I love City Fitness! The people at City Fitness are really what make it different from other gyms. I do their Thrive program a couple times per week and love it! My trainer and the other people in Thrive are all great and have become friends.Everything is always clean and orderly and the other members are respectful of your space and the rules regarding wiping down machines and equipment. Their app makes life easier and the membership staff always make sure youre happy with your City Fitness experience. I couldnt recommend it more!
Could be a great gym, depending on what youre there for, we were there to do some bodybuilding training, and found it lacking, very limited equipment, missing a lot of essentials... but, plenty of cardio equipment and a large cross-training area... not the best place for the hardcore bodybuilder, but a very good fitness center ...its also very clean and modern.
Ive been going to City Fitness in Northern Liberties for over three years. The gym is well equipped and very clean. The people at the front desk always greet you whether youre coming in or leaving the gym. I sure did miss this gym when they had to close for a year due to the Covid pandemic.
Have been going here for 3 years. Usually overcrowded with waits for most machines. Only 3 benches since the start of covid. Had my keys and wallet stolen from the lockerroom and the staff refused the police officers to watch the camera tapes. The gym was becoming too diverse so now you must show your vaccination card to be admitted. Probably wont be long before you have to show the rest of your medical records. $70-80 a month doesnt get you anything more than planet fitness. My account was terminated without my notice after I refused to present my gold star
Needs new equipment (e.g only one leg extension machine, which is frequently broken); Thrive isnt worth it (becomes repetitive and is overpriced by 50% compared to local comparable Crossfit rates); friendly staff, clean towels, clean locker rooms, sauna; fellow patrons are generally good, except for a few fitness bros who think they own the place and will occupy 2-3 pieces of equipment at once. Overall, a job that will serve your needs, but it could use upgrades and more attention, not least as the original flagship gym.
Been a member of this gym for, I think about 6 years now. I always felt like it was a good mix between a local gym and one of the big franchises like LA Fitness. It feels like the best of both worlds, large professional facility but with a more hometown community feel. I have the city pass and its convenient to be able to drop into all the other locations, but NoLibs has been my home gym since I joined. Its clean, (especially since COVID theyve really gone all out, I never felt unsafe here). I really like the variety of classes. Its nice to be able to jump right between from lifting into a yoga class at the same location.
Clean gym with friendly staff and a small, but cute yoga studio with wonderful instructors! There is a tanning salon as well, which I havent tried yet, but will put to good use soon
Love the northern liberties City Fitness club. Its clean and everyone is very respectful of your space. Great energy for my workouts all the time!
It is conveniently down the street from my job. It is VERY clean and the staff is always pleasant.
Horrible place - please do not visit. A girl who sincerely walked in requesting to use their bathroom as she was on a run, and they straight up refused her. No courtesy and no assistance required. Id want to go to a place that is courteous and humane and helpful to others, not only using people MONEY.
The front staff are nice and the gym is high quality with a lot of machines and equipment. however, i have never had a worse experience anywhere else in terms of money. they took hundreds of dollars from me because i was locked in a contract without me realizing it, and they would not refund me.
Amazing gym!!! The people who work here up front are so very friendly and welcoming. Susan is extremely nice, personable and friendly. She gave me a tour on my first time and made me feel so comfortable. The layout is nice, but everything is very close to each other. I did take a Zumba class here which was extremely intimidating because it was my first time and everyone in the class knew exactly what they were doing and the instructor, Gina, didnt talk or use words at all we were just supposed to copy her. Which was embarrassing being in a class full of people who knew all the moves because they were her regulars
Well-maintained gym with highly proficient and friendly instructors. Attention to COVID-safety measures (limiting capacity overall and in classes, sanitizing, air treatment) is exceptional.
Ive been going here for 3 years. Ive belonged to small local gyms and the large LA Fitnesss of the world. City Fitness does an excellent job with communication from management about changes, especially through Covid-19, the transparency has been great. The $50-60 dollars a month is extremely cheap for a nice gym (seriously if thats too much for you, I can only imagine you go to Planet Fitness five times a year). Never had a single billing issue, despite other reviews Ive read. Sure, during 5pm after work rush, its crowded, so is everywhere else. I go at 8pm and Im usually in there with 15-20 people, pretty great for a concentrated area of the city with a younger professional crowd. Ive never used the locker room, showers, etc. Dont need to, so cant comment on that.tl;dr / if youre looking for a gym to lift at, at a good price, this is it.
City Fitness is the place to enjoy a worry-free workout in the times of pandemic. As always, the group fitness classes are fun and safe.
