Fairly new to FFC. First time at this location. Parking is a nightmare and Loca84 is currently closed until further notice. I left hungry but I appreciate the cleanliness and kind staff.
I like this gym for the price. Its basic and has what I need. Its clean, staff is nice and its much better than the FFC West Loop. Rather than being so much of a social gym where people are in no rush and on cellphones, this gym has an older crowd than the other and commuters. They want to be in and out quickly in general. Theres a hot tub in mens washroom, shop selling clothes and other items, massage place, personal trainers, pool etc.. its got a weird layout and that doesnt bother me. Not sure what their classes are like. you
Posting this on behalf of my husband. He likes the gym but he’s been trying to cancel for the last few months since he’s working from home and hasn’t been using the gym for over a year. Despite various attempts to call and cancel and doing whatever they ask, we have still been charged monthly repeatedly. Recently he called and they said the manager would call him back. Instead, he just received an email with another link to follow. I have no idea if this time it’ll work and we haven’t heard anything about getting refunded for the last few months. It shouldn’t be this hard to cancel a gym membership!
When the pandemic hit, i requested my account be frozen. which they did. they called me a dozen or so times over the spring asking me to come back, and i declined. they then stopped calling me and began charging me again, even though they were not picking up their phones all summer. they are refusing any kind of refund. taking advantage of a pandemic to make a quick buck.
Nice gym. Absolutely terrible customer service. I cancelled my membership in August due to moving- I was told it would be cancelled and I wouldnt be charged after July. Starting this October, Ive been getting charged $90 a month. Ive called numerous times to the billing department and no one will answer my call- Im told theyre busy and will call me back in 20 minutes yet no one calls. This has happened continually. What would be a 5-10 minute phone call with FFC has become a month long issue.
Sensitivity Training NeededWednesday afternoon, I visited the Union Station FFC as a new resident of the area. While at the desk, I shared with the young man, whose name I cannot recall. I just purchased a condo around the corner from the gym and wanted to know if I could work out here, although I am an FFC South Loop member. He shared the thought that it should be okay, and around this time, the GM, Luann Santo, was approaching the desk. In short, I went through the prelude with her, and her statement was, “I’m not sure if I can let you in to play basketball.” I would like to park by this imaginary curb to acknowledge, and I never had a basketball in my hands.Unbeknownst to Ms. Santo or not, her comment presented many missed opportunities. For starters, she should have taken the time to look at my account for further understanding. Secondly, she missed an opportunity to choose her words wisely and thereby leading to my last and most important reason for reaching out to Executive management. Her statement is rooted in racial and gender stereotypes. As a leader, not only do I reflect before speaking, but my words are also chosen carefully. In that same breath, we as leaders should develop our teams in the same fashion. Missed opportunities are a part of life; however, thought consciousness, carefully chosen words, and racial and gender stereotypes at Ms. Santo’s leadership level are inexcusable. I do not desire that she reach out to me with some recommend apology from her leadership team; however, she understands her actions seriousness and attends sensitivity training.
I went in to cancel my membership because my work hours changed and did not coincide with FFCS. Instead of cancelling the membership as I asked, it was put on hold. When I went back to rejoin they told me my account was charged off and I owed a month or so. When I went in to clear up the matter I was told Im sorry I forgot. I realize everyone makes mistakes. After reopening after the Corona incident, I tried to join at another location and the same thing happened. They still had not cleared up the matter. For the excessive rates of $100 per month I think they would be better at handling accounts. The location worked for me so I was willing to pay more. Now their hours have been cut and weekends too. I was told it was because the membership was so low. The other locations did not cut their hours. No cut in the price. There is no more two hour parking. The parking lot was torn down. They offered parking at one point four blocks away. If you dont make it back within two hours, you have to pay downtown rates. I guess Ill have to check my credit report. The FFC could invest in giving the manager some classes at a customer service charm school. He acts as though FFC doesnt need new membership or has to keep the present membership. Corporate better listen to itscustomers. The future of the Union station location looks bleak. Overall, it was a decent place to workout.
I recently signed up to this gym and I love it! I was a bit scared to join a gym again with covid, but FFC took all that fear away. The gym is very clean & and everything is spaced out pretty well. There are so many different sections it has all my needs. Alan the rep that signed me up has been so helpful! It’s nice to find a sales person that actually cares about their clients.! I would definitely recommend this gym.
Veronica is the best!!!!! She makes my day when I see her!!
I was moving out of town for a few months and tried to freeze my account. I was told over the phone that I would not be charged, but they (1) raised my membership rate and (2) failed to freeze my account. I racked up multiple hundreds of dollars of bills for a gym membership that I did not use and they would not work with me at all on the costs.Choose a gym instead with better customer service.
