I like the Brandywine location but my post will be regarding the Bear location bc they seem to never reply back to reviews. The facility was clean and has a lot to offer but when you sign up please get thorough explanation or else they do everything in there power not to refund a penny back.Received a e-mail referring to my payment not going through, but NEVER on the e-mail mentioned a follow up attempt later in the month and because of that I stopped going to the YMCA in the month of September and still got charged 105.I highly RECOMMEND the YMCA to add that extra sentence including the words with their own paraphrase “follow up attempt later in the month”.We are human and sometimes we forgot to refer back to the original sign up form, and simple things like I mentioned before can have a HUGE benefit for us average people.I couldn’t get my refund back and thats okay, but I don’t want anyone else to fall in this position and I hope the YMCA considers my recommendation.
My daughter just loved camp Koda! She had a great time right from the start, and felt very comfortable. I didn’t interact with the staff a lot due to just drop off and pickup but each person seemed very nice and my daughter was happy being with them. My only complaint is that I wish i signed her up sooner to get in a few more weeks this summer!
My son is so over-the-moon happy with Brandywine Ys Camp Quoowant this year. Last year he went to a different camp and he always said how bored he was and he was never tired when he came home. That to me was a sign that he really wasnt that active at camp. This year, however, hes always talking about what a great day he had at camp and the things he did during the day and hes exhausted and filthy when he comes home. That is a sign that hes romping in the woods, playing hard, and doing all the things I remember doing at camp when I was young. And, hes excited to go back every morning! Thats a huge win for this mama! We will definitely continue with Camp Quoowant next summer!
My grandson loves his counselors! The camp is a great place for the kids to have fun and make new friends. Frequent, consise communication from the staff is fabulous 👌! Highly recommend.
My children have been going to the YMCA Quoowant Summer Camp for years. They love it, and wouldn’t want go anywhere else!
Friendly staff and great news equipment!
We love the Brandywine YMCA and their summer Hanby Outdoor camp! The facility is clean, has modern equipment, 2 great swimming pools and an array of fitness classes. We have been particularly impressed with them during the pandemic with their communication. Our kids, 13 and 9, loved camp this summer! In a crazy summer, this was one of their weekly highlighting playing outside with other kids in a safe environment. Great job, Brandywine Y!
The Brandywine YMCA is an awesome facility. They are super clean and safe in these uncertain times. Also all staff are very helpful. They have great equipment and machines and keep them super clean.
Brandywine Y has the best people working there. Helpful and smart and quick to resolve issues. Their small group classes are a great addition to the other classes and equipment they offer for a healthy lifestyle. But I didnt realize just how great the employees were until the Bear Y messed up a credit on my account and then basically told me sorry we cant help you with it. I was able to call the Brandywine Y and they resolved my issues and were very pleasant to deal with. So glad I am close to Brandywine Y!!
The Brandywine Y is doing a great job of handling the coronavirus problem. Staff members continually wipe down equipment, and soap dispensers and cleaning tissues are located throughout the facility, and equipment is socially distanced. The staff is also friendly and very helpful. Masks are required of everyone, of course.
Typically hit the Central or Western Y due to their proximity to my work & home, but every so often I attend Brandywine & I’m always impressed with the facility!
Gary and team out at Camp Quowaant are doing a great job keeping the kids saf—and keeping them having fun
For ten years this branch has been a wonderful community focused wellness center for me and my son. It’s diversity and evolution are it’s greatest strengths. Whether it was providing us awesome child care, classes, sports instruction, summer camp or it’s A class fitness center access, it’s always been part of what I consider home. Welcoming to all...even those who need monetary help. I love this place. 😊
My son has been having a blast at Y camp this summer and they have done a great job with COVID safety protocols. We will be returning in years to come!
I love this place! The instructors are awesome and the Kids Zone staff are amazing! It’s fun to take the classes offered. And I know that there’s more I can do because they offer so much for full membership. My goal is to stay fit for me and my girls and the Y allows me all opportunities to just that!
