I’m writing this 5 star review solely in regard to Dr. Wiley Smith. I switched from a different dermatologist in this office to him and I’m so thankful. Wiley is kind, empathetic, warm and welcoming. He listens to you and truly wants to help you. I recommend him for all of your dermatology needs.
After my procedure, I was told to have a great day. Nobody in sight to ask where I needed to pay so I left. When I received the call regarding my results, I was told, I couldn’t have any services until my balance was paid and next time I need to pay at time of visit. I said, I had the money then and have it now to pay but nobody was around. She said, but you were supposed to pay at time of visit. I advised her that this was poor communication on the practice. I said, I can pay now. She said, I’m not billing. If this practice cares so much about getting paid, then, maybe, they should have a better communication process in place to help guide their patients on where and whom takes payments. She didn’t care at all about the feedback and said have a nice day. I will never go back to this place. They should’ve looked at this to make their policies and communication better but instead they want to point blame at the patient. Not acceptable. Very poor service and rude all around.
Im so impressed with Dermatology Associates. I recently transferred my dermatology care to this practice and couldnt be happier with my decision. Everyone I interacted with during my visit was friendly, kind, and organized, from the check-in process to checking out. During my visit, Dr. Smith was so kind, patient, and thorough, never once making me feel rushed or uncomfortable. He provided medical treatment and guidance that exceeded all expectations, and had a solution for every concern I brought up. Im so happy I transferred my care to this practice.
Saw a dermatologist in Virginia after moving there and dealing with painful cystic acne. After a year and a half, we finally found a cocktail of medications that work. My skin cleared up. I moved back to Maine, ran out of these medications, and went to Dermatology Associates to see if they could help me, expecting some changes. The doctor comes in with no notes or computer except for a sticky note with the words acne and toe written on it.Dr. - You dont need all of these medications. Your skin looks great.Me - My skin looks great because of these medications.Dr. - These are pretty heavy duty medications for severe casesMe - My case was severe.Dr. - Well, lets try tapering you off all but one of them and seeing how it goes.It has gone poorly, but I havent been back because:Additionally, I went in for an infected spider bite.Dr. - *misdiagnoses me the first time*Me - No big deal. It happens.Dr. - Were going to prescribe you this medication.Me - I have had a terrible reaction to a very similar medication in the past.Dr. - I think it will be fine.Dr. - *orders incorrect blood work*Dr. - *prescribes twice recommended dose by mistake*Me - *begins showing symptoms of liver failure*Dr. - Hmmm :( Come back in and well figure something else out. But first make sure youre not experiencing liver failure.Me - *thankfully was not experiencing liver failure but definitely will not be returning*
Unfortunately I have to have an annual skin exam because my mother died of skin cancer when she was 26... .. first of all, the receptionist wase very rude and unprofessional. I type of insurance I have... Will not allow me to go anywhere but here. . Theres this place and thats it. I live over an hour away and Im not trying to get in for any other reason but stated above. I called today to make an appt because my last appt I had missed... Heres why.I had an appt in Feb. 2020 for my exam..which I had waited several months for. I was unable to make it so I called to reschedule which sucked because I had waited sooo long. The rescheduled appt. Was booked for April!! When the time came they called me telling me they had to cancel because of covid. Which was understandable and theyd call me back to reschedule once they knew when theyd be seeing patients again. Apparently they rescheduled me out for August...which I didnt know about.... Back in February I had asked then to give me phonecall reminders because they book out so far in advance its hard to remember when my appts are. They never called and I missed my appt. In August which I didnt know about. So I called to schedule because I hadnt heard back about rescheduling since the covid!. And the receptionist sounded sooo excited to tell me that they had kicked me out of the practice for 3 missed appts..and that they had sent me a letter stating this (which they surely did not otherwise I wouldnt have called....).. Now I know this is a technicality but I only missed one... The other I had rescheduled and the other they had rescheduled. But in honesty... This technicality could hurt me... The reason I called today to reschedule is because Ive alhad a lot of new moles pop up... Some are itchy and misshapen.I told the receptionist what Im saying here about not missing three appts and she says well sorry nothing I can do.Now I dont know what Im suppose to do! I just want my exam and to be done and safe!
