Indomitable spirit describes our experience with Pecks TaeKwonDo America. Julee Peck has kept her school working for her students, their families & our community during this challenging time. Our 12 yo recently earned his First Degree Probationary rank. Having physical exercise, learning new skills and community have been a life line for him. Mrs. Peck is very observant and responsive to the needs of everyone (students, parents & instructors). We highly recommend Pecks TKD America.

I really can’t say enough good things about Peck’s TKD. They did a great job before the pandemic, but throughout COVID they’ve been particularly amazing- safe in their practices, innovative in engaging students in whatever way families are most comfortable with.We attended a few classes at another place nearby (that shall remain nameless) but that felt like a commercial factory. Julee Peck’s school feels like a family and a community. The testing is fair and achievable but not a given. Both of my kids have failed a belt test, which has been as good for their development as any of their passes.Master Peck has also gone above and beyond to make sure the kids are prepared, reaching out to figure out extra sessions when my kids needed it recently.Check them out. You won’t regret it. :)

Pecks has been absolutely wonderful for my daughter. Over the last year my daughter’s confidence has improved - she’s proud of how hard she’s worked - and what she’s achieved so far. We’re looking forward to seeing more of her journey!Mrs. Peck is natural with the kids (as are all of the other instructors + student teachers). Classes are fun, require hard work and discipline. We were thrilled with Pecks prior to everything shutting down with Covid - and now we can’t say enough good things! Communication has been great. Online classes have been top notch, are offered at a variety of times, and encourage and engage students to get stronger. Private lessons via Zoom provide valuable real-time feedback, and encouragement. Outdoor class in the grass has been a nice addition, and provides a safe place for our kids to see/talk to other students they’ve missed. So happy we found Pecks!

Pecks TaeKwonDo is awesome! Mrs. Peck is an outstanding instructor and leader, and my kiddos love being a part of her classes. Pecks also has many other instructors that do an amazing job teaching and leading in classes. Also, she regularly reinforces key attributes that we teach at home like courtesy, perseverance, kindness and so on. If your kiddos or you as an adult want to learn TaeKwonDo then look no further. You wont regret it!

My son attended Pecks for several years, and obtained his senior black belt. Even though he no longer attends, he could not speak more highly of them. He had some attention issues at a young age, and I thought this would be the best sport for that. Pecks offers more than a sport. The instruction he received was top notch, and the family he became a part of was priceless. If you are looking for a school to fight at, this is not the place. This school builds leaders, confidence, comradery, respect and a whole lot more. The instruction my son received from Pecks has been life changing. I cannot put a price tag on what my child received from Pecks, and to them I say thanks.

Master Peck is phenomenal with the 4-6 yr old little dragons! She’s engaging, firm, energetic, and at the same time embraces wiggles, silliness, and focus (lack of!) of this age group. She lets them be kids without sacrificing the valuable lessons learned in tkd that we all want for our little ones!

My kids have been students at Pecks TaeKwonDo for 5 years now. They have learned much more than just forms and board breaking. Learning hard work, determination and perseverance to advance from one belt to the next has carried over to other parts of their lives. The highly skilled instructors are caring and take time to work with each student to help them reach their goals. My kids have also gained confidence in themselves which has empowered them to do things that they wouldnt have done before. Its a great place for kids and adults!

Pecks TKD is a superb establishment for both children and adults. Ms. Peck and her wonderful instructors have nurtured my children and myself into more confident and athletically adept people. We are able to focus and have pushed our sedentary lives into more productive ones. This is a wonderfully woman owned family business that cares about their students. My family has all persevered to becoming black belts and we could not have done this without Ms. Peck and her staff. I highly recommend this school.

I grew up studying martial arts and, as a father, have always been certain that i wanted the same for my children. to be fair, my standards are ridiculously high and so, when we moved to raleigh, i was initially frustrated by the lack of what i considered good martial art schools (that work with children under the age of 10). after reviewing and observing countless schools and classes, my wife and i chose pecks. i am VERY glad we did. my boys are both quite young and each possesses a vastly different personality and style of learning. the instructors at pecks have been amazing. they are kind, patient, and gentle in a way that demonstrates what i believe are the core values of real martial arts. and, because of that, they have managed to instill in my boys something more important than specific fighting techniques: a genuine love for the art. i watch every practice they attend through the large observation window in the lobby, and every day at the end of that practice i am proud of what i see -- both in the instructors and in my children. this is a good place, full of good people and i consider my family fortunate to have found them.

