I used to come here for a basic haircut when I lived near the area. The place is very friendly and professional. The business is very original has a taste of a personal brand.My preferred barber was Yvonne. Shes one of the best and she always gave great service every time I visited. Shes my personal recommendation if you come by and visit.Im no longer living nearby, so I miss the place. But if youre in need of a haircut, definitely come to this place.

Went in for a haircut with Pete (got a previous one from his brother as well) - they really take care of you and make sure you are getting the haircut you want and look your best. Great people and very professional here. Well worth the money

Pete & Mitch have been the guys my partner and I reserve with but Ive heard great things about literally all of them. Nice community feel, everyone is friendly and very relaxed. Every time I leave there, I feel like a million bucks! Mens haircuts start at $26. (Though I leave $40 everytime) Reserve on their website and check it out!!! :)

Since moving here in July I only went to Arturs. There was a female barber there who was amazing I found out later my next appointment shes no longer there. So tried the other barbers there and just was not happy with their work. So I decided to try Father and Sons and unfortunately same result charged too much for a haircut that I am not happy with. I have zero issue paying money for a good haircut but neither place has impressed me to where I want to go back. First picture is the picture of the haircut I wanted minus the hard part due to my hair growing very quickly. The second is what I ended up with. I also told the barber I want the top of my hair shorter he maybe cut 1/4 inch of hair off. I also requested my hair be thinned out some due to how thick my hair is when its not thinned out I sweat profusely which ends up causing massive ingrown hairs at the nape of my neck which are painful and neck and back acne. I would be willing to have a different barber from Father and Sons correct this. But I will not pay for a correction that should not have had to happen. Its people like this that cause people to go elsewhere.

First, this is not directed to the whole Father & Son staff, as I have received wonderful quality service in the past from Mick and Mitch, however the last 2 times I booked Yvonne as my usual barbers were not available. She did a great job the first time therefore I booked her again today. I even brought a picture of the last haircut because I wanted the same cut.To my surprise I noticed she was cutting way to short, specially in the front and when I pointed that out she freaked out. I had to ask her to make it proportional, as nothing was looking right at that point. Just to add some color, when she was fixing it (or trying to) she kept saying “it will grow out in a week” over and over while making panic-cuts on top of my head. I left the place shocked. I knew it was a mess but I couldn’t speak up or complain.I grew my hair for 5 months to be able to style it as I like it and when I though it couldn’t be worst I took a shower at home and noticed that it’s all uneven, I can’t even fix it with gel or style it different. This is by far the worst haircut I ever had.I understand that everyone could have a bad day at work, but I cannot get over the “it will grow out in a week” sort of apology, and the rush for taking me out of that chair.I hope this feedback helps this great local establishment, and in particular to this barber, to grow some accountability skills.Respectfully,

I have been going to Joey for a long time now. He does and great job. This time I got my haircut short by showing him a pic of me years ago and the haircut I had at that time. He did amazing job. He cut it just like I wanted it. He is a good conversationalist and sincere.

I’ve been going to Father and Son for a few years now and I have to say I’ve never walked out disappointed. This place is by far the top spot on the north side. Every barber here is awesome and will go above and beyond for their clients. Personally, I get my hair cut by Martin and I can’t say enough about how great he is every time. Ive gotten two haircuts from Martin now and Ive been really happy with both. Looking around it seems like everyone is pretty good there. They are definitely taking precautions and it feels safe. I tried a few places in the area before I found them but I am done trying. The prices are average for the area but the work is better in my opinion. There are Tvs you can see from all the chairs and no one has tried to push any product on me which I appreciate.

My family has been coming here 20 years, beginning when it was on Thorndale. Pete is like family. Today is my first time to get in the chair!!!! Mitch did an amazing job on my beard. I got new glasses and getting compliments on beard and glasses.

We love this barber shop for our family! We have young children and everyone who works their is so patient with our squirmy boys. They make the boys comfortable and make the haircut so much easier. Plus they give a great cut. Absolutely love it here and highly recommend!

