Dropped into this gym for a 3 hour session while in San Fransisco for the next several weeks and this was my first impression:First class bouldering gym with endless boulder problems including top out walls, a nice training area (hang board, free weights, pull up bars, cardio machines, Kilter board, spray wall), large/clean locker rooms+bathrooms+showers, a decent selection of apparel and climbing gear, and most importantly super friendly employees who greet you with a smile when you walk through the doors. Cleanliness was also on point and they had a readily available hand washing station without needing to go to the restrooms. They made great use of their space and really jam packed a ton of fun boulder problems throughout the gym.. 300+ to be more specific! Cant wait to come back one day!
Just moved here - avidly train for bouldering - 6-7 years climbing. This gym doesnt have half of the things you might want to train for bouldering yet its regarded as one of the best gyms in the bay area? I just feel like its so far detached from the positive rumors that I was disappointed on my first visit. No hangboard? That said, if youre a new climber who just wants to meet new friends, feel comfortable, do some parkour-like climbs, lift some weights and enjoy a club-like feel, this is a great place to start climbing. I remember falling in love with climbing in a similar environment so I cant jock it.
The routes are great the leveling is consistent for the most part. However, the staff leave a little to be desired. Before I became a member some of the staff were a little rude. They seem to dislike dealing with people who arnt membersnot detrimental just something to look out for
This is an amazing place to Boulder. It’s a large facility with a lot of different routes. The membership comes with access to a bunch of other gyms in the area as well, so it’s definitely worth the money.
Pretty great climbing gym, alls I gotta say is dont come here for stumptown coffee -- they dont sell it.
Awesome dope sick gymClimbers dream! The gym has expanded so much since Id been there 2 years ago and WOWZA much room training room, a moonbeam, campus board, and etc 😍Nice dynamic routes with slab to very overhung to roofLove love love to Dogpatch
Big place for bouldering, $20 for a early day pass before 3 pm. Fair pricing. I went in the morning at nine o’clock on Friday, a little bit cold, around 20 ppl playing around. Routes are nice and different types of walls! i went to planet granite in FEB 2018 it was big enough for bouldering and top rope climbing, Big windows for A good views to the park and sea.If you do both usually in your countries, I recommend planet granite, top rope climbing is very nice.if u want to bouldering,I think both place still good!
🐕 patch boulders!😍😍😍😍 If you like climbing dog patch is amazing to say the least! I fricken love this place! Its the biggest bouldering gym in California. It feels like there are infinite lines here. Im fairly new to climbing. I initially started getting into it last year before the pandemic hit. So my skill level/strength arent quite up to par. But whether your an experienced climber or a rookie like myself there is something here for you! There is no workout like climbing. And if your anything like myself and prefer a calisthenic workout, I highly recommend giving this a go! Its so much fun, especially if you have someone to climb with. But even if you dont the climbing community is really friendly. The people here are really nice from the climbers to the employees, and my experience thus far in the Bay has been just the opposite. So it is a welcomed change to be around so many nice people. Everyone is there to offer advice and help with your technique. DOGPATCH BOULDERS IS THE BEST! Go for yourself and I promise you wont be disappointed! You do currently need a membership to visit. The initiation fee is $100, and its $87/month. They have free weights and various ways to strength train from training walls to rings. Highly recommend getting a membership even if its just to test it for a month. Its worth every penny!
Visiting from NYC area and my friend wanted to go to the gym. Great gym! Fun setting and good movement. Didnt get to try very much because they close kinda early on the weekends, but the handful of climbs I got to get on were fun!The walls are quite high (maybe 15ish feet?) but the intro routes dont go to the top. The harder stuff does though, which I think is more appropriate.I did feel that the crashpad flooring was a little lumpier than im used to, but totally fine and not a problem. Many and varied wall angles.Kilter BoardSplash boardCampus boardWorkout area (not the very big but its got all you probably need)My stay here was only about 2 hours bc they close at 5 on the weekends, but it was fun! Would recommend and would come back.
Need to make reservations right now which is actually really great because its not super busy!Awesome bouldering spot with gym in the back
Problems are more difficult per level than pre-Covid, but thats not a real complaint! Loved going to this gym when I frequented the area pre-Covid. Now they are open and enforce social distancing on problems as well as limit capacity.
