I talked to Nick Rich after doing lots of research. I had 3 well known theater vendors provide contracts for a complete theater, and was not happy with the choices - they were not listening to me or my budget. Nick was amazing - he helped with equipment choices, set-up, and overall advice. Now I have a fantastic home theater. (7.2.4 w/152 screen) Audio Advice is the best place to go, and Nick is the greatest knowledgeable source I have ever met. I could not have asked for better guidance, products & support for my DIY project. It was an excellent purchase, customer service experience!
We’ve upgraded our H-T system in the living room with focus on audio. Replaced the trusty Sonos soundbar with a trio of B&W speakers: a pair of 706S2 fronts, HTM71S2 center, an SVS SB-1000 Pro sub, driven by a Sony STR-ZA810ES a/v receiver. We moved the existing Sony LCD from tabletop to an articulating wall mount (a huge asthetic improvement), and upgraded the Apple TV to the latest 4K model (a huge improvement over the previous series - especially the remote!). The installers tuned and optimized the configuration and we are very pleased with the overall audio and video improvements - thanks to Ivan for the sales advice, and Tom and Giermo for the installation and setup! My wife and I have entrusted Audio Advice with the majority of our audio and video acquisitions for nearly 40 years now with very positive results and experiences (great job Leon!). Highly recommended.
I have been working with Ivan at Audio Advice for more than 20 years. Over this time never have I felt that they tried to sell me something thatI do not ask for or try to sell me something that I did not need. They do not up-sale like some other places. In addition to this their service and support have been truly awesome.Recently I upgrade my old projector to a new 4k projector. Not only did they give my a good price for the old equipment but Ivan came out and calibrated my entire system (A+V). It looks spectacular and sounds even more amazing than before.It you want the best advice, service and support give them a call. Nothing but the best in my experience.
The staff was super helpful and very knowledgeable. They do have a really good selection of high end audio and home cinema equipment. One of the few places left which does not try to upsell you on every little thing and I am thankful for that. The staff was willing to take the time to help me gain product knowledge and show me how to properly setup my equipment. If you are looking for low budget or value big box store goods (think Best Buy,) this is not that. If you want excellent service and quality equipment then Audio Advice is the place to go.
Nick was awesome to work with. Definitely someone that goes above and beyond, putting in the time to work with people all over the country. He was very knowledgeable in the equipment needed for my theater, as well as overall construction and design. The prices are competitive. Would highly recommend Nick at Audio Advice. Im not at all an audiophile, and I had a lower budget than this place seems to cater to. But I had the pleasure of working with a couple folks here. The first guy was Larry, a self-proclaimed A/V geek who spent a bunch of time essentially shopping for me. He was extremely helpful, not at all pushy about upselling, and I couldnt be happier with the speaker-set I came home with. I know these guys work on commission, but I hope the company has some way of recognizing when theyve earned a customer whod be back there the instant I get the itch for an upgrade.The second guy was John. After waiting a couple weeks past the ETA for the remaining two speakers, it was discovered that an ordering mixup with the manufacturer resulted in them now being on a 6 month back-order. Rather than inflict that on me, he set me up with a slight upgrade at the same price that they happen to have had in stock that day. Well worth the extra wait. Thank guys. Looking forward to seeing you again down the road.
I would not have been able to design my theater without the work of Nick Rich. Nick created a room design based on my available room dimensions. He provided a drawing for the precise location of 13 speakers. His recommendation of the proper equipment, both audio and visual, was critical for the outcome I was looking for.After the arrival of all equipment, Nick spent several hours with me over three or four video calls to balance all speakers, set up of the picture and answer all my questions on proper operation.I now have an incredible theater that is exactly what I wanted. These guys are great. Very experienced. Bought a new turntable setup from them. When I got home, the stylus was not aligned correctly... must have been moved during packing or something. How many times have you completed an ON LINE contact form hoping to get a call back from someone? I was surprised by not only getting one call back but two and both the same day I completed the form. Audio Advice came out of the gate strong and stayed that way. I felt fortunate to speak with someone that had an expert level of understanding on the different home automation systems I was looking at. It was refreshing to have a company that sold multiple systems help me determine which system was right for my needs. I never felt pushed one way or the other and felt comfortable in the advice I was given. It was great getting honest and unbiased answers to all my questions. If you are looking for a home automation system (or any audio video needs) dont hesitate to give these guys a call. I sent 2 separate requests for assistance through the website. Weeks later, I left a voice mail. And then used an online chat to ask for help. Was told to call the store again. Then was promised a return call....and still no response. If this is the customer service when I’m trying to BUY the products, I can only imagine the customer service after the purchase. Truly unfortunate.
I just called the online sales 800 number and I talked to Nick. He was immensely helpful. He walked me through exactly what I needed to buy and how to set it up. It has been more than a year since Audio Advice installed my home Network and Television system, and I cant believe how satisfied I still am. Their service department has kept in touch through email and answered my questions on the phone, in person, and through a video conference where they fixed a minor software update problem and product recall. I feel the staff gives me personal attention at a fair price when needed. As an extremely satisfied customer I would recommend their service! Im so glad I didnt make the mistake and choose a big box store setup and leave service!