Great place for families of all kinds to enjoy fellowship, athletics, positive communication, and build strong relationships. The YMCA has so much to offer the whole family, from helping develop my youngsters in child care, to teaching my son how to swim, to giving me the opportunity to coach and bond with young athletes- which may be the greatest gift of all,
Wonderful atmosphere and something for everyone. 2 classes are available all different times and all different kinds of classes. Its clean its safe and I wouldnt want to be anywhere else in Brandywine YMCA
I love the variety of classes at the Y and how the program adapts to the new trends while still keeping the oldie but goodies alive like step. The attitude of the staff across the board is friendly, accommodating, and inclusive. Its a very positive place doing good things for the community.
The YMCA staff is always so kind and encouraging. The activities are awesome, and my son loves the field trips. This was our 3rd summer at this camp, and he will be attending again next summer. I highly recommend the YMCA camp!
My child has Autism. Found out through the Aquatics Assistant Director, that they have an Aquatics class that is partnered with Autism Delaware. What a blessing this has been. Plus, the basics class was already maxed, but she insisted that we get him started anyway. So, she had us register for the strokes class.... And his one-on-one instructor would teach him the basics. My husband and I couldnt be happier and more grateful. We also joined the Y as a family so my son would continue swimming. Plus, since joining, were looking into some classes. The Y has so much to offer. My husband is into cycling and Ive always wanted to try Zumba. And theres a drop off area for my son to go play in while we do a class or work out. We couldnt be happier.
The Brandywine Y’s awesomeness is due (& also reflected) in it’s diversity. I’m talking about the diversity in it’s programming & also amongst the staff. The Y is a fantastic place to be.When you combine the esthetically- & functionally-pleasing, newly renovated building with the variety & the magnitude of programming, it results in the Brandywine YMCA being an unmatched fitness facility in the tri-state area. Come take a tour & judge for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
The gym updates look amazing compared to what it was when I was a member a few years ago. The employees and personal trainers are very friendly and are eager to help on the floor. I do not struggle waiting to use equipment because of how big this gym is. The door greaters are always so friendly as well.
Poor mask compliance with very little staff oversight. Mostly upstairs and during evening hours.
Ample clean, working fitness center equipment, very little waiting. Friendly, available staff for any questions/concerns. Always a great experience.
My kids loved the summer camp program ! Plenty of pool time and many other activities. Great staff. They cant wait for next summer already!
Great institution and great people. The Brandywine YMCA provides exquisite and much needed support to the community and its members of all ages. Kudos to the new management thats taking the branch to new heights.
Summer camp, specifically Explorer Boys, is amazing!!! So grateful to send my son to this camp for most of the summer. Ivy and her team really run a great camp. The staff are very supportive and encourage my son to try new things.
Friendly staff and patrons! This place has just above everything fitness related. The have plenty of weights and machines. They have two great pools (cool pool and warm pool) and I hear they have fitness classes.
This place just keeps getting better! Its a top-notch facility with new, well-maintained equipment and fantastic classes, and even more importantly, the Brandywine YMCA offers a warm and welcoming environment! Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who work to continuously improve this wonderful place.
This place really adds to my quality of life. Very up-to-date, comfortable facility with lots of good machines and high quality exercise classes with excellent instructors.
Wonderful place to work out. And everyone is so friendly and helpful.