Amazing bouldering gym with really fun and creative problems. I joined as member during Covid since I recently moved to SF, and while theyve had to shut down a couple times due to local restrictions, they did a really great job of creating a safe environment while they were open. Im looking forward to being able to boulder consistently here when things improve with the pandemic. Oh, and if youre into hip-hop/R&B, youll love the music here!
Good setting.
Our first time visiting was this past Saturday with some friends. We had a blast and everyone was very friendly. So many options to choose from and all difficulty levels for all people. Parking can be tough and may be easier if you walk all the around to the back side of the building. There is also a cool little restaurant and bar which is perfect after a hard workout.
This bouldering gym is fantastic. The route setting is great and the holds are in great condition. The setting is very diverse and has a lot of variety in terms of required beta for a given route. The space is huge and I can climb here consistently without running out of problems. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is hands down one of the best climbing gyms in the bay area
Climbing area is great! Locker rooms are tiny and smelly though. And they claim to be renovating locker rooms with more space and saunas since I joined in May 2017. From their FAQ of when everything will be ready- Not in the next few months, unfortunately—expect construction to be ongoing throughout 2018. As 2019 draws to a close, it would be great to see an update..
Very nice bouldering gym! Visited on a Sunday while visiting a friend in town. Tons and tons of routes with a good distribution of grades. They use the V system and the color of the hold to map the route (I mention this because the 2 other gyms I go to in Eugene, OR and Boulder, CO use different methods). The website is not very clear, but as of December 2019, a daypass is $25 and shoes are $4 and a membership is $84 I think. There is a fitness area with 4 squat racks, rings, pull up bars, and chalk, chalk bags, shirts, and even holds for sale. I believe they had yoga and fitness also, I did see yoga props around. If I lived in SF I would definitely enjoy climbing here on the reg.
Fun place! It can get super crowded but it is the best bouldering gym in SF. I go there with my friends once a week. Coaches are helpful and gave me good guidances to get better.
Woah! Never knew bouldering could be so fun. Definitely a different experience than the other gyms that only have one bouldering wall. Tons of different angles of walls to work on and almost infinite seeming problems to work on. Very friendly to people new to bouldering. Also, a lot of great gym equipment to work on your skills.
Pretty much the best bouldering gym in San Francisco. The whole Touchstone network is pretty good, but Dogpatch is probably the best/biggest Ive been to for bouldering. They have a comprehensive variety of walls and pretty hard problems! My one gripe is that they have been increasing membership fees pretty consistently over the past few years. However, they have expanded the gym to provide more climbing space and equipment, so they are justified.
With countless problems, styles of climbing and different wall terrains to climb, the best bouldering gym in the area just got better with the recent expansion. You can climb here for hours without getting bored. I recommend stopping by Hard Knox Cafe across the street for some satisfying post-workout soul food.
The best boulder gym in the Bay Area
Easily the most impressive bouldering gym out of the approximately 10 Ive been to. The route setting is really cool, and theres a good spread of problems from beginner to advanced. Its a pretty beginner friendly gym overall, with reasonable V0s and really chill regulars. I would come here way more if I didnt live so much closer to Mission Cliffs!
Dogpatch is one of my favorite climbing gyms, mostly because I usually just boulder and this gym feels like an infinite playground to me. Even during peak hours, its large enough not to feel too crowded. The staff and patrons are so friendly and welcoming; everyone tends to be very supportive and helpful. I feel like I leave each visit with a new climbing friend! This is also a great gym to bring beginners because the easy routes are actually easy. It makes learning how to boulder much more accessible for first timers.
Gigantic space focused almost exclusively on bouldering problems. The setters are varied in their styles and techniques. There is a huge space dedicated to indoor bike racks, and lots of free parking within 2 blocks - public transit to here is just okay. The cost of climbing here if youre not a member is absolutely ridiculous though - $25 for a day pass...Overall, a wonderful gym with great people.
Big top out bouldering gym on a membership with the Touchstone system? Awesome! For those looking to escape the spiderweb of Mission Cliffs or branch out from the East Bay, Dogpatch Boulders is a great way to hone some bouldering skills with a bouldering centric gym that keeps getting bigger. It is close to good drinks, food, and transit. Parking can often be found on the street behind the gym.