Pecks TaeKwonDo is amazing! We have been a part of this school for over a year now. It has been such a joy watching our daughter develop and grow, becoming more confident and mature with each belt she earns. All the instructors are super nice and very knowledgeable. They do a great job working with the students, no matter the class size. Mrs. Peck makes sure to know everyone by name and is a great communicator (monthly newsletters, emails, Facebook, etc). We also appreciate the incentive programs she offers to encourage practicing and living by the tenants of TaeKwonDo also at home and school We have had such a great experience that now my husband and I both takes classes as well. Thank you, Pecks TaeKwonDo, for providing such an awesome place for our family!

My oldest son started TKD the year Ms. Peck opened the school (1994), and my youngest started 2 1/2 years later. Both boys continued classes until they left for college, as 3rd degree black belts. There is not one bad thing I can say or think of about the school, instructors or Ms Peck. All of the children in the school were always encouraged to do their best, helped as much as was needed, and never given any negative criticism, even when the failed a testing. The competitions were a great way to reward their hard work, when there was a win: and learn to deal with defeat when we came home without a medal or trophy. All in all, a great experience.

My son loves going to classes at Pecks! The instructors are patient, yet keep control of the class. My son has learned how to focus, have self-control and to persevere to reach goal. This school is the only one that I could find that is upfront about costs, and theres no contract, unlike other schools. Sometimes we wish the classes could be a bit longer, but thats our only complaint!

Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. These are the tenets of Taekwondo and are definitely worth integrating into ones life. There is no better way to embrace these tenets than to surround yourself with people who model them. Ms. Peck is the archetype model. While the workouts are tough, I enjoy every single one of them because I know they are helping me stay fit and are molding my character for the better. Too bad my grandchildren dont live in the area, Id get them to sign up and join in the fun!

Pecks TaeKwonDo is welcoming and friendly, and Master Peck warm and kind. None of the ego that plagues so many schools. Her instructors are knowledgeable and helpful, and I feel I am growing there through personalized advice and instruction. The fellow students are engaging and happy to have new members, and the whole team feels like a family. I am thrilled to get to know this family. For anyone new to martial arts, this is a great, family friendly school that will nurture you as you explore Tae Kwon Do. I have been very happy with Pecks TakeKwonDo. My daughter is shy and we were not sure she would survive the sport; but the staff were very kind, supportive, and there was no pressure on her to compete. In this nonthreatening environment, she has continued to develop power and precision in TKD and the instruction has been excellent. She has been able to maintain her outside sports at school with their flexible schedule. I believe that the training has improved her aggressiveness in Basketball and given her more confidence. Julee is outstanding. She never forgets a face or name of a student or parent, and responds well to admin questions. The spirit of the studio is welcoming and nonintimidating, and things are done in order. There is no chaos. I highly recommend the excellent instruction and climate to all, of any age, and with any type of child.

My son started taking TaeKwonDo from Ms. Peck when he was 5 years old. At the time he began, he literally could not stand still, had such poor coordination that he was forever falling down, and sometimes would literally fall off the chair he was sitting in. Ms. Peck and her outstanding instructors were extraordinarily patient and good-humored with him, but also firm and always let him know they believed in him and his ability to perform at the highest level. Over the years, he has had many victories and some defeats, but the ability to persevere that has been instilled in him by Ms. Peck will be with him always, not only in TaeKwonDo, but throughout all areas of his life. At age almost-16, he is now a third-degree black belt, has worked his way up to become an instructor at the school -- and can also stand still (haha)! I cant imagine what my sons life would be like without the positive influence and mentoring he has received from Julee Peck. I simply cannot say enough good things about Pecks TaeKwonDo America. Julee Peck is an outstanding human being, full of integrity, compassion, and with tremendous ability to bring out the best in her students. Her school is a reflection of all the tenets of TaeKwonDo: courtesy, integrity, perseverence, self-control, indomitable spirit. You will do well there.