Hate to do this, because I was extremely excited an optimistic about my home theater when I made a visit to audio advice, but unfortunately the experience ended in disappointment.Good things: great showroom with many areas to explore different experiences, staff was very friendly, seems to have a great selection. Educational youtube videos were awesome and not only provide value but really sell on on the company!Why 2 stars:On first visit 2 the store, I waited over 30 minutes to be helped. I was dressed in rags due to recently painting my bonus room so maybe they thought I wasnt a serious buyer, but it was a little irritating. That being said once I was helped the rep was a pleasure to speak with.After describing what I was looking for, the rep came to my house, assessed the needs on site, then delivered a proposal by the next day. Awesome. Wife and I came in to review proposal and show her their demo rooms. Proposal was for around 16k but for some reason didnt include wiring or labor yet. Here iss where awesome became less awesome. The rep showed us a room the demod the in ceiling front speakers (not atmos, left center right), and I didnt really like them. Despite this he insisted this was the best solution. He also suggested a remote that was not compatible with the new google play 4k with android TV built in. And he had no idea what would be compatible. Said he would do research and get back to us with a final proposal. That was literally the last time I heard from Audio Advice, no final proposal, no follow up....So this wouldnt be enough for me to write a review, especially since despite dropping the ball, I liked the rep and things happen... But on happenstance during a visit to best buy I decided to stroll into the Magnolia area to test some of their equipment. The rep there was knowledgeable and friendly, showed him my quote from audio advice and he immediately saw the remote issue, they were simply using an old model, the new model supports the android TV. He suggest I at least have a magnolia rep come to the house and give their recommendations. From there the experience between audio advice and magnolia was night and day. For starters they LISTENED to what I really wanted, even took the time to take me into their Cary demo room and play through the different brands at my speaker price point. I am going to end up spending almost twice as much with Magnolia (just under 30K, including wiring and installation). The experience with them really just showed how uninvolved the experience with audio advice was. The experience was night and day. This is a shame since Id much prefer to support a local boutique brand than a huge big box brand.**Update, a co-founder reached out to me personally to apologize and explain the situation. Things happen, and businesses are bound to come across negative interactions, but the extra effort to rectify it does not always happen. Ive updated my rating to reflect the update in service level!

I cant say enough about this place. Ivan helped me with my analog setup. I can and got the phono pre first. Then I want happy with my table. I came back for a mofi ultradeck and they were out. Not only did he assist me in ordering one, but also loaned me the demo model so I could enjoy the sound until mine came in. You cannot ask for better service. Ivan did everything he possibly could to help me. Lifetime client here now.
I can not recommend Audio Advice. I initially ordered a set of speakers based on their advice, it was only after a month of waiting and doing a followup was I told he speakers were on back order. I instead ordered a different set of speakers that were in stock, the speakers were received but the speaker stands were not. I was told they would be shipped the next day, however 3 weeks later I still had not received the speaker stands. Once again I followed up and have been told by Audio Advice again they will ship the speaker stands today, we will see. I am not happy with Audio Advice. Late August Audio Advice has called and apologized express shipped the speaker stands and refunded their cost. While what happened is factual, Audio Advice has tried to make up for it. So I am changing my review to 2 stars.
Let me start out by saying I have not had a great experience with many of the stereo shops in Raleigh, that is until I discovered Audio Advice. I went in last Saturday after discovering that they had the turntable cartridge I was looking for in stock, at the same price as Amazon by the way, and I was truly shocked when I was asked to bring my turntable in a couple days later for them to align my cartridge and calibrate my turntable for free; this is something I have never experienced before at local stereo shops. It seems as if most places do not care about you if youre spending less than a grand, but not here, I purchased a 40 dollar phono cartridge and was treated as if I were buying a $15,000 set of Klipschorns. 100% would recommend!

