Dont let the name fool you, I didnt see any ferries, well maybe I did but didnt know about it. Well anyway, they have really nice shops along the inside and outside for your purchase needs. I needed a bagel 🥯 at the time so my family and I purchased a 3 pack. They came with cream cheese. We devoured the bagels looking out toward the water and enjoyed the wonderful views of the water and city sky line. I took a panoramic photo that turned out really well and my daughter was chasing the birds.
Stopped here twice on our latest trip. Once for dinner at High Island Oysters and to get some bread from Boudin. Then back today for a shopping stroll. Found interesting items at The Gardener, picked up macrons from Miette, had a coffee from Blue Bottle, and browsed in the Book Passage book shop. Very enjoyable afternoon.
The whole bay ferry system was clicking for three of us today, including: a beautiful and immaculately clean Ferry Building; like-new, swift, and super clean ferrys; and take-offs and arrivals that they nailed to within 1 minute. What a blessing to have this gem of a system working for us--to lead us out of a nasty pandemic & help jumpstart the tourist (and City-worker) economy.
I always love visiting all the local vendors in the stalls here. A definite must see. Early morning has 2 coffee vendors with some breakfast food. Most vendors open at 10am or later. Check out the great chocolate shop there.
So sad its all closed down with a few businesses remain open. It was great to go into the city but sad. You need proof of vaccination and mask to enter all businesses
Gourmets paradise.Every single one of the food vendors was outstanding!Apart from the possibility of mixing and mayching delicious foods from the best bakeries, delis, GF bakery, wineries, and more, there are lovely picnic tables and benches to take your food outside, and eat in front of the ocean.A wonderful experience! Dont miss the book store or the other gift shops!
Hard to believe this place. Covid has taken its toll. Many places are closed. There are a handful of boutique shops remaining. I cant wait until people get vaccinated so we can return to something more like normal
Went straight to Miette and picked up the gingersnaps biscuits, gingerbread cake (noticing we favor this spice?), plus Turkish Delight candies, chocolates and all those items went in their cute pink paperbag namesake. It was so hot last Saturday so we were craving ice cream. Attempted to get some but Slocums line was 30-people deep, just as were the other ice cream places. It is a lot of fun walking through the different stores and finding products and items that remind one of the things we used to have a kids!
One of the best places to visit in SF and I lived there for a decade. Grab some oysters and eat while overlooking the bay, stock up on the best olive oil and spices, taste the best coffee (Blue Bottle), and ice cream.
Really nice with lots of good food outlets. Slightly crowded for my liking and there were long queues for the best restaurants. There is a mini flea market, which won high marks from my wife and daughter. Really fun if you combine it with a ferry trip to Sausalito. The terminals could be a bit better marked and we missed our first boat. This didnt matter too much as there was lots to do.
Great shopping market, with gourmet food venders. We bought some wine at one of the wine shops. Also had lunch at Hog Island Oyster Farm. Delicious fresh oysters.
Decent food options... empanada place pretty good. Expected more shops and nicer options, still enjoyed the place though. Artists booths outside nice to walk around and one guy had great prints of paintings of famous musicians. It was a good starting spot for my long walk uphill to/through Chinatown and then down to Pier 33.
Caught the Ferry from here to Richmond. 35 minute trip. Take a photo of the bay Bridge and city as you take off. Great photo opp. Ferry schedule online.
The ferry building is right on the bay, its beautiful!!! Me and my boyfriend were on a video chat at the time so I could show him the Ferry Building, the San Francisco bay, the view of the San Francisco skyline of the financial district during the evening. It was gorgeous
Clean and well lit. Went on a weekday morning. Was not crowded. A lot of places to buy food available here. Easily seen from the major road. Accessible to public transportation. This is a historical building and has historical significance. Come visit here for food or maybe a ferry ride. Regardless it’s a part of history and worth a visit if you are in San Francisco.
Lots to do and see here.
Easily one of my favorite stops for a quick meal in the city. There are various counter eateries inside offering a variety of quick service dining options—and I have yet to be disappointed by any of their meals.Out the back of Ferry Building are a number of benches overlooking the bay, providing a perfect spot to grab a bite or just enjoy the views. In addition to the food offerings, there are also a number of high end specialty small shops that very much are on the pricier side, but have unique gift offerings nonetheless. The Ferry Building also has an outdoor farmers market three times a week, that cannot be missed. Highly recommend their food trucks and sampling the different pretzels with dip!
