I buy Stihl. Jeff is the best dealer for all your rental equipment needs. Steve is a great counter man and knows his products. I have purchased 2 chain saws, a log cant and several chains. Top notch tools.I have been a rental customer for 30 years. Never had an issue with tools working. Convenient and open 7 days. Shop and rent Gil-Con.
Rented a core aerator for my lawn. All the guys were nice and helped me load and unload it there. Also showed me how to operate it. Aerator worked good. Easy process.
Delivered my salt and helped unload! I was very grateful!! Jeff is easy to deal with and very kind.
I know there are mixed review of this place but personally I have had nothing but great experiences! As a woman at a tool company these guys treated me with respect and explained everything I needed to know about my new snow blower purchase. I’ve also used Gil-con before for rental equipment and have found the tools to be a good value and an easy rental process. I would recommend this place to others!
Jeff is always freindly when I come in. Yesterday he realized I needed chains sharpened soo er than later and offered to do them himself. I wont go anywhere else.
Sent a guy out to rent a Chipper first thing when they opened because they said they had one available. Held him there for about 2 hours while they repaired and replaced parts on it before he could even take it. He then gets it out to the job only to have it malfunction, not work properly and be a down right hazard. When I called to tell them this they still wanted to charge the days rental unless he immediately brought it back!! I said, to clarify- you want him to waste even MORE of his job time and drive it back, mid-day?? He goes, ...unless you want charged the full day. Absolute garbage, unprofessional business practice, & junk equipment in my opinion.
Wouldn’t let me get a single word in when I was trying to explain what was wrong with my equipment. Also, picked it from from being fixed, and 2 weeks later I had the same issue. Gave me attitude over the phone when trying to explain it again.
Love the business, guys are straight forward and know about their equipment. Great local shop, return customer on multiple occasions, definitely was a big help to me in starting the foundation when I started a business . great guys, will return
Desperately searching for a snow blower and they had the exact one I was looking for, only one left, and cheaper than the big box stores. The owner made sure it fired right up, filled it with gas and oil, gave me a quick run down, and even loaded it in my truck for me. Great price, great customer service, will definitely be back.
If they dont have it you dont need it. Best tool rental in the South Hills. Stihl brand per tools for sale also.
I did not realize when they closed and showed up one minute before closing. I offered to come back another day and the gentleman said “no worries how can I help you?” I told him my 30 year old Sthil chain saw finally died and I needed a new one. He helped me find the right chain saw that I needed. He put it all together and gave me a full rundown of the saw. Super happy with the service and the hospitality! I will be going here from now on for all my needs.
Terrible customer service. If you don’t mind being disrespected, or renting garbage equipment this is the place for you. As for the reviewers stating this place is great... I’m wondering what Gil-con did you visit?
Great service knowledgeable people Hootmon 😄!
I dropped my craftsman lawnmower off on Tuesday and it was fixed by Saturday!Checkout was speedy and when I asked if I could order a grass bag and poke from them, Jeff assisted!
Called to see what they had in stock and cost. I was quite detailed in giving my request. Very rude and condescending to talk to. Just a simple here is what we have and here is the cost would have sufficed.
The inconsistent reviews are warranted. Depends on who you deal with. On one hand the manager is friendly, knowledgeable and takes his time explaining things. I’ve both rented equipment and gotten things fixed here. On the other hand, they like to create issues on your equipment that weren’t there when you dropped it off.I borrowed a friend’s power washer last summer, which I couldn’t start. I took it in to have them service it, new plugs, starter, etc. which they did, then said it still didn’t start and it needed $350 worth of repair / new motor for it to work again, and it would be better to just buy a new one. My friend declined, paid the $80 for the service performed and took it home. It started right up and has been working well since. She told me she put in a new motor the year before. They have a business of selling refurbished equipment and so they try to con you out of your equipment so they can sell it refurbished and make a profit. Not much business in repairs I guess.Last year I took my 30-yo snow blower in for maintenance, new tires, plugs, oil change, lube, etc. I had no occasion to use it last year but I just hauled it out after this big snow storm and gasoline is pouring out of it. They did something and broke it. NEVER had an issue with gas leaking in 30 years until they got a hold of it.At the very least I can say they don’t double check their work. The owner is rude as hell, and whomever answers the phone needs a lesson in customer-centric communications, and manners. I’m taking my business elsewhere.