We love Pecks TKD! My two girls have really enjoyed learning from Ms. Peck and would love to go every single day! She challenges them to be their best and uses encouragement to support them on that journey. She really meets the kids where they are at, and encourages them to step up both with TKD and emotionally. Weve been there over 3 months now and expect to be there for many years. All the instructors weve encountered have been kind and encouraging. My little one was super nervous in front of everyone but Ms Peck, which made testing difficult. Ms Peck handled it with grace, not at all coddling her but gently guiding her with high expectations. When she did pass testing she was filled with pride and confidence. My oldest absolutely loves it too! We tell all our friends about it and highly recommend Pecks Tae Kwon Do!Weve tried a bunch of different TKD studios, most were too overstimulating or intense for my little one, Pecks was just right!

Master Julee Peck is an excellent teacher, trainer, role model and one of very few women who are owners of martial arts schools. She is also the current President/CEO of our national association, Tae Kwon Do America. Having been her student for almost 17 years now, I have admired her ability to turn the crankiest kids and most timid adults in to fine amateur athletes. At least a couple of her students have become professional Tae Kwon Do school owners. Pecks Tae Kwon do is a place to grow and fulfill potential you never knew you had in a warm, family atmosphere.

I wish we could say that we, as the parents of a 14 year old, 3rd degree black belt, were so very clever and so keenly insightful that we began our Taekwondo experience with the end in mind, but that is not at all how it happened. The truth is that it began as a way to keep the 5 year old little brother occupied between the start of big sisters dance class and the end of her class. Because the front door of the TKD studio was literally four doors down from the front door of the dance studio it seemed like a good enough idea. We had no clue at the time that it would end up being the very best thing we could ever have done for our son.As any parent knows, each child develops at a different rate and all children face their own special challenges. Some 5 years olds can read but cant hit a ball off the T to save themselves. Others can already ride a bicycle without training wheels but may not yet know their colors. You know what I mean. As a parent, the hope and the challenge is to coax improvement in the areas which are lacking so as to give them every advantage.Robs special challenge was physical which is now hard to believe when you see him do a 360 twist kick. By this I mean that he literally had no idea where his body was and had little control of it. Later we learned that the medical term for this is Sensory Integration Dysfunction. Contributing to this was another condition called Strabismus which is often referred to as lazy eye for which he eventually had corrective eye surgery. When he was a little guy and I got my final kiss good-night I routinely held up my arm in a blocking maneuver to protect myself from the head-butt which was sure to come because he was unable to accurately judge how much force was required to move his body a given distance. As he got older we used to tease him that we had charmed the floor in the kitchen (this was back when Harry Potter was all the rage) because it seemed as though every time he walked across it he would fall down. Often he would simply fall off his chair at the dinner table, sitting still was an impossibility.Peer pressure can work for you or against you. When he saw that his classmates could stand still in a straight line he learned that he could exercise self-control too. When all his classmates were advancing to a higher rank he wanted to advance too and he learned that hard work and perseverance are rewarded. The constant and repetitive physical and mental demands of learning Forms and Sparring were exactly what he needed. Taekwondo is a snap shot of all the honorable aspects of life included all within a 45 minute class. Sometimes you succeed and sometimes you fail, but your personal integrity is what matters most. Did you try your hardest and do your best? Only you will know. Do you have the spirit to try it again? We have experienced the thrill of breaking the last board on the last try and advancing to the next belt level and we have experienced the utter agony of no-change.My little guy is now almost as tall as I am and about to become a high school freshman. He is a good student and a hard worker, and he is a confident and courteous young man. Reality is that his opportunity to experience negative peer pressure is about to go up by a factor of a hundred, but I am extremely confident that he has the tools and the training to make the right choices thanks in no small part to Ms. Peck and all that she has taught on the way to developing a 3rd degree black belt and a junior instructor following the guidelines of Taekwondo America. His mother and I are very proud.