Best bouldering gym you can find. Be aware that it gets very crowded right after work hours, to the point of being hard to climb..
Routes were great and people were friendly! Love that its all bouldering, and theyve got some really great safety features (ladder holds to get down safely once you reach the top of the higher routes). It wasnt too crowded when we went on a holiday weekend Sunday right when they opened, but of course thats not a great representation of crowdedness generally.
I came here as a guest of a friend, and as someone who’s new to bouldering, I was very happy to find a great variety of V0 problems. At my own climbing gym (not Touchstone), the bouldering section is small and only offers a tiny handful of V0s.
My second favorite bouldering gym in the state of California with first going to LA Boulders. Their problems are typically well balanced with both soft and hard climbs spanning a huge area especially for the city. Incredibly friendly staff as well with a solid line of snacks, gear, and shoes. The only consistent con right now is that it gets very crowded every week day past 5 PM. Other cons are only temporary as they expand the gym! They are going to expand the limited weight training section and reopen the yoga studio once construction is complete.
I love it here! I took one star away because $25 for a day pass bouldering is insane. Other than that, its less busy than Mission Cliffs but busier than Planet Granite. I wish there was a pull up bar (maybe I havent found it?!?!). I have a great time every time I come but since Im a PG member its only infrequently. Good mix of challenges routes- I really like the route setting.
A great place to practice your climbing skills. People here are wonderful and they are always down to help and support your climbing journey. Theres something for everyone here
Massive climbing gym dedicated entirely to bouldering...you know...hence the name. We enjoyed the gym a lot and it wasnt nearly as crowded as we expected (Saturday 10am-12:30pm). Wide variety of problems from straight vertical V0 to some really impressive V12 overhangs. My only feedback would be, at the lower levels, the routes are pretty simplistic and wouldnt prep a climber for breaking into the higher V2/V3 categories. Was there with some new climbers and noticed that. There V3 routes though were awesome, tons of variety and some really interesting problems to solve.
Dogpatch Boulders is one of the best bouldering gyms I have ever been too. Tons of space, great problems and friendly staff. As with any great place, it gets crowded during peak visiting hours, but theres usually enough room to still get a good workout in and people are good about being courteous to others.
The best bouldering gym Ive ever been to in the states. It is huge with a diverse range of routes. You can definitely find something fun to get on even with a crowd. Highly recommend if you like in SF or are just visiting.
There are plenty of routes for all levels at this huge climbing gym. It gets pretty crowded on weekday nights, but never to the point where its frustrating. A great place to go for experienced climbers and first timers alike!
I enjoyed the gym, but I wish there were a few more options for beginners. I have been bouldering in Europe quite a bit, and I am used to challenges that offer more variety to a novice than what the bay area has to offer. I liked that there are a few workout options as well.
Huge space and huge crowds in weekends and holidays. They have intro classes or you can opt for a day pass or membership. Few vertical walls, most are sloped.Theres also a gym in the back and cardio equipment on the front.
This place is LARGE! There is no tope rope, but lots of bouldering. Had no problem in doing routes, no waiting!
This bouldering gym is huge! There were a lot of people there on the weekend when I went, but the facility is big enough to accommodate a lot of people. They have a wide range of difficulty when it comes to the bouldering tracks. They also have a variety of routes that are difficult for different reasons whether the angle of incline, size of the holds, reach needed, etc. This gym has something for everyone. Its great you can rent shoes too.
Dogpatch is an amazing bouldering gym, possibly with no other parallel in the world (I have been to many climbing gyms). If you like climbing, you simply must check it out!
Fantastic bouldering gym. Dogpatch has a good variety of walls from super-overhung to slab style climbs and aretes. The gym is crowded in the afternoon, but the atmosphere is generally friendly and supportive rather than competitive. Plenty of indoor bicycle parking, plus a small climbing shop. Definitely worth a stop if youre interested in climbing.
Lots of different routes that are constantly being updated, so theres always fresh new problems for you to try. It does get a bit crowded at night, but nothing unmanageable. I would personally recommend going on weekday mornings - plenty of opportunity to really dissect each problem!