Straight to the point. In and out.
This place is great! Everytime I need something they always have it. great prices too!
For some reason the guy had an attitude with me when I asked him if I can order a gas tank for a lawn mower... He said I needed numbers... the model type and the code numbers I asked him where would the model type numbers and the code numbers be .he said on the engine and some woman that worked there standing behind me laughed after he said on the engine I didnt know I needed the numbers and she made it out like I was stupid ..well excuse me ...I did not appreciate the attitudes they gave me... If I cant get the gas tank Id rather buy a new lawn mower... Before I dealt with these people again
Good selection of equipment for sale and rent. Prices are on the higher side and service doesnt exactly come with a smile.
Great customer service. Helpful staff. Highly recommend
Rudest employees, worst service, over priced. Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere else for whatever it might be that you need.
Went in today for a new leaf blower and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. I’m very pleased with my purchase thank you
Jeff is pretty cool, most days, haha. But my main lawncare repair in s hills
Ignore all of these one star reviews, they are just overly sensitive people. Jeff and his team are great people and will do anything to help you out. I have bought thousands of dollars of equipment from these people and will continue to do just that.
Love these guys
Rude as hell. Get some people skills...jeez.
The environment in the store was very kind and welcoming. The customer service representative could have charged me more for services that were not required, however the service representative was honest, knowledgeable, and efficient in repairing my chain saw; as a result of his honesty and job knowledge he saved me a lot of time and money. My whole customer service experience took no longer than 10 minutes and cost under $50.I would definitely return to Gil-Con for future services.
So I called the day before and spoke with a woman. I asked if they repaired other brands of weed trimmers and let her know mine has a cracked fuel line. She asked the make a model of trimmer I had and said sure bring it in. The next day I decided to bring it in. Upon walking in the door I noticed a Port authority maintenance truck with lawn care equipment on it. And two Port authority maintenance guys inside. I myself was in uniform so I spoke to the two union brothers of mine and that is when the rude guy working the front desk interrupted and asked what i had in my hand. I showed him my trimmer and explained that I had talked to woman the day before and she said that they could repair it. And he rudely told me we dont work on those and to buy one off of them. So I told him I talked to a woman the day before and asked if they would work on mine and she said yes. And in a rude tone he told me oh she doesnt know what shes talking about. Disgusted and embarrassed by the way he talked to me I just walked out the store. The guy working the front is entirely too rude to potential customers. I would never go back to this place again. I wonder how much it would hurt if they lost the business of my employer. This is 2019 I wont use the racist word but lets just say the guy does not know anything about customer service. Spend your money elsewhere they dont deserve a single star.
The staff is extremely rude and doesnt properly communicateWill not be going back.
Some of these guys are actually really nice, and then there are those who are more rough around the edges. They really are not into negotiating, deals, or that little extra customer service that can go a long way. Do they have tools? Yes. Have I purchased and rented tools from them - yes. Do those tools work -yes. Will I continue to go there - of course. Do they have a friendly, welcoming customer service model? You will have to be the judge, but I dont mind.
Weve purchased numerous items here and have had numerous chainsaws repaired. Have never had a problem. Everyone has been courteous, if not friendly. They even told us when we bought our Kombi system from them not to buy the Kombi trimmer attachment and just buy a replacement trimmer head (which was at least half the price). I have never rented equipment from them, so I cant speak to that end of the business.
Take your business elsewhere. I ordered an echo chainsaw from these guys last fall. I was told the model I wanted didnt come with an 18 bar (even though it said it did online) and that if I went up a model it would come with an 18. More money of course. So I spent the extra money. When I went to pick it up.... 16 bar. I would have told them to keep it but I had a tree leaning on my power line at camp. They offered no solution. I was raised to fix a mistake if I made one.
