always clean. It’s aesthetically pleasing and the equipment is pretty well maintained and up to date. Aside from these great factors I love the energy of the environment. People are there to get their workouts in and are mindful (respectful) of others. Noise levels are moderate but always respectful and that is exactly what I need. No one is in there to intimidate or challenge you (with the exception of a few bad apples SCREW THEM) 99% of the people there are focused on their goals. I moved out of Chicago and I am struggling to find a gym that compares. The price is a fair charge for what you get. CLEAN SAFE NICE ENVIRONMENT
Went today for the first time with my gympass account. Extremely nice front desk staff and the gym has all the equipment you would need (I do advanced workouts). Sure, maybe the equipment isnt brand new but it does have tons of options, plus swimming pool, tons of cardio equipment on the second floor. Not sure how much a membership costs here but very surprised with the low ratings.
This club has the best swimming pool, a 25 meter 5-lane pool, of all the CACs that I know of. Unfortunately, there is so much development surrounding it that is likely to be eaten up or that at some point parking will be impossible. Enjoy it while you can.
For the price best gym in chicago, most have parking which is super helpful and the people are not your typical gym bros. Many locations and all are very unique. My wife and i also were able to get the student discount and i received a discount for being a healthcare worker. Love the turf workout areas. Highly recommend!
The weights are never racked. Gym floor is always a mess. The sales staff lies and takes advantage of you. Very poor hours for commuters. The music is always blasting and obnoxious, even with your own headphones.
Pros: excellent 5 lane pool, huge weight room with a plethora of equipment and a clean facility. Cons: generally uninformed and unhelpful staff and blasting, misogynistic rap music - beyond offensive.
There are many personal trainers out there, but few personal trainers who have as vast an amount of specialized & diverse training, knowledge, experience sensitivity & dedication to her clients as my gym instructor. I highly recommend her for good reason.
During the pandemic they were closed and I moved away. Turned out, that they have been charging me the whole time for a year, which added up to 800$. I requested to cancel my membership and a refund, which they refused refused. A month later after my request, guess what, I see yet another charge on my bank account for a membership that I haven’t used in over a year and requested to cancel twice by now.
Great location, affordable, great customer service
My favorite gym in Chicago. Lots of natural light, chill vibe, quality machines.
Great staff, clean - and importantly for me a pool - a cement swimming pond. Indoors- but lap away.
I really love this gym. Ive been a member since 2014 and have access to all the clubs but this is my preferred one. It has everything that I need and more: a variety of group classes, lots of machines and a huge free weights area. Additionally there is a 25 meter pool and a Jacuzzi. Clean facilities and a friendly staff are a plus. I dont use a personal trainer but the ones with whom Ive spoken are friendly and helpful.
WLAC is doing its best to provide a safe environment for those who want to work out now. Sanitizing stations are easily found, with members reminded to wipe down equipment before and after use. Occupancy is very low, though I am usually there midday during the week.I would like to see more hand sanitizing supplies available on the floor. Still, the WLAC team us trying hard to maintain the environment.
It is good place, and it is very clean, but sometimes seems to be a little to crowded for being co-vid times.
This is a very nice gym.Things I like:Very cleanGreat equipmentPoolHot tubSaunaParkingFriendly StaffOpening hours - I used to go early morningI was a member for over a year and loved it. Had to move away unfortunately due to COVID.
Instructors for the various classes are all professionals. They also have many cardio machines available. I was satisfied with my experience here. I highly recommend this place to all my friends.
Gigantic gym. I never have trouble looking for a cardio gym at all. The weight area is also big but always seems occupied no matter what time. They have so many cleaning wipes you can use so the gym is always clean. The front desk people can be rude sometimes though.
This gym is nothing special and they have a hard time opening on time. Woman at front desk was extremely rude and put off when asked why the gym opened late. There wasn’t a manager on site so I asked for one to call me and gave phone number, but never received a call back. The equipment is outdated and tired. Most of the time the locker rooms aren’t clean.I would recommend staying away from this health club and the rude unprofessional staff. It would be a great location for a gym.