My hairdresser had better cleaning protocols vs this medical practice! Yes, they practiced distance in waiting room but no clean down! No smell of disinfectant when coming into the exam room! And in fact a dirty paper not pulled on the exam table! Wrinkled and sweat on the bottom of the sheet! Not worried as i did not sit there..but then the doc asked me to..and i pulled ! omg!!!I saw a robot first doc Dr Bruce..no info no caring and just a script! lol..maybe that was great.as a five minute visit! LOL.but the script did not work!then went to a prestigious dentist office who advised against this practice as many of her practice had left..but suggested trying a better doc at the same group ..dr baginski!same thing! nothing!!!he recommended a therapy..and when asked by the person administering the therapy she asked my diagnosis..and i did not know, she thought i just did not remember! OF Course i would remember! LOL ..and asked her to look at Doc notes..when she admitted the info was not logged!omg!!! what a mess..and they wonder why i have no Confidence in the practice and the two docs ...Booked an apt with a boston doc!! great credentials! sad, we have inferior help in Maine!
Professional all the way. From check in to seeing doctor, nothing but smooth. Great service-they care
Went in for my regular annual Irish skin check up, but new to this location. Was charged a ridiculous amount for a check up and simple freezing of three spots. 5 times the cost I had paid annual at Andover Dermatology in Massachusetts. Take the time to ask what you will be charged or better yet find value somewhere else
I saw Dr Rinaldi for a questionable skin lesion. He was very professional, and did a quick painless biopsy.I had another recent visit for a skin check. The staff was pleasant and professional although there was a mix up prior to my arrival and my appointment had been canceled without notification. They were able to fit me in and I did end up waiting an additional 45 minutes. They were very apologetic.
Today was my 1st visit to this office. Excellent experience. Friendly team- kind & thorough Dr. (Smith) Grateful that my PCP referred me there. As another shout out- was pleased that I went for a specific skin irritation and the Dr. took the time to do a full body exam and addressed a couple of issues so I wouldnt need to make individual appointments. Thank you for the excellent treatment!
I was surprised when I saw the overall rating of the Portland office and took a look at some of the reviews. I dont doubt that there are people that havent had the experience they anticipated but I have been seeing Dr. Brewer for a few years now and I have no complaints at all. I have found everyone to be quite friendly and professional. Dr. Brewer has been thorough and very good explaining what he is seeing and what my options are to address the issue.
I have been unfortunate enough at age 65 and never had issues with my skin, to have a full blown issue with psoriasis on the bottom of my feet and palms of my hands. I have found Dr Ronaldi and his staff, Jessica for instance most helpful and kind. I have found this to be very painful and I cannot get around very difficult from bottom of feet. Dr Rinaldi has been very attentive and concerned with my discomfort I would highly recommend these folks for caring especially in today’s time
Professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and personable - Dr. Rinaldi and his nurse/assistant were nothing short of amazing. I feel confident that Im in good hands and would highly recommend this dermatology practice.
I saw Dr Rinaldi today. It only took two weeks to get an appointment. He was very personable. professional, and thorough. His assistant was also excellent. The whole staff was very friendly and very helpful. I arrived early for my appointment, and I was seen early. I was actually checked out before the scheduled time of my appointment.
Unfortunately another health provider who has forgotten how to care about their patients. Received a referral over six months ago, was told that we would receive a call to schedule (15 year old boy), called today to find out he was denied because he has Maine Care as health insurance. Apparently they are supposed to take so many cases a month and a 15 year old with more than one comorbidity is just not a high priority.I wouldnt be so mad if I had received a call stating WHY he was denied and what the persons qualifications were. I was told by the receptionist that it was a Nurse not a Doctor who denied him however they would not tell me who or why leading me to believe the only reason is because of his insurance.
This place is the best, as is evident by the fact it can take 3-6 months to be seen. First come, first served is not bad service, it is the reality of supply and demand. I can only imagine how many times a day they hear, but this is an emergency. The office staff is wonderful, when you accept they can only offer you the next available appointment, and the medical staff is equally fantastic. I loved all of that sun on my skin as a kid, but as an adult, not so much. Thanks to DA for taking such good care of me now!
Look elsewhere for a patient-friendly practice. The professional medical personnel and administrative staff are quite cordial but is challenging to talk with the medical professional by telephone. My doctors nurse called me to explain that I had two surgical options for my cancer treatment which she briefly outlined, but she was not authorized to discuss expected outcomes or recovery time of each.Ive asked the administrative staff to ask my doctor to call me. No reply yet. Also, scheduling surgery is not possible until a staff members vacation.Im now searching for another dermatology practice.