Gil Con Tool and repair has been around forever and I believe they are a good and reputable place to do business with. Gil Con has all sorts of tools and supplies for anything and everything related to exterior landscape maintenance and construction. They sell reputable commercial grade brands such as Stihl and carry tools and equipment you wont find at Home Depot or Lowes. They also do repairs on site for small engine power tools, lawnmowers, snow blowers, etc.A great local company that I would recommend doing business with. Thank you Gil Con!
Knowledgeable and friendly. Had the tools I needed at a price I was willing to pay. Convenient location for me, and even helped me load and unload.
Pro rental and repair
All the Stihl tools you need. They got everything.
Rented a stump grinder here today. Steve who helped me was very friendly and knowledgeable on the equipment. Gilcon had by far the best pricing on rentals compaird to the other places I called in the area. Im a satisfied customer, I would definitely rent equipment here again.
Buy al my Stihl equipment from them.Great Customer Service !
What can I say about these guys. They are the best! I never did any maintenance on my snow blower and that was my bad! Took it to them one day and they called me back the next day that it was fixed already. I really needed it today with all the snow coming down and it worked like a charm. Besides writing this review, I called them to personally thank them again for saving my neck. Wish everyone treated their customers like they do.
Jeff and Steve has always been there to help me. I recommend them to anyone.
Owner has a bad attitude was spoken too harshly not a very pleasant experience
They have always provided quality customer service and consistent equipment for the last five years that I have used their products.
I found that they work with limited brands, so call first. They do very good work on equipment. They sell Stihl yard equipment.
Never again! This repeat customer is gone forever. Rented a plate compactor at 4:10 PM Thursday and returned it at 7:50 AM Saturday. I was expecting to pay 1.5 days but was charged for 2 full days. When I questioned this, I was told that the half day rate required a return during business hours to qualify! I guess I had to return it by 4:30 PM Friday to enjoy the half day rate! The up charge from half day to full day was not much, but the business practice speaks volumes to me, never again will I return. The compactor worked fine, but I had to spend 30 minutes prying off 3/8 of asphalt from prior users since I was using it to tamp Holland Pavers; so do not assume that the equipment you rent will be clean or ready to go for your use.
Rented a cement mixer from Gil-Con and it did the job but the people at were Very Rude. They lack any customer service skills whatsoever. When I asked a question I got smart ass answers. I had to drop it off early the next morning and when I called to make sure everything was in order the guy hung up on me. The price was fair but the people were rude. This was the first and probably last time I will rent anything from them. Guess it’s back to Home Depot.
Great place to rent tools. Also has cheap rock salt.
They charge triple than other places Ive been to. I have no reason to be biased. Heres the facts: this is a rip-off joint run by rude people.
Walked in yesterday because I needed a Pneumatic nailer to put up paneling. I had told them I had never used a Pneumatic nailer before. I told him exactly what I was using it for. They came out with a nailer and a compressor. I saw a black knob on a compressor and never have using one I asked what is that knob for. I was told not to worry about it that it was set to where it needed to be. Brought it home and hung up some paneling every nail shot through the paneling straight into the plaster and into the stud. After some research I figured out that it was a regulator knob so I turned it down various X to try to find the right PSI not to shoot through the paneling. The gun they rented me was a Stanley Bostitch. It did not have a selector on the gun itself for nail depth. By the time I was ready to use the gun the store was closed. When I called back this morning to explain my issue the owner listen to my story and just sat there and gave me o and didnt really talk much and when he did talk it was very condescending now at the time I didnt know I was speaking to the owner so I decided to take the tools back. I get to the store today and I tell the employee there that I would like to have some kind of refund. I feel that part of it was my ignorance about the product but I also feel that I was very open with them and telling them that I had no knowledge of this product. The owner would not come and talk to me just kept avoiding me. finally the employee at the register told me he spoke with the owner and that there is nothing they can do. Once again I was not expecting a full refund but you couldnt have given me 10% off 20% off some kind of store credit. I just bought a home and Im going to need tons of tools either to rent or to buy. Why would you not try to do something for a customer especially when its just a tool rental where its been paid over time and time again. I brought back the nails that I purchased from them minus one row of my trial and error. You think they would at least refunded me the nail money. This has been a horrible experience. I will be staying away from this place in the future and finding another place to either rent tools from or service my snowblower, Edge Trimmer, lawn mower, and any other Future tools that I will be purchasing for the maintenance of my new home.Update. Owner Jeff called me to make this right. They are offering me in-store credit. I have updated my review of the business.