I give 3 stars because they usually keep the gym tidy and the personal trainer I had was cool. The gym itself is a scam. They contract their billing out to ABC financial. It is impossible to cancel your membership without a needlessly complicated process of emailing ABC or writing them a letter. Why can’t you just walk in and cancel?... so they can squeeze you for an extra month of membership fees by requiring a 30 day notice after you’ve sent a letter or email. So be aware of that before you sign up.Also they used to have this huge calisthenics area on the second floor. They renovated it into another room for classes. Why? To make more money on classes. Now there’s not much room left for calisthenics.Just don’t feel like giving them my money anymore.
This place is one of the best gyms I have went to. I think some people have trouble cancelling the membership or letting them know ahead about the membership ending period, so they dont come as a surprise. Gym wise, love the space it has. And is well maintained.
Ive been coming to the WAC for 3 years on average of 5 days a week, so I have a very thorough knowledge of the gym.Pros: well kept, clean, good variety of classes and equipment. Trainers are experienced and staff is quality.Cons: as much as it hurts me as Ive been so loyal to this place, they have truly reached critical mass during peak hours for weight lifters. Just the volume of humans in this facility at any given time has continued to expand. With many new residential buildings in the hood with more coming, you simply will not have access to key equipment and on the worst days, you cant even find floor space. For those who heavily rely on squat racks (only 3) and bench press (only 2) its not a feasible place to work out if youre forced to go during weekday peak hours. Weekends are generally much more manageable. If you stick to cardio, its generally adequate there as well.I get that some people would simply say dont go during peak hours... Okay cool, most of us have regular jobs that prevent this. I even spent a year on the 5am gym schedule and I still couldnt get a squat rack many mornings.Gym facility and team are a strong 4-5 star. Gym over capacity has declined to a 2 star until there is some sort of relief.
Ive been a member here for 10 years and counting.
Im a member of WAC for over 4 years and I love it. Environment, staff, classes, studios, people. Feels like home sweet home.
“Every day, once a day give yourself a present” Inspector Cooper said in “Twin Peaks”.This is my gift to myself everyday. It’s a premium gym comprising of considerate, neat and motivated members who don’t mind paying extra for well maintained equipments along with wet and dry saunas, warm clean towels and great quality overall. The locker room is clean and they provide you the best shampoo and soap. The staff is helpful and informed. Really worth the premium charges.
Management needs to do better at enforcing masks and helping clean
Enjoy all the CAC gyms- always clean, access to lots of equipment and classes. Like west loop best for amount of space and great pool and hot tub. Free parking too.
Nice
To the guy who finds it way to busy, peak hours are always busy. Its how a business stays alive. If it was empty, they would either have to charge more or go out of business. Try switching up your workout or substitute an exercise on a machine that isnt busy.To the lady that cant find a parking spot, this is Chicago... WAC has lots of parking but yes, not everyone can park in front of the building. To the guy that thinks everyone is on their phones, if you are lifting for bulk, the average rest time between sets is 3-5 min. On a 5 rep-5 set, that means 25 min of down time that people may use to check their emails or social media. To the lady who had problems canceling after a week, maybe you shouldnt have signed a year long contract; thats how contracts work in the real world. To the guy who likes his apartment gym better, honestly, no one reading these reviews cares. We dont all have gym apartments.
The gym was fine, nothing special but the customer service is despicable. I just tried to call and cancel my year membership and was faced with not 1 but 2 of the rudest employees I have ever dealt with. It would have been one thing if I just made a mistake and it was explained to me. But that is not what happened at all,I had questions about my membership and the billing and the only response I was given was thats your fault, we cant do anything Even after I asked to speak to a supervisor I was still given the same rude answer and ended up having to pay an extra month which I did not want. Not sure why they would want to force me into staying with their gym if I was already unhappy. I would not recommend getting a membership to anyone, the gym was just okay so it wasnt worth the hassle. There are much nicer gyms with way betting customer service in Chicago!