UPDATED REVIEW (5/8/2021):Once again, Audio Advice has provided excellent service and support. Recently, we had an interior project that required full removal of my home theater system and then a rebuild to put it all back. As part of the process, some adjustments were made to improve ventilation and equipment cooling, and additional improvements to our Control4 setup were completed.Coordination was excellent - we were able to schedule a date for the equipment tear-down, have our interior work (paint/carpeting) completed, and have everything back up and running all within a period of less than two weeks.The most important aspects of Audio Advices service are their people, and I have had a consistently great experience with their support and service. Luke provided efficient and prompt scheduling, answered my questions and provided guidance and support. John and Adrian provided the on-site tear-down, rebuild and reconfiguration and were among the best installers I have had.
Ive been doing business with Audio Advice since 2001 when they designed and built my first home theater. I am a audio geek so I wanted a theater system that also was able to give me the highest quality audio to listen to my Super Audio CDs (SACD). They were able to give us the best of both audio and video using Genelec studio monitors, Lexicon DSP, and Runco video projector. Audio Advice has guided me through 3 upgrades to my audio and video over the year. I currently have the same Genelec studio monitors (still the best IMO) and a Sony 4k projector, with a Stewart 2.35:1 widescreen configuration. I just purchased a second home and am looking forward to Audio Advice designing and building a new theater. These guys take great pride in what they do. It has been a pleasure doing business with them for the past 19 years.

Ivan took the time to patiently listen to my needs, provide excellent technical advice, and walk me through options to meet my price point.Truly exceptional was the courtesy visit Ivan made to my home to professionally calibrate my new system. The difference between my calibration versus Ivan’s expertise and superior tools was dramatic, resulting in a seamless blend and balance of sound that genuinely rivals the theater experience. Kudos to Chip at Audio Advice!I had another exceptional customer service encounter today when I stopped at the Raleigh store to discuss a problem I was having with radio frequency signals between my universal remote and the integrated audio-visual devices with which it communicated. Chip warmly greeted me upon arrival and asked me to explain the problem. He listened attentively and patiently as I told him what was happening. After listening he told me what he thought the problem might be and explained why. To be certain that the problem would be fixed, Chip suggested one of their experienced technicians make a house call to check things out and he arranged that while I was there.When I got home, I used the helpful information Chip had shared me and was able to solve the problem myself! I immediately called Chip to thank him. He was delighted he had helped diagnose the problem and suggested we cancel the technician’s home visit if I felt everything was working properly.Now that is what I call Great Customer Service! And that is just one of the many reasons why I would recommend Audio Advice to a friend or family member.And to be absolutely fair about this, I also need to send Kudos to Mel Lewis, our personal home entertainment advisor from Audio Advice. He wasn’t there today but has always been more than 100% helpful.

Disappointed. They sell Sonos gear, but appear to have zero interest in it or any other more discrete/compact type solutions, which is what were in need of at this point. I called and was advised they have a variety of Sonos equipment and its available for demo, so we went in. They were only (barely) able to demo one discontinued Sonos piece of equipment with one song.They couldnt manage a connection to any of their other Sonos gear (this is super simple...) and they lost connection to the other music sources after that single song played. Of all the audio gear in that place, the Sonos should have been the absolute easiest to demo.I was curious if they had any other recommendations for our current needs and the person had zero interest. He put down the Sonos gear, and anything similar saying that it just doesnt have the fidelity theyre after. I even explained I had the ability to integrate a discrete in-wall speaker system with a center thatd fold out of the ceiling (specific situation...) to maintain the discrete look, and nothing.What about your customer and what they need? Surely doesnt seem like a professional shop, despite all appearances.
Greg Duthcher did installation work for me twice this month. He is an outstanding technician. He is very knowledgeable, professional, diligent and willing to go the extra mile for the customer. A true pleasure to have into my home for technical assistance.
Audio Advice has a level of service and professionalism that is truly exceptional. Just today Greg Outcher came to swap out a unit that Audio Advice had seen higher than normal problem with so they replaced with unit without charge fixing a problem before there is a problem. Greg is relatively new to Audio Advice but has the same great attitude as every staff member Ive ever met.

