Great show. Food and drinks on both the top and bottom floors with a small stand in the middle. I definitely recommend reserving yourself a table during intermission. You can order your drinks and food ahead of time and they are ready at the start of intermission so you don’t have to wait in line. Great date night.
We came here to see A Christmas Story. Its a very small theater. I was actually quite surprised how small it was. It is also kind of nice, because no matter what state you got its probably a good one LOL.Theres of course the ground level. Then the balcony level. And then another balcony level above that, so goes up pretty high. There are what look like balcony seats that are kind of enclosed, but theyre not even facing the stage. Its a very weird set up.The lobby is very small, and you have to go upstairs to go to the bathroom. I did not see any kind of concession stand anywhere. just a little counter selling the shows merchandise. However there is several restaurants surrounding the area. The seats were pretty comfortable. A lot like those out a movie theater that fold up, and are cloth and cushioned.
I love this theater and all of the productions I have seen here over the years. I thought I knew all I needed to know about this building until the other night when I took the elevator to the Sky Lobby Bar on the 3rd floor. I discovered the top-floor Garret Room, a private space for performances, receptions and meetings. I am so glad this building built in 1906 was saved and preserved.
Great venue for an evening at the theater. I look forward to each new season.
I saw a couple well known plays here over the years . Good place to come to . And theres a good restaurant at the corner and a parking garage a block away too .
Excellent theater in a Broadway-like setting
I have been coming to this theater for 45 years . The plays that it puts on are excellent and are a real class place for the city . I used to do the Sanfrancisco Opera 15 to 25 years ago . I was a actor on stage in operas like Don Carlo where I played a Monk . And INDOMENAO where I played a guard also Nabbuko where I also played another guard .
I give A.C.T. the American Conservatory Theater located at 415 Geary St, San Francisco, CA 94102 FIVE MEMORY STARS. I will never forget DECEMBER 13TH 2016. It was my first time visiting A.C.T and had the opportunity to watch the 1843 Classic A Christmas Carol 5️⃣ 🌟S In the words of Ebenezer Scrooge BAH HUMBUG AN AMAZING THEATER.
Went in for a performance of Christmas Carol, and it was quite fun. The attendants are very nice to help get you seated. This didnt happen to me, but I watched a man come into the show with a ticket for the next days showing, but the attendants helped him find a seat even though the mans seat was already filled by someone at the current days show.
I have been coming to thus theatre now for 35 years . I started when i was going to city college back in the day . Its still a good investment for a relaxing evening . And i go to eat at the PINECREST RESTAURANT afterwards on the corner .
Lovely San Francisco institution. If those walls could talk! So much history there. Almost every seat in the house is a good one, though the seats themselves are a little worse for the wear. Whether youre a theater buff or a newbie, you can count on good quality entertainment, often thought-provoking, new, sometimes groundbreaking.
ACT is a Bay area mainstay. The plays produced here are some of the most interesting theatre you will find in the Bay area. Rarely will you ever see a big Broadway production or revival here. Instead, the season will be about interesting plays that have excellent qualities. Either great drama, funny comedy, or witty satire. While the house is big enough to support a major production, its small enough to make every seat a great one. The service is good, too. They are smart enough to let you pre-order drinks at intermission. When the lights go up, you will find your drink waiting for you on a table. Very smart! Ticket prices are reasonable, and if various ticket plans are available.
I love this please
ACT offers a wide range of continually changing productions of both new and revivals. Always well produced with great casting. The theater itself is lovely to see as well. Being an older theater the seats are a bit snug. The good news is that theres always something worth seeing.
What a great old place to see a play. Very cozy venue. Great places around to have a bite.
The theater is a lovely place to see high-quality acting and directing. Historical and ornate. The balcony seats are rather crammed, and in the front rows there is sometimes lighting equipment blocking ones view. The acoustics in the balcony can also be a bit challenging. That being said, as a subscriber, the staff is always lovely to me when I call, go to the box office, or see a show. Twice I have had my seats upgraded out of the blue... That made a huge difference to our enjoyment!
Great venue with good seats even in the wings. Lovely and efficient staff. One of the better places to see a show in SF.
A beautifully classic stage and auditorium. We sat in mezzanine in the back row...great seats...I suspect not really a bad seat in the house. The stage is rather large for the size of the auditorium.
Saw Toni Stone - remarkable show. The venue is fairly intimate with a small balcony and great views from every seat.
The theater was great but the person at the ticket office said that the doors opened at 7 and the play started at 7:30. But The play started at 7. Why would he do that? We were late. Wed payed extra for better seats but missed the beginning and had to see the first part of the play from the back and were treated like it was our fault.
I loved it here. The location was great because I could walk straight from the BART which was great as I dont have a car. It was also right next to a Starbucks which I could stop by on my way there and or back. It is also right next to the ice cream museum which I got to go to after my class. They also teach Amazing classes. I had so much fun and learned so, so much. I 100% suggest going here.
Super helpful staff and welcoming atmosphere! We really enjoy all the shows they put on.