Terrible gym and rude staff. Now they want me to pay them for the time after they closed and are threatening collections. They are a joke.
Everything about the gym is wonderful except for the cancellation policy. Even if you think youve submitted a request to cancel, if they dont file it, expect to be paying heavily for it should you not follow up. Besides that, the customer service is either a hit or miss. In the morning, great people. Evening or afternoon, varies. I highly recommend you make absolutely certain that every request you submit is actually documented, even several months later, just to be safe. Had a great experience except for that. Really left a bitter feeling in me.
My second home. Extremely well priced for the amount of classes and amenities. The kids club staff is amazing and every class Ive taken I have enjoyed. Honestly couldnt believe people left bad reviews. The majority of equipment upstairs is new and they are currently renovating another area. Other gyms Ive looked into have crazy enrollment fees but there are often specials where the fee is waived. I joined in April and am so glad I did.
Way too crowded. Cancelled after a week. Almost every single free weight station and machine is in constant use. It takes twice as like long to lift as it should. I prefer the gym in my apartment honestly.
I have been part of the club for ~ 3 months now. So far everything has been good: clean facility, good pool not too crowded, easy access both with parking and by CTA, and reasonable membership rates. Only downside is: pool is heavily chlorinated, and they never got back to me about swim classes after 2-3 attempts (??). Overall I enjoy the best swim/pool, and ballet burn classes. I read negative reviews regarding membership but havent need to change my membership yet - will update my review if things change.
Very light crowd & clean facility. The lockers are not as far apart as I would like. It doesnt seem like all of them are 6 ft apart.
They have everything you need along with a cool atmosphere, friendly staff and a clean facility.
I was very pleased with the classes and the customer service. Their app is fun to use too! I have gone to this gym during the summers when I lived in the West Loop. I would go there again if I moved back.
Ive been a member for a few years now and have been happy here. Convenient parking, electronic lockers (no need to bring a lock), wide variety of amenities, and friendly staff. Only issue Ive had was an unresponsive Customer Service Manager who apparently doesnt know that returning phone calls or emails from members is part of the customer service job...
My favorite gym in the city. Sure, its not as plush as an Equinox, but the size, staff, and classes make up for it. They still have a sauna and steam room, so Im happy. The instructors appear to really love what they do, and stay on top of current (reputable) fitness trends. Evenings between 5-7 are pretty crowded like anywhere else, but after 7:30pm the place dies down.It is easy to feel at home, therefore easier to look forward to my workout!
One of the best of the CAC facilities. Free parking. Great selection of workout classes to participate in. Never too busy or overcrowded. The instructors are very helpful. Classes are fun. Great membership price. Ive been a member for a few months now and I love it.
While I have enjoyed the classes and staff, Chicago Athletics Clubs have an extremely misleading term of agreement for month-to-month members. Not presented up front, but hidden in the contract is the terms stating that you have to give them a 30-Day notice of cancellation from their program. This effectively forces you to pay for an extra month of service even though you are on a so-called month-to-month program. This happening despite the fact that it costs extra to have a month-to-month membership, with basically no difference between it and a normal one. Also, during the time we were members at the Club, they completely devalued their point system by eliminating it entirely. All incentives that had been earned by going to the Club were lost. While technically not violating any of their terms or policies that you have to sign, they are misleading in the naming and pricing of their memberships. They should have a more ethical approach to business and be up-front about any potential fees and cancellation requirements.
Great gym, location is extremely accessible and the community really friendly and personable. only thing I miss in a gym is an indoor track. It has everything else you could ask for: saunas, basketball court, pool, hot tub, classes. Absolutely love this gym.
You can’t cancel membership never !!! It’s fraud company
Pros: Nice staff, very clean, great classes included with initial fee, and everyone is serious about working outCons: Closes early, needs more machines
Very clean well maintained gym. They really know what they are doing.
