Debbie is NEXT LEVEL. She did my wedding dress alterations which included restructuring delicate lace detailing and you would never know that the dress was cut apart at one point. It looked flawless for my wedding day and fit like a glove. Debbie is a master at what she does and I would highly recommend her for dress alteration services.

Not even sure about where to start with Debbie. She is SO good at what she does. She welcomed me with open arms when I came to her with a sample dress that was three sizes too big, filthy dirty and had less than 2 weeks until my wedding (I was also out of town for the next 7 days.) She never hesitated once to help me. Her assistant was so helpful in coordinating my appointments and Debbie was already to roll as soon as I arrived. She altered this dress to fit every curve of my body and didnt let me take it home until it was absolutely perfect. Her services were very affordable and I truly enjoyed working with her. We are having a reception this coming summer since we had to downsize our wedding this year and she will be doing my dress for this event as well. I will never go to anyone else!

I used Barb for my alterations for my gorgeous Jasmine wedding dress. Not only was Barb extremely friendly and helpful, but she also tailored my dress to be perfectly fitted to my shape. Her office was clean and I felt very comfortable with the work she did. I tend to feel self conscious of my chest without a bra on and with the cup work she did on my dress ensured a fabulous lift and perception of my chest. Would recommend her to anyone! Thanks Barb!

Barb is a lifesaver! I bought a “custommade” dress for my daughter’s wedding from a store, and when it was shipped the proportions were totally off and it did not fit at all. The store flat out refused to fix it and I was in a bind. When I brought the dress to Barb I was not optimistic that it could be salvaged but I was totally wrong! Barb is extremely talented - she did an incredible job and it turned out perfect! The beading made the fabric difficult fabric to work with, but Barb worked her magic and it came out wonderful. She even added sleeves and a back, finding the perfect material and designing it so it matched the dress perfectly. I highly recommend Barb to anyone looking for a custom-made dress, a re-make like mine or alterations.

My wife had a stressful experience - please see her description below:Do not go to Barb for alterations! She ruined my lace wedding gown, and I ended up having to get a new wedding gown! To make matters worse, she agreed to reimburse half of the up-front (total) cost when I decided to split ways with her, but did not send it when she said she would. She had agreed to send it several times and then did not send it. I had to keep asking her for it and threaten to get a lawyer involved before she finally sent the half reimbursement payment two months later! Truthfully, the dress was ruined, so it shouldve been a full reimbursement. Two other seamstresses professional opinions on the dress since pointed out irreversible mistakes with both the hem and how the gown was taken in at the bust. ((Also - Her response to my Yelp review cites a life threatening surgery.. she had mentioned that that had been in her history when I met her, NOT a current issue at all - so yet again - another lie!!))On my first visit, I did not leave feeling great, as she could not clearly answer the questions I had about the plan of alterations on the dress. She also began pinning up the bottom hem on the first visit. I reminded her that I did not have my shoes yet, but I would have them for the next visit. She wanted to just show me what it would look like at the appropriate length, so I was okay with that, but reminded her again before I left to please not hem it due to not having shoes yet. Plus, there were many other areas to work on as the dress did need significant alterations due to sizing.Upon arrival on my second visit, I was very alarmed! My dress had been hemmed (horribly by the way) despite two reminders not to! She tried to downplay her mistake like it was no big deal. The way she had taken in the dress looked terrible in the back. It lost its attractive V-like shape in the back and the lace fabric had been pulled in a way that it did not lay appropriately (wrinkled/puckered when I was standing at rest). We split ways due to her poor craftsmanship and inability to answer questions and resolve issues.

I had a great experience getting my wedding dress altered with Barb. She does so many wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses that I completely trusted her with her suggestions, and my dress turned out great! She doesnt price gouge you on things like a simple bustle like other seamstresses do, too. If you need a wedding dress altered, take it to Barb!