This place would be fine if it wasnt so hot and stuffy in there. It would be uncomfortable anyway, but its especially uncomfortable when you feel like theres no effort to get ventilation during a pandemic.
Awesome gym and excellent smoothie bar. Parking is a huge plus.
Absolutely the gym with the worst support.Update: still unable to cancel my membership and they’re still taking fees after I submitted the form 3 weeks ago. COVID shut down a lot of gyms and it should’ve took this one down with it.A complete joke, will never go back.
Clean, up to date gym that also has a friendly community feel to it.I didn’t think I would stick with the Thrive program- but I’ve found it worthwhile so I’ve been going consistently for almost 2 years now.My trainer, Ahmad, works with me to personalize workouts and help figure out nutrition to optimize results. I’ve gotten a lot stronger than when I started. For example, I used to barely be able to deadlift 100lbs and now I’m up to being able to do 185lb for 5x5. Ahmad is professional, very knowledgeable, and fun to work with. The thrive program keeps me accountable and motivates me to work out more on my own too. I also like some of the yoga and spin classes that are all included in my membership.
DO NOT SIGN UP! Just tried signing up again and I owe over $800 for a gym I only did a free trial at. I ended up moving and they wouldn’t let me freeze or cancel my membership which resulted in this $800 in collections. Which is ridiculous for a place I went to the gym at a handful of times. If City Fitness sees this you need to fix this because this is not ok and making me pay even half of it which is their solution is ridiculous.
This is the worst gym i have ever been to for the price you’re paying. $60 - $70 a month for the worst covid restrictions possible. Only 4 people in back weight room. $5 missed appointment fees. But, dont worry you wont even be able to experience this because all there appointments are booked up some days. Overall, it has the potential to be a great gym just ran poorly.
I have been to many gyms over the years but this one has by far been the best experience. About 6 months into doing the mundane training splits, coach Ahmad approached me about doing the THRIVE program and I have not looked back! Ahmad definitely is a master of his craft and my results are better than I expected! The program is a little pricey but I justify it by reiterating to myself that I am investing in myself. Go see Ahmad, he won’t let you down!
This gym should be renamed from City Fitness to Wallet Fitness because the only thing slimming down will be your wallet.
When my trainer from another gym began working at City Fitness I decided to follow him, and Im happy that I did!I felt welcomed from the moment that I walked through the doors. EVERYONE is friendly and the entire gym is always so clean! There is always a machine available to workout on whenever Im ready, no waiting for someone to get off.... The trainers are motivating without being overbearing (which Ive experienced at other places) and no matter what your shape, size, or strength is they make you feel good about yourself and your goals! What I love most are the convenient hours, Im a night person so the gym staying open until 1am is wonderful for me!!
CF offers everything you need. There are so many treadmills you will never find yourself waiting for one. Personal trainers here are great. Got no complaints about the equipment. Membership costs are less than the gyms in center city. Overall a great gym.
City fitness keeps a tight ship. Every gym Ive been to is clean and inviting. smaller than the graduate hospital and Fishtown gym but I like the set up of the thrive area and how members have a chance to use that area and equipment at times
Went in to check out a membership. I currently go to Planet Fitness. I dont do classes or personal trainers. Just need the weights and a place closer. Staff was nice, but offered me 3 times the price of PF! Thats outrageous. And they charge minimum 34.99 BI WEEKLY. Dont believe any reviews that say otherwise. Lots of liars on here. I DO NOT recommend wasting your money unless you want to throw it away. You can workout much cheaper.
Nice and clean
Very clean facility, equipment always in good shape. I been coming here for 10 years and its always a good clean environment. They even finally added the 100 lb dumbbells back. Only think I dislike is they constantly keep raising their prices and limit you to which club you access. Fortunately Im locked in at $19.99.