Hey I’m typing this review as someone overweight and trying to get back into things with enthusiasm- not someone who’s already in shape and wouldn’t keep it real about what the experience is like. People out there researching gyms, this is for you. My excitement with joining this gym started with an amazing Body Pump class with my best friend that left me sore for three days but made me feel great because I pushed myself. I joined be WAC for that reason. While their classes and amenities are nice, what I don’t like is that:1. There’s not enough space in some of these classes. I don’t want to be so close on someone that I feel like I would accidentally hit them in the face. There’s also already been a few times where there just wasn’t any space at all for me. I can’t tell you how disheartening that is. It’s seriously like Sparta 300 to get into some of these classes. I’ve experienced this at three different locations. You have to be a minimum of 30 minutes early to get into the ones that really challenge you. And when you’re coming straight from work, that’s really tough. It’s clear your classes are popular and you need a bigger space. Also it would be nice if there were more classes offered later considering the volume of people and many of us not being able to workout until after 5pm.2. Some of the weightlifting equipment needs to be spread out. If I can’t get into one of these classes, I’d like to know I have the option to use other equipment. That’s really hard when everything’s in one room and there’s consistently about 20 dudes using the weightlifting equipment.3. All classes offered should have at least a short portion of the class for beginners where instructors explain what kind of maneuvers are about to be done. The gym is composed of more than just people looking to stay in shape. Some of us have never done some of these things before and while it’s cool to just jump in, there’s no way we’re going to know a whole routine of a class that other members have probably been there for at least a few weeks to learn.I just don’t feel like I’m getting as much as everyone else on these reviews out of this membership. Now I’m committed to a year of primarily using roughly four machines and taking classes apparently when I get lucky that there’s space. And considering everyone’s consistency that it’s nearly impossible to cancel, I’m beyond frustrated.
I work out here a few times a week. This place has everything which I really like. i dont feel confined to one area or feel I dont have a lot of options of how I want to exercise. Really like this place.
Love the facility here. It’s Very large and they always maintain cleanliness. The fitness centre has many machines so never have to wait for any weights or cardio equipment. The pool is very good with clean water and a great place to swim.
You get a lot for what you pay for. Under $100/month gets you access to the full gym, a ton of classes and a pool. Most of the gyms in the area charge twice that much for just classes and limited gym equipment with limited access. It may be the times I go but I never have to wait for equipment. Theres plenty to go around. The staff seems friendly and if you work out at the same time everyday, the regulars become a little friendly community, not chit-chatty-interrupt-your-workout friendly, just a nod and a smile and help you out if you need it. Its nice.
Too many members, too little parking. Tried to cancel, they wouldnt let me. Then I realized I may be able to cancel since I moved 25 miles away. They then stated I was only 23 miles away (guess it depends on which route mapquesmapquest picks up at the time of search). If you want to constantly wait for a machine because someone is sitting playing on their phone. This gym is for you.ABC financial is ruining any last good thoughts that I did have about chicago athletic clubs.Make sure you dont sign a year contract until you are completely satisfied with the service you are getting.
Much more like a training facility / wellness center than your standard gym!I like that its well lit, always clean, the people are really friendly, and they machines and equipment never seem to be broken or out-of-order.
I was a member at WAC for a few years. For the most part it was a fine experience. Unfortunately ABC Financial handles their billing. This means cancelling your membership is going to be a huge headache and most likely result in you being charged for extra time you didn’t want. This tarnished my otherwise decent opinion of the gym. Other than the billing, it gets a little overcrowded so lifting and parking during the week can be difficult.
Great part of the local area
Great facility
They are very nice, until you have an issue, or need help. The one amenity I need from my gym is customer service. The facility is nice, the staff, not so much.
Absolutely love this gym, which is part of the CAC Athletic Club family. Great facilities, great employees, great hours and unlimited classes. Oh, and did I mention free parking? Cant ask for more in my opinion!
