I initially was in a bind to find a place quickly and Cathy Betz and team were very accommodating. Promptly accepting my application, security deposit and first months rent. Great experience for the year up until it came time to send the security deposit back (within the 45 day window per the State of Virginia). I asked several times for an answer as to what happened with the deposit and each time I was told that the owner was out of the country. They had already failed to send the deposit back with the 45 days, they also failed to notify me of any potential deductions within 30 days. I asked whether or not business stops when an owner isnt there and was told that the discourse was unacceptable. Cool. After being thoroughly unsatisfied with the answer, I sent a demand letter (as anyone else in this situation should do immediately after not receiving their deposit after 45 days). Magically, I got answers but still dragging feet. To date, I shouldve had my deposit back on March 12, 2019. It is April 3, I have not received anything back and when attempting to make it extremely easy to remedy the situation, Ive been met with gross incompetence. As a result, Ive been forced to pursue a small claim that I will certainly win. If you deal with this company, Im sorry. Be sure to have signed walk in/walk out documentation, a copy of your lease, and all correspondence when you make your case. If you do not deal with the company, I implore you to reconsider and find somewhere else to rent.