I Took my Toro Riding Mower in for Repair Recently, (wouldnt start) I thought it would take a week to fix, but Jeff the Owner had his crew work on it the same day, Got it back in 2 hours, they found a mouse nest in the engine compartment, the mice chewed on some wires . I bought several Toros from Gil-Con over the years, they are very Reliable, also there service Dept. is top notch.
Rented a machine and returned 30 minutes later without using - would not refund. Treated very poorly as well in the shop, terrible service.
I have been to this location two times now and after my last visit I will not return. My first visit was good. A man, who appeared to be the owner, was helpful and got me the part I needed for my lawn mower. My second visit I called 15 mins before arriving about a lawn mower belt. I was told they had the belt and I stated i would be up in a little while to pick it up. When I arrived there was a man about five feet from me, sitting down at a table, and doing some sort of paper work. He did not ask if he could help me or get up to get anyone to assist me. I assumed he just worked in some other area of the store and was not the customer service individual. There were no other customers in the store at this time as well. After waiting for probably about five mins with no one comming out to assist me the phone rang. Out of the back came who appears to be the owner (I make this assumption because of pictures at the register of him and his family). He asks me if he can help me. I tell him I called earlier about a part and the owner turns to the man sitting in the chair and ask him. The man finally gets up, goes in the back, gets the part, and RINGS ME UP. So basically this lazy a$$ should of been the one to help me from the beginning. I am a war veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and I wont tolerate this type of incompetence, laziness, and lack of care for the customer. I will not give this place another chance when there is a mower place right down the road called steel city mower and plow where I have also given my business and had zero issues with.
I broke a bolt on the deck of my mower and decided to take it to gilcon with the hope that a lawn mower repair place will have the tools to easily tap it out of the threading. Well after a week I finally got a call saying it would cost me $400 to fix it because they could not get the bolt out and would have to replace the whole frame of the mower. Having common sense I know that a broken bolt can be taken in in many ways so I asked my car mechanic for some help and he removed it on less than an hour for free. So I had to pay $25 to gilcon to look at my mower which cost more than it did to fix it. Moral of the story is to stay away from gilcon they just want your money. Also when I first brought my mower in I was filling out paperwork and another customer came in and asked how long it would take for his mower to get fixed and they told him they could do it in a day assuming they knew him because of the conversation. Although it took a week for a mechanic to just look at mine.
Good family-owned business they give good deals
I THOROUGHLY DISAPPROVE OF GOING TO THESE GUYS REAL CROOKS Wanted to sell me a carburetor for a some tiller and all I wanted was rebuild kit . I looked on line the carb gilcon was trying to sell me I can buy for 15 dollars on eBay brand new they wanted 60 what a ripoff I would suggest steal city mower and plow😉
Im in here often to get parts for my Toro and Stihl equipment and 98% of the time they have what I need. If I have a problem with my equipment they are very knowledgeable on trouble shooting equipment. I give these guys AAA++++ for service and parts availability. The owner Jeff is very fair with me when I need something.
We took our mower in and were sent on our way with a working mower 5 minutes later. Will definitely go back.
I cant believe there still in business. They sold me a used wrench and crooked nails. Dont get me started on the hammer. These jerks dont even know what they are doing. STAY AWAY FROM GILCON FOOL COMPANY!!!
They are good by me!
They deal in quality products and service
Always goes above and beyond for everyone ty Jeff
Jeff is awsome! Treats us well!
Overcharged and they broke my mower without fixing it. Never go to this business
Jeff is a real ignorant human . I spent thousands of dollars there sadly, and asked him a simple question about fixing a chainsaw, and he got an attitude, started using profanity, in front of a store full of customers . Has a real people problem . Avoid at all costs !
They got everything you need
Good people
Love this place
Over priced .
I rent from Gil-Con Tool all of the time. The owner treats me like family even when I break their equipment. I wouldnt go anywhere else!
Nice place
Great Service
Rude and unhelpful employees.
Honesty
