Great gym, and even better people. From the owner, who is extremely humble about his impressive accomplishments, to the other trainers, its top-notch and you certainly get what you put in. The environment is super positive and motivating without being over the top. The equipment is some of the best Ive seen/used, and theres plenty of space. Totally recommend this place all day long and for all levels of health/fitness.
I called the number listed on the website, during the hours the website listed as open. Immediately I got a pre-recorded voice that said This person has a mailbox that is not set up.1. Successful adults who manage businesses answer their phones during open hours.....and if they cant? then:2. They SET UP THEIR VOICEMAIL so people can leave messages! It should go without saying that they return the calls they receive.Edit: Thank you for your reply. I am looking to BUY a rowing machine to use when I make time for it, not to take organized classes on others time schedules; you are too far from home. I just saw your store and had hoped.... But thank you for responding.
I had a great opportunity to train at this box while I was temporally working here at Washington State. I’ve been to multiple boxes during my work and travels, and so far this is one of the best. Armor Athletics excel at all aspects. The community is friendly and welcoming. Zach is the owner/coach, he is an expert and his programing is challenging but fun. The facility is spacious and functional. I am telling you, this place is amazing, and if I had to pick alternative box to call home, this would be it.
Hands down, best gym environment I’ve ever had.I’ve been coming to Armor (formerly Trident) now for about 3 years and work out 3-4 times a week. There is an amazing energy that hits you as soon as you open the door and walk in the building. It is awesome to be surrounded by people who are willing to push not only themselves, but each other to reach their maximum potential with every workout.I also can’t say enough about the coaches. Their attention to detail is second to none. Not only are they interested in seeing you get stronger and improve your physical fitness, but they genuinely care about your form, technique, and safety. If you are looking for a place where you will be pushed, encouraged, and cared for, then stop by at Armor. Talk to one of the coaches. Jump into a class. Come and push yourself outside of your comfort zone to grow physically and mentally.
Great coaching In a friendly no pressure Motivating atmosphere.. Great place to accomplish All your fitness goals! Recommend this to anybody looking to ditch the regular gym or Looking to get back on track with their fitness
I am so glad that I took the leap and gave Trident a try... it was probably the best decision that Ive ever made regarding health and fitness!!! I love that the workouts are always different every day, but that there has obviously been a lot of thought put into the programming, so its easy to track and see results (and as long as you show up and push yourself even a little, you will see results!!). At 30 yrs old, Im on track to be in the best shape of my life, and even after two kids, Im fitting into the size clothes that I wore in high school!! I chalk all of my success up to the awesome coaching staff and absolutely amazing, supportive community of Trident members. If you feel like you need a little momentum to reach your full potential, give Trident a try. You will be so thankful that you did!!!
I would recommend this gym to anyone of any athletic background! After tearing my ACL and having surgery in 2016 and being released to full activity in May 2017, I was looking for a new and more challenging workout. After a couple of months of considering CrossFit and feeling intimidated to try it, I landed at Armor in fall 2018. It was such a comfort to know that Zach the owner is a physical therapist. I could tell from the first intro session that he knew what he was talking about, understood movement, and was able to explain it to a newbie like myself. Whats more, every coach at the gym had the same level of understanding and great instruction. I felt right at home among more experienced CrossFitters and my fiance, who has been doing CrossFit for six years, loved the classes he attended with me at Armor. Whether you are experienced in CrossFit or have been considering trying it, I would definitely give Armor a try.
Trident is an stupendous gym! I came to Trident as a latch ditch effort to get into CrossFit after bad experiences at other Boxes in the Tacoma area. I am consistently impressed by the facility, the programing, and the professionalism of the coaches. All of these factors make for a great environment to do work in, and fosters a great sense of community, something I never thought Id feel in any sort of gym environment. I can not recommend it highly enough!
Armor Athletics holds everything you would want in an amazing gym, great equipment, space and, cleanliness. But most importantly to me, an amazing community filled with excellent coaches, staff and friends that you can have for a lifetime. Everyone, no matter day one or day 300 is encouraged and welcomed by every member and coach. If your looking to take a step to better your health, to enter the world of crossfit, and/or better your technique and skill in Olympic weightlifting then stop by and check out Armor Athletics!!
I first heard about crossfit after a few friends started at Trident now Armor. A short time after, I was invited to try it out and thought, what was that?! Ive never felt so drained after a 15 min workout before. From there, I wanted more and the rest is history. Its been a year now and I am still hooked and enjoying each class. The coaches are great. They take the time to break down each workout with clear instructions and movement. During a challenging workout they offer motivation to get you through. I especially like the feedback and correction they suggest for improvement. There is also a good sense of community and always a positive vibe. No BIG egos just individuals wanting to better themselves. The different hours at Armor is a plus, as it works with my busy schedule. Also clean facilities to change and shower if needed. The equipment is well maintained and safe to use.I highly recommend Armor if you are looking for a place to workout, ask for Zach.