Not that great of a haircut. Thought that Mitch could have asked more questions if he wasnt sure about my cut. I explained what I wanted and showed pictures of my cut I received from a different place and really liked. I sat too far away from the mirror to be able to see the process, but was very surprised when I got home to see that my hair was almost completely cut off. A skin fade doesnt mean you cut the hair to zero almost across the entire side of the head. If I was going for a militant cookie cutter cut, Id have been happy. Not sure what to suggest here... I guess I could have been more specific, but I also didnt feel there was much finesse from the barbers side.

So I normally wait for about 3 visits to leave a review for a new barber. I was referred to Yvonne by a friend of mine who always has an impeccable haircut. Yvonne and I immediately clicked and shes done a consistently excellent job on my hair, to the point where I always tip her damn near 100%. If you love attention to detail, and awesome conversation go see Yvonne.

Great hair cut as always but most importantly, right now, they are doing all the COVID mitigation measures. Appointments only, chairs sperated by plexiglass for waiting (if you have to wait, I waited less than 5 minutes), temp checks, masks on everyone. Their app makes making an appointment (and cancelling if needed) super easy.

I’ve been going to Mitch there forever. He’s always super great! He was on vacation (how dare he take time to relax?!) so I got a little worried that someone else wouldn’t be as good as him. Yvonne was available and we were gonna try something a little bit edgier for me which I was scared about, but she did an amazing job. I woke up this morning and felt super cute even without combing my hair. I’ve never had a bad hair moment at Father & Son.

This place is great! I went to a previous barbershop who cut my hair uneven and Doug fixed all my lines and made my hair look great. I can’t wait to become a regular and go back to Doug since he put my hair exactly how I envisioned.

Every time I go I get a great cut, I love how efficient they are. You can choose your regular barber or open for walk in hair cuts. This place is consistently busy which shows what a great job they are doing. Remember they are cash only, and prices changed recently, but its still worth it for a fantastic cut!

Excellent. The best shop in the North side. Arrive early and give yourself plenty of time. Worth the wait (start to finish is usually about an hour.) Cash only, but there is a Chase across the street. The barbers know exactly what they are doing. Reasonable and fair prices. Never disappointed.

I decided to come with my friend to get a haircut since my barber didn’t have any openings for the weekend and I was leaving for winter break. I decided to go with Mitch and when he asked me what I wanted, I asked for a 0-2 on the sides and back. I also told him that I liked the length that I had on top and that I wanted to maintain it, so I asked if he could just cut the ends off. Mitch didn’t ask any questions so I assumed he was just going to use the guidelines that I had from my previous haircut. Unfortunately that was not that case. Mitch took the 2 all the way up to my part with a high 0 and then proceeded to cut a good amount off the top as well, with one side being shorter than the other. It’s unfortunate because although I could have communicated better, Mitch was not very attentive either and did not want to take the time to ask me exactly how I wanted my haircut. For anyone deciding to try this barber shop out for the first time, be proactive and tell them exactly what you want, or else they will just guess rather than taking the extra minute or two to ask you themselves.

Ive been coming here for a couple years now. Bring cash and a good idea of what you want and youre good to go. The wait increases after about 1130am so come earlier if possible. I get my hair cut by mick because he spends so much time on you. Ive never had somebody care so much to detail. He knows how particular I am and cares that my hair is that important to me. Mick, RJ, the brothers that own the place and literally every barber in there have a great personality and talent. You cant go wrong for a good hair and beard trim. They always have a great laugh and will include everybody. They support the gay community in there and that means a lot to me as I grew up around insecure straight men who didnt. It makes me feel like an amazing ally to the LGBTQ community to come and get my hair cut by such talented and hilarious people. This place is a hidden gem!

Best barbershop I have ever been too. I spent a whole lot of time looking for a great shop where I can go and take my kids too. I found Father and Son and have never stopped going there. Great group of guys that are friendly and kind. My son used to freak out during hair cuts but Pete was very calm and now he loves going there. They are all great barbers.