While I went to this gym briefly, I was happy with the gym and the gym staff. However due to circumstances of me moving, I had attempted to cancel the gym, on March 14th, 2017. Today is August 9th, 2007 that is almost 5 months later, and I am still going back and forth chasing them for a cancellation. They claim they never received my request, however I received an email receipt sent by them that they received my request. Messages back and forth ever since, without an offered solution to me, and still without the cancellation even though my move evidence has been submitted. Its a shame that a gym like this tries to make their money by dragging out cancellations. My colleagues and friends go to this gym and I will advise them to cancel a year prior to their needed cancel date.
Love the facility. Hate the hours! Wish it was open until midnight to accommodate my schedule!
Love this place! There are a ton of classes and the staff is so friendly. Definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for a new gym.
Terrible cancellation policies. Know what youre getting into when you join. You need to cancel 30+ days before your membership renewal date
I signed up for the club last year because they had full facilities (swimming, basketball, classes, etc...). I travel a lot for work and was out of the country for a few months and came back to see that the club now rents out the basketball court to Chicago Sports and Social 5 DAYS a week during the most peek times of the day. Has anyone heard of a club where you pay $80 a month and have to deal with something like this? I complained several times but the club refuses to let me out of my contract. I would recommend you pay more for other clubs that dont do this or join X-sport because they dont even do stuff like this. How is this even legal? Shouldnt the members get a portion of the revenue?
Love the live DJ spin class! Ive also never had to wait for cardio equipment and everything is well maintained. Awesome
Everything you need to know about how this business is this: They have outsourced their customer service arm, that handles cancellations, to ABC financial, a credit collection agency. The gyms policies are predatory. When you cancel, you cant even speak to a person who works at CAC - you speak directly to the collection agency. The contract requires members to cancel a full 30 days before their next billing date. This is a gym that provides a service, not perishable baked goods. There is no legitimate reason for this policy, other than to scam members into paying for an extra month of gym that they cant use after they move.I joined this gym on a 3-month contract. I informed them that I would be moving on March 31 (I informed them of this in January) and told them that i did not want them to renew the contract afterwards. I went in mid-march to confirm that my contract would stop on April 4, and they referred me to a collection agency for customer service. The collection agency then told me that I would be charged for the extra month, despite my initial conversation with the salesperson indicating - in January - that I did not wish for my contract to renew.I then requested that they remove my credit card from autopay. The response was that they would remove the credit card from autopay, and my contract would not be cancelled until the final bill was paid. This is not how contracts work.
An extra ordinary gym, lovely staff, excellent facilities, this is your gym if you like thing clean and organised.
My favorite of all the west side athletic clubs. Its the oldest but most spacious and obviously the parking lot is a gem.
Absolutely LOVE this gym! I have run the gamut on gym memberships, from Planet Fitness to local gyms to XSport Fitness to Anytime....this is by far the best Ive ever been to for several reasons:LOVE taking group classes and not only do they have a TON every day and a wide variety, but they have them in prime 9-5er hours, meaning people who work typical work hours still have plenty of early morning or later evening options. Almost every day there is a class that doesnt start until 6:45 which is plenty of time to get home, change, and get to the gym.The staff and instructors. Theyre all amazing! Front desk workers are always friendly, helpful and welcoming. Instructors are personal, passionate, and know how to push you just hard enough :)Locker rooms are always clean and spacious. Have participated in almost all the classes: TRX, Heavy Hitters and Spin are my favorites!
Bad customer service.
Clean gym, reasonable prices, and an excellent staff. Brindon was especially helpful in getting me signed up.
West Loop is a great gym, they keep it very clean, it has excellent equipment, and the staff is friendly. Cant ask for more than that!
Great club! The gym is clean and instructors are the best!!! A lot of classes!
Wide array of classes, tons of equipment, and a pool. Very happy I switched from Cardinal.
It used to be great gym but latley its not that cool place anymore. My experience with managers was horrible, they don’t appreciate their members at all but the trainers are good.
Good to work out here
Typed in indoor basketball court in Google. Not the facilitys fault, but needs to be fixed
Garbage gym, enough said
On line account management is crap at best
Pretty dope spot
Gym is expensive and really messy. Specially showers are full of hair all the time. Im a member but going to quit.
Excellent gym
Love it