Ive been working out at Armor (formerly Trident) for almost 10 months now (2 years, after edit). Prior to joining, I hadnt really done much in the way of fitness/weight lifting for 8 or 9 years. I did a lot of homework prior to trying Crossfit, and Armor (Trident) had a great reputation. The selling point for me was the Director of Training. His Doctorate in Physical Therapy made me far more comfortable trying complex movements having been away for awhile. My big fear was injury, and I have waited this long to write a review in order to get a real feel for the gym, culture, coaching, training, etc (as well as some tenure being injury free). The coaches know their stuff. The owner/director has done his homework (literally and figuratively) to build programming that is helpful without bordering harmful, and seems to genuinely enjoy seeing members get healthier. The people who work out there are friendly, it lacks all the classic gym drama, and the facility itself is great. Couldnt ask for more. Thanks, guys...
I was visiting family and needed a place to work out for the week. This box was close to where I was staying and convenient. Dave and the gym family welcomed me with open arms. Drop in price was great. I will visit Trident again if I am ever Im Washington.
Great gym, knowledgeable coaches, and awesome community. Ive been coming to Trident for over a year now and going there is one of the favorite parts of my day. I love getting stronger and seeing the results!
Absolutely love this place! The coaching staff is knowledgeable and does an amazing job of motivating to push limits. The members and the energy to push each other to succeed are unbelievable. If you want a great place to get in the best shape of your life, check this place out!
Ive been going for about a year and I feel great. Jeff, Amanda, Paul, Dana, and all the other coaches are great and dedicated to see your results. I find that I push myself more in their classes then I ever had before from any other type of gym or fitness class. I look forward to another year and seeing how far I can push myself!!!!
Great coaches with strong knowledge of fitness and training. Good facility and equipment for all-level trainees. Poor warmth and interpersonal relationship with clients. Ive finished my introductory lesson with them, and I didnt received any praises, complement, or simply a high-five.What I like:The coaches are very meticulous and patient in teaching me how to do the proper form. Ive gained a lot of good knowledge regarding to the science of mobility, balance, strength, and flexibility. Learning the complexity of doing the squat, deadlift, pull-up, cleans, and other calisthenic workouts have awakened new thoughts about my fitness level. Ive been an enthusiastic fitness lover for over ten years, and I didnt know I was doing it wrong from the beginning. Heck, Im serious athlete who is striving to be greater someday. I wish I can continue to learn more about their wisdom and knowledge, but...What I didnt like:Despite of their respected knowledge and experience, there is lack of enthusiasm and energy into the subject. Ive expected a lot of passion of these staff members since it is part of their career. As Ive mentioned earlier during my introductory lesson, there are lack of praises. The coach only gave me critique and criticism. And, thats it. Like a Microsoft Word who only just correct spelling and grammar. My last private lesson was ended shortly to be 50 minutes long instead of an hour long (Ive invested the private lesson to be 60 minutes long), and the coach should at least uses the last 10 minutes to have an open conversation or continue to work with me until my appointment is over. Instead, the coach ended quickly and trying to sell me other services that are available to me. Nevertheless, in my second appointment, my coach was 5 minutes late. Punctuality is also a problem.ConclusionI really encourage the club to take their clients expectations very seriously. Im not just only investing for great results and amazing athletic performances. I want to invest something that can give me that journey and sadly, I dont see a lot of future with them based on my first impression. Good thing I try it out first, before signing any contract.Pros:-Knowledgeable and experienced coaches-Great equipment-Various type of services to benefit the clients needs in term of fitness levelCons:-Punctuality-Lack of open discussion-No warmth or welcoming atmosphereI really hope they are reading this feedback. I was feeling hesitant to make this review public. However, not all fitness club is perfect and I hope this feedback can make a huge difference that would benefit their small business in a long run. This is simply not a rug you should keep sweeping underneath. This is something for the club to overcome their problem to better their clients expectation and impression.
I love the friendly and supportive environment at Trident. All of the coaches are skilled and knowledgeable, and bring something unique to each workout. I have gotten stronger than I ever thought possible in just a few months here, and I look forward to coming in every day!
I absolutely love this gym! The coaches are fantastic and the athletes are the nicest! Everyone is always so helpful and encouraging...even when they can barely breathe :)
Ill never be able to go back to a big box gym again. Great coaches, great facility, great members. What more could you want?