I have called and left multiple (more than 5) voicemails to the service department and even the store manager Jim. No one will return calls to service the home equipment I recently purchased. I have spent more than $50k with this company over the years. They will not be involved in my tech upgrade next year
The folks at Audio Advice are fantastic! We’ve been two years in a row to their warehouse clearance sale and have walked out both times with a car full of equipment. Even though we’re clearly on the “budget” end of the client scale, their customer service has been second to none as we’ve set up our systems, and we’ll continue to recommend them to everybody we know.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They helped me answer a few questions on two pieces of equipment. Then got the one I chose setup in store. Price wise or was a lower tier item, the service from Ivan was like I was buying a high tier item. Great service.
Awesome staff, awesome support, and awesome products. This is not a blue box store. They focus on discerning products. If you want advice and input on choosing, say, a Grado cartridge or a Black Pearl cartridge for your turntable, they will answer all your questions and make sure you get what YOU want. They know their stuff.
I convinced my younger brother to purchased a sound system from this store. He was suffering from DEPRESSION after returning from Vietnam.First I spoke with the sales man I trusted to sell my brother a sound system around $12,000 because I was paying for it. The salesman agreed to the amount so next I spoke with my brother about spending only $12,000.A week later my brother showed me a system that cost $39,000 and another selling for $24,-000 from the salesman I TRUSTED.I left work and rode to the store to confront the slick sick salesman. He would not look at me and never spoke.I realize these people are only looking after number 1. I realize now every time this store ordered a item for me it was ALWAYS WRONG.YEARS LATER MY BROTHER DIED IN A FREAK ACCIDENT, SO I called the store to ask what my brother’s system was worth since I was going to sell it and no longer needed it. He said he could not give an appraisal on my decease brother EQUIPMENT. My attorney COULDN’T BELIEVE IT BUT THIS WAS A BLESSING BECAUSE WE FOUND A VERY PROFESSIONAL STEREO STORE.——-.Please read SALESMAN TOLD ME, He was a young guy, I remember he came over to my house to repair my system.He did nothing since I figured out what was wrong, but he stayed running his mouth for over 40 minutes, we all know why, he was getting over on me and the store. I recently purchased a piece of audio equipment from them as they were the only dealers to carry it. I received the item quickly with it being shipped the same day. When I developed a problem with it that was not covered in the manual and for which I could not find an answer online, I contacted them via email. I received a rapid response from Leon, whom in reading these reviews, I now know is the founder! He was most helpful and resolved the issue.That was all great but what REALLY made me want to write this review is that I casually asked Leon about another new piece I recently purchased locally with which I was having a problem. They not only installed all of our home theater and commercial grade network but have continued to service every problem we have had - to include problems not caused by any of their equipment! Today we had the pleasure of meeting Greg Dutcher, a service technician. He kept working on our problems until everything was resolved. I ordered a modular AV cabinet around the time that the manufacturer apparently changed their finishes: part of the cabinet came in the old finish; part of it in the new. Chip took the situation in hand and arranged replacements in the right finish, even sending a team to deliver and assemble them. Kudos to Chip and Audio Advice!
I am lucky to live 20 minutes away from this gem of a place. I walked in hesitant as to what Ill experience and ended up ordering an entire analog system. I was looking for a Turntable and Speaker/Amp combo and Larre helped me piece it together after we talked budget and what I wanted to get out of it. He was a joy to deal with. We sat down and demoed a couple of loudspeakers that he recommended and talked music for a good hour or so. Fast forward a week later, I am now in my living room and I am at awe of what I am hearing. The whole experience was well worth the time and the money spent and I will be sure to be back again for my acoustical needs. Thank you all for making this such a pleasant experience. Ill sure stop by again soon as I am constantly chasing the dragon of musical fidelity.
I came in to purchase a new cartridge for my turntable. Ivan was very helpful, making sure I understood they offered complete set up service and that I knew what I was getting into, all without being condescending. He also showed me some options to improve my listening experience. This was all done with primary interest in me having the best possible audio experience, even offering an opportunity to test drive speakers over the weekend. I had fun, I liked their vibe, and Ill be back no doubt to purchase those speakers!
Ive been working with Ivan (sales) since I first bought my home a few months ago. Ive gotten some great deals but most importantly Ive gotten great equipment and never felt like I was pushed into anything.Today has been my install today and my great experience was furthered by Sam and David. I couldnt be happier with both the look and sound of my system (consisting of both new and some of my older equipment). Its never sounded nor looked better. Time to make some popcorn and start watching some movies!