This location has staff that are sarcastic and rude. Me and a friend went to use the dance room and were watched like children for an hour just for the staff to tell us it couldn’t be used. They spoke amongst themselves rudely “I don’t know how they even snuck in there” and gave us rude stares on the way out! It was so annoying. Then when they said you had to be supervised to be in the room we had NO issue with that, but all of a sudden nobody was available to do so. We were scowled the whole time we were there. I would never recommend this place to anyone because they don’t know professionalism and communication. They watched us go in the dance room and didn’t say a word, then scowled is the whole time. That’s childish and immature . Our time was wasted
To be honest, overall, the place is nice and is family friendly. It is a bit crowded and from time to time you bump into an unprofessional and undertrained front desk. But I would still give four stars for the place. The reason for the three-start review is mainly caused by the unpleasant experience while I was trying to get private swim lessons for my daughter. I paid for my daughters swim lessons on 8/6 and was told there will be a two-week waiting list. Now it is almost two months and I was just told they could not find a spot for my daughter. Besides the long waiting, the communication with the person in charge was very inefficient. Be prepared to wait for weeks or even months before you receive a response. Im requesting a refund now and just dont want to keep wasting my time here.
My son is a camper at the Hanby Outdoor Center and he loves it! They keep the kids busy with fun activities all day long. The camp staff is awesome and super friendly!
Place is decent unfortunately most ppl dont follow rules of the gym or the pools. Lifeguards are properly trained but pool rules depend on which lifeguard is on duty. If there are any excess amount of children in the pool during open swim, some adult will come into the pool expecting a specific lane (safe space, lol) for their specific swim, children are quartered to areas of the pool, which is, of course wrong during an open swim. Lap swimmers will swim directly into children knowing they are there. The communist (some) lifeguards arent even in their 20s and avoid these issues due to confronting adults, but will blame and pick on children for swimming and... Just being children.
The Y offers so many classes now that they have expanded. The fitness center is amazing, and spinning is a hit! Staff are motivating and push you to your limit so that you get the best workout.
The atmosphere is always cheerful, the staff is most helpful in all areas of the Y. I find that everyone can find something that suits them in the form of exercise, from land classes, to machines as well as aquatic classes, swim lessons and lap swim. I especially like the Aquatic classes, that seems be for all ages.
Good swim pool. Nice people.
Great place with wonderful people. Only problem is hating to exercise. But the people make it easier!
Update: May 7 : still crowded ; unless youre excited about working in or people tapping their foot at you; arrange your gym schedule around crowded hours ; crowded ; even after the recent improvements of late 2018. in order to work out Ive had to re-arrange my workout schedule
Very big facility has a open gym space and two pools. Also different cardio classes, i enjoy bringing my friends.
The Y is a good place with nice facilities but they will close for the whole day, following a 30 minute power outage in the morning. Not helpful for those of us that like to work out on a schedule. Like other businesses, they need to re-open after power outages - at least for things like the gym.
Great Program, patent instructor, family oriented, friendly atmosphere. My child enjoyed learning with other children his age group.ThanksAudwin & Kim
Smiling faces as you enter the facility, updated well maintained equipment and a positive atmosphere!
The Y has become part of my morning, every day. Post full time career, the Y gave me a new set of water cooler friends. Not the same as working, but Ive lost of bit of weight.
Id like to give this Y a better review because they do have a wide variety of workout classes and plenty of workout equipment. Staff is always friendly and willing to help and its pretty clean as far as equipment goes. But I have to give it three stars because of both the indoor and outdoor pool. The indoor pool hours for family swim are completely inconvenient and most certainly, not family friendly at all. Its to the point where we are never able to go and the pool as a family. We prefer to run and bike outside during the spring, summer and fall, utilizing the gym during only the hottest days of summer and during the winter. Because of this, the pool was the biggest reason we joined, and not being able to access it has been very frustrating. Ive even traveled to other Ys that are much further away in order to get my kids in the pool. So, during the week family swim is from 1-3:15, when my children take their naps ( and, you know, when most children, universally take their naps). On the weekend the hours are from 4-7pm... smack in the middle of dinner and bedtime. These hours are not family friendly in the slightest since most people who have a family are pretty much on the same schedule. The outdoor pool is a complete joke and my husband wont even go to it during the summer months. They dont open till after noon and its chock full of unsupervised camp kids Monday-Friday. I once counted 30 camp kids in just the small section meant for non swimmers(the red band section) The camp councilors are NEVER around the pool and are as far back in the picnic area as they can get. The section of the pool that is meant to be for children who cant swim, is over run by children horsing around and creating havoc, leaving it impossible for any parent to spend time at the pool trying to teach their child to swim. I couldnt take my children this summer because of having an infant and more than once, over zealous (unsupervised) camp kids splashed him in his face repeatedly, even after i addressed them and explained that I had a baby in my arms and they should jump in the pool further away from me, instead of right next to me. Of course they didnt listen and I didnt go again after three incidents like this. I know Im not the only parent who feels the same way, because each time I talked to a parent at the pool, they have have the same complaints as me. Ive talked to a few staff members over the past few years hoping that something might change but they all just shrug their shoulders and nod in understanding, but cant offer any sort of suggestions for change. I hope to see improvement in family swim hours after the renovation is complete, but Im doubtful since they have been in place since long before I joined two years ago. So if you have a family, and would like to go to family swim, be prepared to sacrifice nap time and push back dinner time, neither which is worth it when you have small children.