This may be the biggest and brightest practice in the area, but if you cant get in the door, then its basically useless. I called with a debilitating condition, and theyre booking out 6 months! The phone staff arent particularly helpful. Fortunately, my general practitioners office referred me to another dermatologist.
I went here for the first time, and even though I had to wait 3 months for my initial appointment, the 2 Drs I dealt with were amazing, not only highly knowledgeable, but extremely personable as well. 5 minor surgeries and Im cancer free! Highly recommend them. The nurses and reception I saw were very friendly and caring.
Medical care in Maine is stressed - which may explain many of the negative reviews. My experience is quite favorable, when I was diagnosed in the fall of 2018 with a form of skin cancer. The first dermatologist I tried to see bumbled everything about my medical needs including screening my condition, patient history, and need for urgency. Then I found Dermatology Associates. They are extrmemely professional from the front desk to their physicians. The receptionist was first rate and made many inquiries on the phone to be sure my first visit would go well. I got an appointment within 2 weeks ( a small miracle in Maine) The first appointment was fast and efficient with Dr. Baird providing all of the medical detials in a way that I could understand. Also giving me ample advice and encouragement on how to treat my condition. The cancer was removed 2 weeks later. They could not have been more professional and I will use them for follow up as long as I live in Maine.
I was a patient here for 18 years. The providers were always very rushed and spent more time looking at their laptop computers than looking at me. Frequently they would give me home-care instructions in the exam room, and when I got home I would have a follow-up question and the person on the phone would say no, your doctor (or nurse) never said that, you are mistaken. There was always a lot of that -- one hand not knowing what the other hand was doing. And none of the providers ever knocked on the door before entering the exam room which is very unprofessional.Ultimately I stopped going here because my last visit was a nightmare. The exam room was filthy. The sink had dried blood and other material in it. The exam gown they made me put on smelled like body odor. The nurse practitioner did a minor procedure on me that she said would not hurt and told me I did not need lidocaine, but it did hurt very badly and I was in a great deal of pain for the next 24 hours. The third day after the procedure, I was infested with lice. I had to have gotten them at Dermatology Associates because I hadnt been anywhere else during that time. Not surprising, considering how dirty the exam room was and that the exam gown probably hadnt been washed! I will never ever go back.
I was lucky enough to get in fairly quickly due to my health situation, and have found that every appointment with my doctor has been highly professional and thorough. When something was inconclusive, Dr. Brewer was quick to assess the situation and find another way to get the information needed to proceed with a proper diagnosis and for future management of the condition. All of the staff (both at this location and the one in Brunswick) are polite—friendly, even—and professional. My one and only complaint is with their communication issues. Calls often end in confusion, and more often than not information is lost somewhere between myself and the doctor or the doctor to me. I’ve found that their online portal does help with that, and you can contact your doctor directly via the message system there. Overall, I have rarely experienced such professional and considerate care as I have been treated with here, and I would highly recommend this office to those who need it.
Dr. McCrory is the kindest doctor I have ever been to. She is extremely thorough and her nursing staff are compassionate. Dr McCrory has called me personally with how to move forward with the biopsy. I have been to many Doctors in NY and Florida and found Dr McCrory to be an excellent dermatologist. My husband and I thank her for her quick response to conditions we have had.
Reception has been terribly rude both times I have been there. My husband and I have been there multiple times. The doctors are good if you can get past the exceptionally inhumane way the reception treat people if your a few minutes late. We are people and all are busy and have obstacles. We all do are best to get there and not screw up,we are humans not robots!!! Done sorry docs. I encourage anyone who has a bad experience to relay this to their primary care Drs. so they will not refer bad experiences to their patients.
My daughters doctor is nothing short of amazing
Good Doctor. Too bad the receptionists are not hospitable. I encourage anyone who has a bad experience to relay this to their primary care provider. I will never go back.
You have to book a year in advance and then they change my appointment to a day when I have to work. Then I feel rushed.
Best patient experience Ive ever received in Maine!