Attend A Christmas Carol every year. What can I say? Great theater- outstanding performance- this has become a much anticipated holiday tradition for the family.
A Christmas Carol was great. First time for my son at any live theatre show. We loved it. The decour is also very beautiful.
Great place to watch a play. People are very friendly and facilities are well maintained.
Lovely theatre . Great seat and very fine acting. Play so so but I enjoyed it.
Basically untenable seats. I’m 6’3” and had to leave the theater due to the pain from sitting in year 1900 seats. For the $100 I pad for a ticket, I’d expect more comfy seating. I will not return to this theater.
Convenient location with access to several public transportation options and parking garages. Nice theater, good acoustics. Friendly and helpful usher staff. Good bar, with some wine and cocktail selections, with effective reservations process for drinks at intermission. As theater bathrooms go, there are enough stalls for women so lines move at a good pace.
The building is beautiful on the inside. Even from the very last row, theres still a great view of the stage. If you go online, you can find tickets for a very reasonable price and the performances are amazing.
Comfortable seating with good sight lines. Bar downstairs. Easy to get to. Good sound. Beautifully restored.
Easy parking! Fantastic box office staff 👍 and marvelous unique plays!
Great staff. Not rushed. Tmely and polite.
Loved this theater! The setting is beautiful--high ceilings, wonderful tapestries and comfortable seating. They have wine nights where they serve free wine on top of their already reasonable bar prices. Beers are only $4 which makes them cheaper than most bars in this neighborhood and they offer snacks throughout the entire performance. The shows are usually fantastic and it makes for a great night out!
We’ve been subscribers for 30 years. We live the productions and the Geary Theatre. Never a bad show. Get seats in Row H for the best legroom. It’s an exit row. We’ve had these seats for 15 years and won’t trade them!
One of the best local theaters in San Francisco. It is too notched and beautiful.
Play was great. One of the best shakespeare productions Ive seen. However my experience with ACT itself was poor. The ticket checkers were in a rush and accidentally scanned by tickets twice and then it said that the ticket had already been used. We were redirected to another person who at last let us go to our seats but then the usher refused to allow us in our seats even though it was clear no-one was going to take our seats. We had to wait up the top of the balcony until someone made the usher allow us to sit down.
Great place to meet friends for a night out. Easy to get to using public transportation. Found the greet staff to be helpful and courteous.
A lovely venue. I had no problems hearing from the mezzanine though apparently some others complained about the sound in the balcony. Thoughtful staff
Show was awesome but the seats were extremely tight. Im 63 and weigh about 260. 8 could not wait for the intermission to stretch my legs! The staff was amazing too!
A.C.T. is one of the few places in San Francisco that I know of where you can see live theater (which is a shame). They have $12 last-minute tickets, so a great way to check it out if youre not sure. Worth taking a risk on a new play! Although their rendition of A Christmas Carol is usually very good too.
The theatre was completly refurbished, and beautiful, not to mention the various onsombles tjat put on shows.
Great show! Good acting and awesome set and vibe
Man this place has awesome pasta and a great atmosphere for private parties.
The theatre here is great. All the seating can easily see the stage. Pricing can be expensive but sometimes they have sales on their orchestra seats for 25. The actors were great on the show we saw, my wife informed me that act rarely hires local talent and mostly hires from new York.
Great productions are put on here in this old theater. The seats are comfortable but small. It can get chilly in the balcony area, so bring a cover-up. Acoustics are great (based on what Ive seen there).
Wow what a great experience! First time here was for a showing of the Christmas Carol, and my wife and I will be back for sure. Its a beautifully historic venue, and while the nosebleed seats are fine, try to avoid sitting all the way to either side because the lighting fixtures can block some of your view.
This place never disappoints great little theater actors are top shelf the facility itself is beautiful well-kept and semi affordable for the average theater crowd Bravo keep up the good work
I attended A Night with Janis Joplin with balcony seats as it was almost sold out. Great show, I recommend it!The (balcony) seats are quite small and you are likely going to rub elbows with your neighbors. Leg room is next to nothing. If you are tall you may be uncomfortable. On the 3rd floor there is a bar with a handful of options.
Best place to see a show.
ACT performance was great! Ive always Loved attending their dramas. XOXO 😍
It is nearly impossible to rate a Theater company, rather than a particular play. However, along with Berkeley Rep, this is your best bet for great live theater in the Bay Area. Nearly everything we have seen here has been good to great. It is a bit expensive, as most high-end theater is. However, bargain tickets can be found if you take the effort to look around online.
I saw a Christmas Carol and it was a great environment and a good show!
Great theater with interesting plays. Food too! A nicely remodeled historical building.
It was a beautiful theater! We were in the mezzanine area; the seats maybe could use an update as they were told a little oddly, but that did not detract much from a great night of theater!
Greeter, seller, ticket taker, usher, bar tender .... they all exceeded my expectation. And the drama was first rate! Good visit...
Great theater for plays. But, the nose bleed section has a steep incline and you can get vertigo. Warning! The first row of the Balcony is bad. There is a bar of equipment going through there that obstructs the view. Donr get those seats!