Although I feel I have quality components in my system (several from Audio Advice) I wasnt getting the most out of it. Ivan came to my house and optimize every piece of my audio-video system and the results are amazing. It is impressive what can be accomplished when you work with a true professional. Absolutely wonderful products and service from Audio Advice in Raleigh. Ive been to the store several times both for home audio equipment (and advice!) and an upgrade to my headphone setup. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They encouraged me to take my time to evaluate all the options and gave me the information and resources I needed to make good choices. One of the staff members even gave me his personal phone number so I could call him on his day off for advice on subwoofer placement. Cant beat that!Edit: if I could give them 6 stars I would. Bought a pair of speakers at their warehouse clearance sale. The speakers were *amazing*, but unfortunately one of the drivers was broken. I called and left a message. Audio Advice representatives called me every day to give me an update and continued to give me updates on how to get the speaker repaired/replaced even when I couldnt answer the phone. They were persistent and made sure to get back in touch with me. My experiences with this store have been nothing short of exceptional. Started out by going to Best Buy and getting some advice on speakers for my home theatre. Although the guy with Magnolia was nice he seemed light years behind the expertise at Audio Advice, in particular Chip. Audio Advice has it all starting at mid range and going to extremely high range (just ask to listen to there 1/4 million dollar room). I ended up buying some Bowers and Wilkins 683 S2s and the matching Center channel to start out my 5.1.2 Atmos setup. Chip was very helpful along the way in our decision he even came out to the house and analyzed my space for free and gave recommendations. All in all I would recommend checking Audio Advice out. These guys know what they are talking about and are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Thanks again Chip!
I recently had a technical issue with my Audio Research amp and brought it to Audio Advice in Raleigh for repair. I brought the amp in on a Saturday morning and Steve, the resident technician, repaired the amp the same day. I was able to take the repaired amp home that same afternoon. Since I live out of town this was a great service to me. Thanks Steve for the great job you did. I have been to Audio Advice many times over the past 15 years. Ive always been impressed by the combination of extremely high end equipment and incredible customer service. The staff is knowledgeable, passionate and very friendly.About a month ago I purchased a powered speaker per the advice of Chip. Roughly 30 days after the date of purchase, the speaker failed to turn on. Chip agreed to exchange the speaker for a brand new one. He was great to work with and made the exchange process painless.I have recommended Audio Advice to many people and will continue to do so. Chip is consummate professional and provides customer service among the best I have experienced.

Always a top notch experience at Audio Advice! I purchased my Integra receiver about two years ago and immediately fell in love with this store. Just recently however, my receiver started to experience issues. I brought the receiver back for warranty repairs and was blown away by the exceptional service. Steve, the repair technician was very helpful and was able to provide clear, concise answers to my questions. I also had the pleasure of working with Chip again (Chip had originally sold me the receiver). Chip was also very helpful and both Chip and Steve were able to provide me with a loaner receiver while mine was being repaired. I was not expecting a loaner at all, but they had one available that I was able to use.After receiving the loaner, I spoke to Chip about various upgrades I could add to my home theater setup. He certainly knows a lot about audio technology and sold me on a few ideas on how to increase the quality of my setup. In addition, he is also very friendly and we certainly related on our love for surround sound music.Overall a great experience! Thanks for the exceptional service!

