Been to this Barber shop twice from the time I was in Chicago. My haircut is always done by Wayne. One of the best barbers who has given me the haircut I wanted every time. Takes his time to get you the haircut the way you want it. No fancy stuff. For $20 (+Tips) you can get a very good haircut!. A must visit. Thank you Wayne!

I just moved into this neighborhood and was searching for a decent barber shop. Got recommended from here and skeptical of how it’d turn out to be. As soon as I entered felt like I’ve time traveled to 1920-30s. The way the shop has been setup is simply amazing! The staff is so friendly and listened to the kind of haircut I was asking for. Nicholas is amazing! I probably had one of the best haircuts here! Barely waited for 5 minutes or so! Would love to go again and again! Great work folks, keep the good work going!!!

Three stars because it was a $20 haircut after all + tip. Nicholas needs to learn how to trim behind the ears properly. I shouldnt have to clean up at home with my beard trimmer after paying for a haircut. Pretty cool guy otherwise.

Great experience getting a haircut. Nicholas Britton was polite, efficient and professional. The haircut was for $20 but deserved more for sure. Didnt have any cash to tip sadly but will be sure to give extra for a good service. They prefer cash btw.

Ive had good experiences in the past, but my barber today has me thinking I wont return. He was late for our appt and, more importantly, didnt confirm on length before cutting, so I walked out with hair an inch shorter than Id like. He was pretty irritable throughout so maybe he woke up on the wrong side of the bed, but think Ill be going elsewhere in the future.

Classic Barbershop. Ive been going here for 4 years and have been happy every time. Many of the barbers have been here for years and are loved by their loyal clients. I recommend Veronica though the few times I have needed to get a haircut when she wasnt there I was still very happy with the results. This place doesnt take reservations. You put your name on a chalkboard with the name of the stylist you want.

I didn’t know they were cash only but was still able to pay with Venmo which was extremely convenient. Definitely going to be returning for all my future haircuts!

Ive been here multiple times now and always come out with a clean cut. In the past, I have tried out other barber shops and hair salons around the neighborhood but was never satisfied and a few awful ones too. Ive had a chance to have 3 different barbers at Gabbys and each one are fantastic at what they do. I always go in feeling comfortable knowing that Ill be coming out looking fresh. I even brought a friend last time and he told me he will be coming here regularly after getting his haircut from Wayne.However, there are times when they are busy and get behind schedule even when you may have booked an appointment. But I dont mind the wait since I always take this into consideration. I would usually give 4 stars for that minor issue, but since Im really happy with each haircut they totally deserve 5 stars.

Im pretty happy with my haircut, the barbershop is very old fashioned. You need to write your name on the wall. Waiting line was pretty long but needed to wait only around 30mins. Haircut is $18 which is super price in Chicago.Cheers,Gedi

Best barber shop in the neighborhood hands down(we took our son to some of the nearest in the neighborhood - when we moved to the area). The wait is worth it, sometimes there isnt much. Our son prefers going here and it is very conveniently located. It doesnt matter whose chair you sit on. They are all very skilled.

Her attention to detail, customer service, and friendliness are unparalleled. I highly recommend getting here EARLY as waits can be very long. When you find a good barber that you can trust with your hair, you stick with them as they are far and few in between. I’ve been going to Mike for 8 years now, each experience being refreshing due to both his quality of work and his personality. You always feel your best after a great haircut, and with Mike you can rest assured he’ll get you looking as sharp as a tack every time!

Whatever you do don’t get a haircut from the elderly gentleman closest to the window. Twice I have got my haircut from here and both times it’s been really bad. First time I asked for half length of the top and ended up getting a full buzz cut. Second time I say round on the back and it’s square and again I get a bad buzz cut when I don’t ask anything close to that. Sucks cause the rest of the barbers are great. Especially the blonde woman

I like the work they do. Its a very chill, relaxed spot. Theyre definitely going for the old school barber shop feel. They dont take appointments, which can be good and bad. Its good for the flexibility of being able to stop in whenever, bad for having to wait. But so far it hasnt been a bad wait for me. Grab a magazine and hangout. You can also put your name on the chalkboard and come back later. This is like any other barber shop in that you need to clearly communicate what you want out of the haircut in order to get the best. I always bring in a picture. They offer straight razor shaves--both for your face and for shaping the back of your neck. They have a few different dressers, so you might develop a preference for one.

Excellent haircut. No appointments - when you enter, write your name on the chalkboard to the left and theyll call your name when youre up. You can even leave if theres a long line and come back without loosing your place in line.