I had my wedding dress and my moms mother of the bride dress altered here. Barb was super sweet but the overall work was not the best. My dress ended up being too long in the back making dancing really hard. My mom wanted the arms of her dress lowered however she also took in the sides making the dress too tight. I had high hopes but overall my dress did not turn out how o wanted it. I spent a great amount of money to have this done and felt I deserved more. Barb clearly was taking on more dresses then she could handle. The icing on the cake was when I went in to pick up the dress I had to insist on trying it on. Found once I tried it on that the bustle was done wrong. If I hadnt insisted on trying it on I would have had no bustle on my wedding day! Come on.

I was satisfied, but not impressed with my experience with Bridal Alterations Pittsburgh. I was charged a very high price ($500) for my alterations (Barb had to change the placement of the zipper, add a belt, and hem the bottom, so I expected to be extremely wowed. At the second fitting, nothing was done on my dress, leaving me to believe that that appointment was a waste of my time. Barb had to reschedule my third fitting due to a death in the family- completely understandable. However, Barb also left me a message before the 3rd fitting (4 days before my wedding due to rescheduling) asking me to come later since she needed to step out. That felt very unprofessional to me- especially as she made clear that this appointment would be to simply try on the dress and take it home. Enough time had not been left to do additional work. However, as no work had been done at the second fitting, I had to put a lot of faith into hoping I would like the alterations. Overall, the dress was fine, not great, and not worth the $500 I was charged. I was an extremely laid back bride and I was stressed with this process. Overall, this company is not for you if you 1) arent looking to spend an arm and a leg 2) want to be involved in the process 3) are a moderate to high maintenance bride.

Very unprofessional business. Brides, GET YOUR REFUNDS WHILE YOU CAN.I am getting married in September and scheduled an appointment with Barb in April to start alterations. I arrive at the agreed upon date and time. No ones home. Barb talks to me through her doorbell app and asks if Ill just hang out in my car until she can get there. Once she finishes her GROCERY SHOPPING, her and her husband pull up, half an hour later. Im very irritated but I need the alterations, and Ive already driven to Robinson, so whatever. She charges me $300 to tack up the shoulders and shorten the hemline. The price seems exorbitant and Ive never been charged prior to services rendered for alterations, but again, I keep my mouth shut and forge ahead. We schedule a fitting appointment for late July.Fast forward to last Monday, I call the shop to confirm my appointment, knowing Barb has the memory of a goldfish. I get no answer. Wednesday, her daughter calls, saying Barb is in the hospital, and apparently has been for some time. Wow, sorry to hear that, but Barb is running a business, and no one thought to notify her PAYING CUSTOMERS that she hasnt even started working on their expensive and time-sensitive dresses! Im quite sure the only reason I ever heard a word about it is because I called to confirm my appointment. I picked up my dress and received a full refund, which is all the good I can say for this company. Good luck with your health Barb, but brides look elsewhere for alterations!

We had a great experience with Barb. We went to her to hem a wedding dress and walked away with not only the hemmed dress, but one that was cleaned and pressed. She made so many extra touches that made the dress that much prettier. She also has a nice little area to try on the dress, complete with platform and mirror. We would recommend her to anyone looking to have their wedding dresses altered. We will definitely go back to her for our other daughters needs.

I came to Barb to have her alter my wedding dress for my wedding this summer. I’m not a particular bride, I’m pretty easygoing & I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. But if you are looking for wedding dress alterations, I would not to come to Barb. My dress needed to have the sleeves raised, hemmed bottom, a layer of tulle taken out, & a bustle. Everything else fit perfectly. I ended up having 7 dress appointments due to miss-aligned lace, unfinished bustle (3 dress appointments for that), uneven hemming, sleeves being cut too short, and so much more. We kept needing to make more appointments due to Barbs errors. At first, didn’t know if I was being too nitpicky, but when I would try on the dress, there would be error after error, after error. I eventually took my mom with me just to make sure I wasn’t the only one seeing these mistakes. (Just trying give the benefit of the doubt). My mom ended up coming to the next 5 appointments with me & she saw all the errors & definitely was shocked to keep seeing unfinished work each time. The 7th appointment was 9ish days before the wedding. The dress should have been done & ready for us to take home. After 2+ hrs of standing, having Barb try and get the bustle up (that she made herself) & still having the hem be completely uneven. My mom & I kindly said that we needed to take the dress elsewhere because it was clear that Barb could not have this finished. We didn’t ask for a refund, we didn’t want to hurt her feelings, we just needed to have someone else do this dress.Thankfully my florist doubled as a wedding dress alterer. And she willingly had me come in, have a quick appointment, fix the bustle up perfectly, & got the hem aligned. When I came back to her to pick up the dress she took out the old hem section that Barb had created & noted where it went wrong & how uneven it was. She was amazed on how noticeably uneven it was. In the end, I’m thankful that my florist just knew exactly what to do & my dress ended up just looking beautiful thanks to her.Truly, I think Barb had some great talent back in her day. But her eye for details is just not there anymore. I do not think she should be doing alterations for wedding dresses. The only reason that I’m giving her 2 stars instead of 1 is because I think that she tries really hard to get it right, so her willingness to keep working on it was good. But I do not think she has the ability to alter wedding dresses well anymore due to countless avoidable errors she kept making.