Made my first visit there, and Ill definitely be back! I went in after about 9 months since my last haircut and it was getting really long. Its also been quite a while that Ive also been needing a beard trim. When I got there I wasnt sure how I wanted my hair cut. But Martin went with my minimal request and did a fantastic job with my hair and beard trim. I look much better now than I had imagined before I walked in. The place has a nice vibe to it, and its clean & modern with the barbers stations adding a nice nostalgic feel to the place.

Truly a gem in Edgewater. This shop is family owned and operated and has a rich history. Every single barber here is great, but personally I go to Pete every time. The cut is always great and they make you feel like family when you walk in. It is a very popular place so plan accordingly. Saturdays are very busy all day.

I went here since my regular barber of three years had to call in sick. I was heading out of the country for a few weeks and needed something rather quickly and boy, do I regret it. I had so much confidence with the high ratings and despite getting a reassuring “I know what you mean! I got you!” to my requests, he immediately proved he didn’t know what I meant. An example of that biggest frustration was stating clearly that I would like for him to leave my sideburns alone as I took some pride in how they are - and it was one of the first things he chopped off. Another is how I also asked to not have it too short at the top of the fade I’m sure you can imagine the outcome; short as I’ve never had before and so uneven that I immediately notice it in any reflection. Overall, it may be good for what it is, but I don’t recommend one rely on this to become their new go-to shop.

All the guys, and gal, are always super friendly. Even when I have to wait longer than Id like to have my hair cut I wouldnt consider going anywhere else! Great haircuts and super friendly people, you cant ask anything more!

Best Barber shop in the Chicago land area!

I’ve been coming here for haircuts for four years and haven’t gotten an even mediocre haircut once. I don’t have the easiest hair to cut and they’ve always done a great job. Other than a great cut it’s just a nice environment and the prices are very reasonable. I’m not sure what that one guy who gave one star is on about. Maybe he should have given more specific directions than “not too short.” That’s awfully subjective.

Fast and butch local barber shop where I have never had a haircut and beard trim here that I didnt absolutely love. Its always busy but I really like their walk in system/name board. If you wanna talk theyll talk to you but I prefer to just relax and theyll let you do you. No fuss, just good hair. They also have a good proportion of LGBTQ customers and barbers (inluding me) which is very nice. My beard couldnt be happier.

Walked in and immediately got a great cut. Hard to beat a $20 cut including the straight razor. Came out clean and the service was great. Highly recommend it. If you need a walk-in spot this place is clutch

I come here when my regular hair stylist of 10+ years is either on vacation or we have conflict in our schedules but I’m always very happy with the results, I’ve had Pete cut my hair few times now and his brother as well, yesterday I had Ivonne cut my hair and I couldn’t be happier. The guys at Father & Son are the best. Youll get a great haircut for a reasonable price. Ive gotten my hair cut by most of the barbers, and Ive been pleased with the cut each time. There can be a long wait, especially on Saturday mornings, but you can call ahead and have them put your name on the board.

Simply the best barbershop on the North Side. True to the name, theyre a family run shop with generations of experience. Theyve also adapted to the changing community with a diverse staff of barbers who take anyone and everyone. Wait times on Saturday can mean sitting for hours, but if youre looking for a place to wait it out, they have plenty of distractions to keep you busy and entertained.

I love this barber shop. All barbers are very friendly and do a great job. Saturday mornings are tough if you get there too much after opening because there can be about an hour wait. Prices and service are great. Gay-friendly and family-friendly.

Always friendly guys, so many dedicated regular patrons go there. Soccer usually on the TVs on Saturdays. Great with kids haircuts. Queues can be very long, an hour at a busy time - take a book! Most people queue to wait for their specific regular barber

I went on a weekday. No waiting time. The hair cut was super fast, in 10 min I was out.

They dont take appointments and they get so busy that they focus on how fast they can cut your hair instead of how good of a haircut they provide. I asked for a scissor cut and they gave me a buzz anyways.

Even though they are a tad more than Supercuts I think its more than worth the money.There were quite a few guys ahead of me when I signed in on the whiteboard but they managed to get through everyone in a timely manner. Long story short is that with little explanation I got the hair cut I wanted and had fun joining in the conversation that was going on at the time. Definitely worth a try and I will be going back when the time comes.