Great bouldering gym! People are friendly and supportive. Its a nice atmosphere with a nice variety of climbs
My favorite place on Earth. I love the setting and the atmosphere there so much
Pretty much the best thing I did for myself recently was to join this gym and start going regularly. Its near impossible to escape without making friends and you will enjoy every bit of the challenge of learning how to climb/climb better. There are routes for everyone of all skill levels and even when it gets packed, you can still climb without much of a wait. The staff are excellent at keeping the walls fresh enough but also not changing the walls too quickly so you can return to that pesky problem and crush it the next time youre there. Highly recommend this place!
The routes are incredible: always changing, and super fun for climbers of all levels. I learned to climb there, and easily got to the next levels. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly :)
Bouldering heaven as most people call it. It really is a great place for those who only care to boulder. Theres definitely a variety for all climbers and theyre expanding. Parking is almost always available in the back so thats good/convenient too.
Best indoor bouldering in the Bay area. Huge area, lots of variety, new modern holds, problems get reset fairly frequently. Downside is virtually no gym/weights and a day pass is so expensive it makes it impractical to go often if you dont want the membership. Also the membership has a $100 initiation fee which irks me but it give you access to several other gyms in the Bay area and LA area so its worth it.
Bouldering galore. Im a noob tho so all I look for is a good spread of v0s and v1s that I can take my time with. Definitely possible here because the v0s arent crowded.Generally the harder of the touchstone gyms.
I love Dogpatch Boulders! The gym is expansive with routes for all skill levels. The route setting is excellent with lots of fun challenges. Its pricey, but worth it.
This is definitely a playground for grown-ups! Theyve done an amazing job on the terrain and I love that youre able to actually climb all the way on top on some boulders and down climb. The floors are completely padded, so no need to worry about moving pads around! Im so glad Touchstone opened up a gym up completely devoted to bouldering!
Best wall Ive found in the US (& Ive been to a fair few). Clearly taken some inspiration from the new-school walls across the pond with great angles, holds and setting. Love the height too - you guys need to make more use of it though - the wicked looking prow isnt even set to the top! Might need to adjust the matts though - the landing zone below it looked a little tight. Grades felt a little soft to me but maybe I was just psyched to have found a good wall :) With all that space a woody would be nice too...
Best bouldering gym around. So many routes and theyre updated frequently
A great place to de-stress. Come vent all your frustration on the heights and obstacles. Watch amazing climbers so their magic and also, you get free coaching from well meaning and overly nice crowd there. Whether youre a pro or a beginner, there something for you. Im excited about the ongoing expansion too. I think its long overdue considering the number of people that turn up there daily. Worth every penny
Nice indoor climbing gym in San Francisco! I use to spend a whole day climbing, so many boulders!
The coolest bouldering gym in the Bay Area!!! My kids are on the climbing team and LOVE this place!!! When its bouldering season they practice here. People are cool, bathrooms and locker rooms are clean. I dont think it smells like feet but I could be wrong. Im probably use to the smell.
The best Bouldering gym in San Francisco! The setting is interesting and the walls and problems get reset often enough to keep everyone interested. Beginners: read the rules and use common sense for safety, and you will have a great time!
Hands down... pulling down.. the best bouldering gym Ive ever been to.MASSIVE and spacious interiorExcellent layout of climbsFun and engaging routes
Great gym. Visited while traveling and enjoyed myself. Style is very powerful, big moves to big holds generally. Lots of overhang and barely any slab to be found. Very high walls with long snaking routes as well.
Huge bouldering gym for a city with tons of routes. No top rope. Gets pretty crowded after work hours like most gyms. More lockers and a more spacious locker room would be nice.
Biggest bouldering gym Ive ever seen. Great routes.
More spacious and more walls than Mission Cliff. Love it!
Great gym! Would give 5 stars but this “we’re going to spend the last 7 minutes on the mic counting down how much time everyone has before they need to be out the door” thing is really annoying. Literally 10 out of the last 30 minutes are constant chit chat and announcements about how the gym is closing soon.
Dogpatch boulders is a great rock climbing gym with amazing staff. As the name suggests it is purely bouldering and has no top rope. They also have great yoga classes.
I love this place. Its huge with new rotating problems every week! Im never out of routes and keep discovering new ones I havent even seen before :) even though it gets busy after work, there are enough problems and theyre finished quick enough that you can easily do a problem once every 5 minutes at peak hours.