AVIOD, AVOID, AVOID - this gym invited their cleaning staff back, had them get the gym ready and THEN FIRED THEM ALL WHEN THE GYM WAS READY TO GO. There are moral and ethical concerns with the Union Station location, the GM Dan is top 5 most rude and offers no solutions only problems.Canceling with this gym has been an absolute nightmare, they send confusing emails with wording that youll need to be a lawyer to understand. My membership was on freeze and I received an email asking to reactivate & if I wished to remain on freeze do nothing. So I did nothing and next thing you know Im getting charged, so I call to cancel and get the run around on the process. FINALLY, I get an email from a random woman with a link to cancel you send it in and hoping it works. I think charging people without sending them a HEY WERE ABOUT TO START CHARGING YOU AGAIN email is sneaking and poor business practice, ESPECIALLY DURING A PANDEMIC. Literally the CEO emails you to tell you what he had for lunch, but cant inform his customers that theyre about to get charged again...SHADY.I wouldnt recommend FFC to my worst enemys worst enemy.
Great place to get a workout in during the workday as its across the street from my building. A lot of the amenities I dont use, so I wouldnt be willing to pay the monthly fee if it werent for the convenience of being across the street from my work
Great gym, Matt is really good powerlifting coach. Want to get stronger fast? Work with Matt
Like many people have stated before me, Bob Dowdy knows how to run a gym with high customer satisfaction. I have been coming to this FFC location for 3 years and every time I go, the staff and management make me feel as if I were family. The equipment at the gym is top notch and well maintained, the layout is spacious and covers all your needs, and the pool is the best out of all the FFC locations.I have been to almost all other FFC locations, with the exception of Gold Coast and Oak Park. Union Station FFC stands, in my opinion, as one of my top three favorites (along with Lincoln Park and West Loop).Job well done Bob!
I lost my wallet in the locker room. After looking back in the locker and around the locker room for a while, I figured it was gone. I stopped by the desk and asked if anyone had found a wallet. She confirmed who I was and made a few calls, and one of the attendants had found it! Thank you to Robert and your attentive staff for finding, securing, and returning the wallet to me!
Great gym and very courteous staff. Basketball is competitive and fun. Trainers are top notch and the massage therapists, especially Aaron Gunn, are fantastic. The gym assistants are always very helpful. Would recommend.
The staff at FFC is phenomenal. Desiree in the front office is always extra helpful and attentive. Also kudos to PT James and front desk staff Michael.
I would like to start off by saying I rarely write reviews. The only reason I am writing this today is to warn potential gym members about the very bad experience I received here.I signed up for a FFC membership in late-January. During the registration process the representative and I agreed on a reduced initiation fee. This was a huge selling point for me since I travel a lot for work so I signed up right then and there. After going over the contract details (annual fees, monthly rates, etc.), I completed the registration process and left the facility very pleased. I was so happy, I even got my girlfriend to sign up that following Monday.By the time February came around, I received my first bill and called the front office to walk through the charges. When I spoke with the General Manager, Bob, I discovered the representative who I signed up with had manipulated the rates by splitting the reduced initiation fee into two installment plans. Therefore, I paid the full initiation fee when I signed up and on the third month of my membership. When explaining the situation with Bob, he was unsympathetic since I was past the amount of days I could cancel and receive my refund. All in all, I would not recommend this gym. The front office is dishonest and will do anything to make a sale. Additionally, the General Manager has very poor customer service. I would advise anyone who is looking for a gym to look elsewhere and take my experience into consideration before signing up here.
Great location, staff are super friendly, mens locker rooms are spotless and they are constantly upgrading. One peeve, the difficulty in getting a simple bottle of water; in other locations you can grab one as you check in and charge it to your account, but here its a performance. They got rid of the vending machines and to get a bottle of water you need to go to the juice bar in the lobby where one extremely sweet but overworked, multitasking lady has to fit in selling you a bottle of water in between making smoothies - most of the time I just give up. Why so difficult ? Especially since the mark-up on water is so much in their interest. The parking arrangement with the Union Station Parking garage seems to have hit a rough patch, endorsed tickets are not accepted by the garage and you have to pay. The garage says its FFCs fault, the FFC people say its the garage - someone needs to walk a mere 100 feet across the street and sort it out. Otherwise I would give the location five stars but they need a couple of easy fixes first.
Bob Dowdy knows how to run a gym with customer satisfaction. He took control of an issue for me and is a great guy! Also I enjoy the boxing room and the Premier membership that includes a FREE massage every month!