An amazing facility, tons of programs and friendly, helpful staff
Great new exercise facility and many staff members who really care about the area and keep it in top notch condition
Love this place. Has everything I need to work out and I miss the sauna when I’m away. People are friendly. Great place overall
Programs and activities are great at all of the DE YMCA’s but Brandywine is exceptional with its service and welcoming attitude plus I think its the most cleanest of the facilities and not because it just got updated but its been always in tip top condition.
I love This facility.. very clean and family friendly..diverse crowd as well..
The Brandywine YMCA has a horrible system of informing its members of hours of operation, including closures due to maintenance and holiday schedules. This information should at least be communicated on the website, and be unambiguous. When I called the number 478-9622 you only get a recording. The websites states there was no Labor Day closure, however it also says check for possible change of hours. Very misleading and general.
Brandywine YMCA is the best🥰 We love it there😍
This is a fantastic facility. Lots of machines and weights. Cant go wrong with getting a membership here.
Love this Y. Besy Ive ever been to. Quality classes, new equipment, great special offerings, friendly staff.
There is excellent variety in Programs/Classes, and many wonderful instructors.
I love this Y. They offer an array of activities for all ages. The facility is well maintained and the staff members are usually very pleasant and willing to assist.
Is this a joke? Does Wilmington have standards??? People of Wilmington you need to look at what other YMCAS are offering & STOP going to the Wilmington YMCA’s . They would have no choice but to close down and refurbish.Since photos speak louder than a rant, just look at what other YMCAS look like....don’t you feel ripped off now???**Based on Brandywine YMCA’s response, their needing further clarification (no surprise there, since they cannot recognize they need to shut down & refurbish) Please be advised that other YMCA’s do not change extra for having medical staff on site!
The most amazing camp ever!!!!
Great facility. Positive support staff and instructors.
The staff are warm and inviting. The facility is great with all the bells and whistles.
Great community of people who go there and work there. Instructors are the best!
Very good Gym, hopefully construction gets done soon!!
Great Location, parking is good, and the staff is friendly and the equipment is clean. Been here oven an year, and not complaints.
Great place for any kind of workout.
The upgrades make it like a place you want to come and exercise There are programs for persons with all activity levels
The people that work there are so nice and the Sauna is a nice size.
Summer hours do not make sense.
Good after school program
Great facility with great programs.
The staff is good, I like the gym and swimming pool.
A lot to offer. Though its pricey for the average family.
They send a man to clean the ladys shower/lock room between 10:00pm and 10:15pm, this man didnt even ask/alert ladys inside shower/lock room.
Gorgeous location and renovations!
This YMCA has great facilities, friendly staff, and rarely seems crowded.
Everything you could possibly want in a club and more.
Love the new build !!!! Lots of room
Kids all over the place in the workout area and the sauna is very smile compared to other ymcas, was not a fan of the layout
Nice facility and nice people
Closes at 6? On the only day people are off? Annoying