Love That Place... Chocolate Covered Crickets.... Excellent...🐈😷🌉
Enjoyed a beautiful sunny day here and had some empanadas to start with that were absolutely delicious And finished off with some ice cream. The line for ice cream was long as usual and they only had one server there which I believe made the line move very slowly. I had the triple chocolate which was good, but not my favorite. My friend had the vanilla which she could not stop talking about as well as a scoop of the butter pecan. The ferry building was full of people who were happy to be out and about. Great place to walk around, there were clean bathrooms in the building, great choices of food and snacks, some shopping, a park across the street, street performers singing songs, and an unbelievable view.
Well I simply was just getting off the ferry and the shops were closed because it was 7 am, but they do have a very good selection of shops and stores including restaurants to socialize in. Riding the ferry is always comfortable and very convenient for quick travel in the bay.
One of SFs historical place you have to visit.Blue bottle coffee inside the Ferry Building plus interesting store.
Delicious food. In the ferry building there are sellers who sell variety of things from candy, homemade deserts and lots more. Outside on the dock you can see the ocean, lots of birds, the ferry boats that pass by and just enjoy the scenery.
I could fi d Clipper cards tap on machine inside the building so had to walk back to the train station. Not far!
A great welcome to San Francisco can be found in the slightly over crowded ferry building which is the perfect spot to meet or to take a trip across the bay with your bike.
Great views of the Bay and quite a few interesting places to eat.......parking can be a bit of a challenge and very expensive..... Always chose parking garages if you can in SF .... Overall we loved it and you can definitely make a whole day out of it
So much more pleasant than the BART can’t wait to venture to other cities and see all the beauty.
Eh. Ok snacks and treats, outside of the history lesson, not much else. Snap some pics but don’t spend more than 1 hour here if you’re on the Big Bus tours.
Since I arrived on an early morning ferry the businesses were just getting ready for the day and there were no crowds. This meant the bathrooms were very clean. The building is airy and has a beautiful ceiling. The businesses are definitely priced towards the tourist trade. All in all still a good place to stroll and people watch as well as enjoy the scenic area.
This place has lots of cute shops and very clean restrooms
The ferry building is always one of our favorite stops in the city. It is fun to watch the ferries and enjoy a Bay Area local treat.
Must seen! There are a lot of nice coffee and desert shop inside. Take your coffee and rest at the seats outside
Sooo oeaceful and beautiful. Good food.
If your a tourist this is a great starting point in SF! Mild activities and great for ppl watching.
Extensive farmers market and food booths. We had excellent lakes! But quite crowded. It worth visit. Lots of shops.
My new favorite place. You can sit at the wonderful tables and benches around the ferry building with free wifi and work while you watch the ferries come in and out. There are amazing places to eat at and everyone who works there be they the security guards to the shop owners and a joy to to meet.
9/5 Modernized, inside shops. Many closed on Sunday.
Always nice to visit and take in the building. It’s usually a bit touristy but during the pandemic it’s quite empty. There are a bunch of great vendors in the hall that pack a lot of the best of SF into one place. Amazing empanadas; there is a dandelion chocolate, as well as Acme Bakery and ice cream. Grab breakfast and munch on it outside looking out at the bay.
Nice place to spend half day
This place is a must visit for the history/American business and industry buff. So fun, and very interesting. Great time for the whole family. Oh did I mention tons of cool stands and shops mom!
Checkout the Saturday market here. Those hummus and bagels can be amazing!
Loved the little shops inside. It was clean. They shut down pretty early with limited hours but given the situation of the pandemic and restrictions in the area, I was happy to see shops open at all.
Loved this place and all the little gourmet markets inside! Definitely a thing you must visit while in Downtown San FranciscoI got down at Embarcadero station from BART and walked my way there. I loved the energy of the area, the weather was lovely and I got to take some cool pictures while at the building. What I loved the most was the open areas around it. Most people would go, pick up some lunch and sit on one of the benches in the pier and enjoy a day out. Even with Covid-19 and everything, this area is still enjoyable, you have the nice landscape and the space to stay far enough away from other people. The city is very small, dont miss out the chance to explore it 😉
It is what it is.Eaters expensive, view great, take a coat or lite jacket.Just because the weather is hot, sunny outside dont let that fool you. Its still San Francisco.
Excellent place to spend time with your family when you are in San Francisco. A good view of the sea and lot of restaurants to hv lunch or dinner . You can sit and relax with a view of the ocean.
As far as I know, the ferry building is at its best on Saturday mornings during the farmers market. You can find anything from smoked salmon, barbeque, chilaqules, fresh produce, cheese cakes, etc.
Very nicely done building with numerous shops and restaurants.
To truly appreciate this building one has to remember it first opened in 1898! It has subsequently gone through several transformations. Presently its (mostly) filled with small specialty food stores... most of them close round 6PM so show up early enough to fully enjoy the offerings!