Update: Was contacted by this office today, the following day, after writing this review. The woman whom I spoken with immediately went on a triade as to the same reasons why they are booking out until Feb and tried to assure me my sons PCP was doing the same. And that is absurd and definitely not the case. This woman came off immediately defensive and tried to turn the conversation around in her favor by trying to imply she was somehow going to help me expedite the process but stated I was unwilling to work with her to which yes I stated several times I was indeed no longer interested for my son to become a patient as not only did they drop the communication ball but the wait time for appointments was unnecessarily long.I was able to get an appointment with a practice in Lewiston for next month. My sons PCP *tried* referring us due to a chronic potentially life threatening problem that needs further investigation. After 2 weeks of hearing nothing I call and was explained why I haven’t heard-They are booking out until February (a shortage of dermatologists is the apparent culprit) and if it’s ememergent the referring PCP needs to speak directly to an oncall doctor which I’m sure wasn’t disclosed as you literally talk to no one when doing the referring. My options I am told are have the PCP call the on call or go to a different dermatologist. I’m in favor of going to a different dermatologist given the fact follow up appointments will surely be booked out longer than necessary given the wait time for an initial appointment and if something is relatively urgent I’m also assuming you could forget being seen in a timely manner.Would have been nice to receive a call stating this instead of wasting over 2 weeks and hearing nothing when I could have gotten the ball rolling in a different direction with different providers.
I had a very pleasant experience with Dr. Alison McCrory and thoroughly enjoyed my appointment.
I left this place feeling humiliated and completely shamed.I have LFS, a predisposition to many cancers and I was getting a skin check, following the standard guidelines as they were given to me by my oncologist at Dana Farber. The dermatologist I saw treated me as though I was just being hysterical by going to him, saying that I there is no evidence to suggest that genes have anything to do with skin cancer. When I told him I had a preventative mastectomy he rolled his eyes and said “having a mutation doesn’t mean you are going to get cancer”— as if he could have any clue what it’s like to live in fear of getting breast cancer or is in any place to pass judgment on the choices I make with my body. The doctor literally sneered at my body, presumably because I am fat. I have a significant scar from one of the drains on my chest, which made a face when he pointed at and “what is that?”.What kind of dermatologist doesn’t know what scar tissue looks like? The nurse that was there to observe was clearly also disgusted by my body and seemed particularly disgusted by my chest, where my breasts have been amputated.I left feeling disgusting and humiliated. I guess if you are a thinner person and don’t have any perceptible disability or anything else “wrong” with your body it might be an okay place to go, but the way I was treated was horrendous.
Horrible! My daughter has a terrible skin condition that her normal PCP cannot assist with healing and when she referred us to them, they made us jump through all these hoops to get care until at the very end when they said they would be unable to see her. Would NEVER recommend them.
Dr. Rinaldi is Amazing. Staff is Amazing. Tyvm. :)
Ive been a patient of DA for over 12 years. Overall, Id say my experience has been a 7 out of 10. I have walked out of appointments due to the fact that Ive had a 3pm appointment and at 330, I still have not been called on. I know there is a sign that says to check in if you name hasnt been called in 15 minutes, but to be honest, I pay my fair share of medical costs to this office and feel it is now their responsibility to act professional and let me know up front if things are running late. The doctors that Ive been see by have done a great job, the PA I saw didnt. My experience with this is as follows: I made a routine appointment, got checked out by a PA and she saw a place on my back that she thought needed to be removed, so she did her best to remove it. To make a long story short, I was just back in the office to have the scar and other skin issues removed, that she was unable to do. She also left me with a wicked scar on my back that has been rectified by a Dr.Here is my advice, if you are paying for a Dr, to see you, dont let a PA do it.
I was seen by the doctor for the briefest possible period of time; Dr. Michael Frank breezed in and left within a couple of minutes. I felt very rushed and it appeared he hadnt even looked at my medical records.
This place is the worst! I called because I have a rash and need to be seen right away. She said the first appointment for a new patient would be 3 months out!!!Can you imagine?!!
If 0 stars was an option theyd get it. Place is a joke. Wait 6 months for an appointment for them to tell you nothing.
This the worst place to be send for referral, I m waiting for 3 month, 2 referrals, discriminatory practices been used who can be seen by a doctor. I called I spoke to Dermatology Associates office 3 times.
BAD RECEPTIONISTS Receptionists are rude, every single one of them, they arent apologetic which is a part of customer service. I will NEVER go back!!!!