Seems like the old school barber shop modal has changed in Chicago land over the past couple decades. When my regular guy retired I had a number of experiments with other shops that tried to present and old school feel and service, and so the search continued.Fortunately I found Gabbys which offered great cuts, old school and new, at a great price, with great service.

The only thing worth the extremely long wait here is the price. The haircuts are average at best and in most cases below par. The stylists here assure you that they understand how you want your hair cut, but time after time they have failed to do so. This place seems dirty and the shears are in dire need of sharpening. I would recommend to most people to try this place out and see if it’s for them. However, it just hasn’t done it for me

I have been a loyal customer for the last year, a very good Barbershop, the Barbers are very nice and professional BUT the wait is usually over an hour (!!) And today was the highlight. on Google it says that the opening time is 7 so I arrived at 6:30 to be among the first in line and when I arrived I was surprised to find that they were already open and there are 7 more people ahead. I waited until 7:30 and saw that I had another 20 minutes of waiting so I just left. I think the owners need to update the operating hours.unfortunately I will not return there anymore.

Most of the barbers here are great. Don’t go to the bald guy on the end. He will ANNIHILATE your hair because he doesn’t listen, he just starts mowing your head.

I thought my hair cut was average the 2 times went here... Honestly it did not wow me for getting a simple fade...The wait in this place can be so long for just an average haircut. It felt like all out of towner transplants that were the customers coming here.. Definitely never going back with the wait times and average haircuts!

Gabbys Barber Shop is hands-down the best barber shop on the North Side. The ambiance is very old school and so cool. The barbers love bantering with each other and the overall experience is very fun. There are no reservations; just put your name down on the chalk board and wait your turn. Some days are pretty busy, but I was in the chair within 20 minutes during my last visit.Aside from the actual shop itself, my haircuts are always perfect. The barbers are very skilled and Ive witnessed quite a wide range of requests, but Ive noticed that every person leaving that shop looks on-point.

You get what you ask for in a very comfortable environment, super fast but only because she knows what shes doing! I cant imagine going anywhere else for a haircut!

Hands down the worst haircut I have ever gotten. The good reviews baffle me. I can only assume their from people who don’t care about their hair and just want a cheap cut in a nice place. The barber completely ignored everything I said.

They are the best barbers in town. The only thing I don’t enjoy too much is the fact that you need to be there 15 min before they open the shop otherwise you will wait for an hour in line because the place is super busy all the time.

I usually wait to get a haircut when I plan on visiting family in the northern burbs, but when thats not possible, Im thrilled to come here.Its my second time getting a haircut here; the first time I had to wait about 15 minutes (not bad at all) and the second time, I didnt have to wait at all!Very friendly barbers who do a fantastic job. I always have to tip very well because they certainly deserve it.Also, dont forget to sign your name in on the chalkboard to your left right when you walk in.

Had the best haircut of my life here. I sat on the chair and told my barber what I wanted and he not only saw my vision, but he even went above and beyond in trying to understand what I wanted. He used cultural references to explain the hairstyle and look I wanted and thats when I knew they were legit. Highly recommended and for the price of 16 bucks for a downtown barber shop compared to some of the ones in the same area, you cant beat it.

Gabbys is a laid back atmosphere with a vintage feel to it, you come in sign your name on a chalk board and wait to be called. They have an extensive selection of magazines to keep you company Esquire, Rolling Stone, etc. They wait is not too bad about 30-45mins. The barbers there each have their own unique style and are good at what they do.10/10 recommend .

Great cuts, very professional, and reasonably priced for Lincoln Park/Lakeview. Men’s haircut and neck shave is $18. They take everyone on a first come-first served basis, so that can be a big plus or minus depending on if you’d prefer to schedule an appointment or not.

If youre okay with waiting, you will receive an excellent haircut here and maybe make some friends. Old school authentic feel. Quick and skilled barbers that do very clean work, but theres always a line.

Ive been coming here for over 10 years. Great hair cut and great price ($16, cash only). There are five barbers, they work on first-come first serve basis and as long as you put your name one the chalkboard before the doors close, they will cut your hair that day.During peak hours on the weekends, Gabbys gets really busy, and many customers will put their names down, and then come back in an hour.

Takes a few tries to find the right stylist for your needs. All of them are very friendly and professional, providing excellent service at reasonable rates. Suggest dropping in around 3-4pm for shorter wait time.