I have never heard of such a pathetic business in my life. These are crooks. You should never ever ever do business with these people. Bride gave multiple months to get her dress altered and this pathetic excuse for a business canceled the final fitting multiple times at the last minute. Pushing the final fitting back to a week and half before the wedding to find out she never even started the dress. Now the poor bride a week before her wedding is frantically scrambling to find other options. You should be ashamed of yourself and there’s is no excuse that could possibly make this okay. STAY AWAY!!!

I went to Barb in early July to have two bridesmaid dresses altered. Barb contacted me a few days before I was supposed to pick up one of the dresses (for a wedding on August 4th) to let me know she had just had major emergency surgery and was in the hospital for 3 weeks. Despite recovering from this major health issue, Barb still offered to fix my dresses but also gave me the option to receive a refund and take my dresses elsewhere. I chose to stay with Barb, and she had my first dress completed as scheduled and ready for pick-up. The dress fit beautifully and was perfectly steamed and ready for me when I arrived. I really appreciated Barbs willingness to finish my dresses despite all that she has gone through and will continue to use her in the future. I felt her prices were reasonable and she was very professional throughout the experience. My sister-in-law and mother-in-law also use Barb for their dress alterations and have nothing but good things to say!

Was referred to barb from a well knownseamstress, so I thought she knew her. Had I read her reviews i would not have gone to her. When I called, barb got me right in so I thought thats how it would go. It was really out of my way by40 minutes, but I work in wash.cty sometimes.first fitting i was really excited. As soon as I changed, and we talked about price though. I was fairly quickly disappointed over the price she gave me. My dress fit like a glove and only needed to be hemmed and then she was sewing cups in for $420!?? say what!?? That was the whole reason I chose to go with private seamstress .. to avoid the high cost. I think David,s would have been lower than that! However, she told me she was wanting to barter.. which meant I would trade my residential cleaning service business in a few visits to get my dress. So I agree to that, and she signed the receipt with barter. After that it became a business nightmare for me. I messaged barb the evening before our first scheduled cleaning and she confirmed I could come the next day. 20 minutes before, while Im halfway there (remember 40 minutes away) she tells me she has dinner plans. So I rescheduled with her and was rather pleasant even though I know had to drive 20 more mins back home, and lost $120 because I could have put someone else in her place HAD SHE TOLD ME WHEN I CONFIRMED THE NIGHT BEFORE. but, mistakes happen and people get busy so I was very proffesional sbout it and did not make it a big deal. But then it happens again!! By the third time of this nonsense, Im out $360 dollars of people I could have put in that slot, had she kept her appt and not cancelled moments before Im suposed to be there! Also.im out tons of gas, mileage, and more than that...MY TIME. I have a 3 strikes your out policy with new clients, but before I could get to that, after her 3rdcancellation i get a coy text my husband is mad I bartered with you ... um no .. thats a lie. I clearly saw who wears the pants there. Thats just an excuse and how UNPROFFESIONAL to involve your personal life when we are bartering both with personal business services we provide. At this point Im just insulted and exhausted with this woman and just want my dress. I say since this is such a problem I will just pay for my dress.. yep $420 overpriced dollars. Which I never would have agreed to in the beginning. So time passes. I did my dress fitting 4 mos before wedding so there is plenty of time to do such small alterations. I call like I am supposed to, 30 days before wedding to get my final fitting in. She has me coming a Tuesday, 2 and half weeks before wedding. Im really nervous about this, Im thinking if she needs to fix anything she did, how will she have time that close to wedding? But I trusted that she would not be as flippant with my dress, as she was with our bartering deal.10 mins before I was leaving to head to her house it was like deja vu with the cleaning appts. This time it was her husband though, calling me from her phone. He told me barb was in the hospital. I said oh no! And was compassionate to what he was saying. But he assured me she was ok, just had a minor procedure that she went in early for. Me, thinking my dress is done she just isnt there right now... rescheduled our appt for the following Tuesday.. same time. It was a nerve racking wait. I never recieved a call or anything from barb, and I would get no reply to my confirmation texts prior to my appt. I was a wreck. I messaged barb the am of my appt. At noon I said Im on my way. When I get there.. the house is dark and empty. And no answer on cell or house phone. This is when I lose it. Long story short, my dress was never done. I had to sit in their yard for hrs ready to call the police to get my dress back. Im sorry if she is having health issues, but my name/number was stapled to dress.her husband should have called me. She had it for 4 mos.prior to procedure. Now I have a 2k dress no one Can alter in less than a week. She has in one fail swoop ruined this wedding. will be hearing from my lawyer.