This June it will be two years doing Cross-Fit. I was very impressed with the staff and their ability to make you feel comfortable with the movements. As I started having to travel for my job I dropped into other boxes. This experience gave me a new appreciation of Trident. This box is not about comparing who has the best body or who is the strongest or fastest. This box is about challenging yourself, which in my opinion is your biggest competitor. The coaches will talk about the workout and then challenge you to set a personal goal while youre doing the workout. It might be adding weight, working on form or adding a few more sets when your body is screaming to stop. This is why I love this place and will always call it home.
I love Trident. Jeff and Amanda are amazingly awesome trainers, with tons of knowledge and experience AND they are down-to-earth extremely nice and normal people. Trident feels like home away from home, and every time I walk in I can take a deep breath, be scared when I look at the whiteboard for the WOD since I never know what it will be until I get there, but somehow get through every workout and leave feeling better than ever and so happy that I got myself there. Its so much fun I wish I could go every day so I dont miss out on what might be my favorite exercises. I love the community feel, where no matter what level youre at everyone waits and cheers each other on until everyone is done. I also love that its like personal training, but with a more fun and motivating group setting.I wish all of my friends and family could join and share the same love I feel for my gym! I love that I can do things like stand on my hands again, because Ive regained so much of my flexibility lost over the years - I can now climb a rope and lift all kinds of weight, which has made me feel stronger for doing things outside the gym. Love, love, love my gym and the Servens! :)
Trident Athletics is awesome. I recommend this Crossfit gym over any other in Tacoma. Trident has a lot to offer that other gyms dont, like programming for both Crossfit and Olympic lifting. The coaches are great, as well as the in house nutrition. Trident is the best box in Tacoma.. Hands down!
Trident is a wonderful CrossFit/Oly Lifting box - The coaches are very well trained and supportive no matter your fitness level. They start off every class coaching the movements and making sure form is on point. The gym itself and equipment are excellent. Other members are just as motiving and enthusiastic, rounding it out as a great place to workout.
I came to Tacoma for two weeks visiting the PNW and hanging with my girlfriends family. Knowing that I needed to work out with the copious amounts of food they would feed me I looked for a Box with drop-in pricing. To the point, look no further than Trident Athletics. Friendly service, awesome prices ($15 drop in pricing!), a strong community feel and quality programing are what will greet you at Trident! Being in the reserves it was nice to have a large number of military personnel without the pretense of being exclusively military clientele.Having done Crossfit in various incarnations around the world for years I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to coming back during the holiday season!
Having been a member for 5 months now, my experiences have been nothing but positive. Recently turning 45 and finding myself missing weeks that turn into months at the traditional gym made me take a chance on Crossfit. The staff at Trident, having various different backgrounds, gives you the absolute most positive feeling of a personal training session every time you attend. I been able to loose significant body fat while increasing strength in a relatively short period of time. Not knowing what your work will be each day is a relief yet they will kick your butt every day because there are no off day like a the tradition gym where you control what goes on. I could never see myself going back to the nation chain gyms simply because the support and motivation I get from the others during workout doesnt exist there. Its nearly impossible to not succeed in Tridents environment. With a sincere amount effort on your part, they come with the experience, facility, motivation, tools and knowledge that will all but guarantee your success! If you on the fence, come on in and well get you over!
Zack is not only an expert in health & nutrition, being a PhD in Physical Therapy puts him above and beyond any trainer Ive ever worked with! Thank you for brining your professionalism and wealth of knowledge to our group!
The decision to train at Armor athletics could not be described any other way than life changing. Earlier this year I suffered from a low back disc herniation. It was incredibly debilitating to my everyday way of living. I had tried going to specialists, chiropractics, and some physical therapy and had made little to no progress in rectifying my pain and daily limitation. One of my best friends had been going to Armor for a couple of years for crossfit and had recommended that I just come in and chat with Zach to see if he felt he could help. He took a deep dive into my current state, looked over my MRI and observed my movement and immediately had recommendations and actionable next steps. In my first physical therapy/training session with Zach, he took the time to explain the medical philosophy to his prescribed training regiment, which I really appreciated. That day I came into Armor to speak with Zach I was unable to sit down as my back pain was so severe. No exaggeration, one month later I was able to participate in my very first crossfit class with some limitation. Two months later I became a full participant in crossfit. I am now able to do movements and activities such as running that I was unable to do prior to making the decision to walk in the door on August 1st.I am now on the journey to a healthier lifestyle. I love coming to the gym and it is often one of the best parts of my day. The coaching, encouragement, and community is second to none. I am incredibly thankful for Zach Rynders and his team at Armor Athletics.
Ive know Zach at CrossFit Trident for over a year and am very impressed with the way he helps people learn how to move and how to perform various exercises before they start actually working out.