I just moved to the area and my wife and I were comparing a few companies for our home theater with a budget of $20 - 25K. We had already received quotes from Best Buy and Intelligent Electronics and were hoping to have a third.When we stopped in Chip (He was one of the most pompous sales person Ive met or had the displeasure of dealing with) met us and fairly quick into the greeting stated how much better they were then their competitors (paraphrasing) and how they were rated top in the country just a few years ago. He then went on to state that theyd more than likely be more expensive then any others and it was because he had the best technicians in the area. The way we were treated made us feel like he didnt really care about selling us anything because our price point wasnt closer to $100K. This was odd because they do have a room that is geared towards someone with a $10K budget. He stated he would send us a quote; however, weeks later weve yet to receive a quote or any communication from him. They do have a great showroom, but very poor service...Things obviously worked out because we decided to give our business to Intelligent Electronics. Go there and ask for Ed... trust me, service was much better and I felt like he cared about helping us make a decision that was best for us. He provided a quote that same day and didnt rush us in our decision.
Spoke with Chip today and he was incredible! Great personality, advice, and products. I was really impressed with how the model rooms were set up and gave me a clear idea of want I wanted. Im looking forward to working with them really soon!!!

We initially went to Audio Advice to look for a new turntable; we were impressed with the choices for not just turntables but all sorts of audiophile equipment. We worked with Larre Reeves, who was exceptionally helpful and trustworthy. He worked with us to identify how we listened to music, as well as what kind of space we used for listening. Both were very important to us. He offered choices based on that discussion, and his assessment and guidance through the myriad of choices was spot on every step of the way. He let us drive the decision-making process, and recommended auditioning equipment before making any decisions. Overall, it was a simply amazing experience, and I would recommend Audio Advice, and Larre, for their expertise, guidance, and installation of amazing audio products. Our equipment exceeded our expectations, even after we auditioned every piece of it!

Amazing experience! The entire team fulfilled and exceeded all of our needs and expectations. Shane, V, Travis, and Blake all carefully explained everything and worked on things until we were understanding exactly how it all worked. The team treated my home with respect and like it was their own. They installed a “whole house smart home system” so they were on site for quite sometime so we got to know them all well. They have been there for us at very odd hours of the night when we couldn’t remember how to do things, they still are available by phone anytime, and they come over to look at things when they can tell that we aren’t sure of how to operate things. I would highly recommend audio advice for anyone, no matter how big or small the job. They are well knowledges and versed in all things “tech”! The guys did an awesome job on my pool sound system. Randy and Jason came out with a sample set up prior to purchase to let me hear what to expect from the Sonance system that they recommended. I told them I wanted the pool to sound like a “Vegas Club” and they definitely came through. The techs also installed Sonos retro-fit all over the new house and updated my theater room. The whole house sounds amazing! I had just moved into a new home a few weeks before a big Memorial Day party I was planning and Randy accommodated the schedule to make sure everything was ready in time. The technicians were very nice and professional. Top notch job will definitely call them for anything else I need!

FANTASTIC! Jeff and Karl came to the house to hook up SONOS system for us. My condo was built in the 1940s and nothing was as expected. The work was done over a two day period of time, they were courteous, careful, and incredibly knowledgeable. They answered all my questions and went out of their way to explain things.They pride themselves on zero footprint and the work they did was exceptional.Highly recommend without reservation.
I have been a customer since 2000 and always keep coming back because they are the best! They will bend over backwards to make sure everything is perfect. I recently upgraded my home theater and to everyones surprise there were some issues with some of the components, but I was very impressed when they replaced a receiver on a Friday evening, made follow up emails and house calls to make sure things were fined tuned. Being a full house sound system newbie-Chip at Audio Advice recommended and oversaw installation of a Sonos system in our new home in Raleigh, NC. I have to say it was easy to learn and we love it so much. They also installed several flat screens and speakers throughout the house. Everything was very professional and done perfectly. My wife and I were in the process of pricing out home theaters for our third floor and a co-worker of mine mentioned Audio Advice as his go to place for all things related to home entertainment. I promptly added AA to my list of prospects and setup a consultation.Ivan Halbach was assigned to come assess my requirements and boy am I glad he was. Ivan was extremely attentive to both my wife and myself and designed a system which met both our needs without compromising too much of what was important to us both. For example, I am a bass aficionado however my wife prefers it to be a little more subdued. Ivan designed a system that was a perfect compromise to both of us, the sound/image quality is far beyond my expectations and I will certainly be enjoying it for years to come.AA certainly wasnt the cheapest quote I received however I have no issue paying a little more when the customer service aspect is miles above the rest. AA has earned a loyal customer for life and I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone in the market for home entertainment products.