I had a simple bridesmaid dress altered by Barb a few years ago for my brothers wedding. Barb did a great job on the hem and adding cups. I felt like I trusted her enough to alter my wedding gown a few years later, but I was unfortunately wrong. I would not recommend barb for anything more sophisticated. She nearly ruined my wedding dress and caused a great deal of stress.I found my dress at a boutique. I loved it but wanted to have it taken in more through the thighs for a sleeker fit and flare look. I called Barb, explaining exactly what I wanted and asked if she could do it, to which she replied YES. It turns out she could not, all she offered was a slip which I thought might work at first but really only added extra volume to the bottom which was not the look I wanted. She did do the hem, bustle, and added cups okay but I think where things really went wrong was when she brought in only the top section of my dress without regarding how the remainder of the dress would fit. Once she pulled in the top of the dress tighter on my body, the rest of the dress did not lay properly. There was a gap along my back to my butt, there were odd creases along both sides of the back. This was not the smooth and sleek look I was going for.Barb was swamped with other work at this point and made me feel like she didnt have time to continue working on my dress. Either she does not have an eye for this kind of work or she just wanted to avoid fixing her mistakes due to her busy schedule. She told me it wasnt the dress that was messed up but my BODY! She said I needed plastic surgery- this is NOT the kind of thing an already stressed out bride needs to hear a month before her wedding. I am not a confrontational person so it was tough to avoid letting her walk all over me. In the end she agreed to try and fix the dress by bringing it in at a few more spots, and removing some of the darting. Then I asked to pick it up early. When I went to pick it up a few weeks later, I asked to try it on once more, and she said, Why? Its too late to change anything now. At this point I just wanted to take my dress and get out of there. When I got home and tried it on again I was heartbroken to see that there were still odd creases and wrinkles, it looked like there was bunched up fabric in the under layers. And I did NOT get my fit and flare look.I decided I had to get another opinion so I took the dress to another seamstress. SHE was seriously amazing. She looked at the dress with me for an hour, made changes while I was there and brought it back again and again for me to try on and observe. She clipped the side seams to relieve some of the pressure on the dress, showed me where barb had made mistakes in the side seams and had caught extra fabric on the back of the seams. She said Barb left nearly no seam allowance so it would be difficult to fix but she managed to pull it off by bringing in my back zipper to get rid of that gaping fabric AND to top it all off she was able to bring the dress in to be fitted through my thighs and give me the fit and flare look I wanted all along.Long story short, DO NOT go to Barb for more than the basic alterations unless you want to pay for bridal alterations again, waste hundreds of dollars, and be insulted about your body in the process.