Really great staff and friendly climbing community.
I love DP. I even miss it when Im out of town and forced to climb at locals gyms there. Lots of different styles of climbing on various walls (slabs, overhangs, etc.). Love that its not just power move after power move like Ive seen at other gyms, which quickly becomes frustrating. They change the routes out fairly often (monthly), so sometimes Ill come back to a problem Ive been working on only to find the wall reset. Super busy after work during the week, and slammed on Sundays, Ive noticed. But friendly folks to work out problems with.
One of the best gyms in the country, hands-down. Great setters setting a variety of problems for all skill levels. Can be super crowded after work hours but its still well worth it.
Dogpatch Boulders is a massive newly opened (March 2013) bouldering gym and has definitely cannibalized all of the best boulderers from Mission Cliffs. I personally have never gotten used to the extremely long problems and for some reason, I will always prefer Mission Cliffs. Dogpatch also does not have weights or exercise machines (last I checked), so supplementing your climb with lifting is hard to do.This place is really great for bringing guests or casual climbers, however. I just prefer the dark, cramped, homely vibe of Mission Cliffs.
1st off, this place is awesome. It is by far the most comprehensive and well organized bouldering spots int he entire bay area. They have now opened some early morning hours and brought in some cardio equipment to boot. There are nice, clean shower and changing facilities and the staff is friendly and helpful. on that note, get over there and get climbing, its a hell of a workout!
This was a nice bouldering hall (lots of space and problems) but overall my feeling was that their routes were not very inspired. I only found one problem in the entire hall which got me excited. The problems were mostly muscle-ly and did not focus on footwork, smearing, or any other techniques. I was speaking with a other first time patron from Vermont and they had the same feeling that the route setting was well.....lazy....Also for the price of a day pass (25$) I would have expected something spectacular - but really it was average.
Fun place to climb. Everyone is really friendly
Great bouldering, thanks to the sheer size of this place youll rarely have to wait in line to climb a specific route even during peak hours. Theres a wide variety of climbing styles, a great atmosphere, and very efficient ceiling fans that really help you cool down.
Dogpatch is by far the best place to go bouldering in the Bay Area. Hugh wall with a lot of different grades and climb types. The gym also has a kids wall with a slide at the end which is perfect for my 19 month old.
Awesome bouldering wall. The biggest Ive been to. Fun
Went there for Women Up climbing festival. Good amount of space, the problem have a lot of range. Definitely will go there again.
My favorite climbing gym in the Bay. The facility is expansive. Cant wait till they finish the gym portion.Be sure to check out the other touch stone locations.
A huge variety of climbs available, at different levels and including lots of different styles. Staff are super friendly and the community has an encouraging and welcoming atmosphere!
Massive bouldering gym. You wont run out of problems
Great area for bouldering. Much more expansive than the bouldering section at Mission Cliffs, and there is a cute brewery/restaurant around the corner for afterwards.
Great place for bouldering for people of at all levels. As a beginner, I found a good number of beginner routes that werent too intimidating and helped build my skill and confidence. Pros: new, lots of space, plenty or routes, friendly staff, nice bathrooms.
Update: While the holds still get grimy, DPB has seem to have gotten into a better cadence with updating routes and cleaning holds as they go. Now all you have to do are find the newer routes to avoid the chalk problems. It is nice they are taking their ever-increasing entry fees and investing them back into the facility. They purchased more space, so hopefully they put in an actual gym / fitness area, and soon!Old Review: Great space. The biggest problem I have with DP is just how filthy the holds always seem to be. Definitely a step down from bouldering at Planet Granite in this regard (who power wash their holds regularly). Just take a look at how gross and dark your hands are after 20 minutes of climbing here.Really a shame, as Dogpatch Boulders was great when it first opened, but has succumbed to the effects of poor up-keeping ever since. I cant tell you how annoying it is when you fall off the wall simply because there is a permanent layer of filth on the holds that causes you to slip off. If they cared about their customers experience (and actually put some effort into earning that $79+ they charge you every month) and kept this place clean (walls and floor), itd be top notch.
Excellent bouldering. Massive selections of routes.
Great routes and a hell of a lot of room and wall space.
