Im sorry but I can not recommend Sewing by Joan for bridal or formal wear.I took my dress to Joan because she was highly recommended for her skill, affordability and turn around time. I dropped off my mother of the groom dress in April for my sons wedding June13. The bride also dropped her dress off at that time. After months of waiting, we reached out to Joan to see the status of our dresses. She responded to me the she would be starting my dress on Monday, just days before the wedding. The bride reached out several times saying she would gladly pick her dress up, if Joan wasnt able to get it finished in time. Joan insisted it would be done. Eventually, Joans responses became rude and unkind. The brides dress was a disaster. With just 3 days before the wedding, the bride was forced to go elsewhere to get a new dress and pray that she could find someone to hem it.The stress the bride experienced was unnecessary and uncalled for. She was a beautiful bride in her new dress, untouched by Joan.My dress could have been a disaster if I wasnt able to find someone to repair the damage Joan did.It needed a simple hem, and from the hem she was going to make wider straps so I could wear a regular bra. I specifically said not to use the sequin material from the hem. But she used the sequin material anyway. The sewing of the straps was the most shoddy workmanship I have ever seen. In fact, the straps would likely not have stayed secure through the night. Fortunately, I found material that matched my dress and had new straps made that were much better and more secure..When we dropped the dresses off, she never mentioned that she goes by the event date, or that she was overworked and understaffed. If I read the first 2 Google reviews I would have gone elsewhere. If I knew my dress would hang in her shop or if I had known she would only start to work on it days before our wedding, I would have gone elsewhere.Im very sorry that her dad was in declining health, but if that impacted her work, she should have let us know.I dont want anyone to experience the stress and upset that we did.

Everything was messed up. She did a bridesmaids dress for me. They seem came out within an hour of putting on and The bottom of the dress frayed and I was tripping all night at the wedding I was in. The jeans she hemmed didn’t match the other colors at all. There are big gaps between each stitch. She did the brides dress for the wedding I was in. The wedding dress straps fell down the whole night and even when she was walking down the aisle. I felt terrible for my friend. Joan seems friendly but it’s like a slap in the face when she gives you your stuff back all messed up. Just to make a quick buck. Which wasn’t cheap. $165 for a dress to be altered a few pair of jeans hemmed. I don’t usually post but I don’t want anyone going through this.

I dropped off a project on April 5th. After monthly check ins on the status of the order, the project was returned to me unfinished on July 21st with her leaving my fabric and supplies in a bin on the sidewalk in front of her store with her telling me, I am not responsible if it is removed.I was given no indication that there would be a four month delay and every check in was met with I will get to it soon and then finally a I will not be doing it. Very frustrating experience.

Joan,, is an awesome lady,, and I repeat she is a lady, respect, integrity,, quality work, she custom-made my minis,, to set off my backyard,, the way it should be,, awesome she is a great,, price is great,, staff is awesome,, if you want quality work you will hire her,, sometime she get your fast but as I am she’s overwhelmed at work but her work is impeccable,, do not hesitate to use her,, parking is good great,, location,, is great,,,I recommend her highly deafly a five star to me and it should be to everyone else this lady is awesome see my pictures .

Joan is a wiz at her trade. Her skills are phenomenal and she always has a solution to anything I bring her. My garments are very important to me and I wont trust anyone else.

Joan is WONDERFUL! She has been there for me and my family, she is very professional and anything we have taken to her is done right and is high quality. A family member took a dridesmaid dress to someone else and they butchered it so I took it to Joan and of course she fixed it perfectly! She is truly AWESOME at her craft! I trust no one else!