I wish that there was an option for less than one star - worst experience ever. First of all, the justification for the enrollment fee is that it is to maintain the gym. If that is the case, why are your membership fees so high? I enrolled in mid-July and was told that I could use my card for payment but that they were moving towards checking debits. I am actually still amazed that I joined with the ridiculous enrollment fees but that is a different story. I was charged $50 today for not providing my checking account number. Please keep in mind that no one ever told me that there was a time limit on providing my checking account. I was told that there was no way of reversing the charge. I was already feeling uneasy about my membership as the people working at the club are a bit snooty. I decided to cancel my membership at this point. I was told, we do not want to lose you. I said, it is pretty simple, just waive the $50 since there was no notice provided to any type of time limit to provide my checking account information. I was told that this could not be done so I cancelled my membership. This gym is a joke. I only joined out of convenience...I take the Metra to work and wanted a place to swim. It is certainly not worth the unusually high monthly rate nor the enrollment fee, nor the rudeness you experience while at the gym. Stay away.
High enrollment fee. Certain sales persons are not friendly. Dont go there. You can easily find a better one in downtown. I was with FFC since 2010. I rejoined the FFC union station early 2016, and paid the enrollment fee $275. They told me I will get credit back to my FFC account if I showed up 36 out of first 90 days. I miss calculating for one day. So no refund, no negotiation. Ok, that is my fault. I got it. Then due to my work schedule and previous enrollement joke. I quit from FFC union station. Now, I moved back to Chicago, tried to rejoin again. I tried to talk to Bob. Guess what, Bob, the manager, let one of his sales pass the word to me that I need to pay enrollment fee AGAIN, while he was in the office next door ! I accept the fact. But I dont accept such a cold attitude for a long term member before.
The gym is pretty decent. The “ general manager “ Dan was rude and uninviting and didn’t know what he was doing when I came there.
This gym has everything you need. The floor can get a bit crowded during busier times, but Im going to give a 5 star rating just for the personal training experience alone. I worked with Benjamin during my very first training session. I dont typically workout (LIKE AT ALL, I KNOW NOTHING) but I finally decided to do something about my weight and lifestyle. I typically go to FFC West Loop to see my RDN, Emily Marshall and workout on my own, but I came over to Union Station for a group training class exclusive to Formulife RX members (a membership I highly recommend for beginners with health issues or concerns BTW), and just by chance, the woman who typically runs the class was out of town and the other clients who regularly attend the class were absent, so a class I was joining for the first time turned into a personal training session. Needless to say, I got lucky because Benjamin is an awesome trainer. If I decide to add personal training sessions to my membership in the future, Ill definitely look for Ben.
I dont know what changed but this place is a whole new club . Great experience, staff is incredible. Energy and environment are 100%. Definitely major improvements and great club
Excellent gym. with Friendly Staff. Bob, the manager, is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I LOVE this gym!
Booo
Great gym but west loop location has newer equip. good access for commuters and reasonable price for downtown
I came here to do Zumba for YSLs event here -- I was really motivated to come here again if I were to want to exercise on a daily basis. Huge space with two floors. And depending on where you are located you can see the Chicago river right out the window. Its full of people exercising -- different sections of equipment use. Staff is extremely friendly and make you feel welcome. It is right in the heart of downtown Chicago so if you work nearby, easy walk to get there. Also youre literally in close contact with 2 train stations - the Union Station and the OTC stations. What more can you ask for?
Actually their gym is awesome, the equipment is good, but the whole stuff about their membership is stupid, you must be pay the enrollment fee to join the club, theirs no way out. I just stay in Chicago for a month. and i have to pay the stupid enrollment fee. thats crazy! you guys should be felxible!
Service was decent, rather quick. Space is laid out well. Friendly customer service.
The gym itself is decent (aside from absurd rules about dropping bumper plates on a weightlifting platform, while weightlifting...), but they have quite possibly the worst customer service Ive ever encountered. They will say anything to get you to sign up, then blame any misunderstandings on you.
The equipment are new and well maintained. The group classes are awesome. I like Zumba by Dominicks and Chesel by Antonio.
Love this gym, great trainers, excellent staff, good facilities.
Great staff and Great facility
I would never step foot in any FFC gyms again. Unetheical, dirty, and over priced.
Really hoping they can create more space for functional movement exercises on main exercise floor, saw very little square footage on main floor devoted to that and static exercise or endless treadmills are antiquated modes of exercise.
Only open until 3pm on Saturday and Sunday?! I work until 6 both days, really inconvenient. Will be cancelling.
Very bad service and the staff just dont help customer at all especially on your membership promotion. They just try to get your money out of our pocket.
I had a similar experience to the ones described by many others at FFC. The customer service was poor, and the billing department behaved unethically. I would not sign up again.
The best gym in Chicago !!