Fantastic show on New Years Eve with Sutton Foster
Love the productions at ACT! See A Night with Janice Joplin before its over! The show is awesome and my friend who knew her said the show is just like the real Janice. And say hello to Oliver, the friendly door man while youre there.
Beautiful theater and almost always wonderful acts. Order a drink before the play for intermission and skip the lines. Love going for out nights - free cocktails and dessert after the show.
San Franciscos long-running conservatory theater, ACT has a history of presenting award-winning plays, as well as perennial favorite A Christmas Carol. The theater is lovely, with orchestra, mezzanine and balcony seating.
Ive seen a handful of shows at ACT and Ive always enjoyed the experience. Its not so big that you feel disconnected from the actors on stage.Appeal: Usually have provocative plays and good production value.Facilities: A little dated (stuffy, tired carpeting) and could use some updating.Service: Long lines for womens restroom and drinks are to be expected! Organized will call window.
This theater was refurbished several years ago and serves ACT very well as its main stage. Its an intimate setting for stage performances. They have a bar downstairs that offers libations before the show and during intermission.
Saw a great play here (A thousand splendid suns). The acting was excellent and the story compelling. The seats were pretty tight and close and generally uncomfortable.
Went in to purchase a giftcard not knowing anything about the theater and service was really helpful. They took time to explain everything and made sure we left happy. The building itself is beautiful.
ACT is a Great théâtre Company. Current production of Ionescos Rhinoceros is excellent.
Not really a bad seat in the house, and good quality theatrical productions in SF. Almost makes you think youre in London or NYC. (Almost)
We came here around Christmas time to see my favorite Christmas story, A Christmas Carol. The venue was beautiful. We found the chairs comfortable and the view perfect from where we sat. Id come here again for another play.
This is a beautiful theater. They have fantastic shows here and it is not too far from BART. The tickets are not too expensive. The one issue I have is that the seats are very cramped.
Lovely old theatre with adequate bathrooms!Wonderful performance of a Christmas Carol perfect for the entire family!
Great classic theater of San Francisco. Box seats ok, prefer Mez seating. Way more relaxed about beverages at your seat. Bathroom lines still long.
No alcohol. Uncomfortable seats. Pretty though
Good theatre. Would theatre again... for theatre.
Good customer service...not the most comfortable seats but overall a nice venue.
Always a good place to catch a play or musical! Whether its 4000 miles, A Normal Heart, Major Barbara, etc., the sets and actors are solidly awesome.Tip: Buy your tickets from Goldstar for $12. Discounted and you can send out links to your friends to sit with you. Youll have seats on the second floor, but if you dont mind looking down into the stage, there isnt a better deal for quality live performances. The old man who works as an usher on the second floor can get crabby, but just dont eat or even really touch your cell phone so he doesnt freak out.
Saw opium and needles there; good tickets from goldstar; seats as one might expect from an old theater, legroom minimal (they must have been a lot smaller back then); very innovative set for this play. Good venue for theater in SF
If youre interested in a theatre that treats their patrons shabbily, has less leg room than the shark tank and has loud music and commercials before the show like a movie theatre then this is your Mecca. Thats harsh but the fact is they simply are not a good playhouse. I was in the mezzanine and since Im 61 it was uncomfortable in the extreme. I was told after I complained that I could have requested something with more leg room. Nice to know after the fact but completely unhelpful for the show. I should mention that I did walk out. Even the attendants were snippy and ride. But my hat is off to my excellent bartender. He was wonderful!
Ancient theater with ornate designs. It comes with itty bitty seats that even tiny people like myself are uncomfortable in. Views are good from all angles which is good. Otherwise its a great place to watch a play. Support your local theater.
Great place. Feels like a classic theatre. I saw the Christmas Carol there and i was very impressed!
Great place with quality production. And you can get good deals on tickets
This place is awesome but I sat in the balcony and my legs literally wouldnt fit between my chair and the chair in front of me. I kid you not my knees were touching the person ahead of me. I had to sit sideways. I felt like I was in a childrens seat. Im hardly 6ft.
Awesome venue. Lowest (orchestra) seats are the best, but mezzanine are decent. I would avoid the balcony.
ACT has upped their game in recent years by putting on plays relevant to a wider audience with the same high quality production values
Great performances, amazing sets, phenomenal acting but super tiny seating everywhere but $$$ first floor.
The premier dramatic theatre in the San Francisco Bay Area. Saw When Father Comes Home From the War last time. Very interesting!!
Orchestra was fantastic. I was up stairs and could not read theScreen. The angel was very poor for our section. This made it hard to follow the story line
Saw the musical about Janis Joplins life and it was wonderful! A great theater where truly all the seating is good and such a fun place to catch a show!
One of the best local theaters. Great and sometimes challenging plays, okay bar area but somewhat uncomfy seats. Always preorder your drinks if you want to avoid the super long lines during intermissions...
Great venue for live theater. Great productions
I go here a lot sometimes just to sit and enjoy a drink from the snack shop I the lobby for some there are classes and always something happeningon one of the many stages get dressed up and show it off this place is truly fun