Joan is a delight...Mother of the Groom dressed hemmed to perfection and she even did a complimentary tuck on tthe shoulder and made a mask to match my dress at no cost.... you would be hard pressed to find a seamstress that can top Joans abilities, sweet nature and generosity! 👍👍

I was excited to support Joan and have my wedding dress altered by her for my wedding this past September. I heard great things about her work from family friends. Joan is friendly and seemed very knowledgeable in my fitting. However, when I went to pick up my dress three days before my wedding, I found that:- she hemmed the dress far too short- the hem wasnt even straight- she sloppily sewed the straps back on after the back panel was altered- the cups she added didnt fit my chest- the cups were sewn in crookedWhen I tried my dress on at home, I cried. First, my mom and I cut out the hem in the lace overlay. Luckily my old work has a costume shop. Their seamstress saved the day by reworking the terrible cup situation. When she saw the work, she was in total shock by how unprofessional the sewing was.I dont want to say that Joan doesnt have any skill. It seems like she might just be very overworked and is biting off more than she can chew. Everything seems rushed and last minute. Dont take any of your dresses to her. Something needs to change in this places time management.

I would NOT suggest ever taking a mans suit here. Joan stated she has 35 yrs experience and made a very rookie mistake on the sleeve cuff of my husbands suit. Its completely backwards, puckered at the top and the buttons were all crooked. Also the hem on the pants was puckered. She redid all of the work and it still looks terrible. Her response was she does not have industrial machines and it just needed steaming. I took one of my husband other suits to show her the difference and she said she thought it looked fine. The darker suit is her work...you be the judge.

Great experience! I thought I would be paying at least $50 to fix a zipper on my new winter coat, and it was fixed in 5 minutes (or less!) for only $5. Highly recommend! I will be back.

This was the best experience ever! I literally was in a wedding, about to leave for ceremony and my bridesmaid dress’ zipper ripped all the way down. Literally trapped in the dress and ripped down past my butt. We called here and she said come now and in less than 30 minutes I was back in my dress, zipper fixed and out the door. Will only use Joan from now on.

Joan is excellent at her craft. She is always busy with orders takes and does rush jobs for people who wait to the last minute. And wanted items done YESTERDAY !! She is a very kind and pleasant business woman! I have been taking things to Joan for 18 years. You will NEVER EVER find anyone who takes her work seriously

Joan was wonderful!!she really puts a lot of work and effort in her work! She is very pet friendly and welcomes dogs to play with her dog Charlie. Before we found Joan we went to a different seamstress that ruined my moms dress, she worked so hard and got it done last minute. We were so impressed and happy with the results! Thank you Joan!

If I could rate 0 stars, I would. I brought my daughters dress to have the shoulder straps shortened a bit. The dress came back with the seams in 2 different places, visible UNEVEN stitches showing. And what went in with a flat seam, came back with a huge bulky seam. It does not lay flat. The worst part was Joans horrible condescending response. A seam has stitches, that what makes it a seam. I have never seen a seam that shows such uneven stitching. I dont know what you are so upset about. The fact that my daughters dress is looks terrible. I could have done a better job. I cannot get the pics to post. I have photo proof to show how bad the dress looks.

The lady that owns sewing by Joan is of course named Joan. But she is a really nice lady that goes above and beyond completely goes out of her way to appease her customers. We needed items altered and she was able to accommodate us on short notice and come in on a holiday so we could pick the stuff up. If you need any sewing done Joan is the lady

Joan was amazing to work with for my wedding dress. She did a perfect job and her prices were very reasonable. She is also very nice to work with. I would definitely recommend her!

Do not go here..went there with a bridesmaid dress for tailoring.. had to beg for it to be done..and when I was getting ready for wedding..saw the horrible job she did..she had sewn in the cup into the hem..and the hem was so poorly done..O dont sow but could have done this horrible job myself also she put a small snap for a bustle and it came off right after service..she had 3 weeks to get it done and was doing the job the day I went to pick up..she told me 115 to fix and charged me 240 when I picked up..also when there the 2 times no one came in and got finished items..6 people in and out and nothing done on time..had an older woman come in and Joan said I never gave her that price..so I didnt call her what would be the point..she would say she didnt give me that price..just figured I would let folks know on reviews..if u dont care about money or customer service go there..if you do find anyone else but Joan!!! Please if u r in a wedding or are a bride do not trust her to do u or ur girls dresses..for ur peace if mind find someone else and read the review from the bride that was crying on her wedding day..because Joan screwed up her dress!!