True story: I love this gym so much that when I was looking for a new apartment, my main requirement was to be walking distance from City Fitness! Its such a great gym. It really feels like family. Its one of the rare gyms that everyone actually says hello to each other. They have something for everyone no matter what your level or preference is. Great Thrive program and awesome classes! I go to Richs boot camps religiously. You can also get amazing workouts from from Brian D. and Alfonzos boot camps. Intense cardio from Carl and Angelas spin. This gym really has something for everyone! Oh, and you can get a post-workout recovery smoothie after the work out from Angie! Shout out to JP and Joyce too. Love them :)
Started their free 7 day trial a few days ago. The price point for a monthly membership is a bit steep, but perhaps Im just used to the other no frills gyms - and frankly, thats all I needed here too. Thus far however I always judge a gym by two things - how busy it feels, options of equipment, cleanliness / organization.1) Its not crowded. That could just be a function of when I go ( early AM ), but I rarely if ever have to wait for any equipment. I dont mind a busy gym, but if its busy then it should have enough of EVERYTHING so that I dont have to wait.2) Options. If youre into classes - they have classes. If youre into elliptical, they have them too ( and stair climbers, etc ). For me, they have two different weight areas - one with machines and lighter free weights ( up to 60 lbs or so ) and another area of free weights with free weight benches, dumbbells, etc. A large well equipped stretching area rounds it out for me - foam rollers, stretching bands, and stretching equipment.3) The weights are where they belong. Plates and dumbbells are not strewn about. The locker rooms seem clean. Simple stuff, but its good to go.Downside? I know its a local chain - but man does it feel cool corp with everyone in black tops and bottoms ( funny, because thats what I wear too... but I dont work there ). And I seem to often walk in to overhearing employees of varying levels complaining about things.
Nice
Great gym. Nice staff. Clean and updated equipment. They have 4 stair masters which if awesome. They also have mirrors everywhere so you can see yourself. To me its worth the high price tag because of the classes they offer. They offer Zumba, cycling, yoga, and other classes that use body weight and weights. They have a sauna, clean showers, locker room, and few towels.
Always clean with great friendly staff. Ive been going for almost two weeks now and all the equipment I have used had been working fine. Their open workout area is a great touch to a normal weight lifting gym. Overall this place is great.
All of the equipment is brand spanking new. I have a membership to the facility on Spring Garden St. I signed up because I live close. Prior to sign up I heard more horror stories than good ones. I decided to see for myself because I dont really care about a lot of stuff people were talking about. I just want to work out when I have the time or when Im up to it and I dont want a place thats packed or full of bodybuilders doing a competition with themselves in the mirror. The people are cool, havent had any negative experiences. I will say this though, I had to deduct a star due to limited parking (mainly during peak times) and another for the price. I pay $70/mo and I paid $50 to sign up which was a deal!! 3 months later I paid a $40/fee thats charged annually. Ill give this gym another 3 months before I start looking for cheaper options. I still have my Planet Fitness membership as well so I find myself going there more often than not because I just need the treadmill or bike for 30-45mins.Im almost certain City Fitness and Planet Fitness is the same exact company!!!
Ive been a member for ~5 years. The place is reasonably clean, well lit, and with good air circulation. The staff are generally friendly and helpful. But management is horrible. Many of the other reviewers are on the mark. Even back in 2000, they were very unhelpful regarding anything that had to do w/ billing or membership issues. Over time, consideration about clients has dropped. Horrible price increases, extra charges for everything, and now they fenced off a third of the space for Thrive. Machine servicing is also not as regular. Things have deteriorated. When they increased the price of my basic membership more than 50%, I figured its about time to say bye bye.
Great gym and state of the art facility overall. But its always busy, and its about 3x the price of any other franchise gym. To each his own!
This gym goes above and beyond the normal limits of an urban fitness center. They have the award winning THRIVE program alongside many other great fitness classes for everyone of all skill levels. The staff is friendly and the gym is clean. Overall its a great urban gym experience for a reasonable price!
Great gym
Clean facility, kind staff, and a great work out environment- this place is awesome!
Cliché for sure, but true: I am treated as an individual. I feel that my goals, limitations, and personality are always considered - yet all involved truly motivate me to reach a little higher than I might have otherwise. I go three times a week for the Thrive program; the people working out are of all ages (Im 62) and fitness levels and I have a sense that the trainers are really adjusting the program to suit a particular client. Good stuff.
I have given this a gym a 3 star rating because as a member for 8+ years, the amount of space dedicated to weight lifting shrank by roughly 30%. Personal training and thrive has been the focus the past few years. This makes the gym a lot more crowded during peak morning and afternoon hours which can make it a time waster when you have to wait for machines.Other than that, the gym is clean and most of the staff is friendly, depends on the day though.
Pretty good gym but I was told I could cancel my membership over the phone. Checked my bank account and money was taken out. Having trouble reaching the billing manager. Would rather not be out $60/mo for nothing plus $40 maintenance fees (?) when Im hundreds of miles away. Pretty sad if thats the way your gym has to make money. Should maybe make money from amazing classes people would be happy to pay $$$ for or something crazy like that idk.
Lots of classes and great equipment. Staff are super friendly. As low as $25 per month plus the sign up fee if you do it right
I joined this gym when I moved to Northern Liberties and I really enjoy it. The staff is always very friendly, the price is reasonable and the hours are great!