I love the ice cream, market and chocolate shop in here!
I always enjoy visiting the ferry building and its nice upscale market.
Drink some white wine, and eat some oysters, enjoy the ocean, island and bridge view, you also can take the boat to the Oakland or treasure island, buy some wine, chocolate, cake and some bread back home.
Great option for a really decent lunch in a scenic and relaxing atmosphere. Lots of vendors from Italian sausage on a stick to rotisserie chicken with roasted potatoes (w/chicken drippings). Farmers market days and pop up food, what else can you ask for in the heart of the city.
Great views from the pier and lots of nice places to sit and shop.
Easy walk from Hilton Financial District. We had a nice juicy burger and a beer at Gotts. Lovely view of the Bay Bridge at the waterfront. Most of the shops were closed but the restaurants were open with outside seating.
I was passing by the early in the morning and I noticed that there were flashing strobes. I dont know if they were practicing fire drills or there was an electrical faux pas, but the magnificence of the building is always a welcome site. It reminds me of that old show The Streets of San Francisco, you would always see that shot in there of the clock tower. Most recognizable landmarks in San Francisco, which is a much loved and visited city..
Love the little shops that they have in there plus the Farmers market is great.
The Ferry Terminal is full of unique shops and eateries. The Saturday farmers market is not to miss.
Worth visiting .dont miss it especially on Saturday. Make sure to be there early
This place is absolutely fantastic. There are tons of unique eating spots and the views are breathtaking. Its a great place to relax and enjoy coffee. The restrooms are extremely clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
EL PORTEÑO EMPANADAS is great. You have to try their food.
Cute little place with shops. Photo ops
A building filled with very artesanal, upscale shops where you can buy coffee, ice cream, soaps, meats, cheeses, healthy foods, books and other goods. Could be something you take as a souvenir.I recommend blue bottle coffee they have alot of unique, never seen before coffee drinks and Ive been to many different countries, cities and coffee shops. They have a new Orleans style latte among others with interesting recipes!
This is a beautiful historical building. They have great shops there. A variety of foods, coffee, and regular shops. All of the dining was set outside, and knowing how cold and windy San Francisco can be, it made that experience, not one we were able to enjoy. Look forward to indoor dining in the future. Building is an amazing one.
Love it beautiful views
You would need couple hours to explore the ferry area, food and view the bay & SF-Oakland bridge.
Went here for Saturday farmers market and it was the best farmers market I’ve ever been to. Food made to order, flowers, veggies, fruit, meat, and more. Such a larger selection of great vendors.
Love this place. Good for food & hanging out
Lots of cute artisan shops and eateries inside and out! Very nice place to come with your family on a lovely Saturday outing.
Always a great time! I love the Ferry Building and its always a great place to go for window shopping and great coffee haha! The indoor marketplace vibes are super fun and I love the variety of coffees inside. There isnt much in the way of tourist goods or souvenirs, which I enjoy and think makes the Ferry Building more welcoming to locals which is always fun. Some items are a bit pricey, but thats nothing new for San Francisco haha!! Highly recommended
Just the place to spend your Saturday Morning in. The Ferry Building in and of itself is such a beautiful piece of architecture. You can either chill outside in the dock area and watch all the ships, or walk around the quaint little shops and eateries that are inside the ferry building. Perfect place to visit during a rainy day as well! They have book stores, coffee shops, eateries, candy store, bakeries, craft store and retail shops. They also had gingerbread houses on display when I went and it was just the cutest thing ever!
Beautiful building but not quite what we were expecting. We thought there would be more of a food court vibe with lots of options for the family, but it was really more high end specialty shops with limited lunch options that were family friendly.
Great building with some nice shops inside.
One of the coolest parts of San Francisco is coming here and checking out all the cool stuff vendors have to offer while you enjoy a delicious bite with a great view of the bay.Bring cash and enjoy samples of different produce, cheeses, seafood and more.Great place to bring friends visiting from out of town, especially if they’re into seafood and cultury-type of stuff so they can check out the cool art nearby.
Nice the Ferry Staff werent real ferries, but they were nice! Ship was safe, fast, and clean.
Good place in a big city
Tons of vendors surround the building on all sides selling you just about anything. Behind the building is great views of the Bay and the Bay Bridge.
One of my favorite places to visit in SF. Hog Island Oyster Co is a absolute must-stop. Get there early or plan to wait in line as this spot is very popular. Worth the wait though.
My favorite place to go! I used to run from Noe Valley to here, grab some delicious foods and drinks, and then take Bart or Muni back home. During the weekends, there are some nice street vendors here too and I bought some gorgeous jewelry. Also, there’s farmers markets every Thursday and Saturday except during lockdowns, of course.