Fun self paced fitness classes . Pushing Big tires around really was a super cardio workout.
Trident has been one of the best fitness decisions of my life. The experience is an addiction thats actually empowering.
I started working out at Trident Athletics on 1/1/15. This is the 3rd CF gym Ive tired out and is most certainly the best. The coaching is top notch. Coach Zach (lead coach/director) is a physical therapist so he is keen on making sure that the movement is solid before he encourages you to add weight. At the same time, for relatively inexperienced people like myself, Zach pushes me when needed and through his guidance I have gained confidence and strength. The facility itself is clean and well organized. There is always enough equipment and space (youre never worried about getting a barbell dropped on your head). The facility also has a clean bathroom and a shower. Plenty if free parking too.Trident has an excellent mix of people who workout there. Theres a blend of all abilities and personalities (from grandmothers, soccer moms, 20-somethings, and active duty members). Everyone has been friendly and encouraging...making me excited to return. If youre curious about crossfit I highly encourage you to give trident a try. The workouts are hard however they can be changed for all fitness levels (the coaches will help you with that!) Absolutely everyone can crossfit.Im so happy and thankful that I found Trident!
Although i like this box, it didnt really Embody Crossfit Culture. Was in Tacoma visiting family, found this was close to hotel. Staff was so-so. One member introduced herself to me and my wife. Observed 5 pm class, crossfitters didnt motivate each other, gym emptied immediately after WOD. While the gym was spacious half was dedicated to Olympic lifting, with a lounge area separating gym. Drop in rate was reasonable $15. Gym was clean and very organized.
Excellent programming, friendly members and knowledgeable staff make Trident a great place to work out. Plenty of classes each day to fit my erratic schedule.
I dont typically write this stuff - but Ive had such a positive experience here that it would be a mistake not to say something about it. Ive had some health stuff, and some bad diet stuff, and Im out of shape. Like, doing-scaled-down-versions-of-most-exercises out of shape. I was really self-conscious when I went to the gym for on-ramp, but the trainer (Zach is the man) was fantastic.Id like to be clear about something - when I review this gym Im not reviewing Crossfit. I dont really care what people think about Crossfit, and it doesnt much matter what you think about Crossfit - what makes a gym work is the people, the atmosphere, and the camaraderie.Make no mistake, this is a friendly place, no judgement or stress. Theyre committed, kind, and there for you.I dont know what else to say really. Come down, sit in, check it out. Its a special place.
This gym rocks great people and great coaches that actually pay attention
I have been training at Trident for almost 4 months and I cant tell you enough how much I love it. I have been part of great gyms in Charlotte, Fayetteville, and Clarksville so when I moved to Tacoma I feared that I wouldnt be able to find a gym I really enjoyed. Needless to say, I was wrong. The trainers at Tridend are extremely knowledgeable and attentive, the facility is spacious and clean, the equiment is well-maintained, and the members are friendly and welcoming. The workouts are challenging (as they should be), but I always know I can tackle them, thanks to the great coaching of the trainers.
Greatest gym in all the lands! I have no idea what that Perkins guy was talking about in a previous review and he just dropped in once so he couldnt really speak intelligently about the culture. However, after moving to the area about 8 months ago, I checked out a few local gyms and this one hands down was the best. The memebrs are awesome and the coaches are not only knowledgable but they can also communicate to memebrs in a way that brings out the best in the athletes. Not only do they program the standard crossfit strength and metcon workouts but they also have one of the best Olympic lifting set ups west of the Mississippi. If youre on the fence about coming to this gym, Ill leave you with a quote from the great poet Shia Lebouf....JUST DO IT!!!
My wife and I did a free class at the end of September and then the On-Ramp for the first week of October and were immediately hooked! Amanda, Jeff, Zach, Paul, and Everett (who ran the on-ramp) have all been very supporting and eager to help a couple of newbies navigate the perceivably intimidating world of CrossFit.They designed the On-Ramp to give you a foundation from which to build upon when you roll into the full classes, and continue to provide expert coaching along your journey. Each WOD comes with a comprehensive warm-up, demonstration of technique, and a certified coach monitoring each CrossFitter to ensure that good form is not sacrificed.I highly recommend anyone on the fence about joining a CrossFit gym to come in and check out a class, talk to the members, and see what it is all about. From high school students to retirees, you are bound to run into someone of your background and fitness level that will gush about the transformation and positive results they are seeing in their lives. My wife and I are excited to keep drinking the Kool Aid and see what we can achieve through CrossFit with Trident Athletics!
Ive know Zach for over a year and am very impressed with his knowledge of the human body and how to train for events as well as recover from injuries.