One star is very generous considering my experience here. I dropped my wedding dress off end of June (per her request) for my wedding on September 20th. September 17th I go in for my first fitting where all she had finished was my hem (which wasn’t even straight) and she had tried to take in the side under my arm and between my breast, it was bunched up and looked terrible. I told her how worried I was because my wedding was in 3 days. She told me to relax and it would be finished for my wedding. Although she still hadn’t started my bustle and now had to rework the bodice. The next morning I went down for another fitting and she tried to fix the bodice however it caused another problem with the boning of the side now sticking out. She told me when she steamed it that it would flatten out and no problem. Which it did not. She was also to change an eye hook and in the back and tack my two straps together which she didn’t do either. My mom picked up my dress Wednesday evening for my Friday wedding. She took it home and had to fix my hem because it was cut jagged and not straight and very noticeable. She also had to tack the straps and fix the hook on the back. The bodice never did lie flat, it poked out and looked terrible. When I put my dress of the day of I cried and they were not happy tears. And then all threw my reception my bustle kept coming undone. I will never recommend a single person to Sewing by Joan.

If I could rate zero stars I would. I took my bridesmaids dress to Joan in hopes to receive it back as beautiful as I took it in. However, that was not the case. When I received my dress back it was as if she partially completed it. The stitch at the bottom was a mess, and to top it off the thread did even match the color of the dress which made the horrible stitch stand out like an eyesore!!!! I then in a fury went up to Jo Ann fabrics to get the right color thread. I took the dress in with me to make sure I got the right color and two of the workers and a customer told me right to my face I was ripped off and that The lady who did the dress did not finish the dress!! I then took it to a savior who was able to fix my dress in just hours and made it look like it should have been! She even said that it was all wrong, so 4 total and my own mother said that job was a disaster! She also stitched the top side of my dress that was a mess as well that then caused the lace to be all messed up. When I called Joan to ask if she did my dress, she said yes and when I said well it’s not completed the stitch isn’t right and not even the right color! Her response, it’s a French hem, it’s what all the ladies want. This work is no where near the whopping $98 she charged me. I wanted nothing more to get out of there because I was horrified. She said well if you didn’t like it then you should have told me so I can fix it. Well I’mSorry, when you lose my trust the first time no chance in hell would I return for you to fix the mess! Joan tried telling me I’m the first person in 35 years and that I was first, which I find hilarious because if you do digging, which I should have before hand you will find 1star reviews similar to mine. I feel that my money should be returned, at least half because I mean if you look at the dress it was half completed! The last picture is from the fixed stitch, a complete 180 difference!

Joan does excellent work and my daughters dress fit perfect and was done when she said it would be.

The first time we went, Joan hemmed my daughters prom dress and increased the slit in the side. It was $92. Yes, she needed it 4 days later, but the sewing was less professional than I expected. I went back, and dropped off a dress to be hemmed, This was not a rush order. I was told I would receive it by Nov. 13th. After hearing nothing, I called on Nov 24th to listen to a message stating all non rush orders were on hold, and to WAIT for a call. I heard nothing. I called this evening, (you cannot leave a message, but you can leave a text, or call back, and someone will get to you), no one answered, so I left a text regarding my dress again. I received no response. I called three more times, and then sent an email. I finally received a response. I was told I had received a voicemail on the 14th that my dress was done. I looked in my phone history, and no message was left. I would not have called back if someone had gotten a hold of me the first text on the 24th. I will be looking at other places. What a shame. Poor business experience.

One star is being nice... I dropped off my wedding dress over a month before I needed it. A week and a half before my wedding it was still not done I think she rushed doing my dress the hem was torn and fraying before the wedding even started. The bustle pin broke within a hour of it being up. I found make up stains on my dress. The bra cups were just put in whereever she felt like putting them in. My bridesmaids dresses hem also tore. I will never ever go here again and will never recommend this place to anyone!

Joan is fantastic, very responsive and listens to what you need and when you need it by. Shes always has my stuff ready early and Ive not had any problems with any of the work that shes done for me and Ive used her quite a bit on many different projects.

Very disappointed. The hem was poorly done and stiching was clearly visible. There was also some bunching around the stiching.
