I was surprised to see that my car needed a smog certificate before I could renew my registration. There weren’t many days to get it done in time for the deadline. After searching online for a place near me, I called one and the fellow there said they didn’t provide that service, and recommended the Smog shop at Santa Monica Motors. It was late afternoon when I left for there, concerned I’d run into a big line of folks after school let out, etc. When I arrived, I saw there were two bays doing smog tests and one was open. In went my car, while one very nice person handles the paperwork and another went right to work on my car. I was directed to a comfortable outdoor waiting area, and in no more than 10 minutes, my car was done, thankfully had passes and I went inside to the friendly cashier. I had downloaded a $10 off coupon, and my cost was $68. If I’d chosen to spend $39 more, she would have processed my registration renewal then and there. I’ve rarely been pleasantly surprised by an automotive business, but the Smog Shop at Santa Monica Motors did just that. Highly recommend this quick, professional and pleasant business!!!!

Have used Santa Monica motors for many years for service on my Audi. Over the years I’ve gotten everything from scheduled service to brakes to major repairs done there. I’ve compared prices to the Audi dealership and they are consistently light years cheaper even when using the same parts the dealer uses. I usually work with Ray as my service advisor. He has always been honest and straightforward with me about options and calling out things that weren’t worth fixing when I planned to sell my car. I highly recommend this place for excellent and timely service

Bob assisted me and was very professional and personable. He had me in and out in about 20 minutes. The wait area was clean and shaded and everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. These lovely folks helped me transfer my registration to CA (along with a Smog cert) and it was super easy!! So much better than going and waiting at the DMV-- they took care of everything on the spot and handed me my new plates. And when one of the screw brackets was giving me an issue, they were happy to help out and fix it free of charge when I came back the next day for help.Great experience all around! Highly recommend

So super on the ball and organized! First I was sent an email reminding me that I needed a smog test and that I can make an appointment online. It was so easy! I showed up a couple of minutes early and of course they were able to take me right away and they were done in a matter of minutes! I brought my dog Albee who enjoyed meeting the staff and customers as we were waiting in the lovely outdoor patio area.

I have always had excellent service here whether for maintenance or smog check. Ray, the general manager, is very pleasant and helpful. They are very honest, sometimes charging less than the estimated cost. Everyone is personable. I recommend this business.

Santa Monica Motors made my mandatory smog check easy breezy! I set an appointment in May and the second I got there, a lovely gentleman came up to my car and immediately took my info. He was masked up which I greatly appreciated. He asked me to pull my car over to the garage and there were clean chairs outside for customers to wait. I was told the smog check would take about 30 minutes so I was prepared to wait. But only about 6 or 7 minutes went by before I was told the work was all done! Checkout was a breeze as well. Of course, they sent off the results straight to the DMV electronically, no fuss, no muss. The whole process was seamless and I thank everyone there for treating me like a valued customer. I’ll definitely be back! 👍🏽

I didn’t pass the smog test several times at another place. They kept telling me to drive. After driving hundreds of miles, it still didn’t pass. I took it to Santa Monica motors who gave me instructions on how to do a drive cycle and I drove at 50 mph for 60 miles then finally passed!!!

These folks are amazing! They do out of state California car registration and it took hardly any time at all, my situation was unusual, I was moving the following week, and my title is staying with the lienholder out of state. All I needed was my ID, current out of state registration and proof of insurance, and the vin verification (theyre just waiting on getting approval mailed back on this - they should be able to take care of this soon!)They took care of everything.Go give them your business and save yourself 7 hours at the DMV. The processing fee is worth it.

I drive an hour to use SM Motors. Yes, their mechanics are good and consistent. What separates them from other places is their customer service. Ray, is very good about picking up the phone and keeping you posted. I appreciate that more than anything else. This is why I drive an hour past other shops who do similar work. Did a smog quickly and with very friendly service. Took vehicle to DMV for a Vin verification and when I popped the hood I noticed a battery cap was missing. I drove back to the smog shop thinking it might have fallen off there. They spent a good 10 minutes helping me look all over for it. Finally one of the mechanics grabbed a flashlight and found it way at the bottom of the engine compartment! To top it off they found another special screw that was missing and got a special tool to replace it! Fantastic customer service and I would recommend them to anybody.