Loving working out here. Juice bar is pretty cool
Did their free Trial as Early access pass, but then somehow they got me at a 3 months contract member. Phone rang off the hook after I cancel with them. Its been fun but I cant afford it.
Friendly staff, always clean and equipment is well maintained!
Awful fitness facility. Body shaming employees. THE Gym will promise you $24.99 a month then fail to tell you it’s billed twice a month then they won’t bill you on equally spaced days. One bill might be the 11th of the month as the next the 14th. Then next month it might be 2 weeks apart in billing. They will sneakily charge you $30 twice a month hoping you don’t notice and when you try to speak to the billing manager you are given the run around until you give up.The THRIVE fitness program is a scam.
Great place to come and workout. You get a great support system from the moment you walk in.
Ill start with the good:-Relatively clean facility-Members are friendly for the most part, but that has nothing to do with the gym its just a plus-Equipment is usually in working condition, and there is plenty of equipment-Thats about it for the goodThe bad:-Terrible billing practice. Will continue to bill even after you cancel.-Tons of hidden fees- Fee to sign up, fee to cancel early, fee to cancel on time (no, Im not kidding), fee to make sure that your other fees dont increase (again, not kidding. Its called a rate-lock fee)-They will try just about anything to get a sale out of you or to get you to sign up, including lying to your face about their policies.-Membership prices often vary from member to member, not a good sign-Membership fees have been continuously increasing-Staff is very cliquey and inattentive at some timesAt the end of the day, its a nice place but dont be fooled by it. City Fitness isnt a gym, its a sales room with dumbbells.
Absolutely HORRIBLE experience with the personal training group fitness. Body shamers. Frank is a disgrace. Likes to make people feel horrible about themselves. I would never recommend this place. Tries to guilt people into signing up for services even though unable to afford.
Thrive sucks. Join Warhorse if you want to actually get strong.
I was touring gyms in the area and was very interested in City Fitness- still am- but really turned off by my experience there. My spouse and I went together after work to tour the gym. We didnt work out, but checked out the facility to see if it has what we are interested. Afterwards, we got sat down and pressured into committing to a membership because it was $70 off of the $99 joining fee if we signed that day. We had no way of knowing this, and we hadnt even tried any fitness classes, so I wasnt quite ready to sign at that moment, even with the discount. We are also touring other facilities, so I didnt want to sign for one before trying others. Well, the fitness sales manager really kept pushing, telling us we had two weeks to try and return it if we decided we didnt like the gym, did we not understand the discount we were getting, that we would be wasting our money to join later, that we should buy now because we could still try other gyms because we wont like one better than City Fitness, etc. We are really interested in kickboxing and wanted to rule out a kickboxing only gym before fully committing to City Fitness- I think this is reasonable. We tried to be firm and tell the manager we didnt mind having to pay the full enrollment fee if and when we decided to join and he rolled his eyes, clearly got a bit more hostile, and said I can guarantee I will never see you back here ever again and that we are just choosing to neglect our own health and bodies by not joining the gym. WOAH- its not that we didnt want to join the gym or neglect our healths, we just didnt appreciate the insanely hard sell after saying we wanted to wait several times over. I mean, we only toured the facility, we didnt even work out there yet, why would we commit right then?! To be honest, in the beginning of his spiel before he got more aggressive, I was actually getting excited and ready to ask my spouse if he wanted to just take the plunge and join, but this manager, Evan, really made me uncomfortable and turned me off from wanting to join. The hard sell may work for some, but insulting potential customers and pushing for a sale after my spouse and I politely said we would like to wait over five times is too much. Its a nice facility with great amenities and Id like to go back, but this experience really soured my perception in a really negative way. If we do go back, I will be avoiding Evan at all costs and hope another employee can do our sale. After reading other reviews, this seems to be the common trend. NO THANKS! Im letting all of my friends know so they can avoid avoid avoid.
They will try to take every penny from you. The sign up process is manipulative and pushy. The fees are ridiculous. If your card changes and does not go through they will not only charge you with a city fitness processing charge, but also with a billing company charge. Its absolutely ridiculous. This part is only in regards to the way they handle their business, not the people working there.Thrive program is great.
Great gym. Lots of classes and good equipment. Lots of space.
The staff is 50/50. And people believe that they will take your money. For the price you pay for their membership you would expect a lot more freeweights as well with machines. This gym is a basic Planet fitness with free weights and trainers. O yea! And $30 more than Planet Fitness. Bathrooms are always out of paper towels and the showers have that unclean smell. I have left a very easy mark in the shower like I do in all gyms to see if they clean them or not. Lets just say that mark stayed for 2 weeks. Could wipe the dirt off with a finger.
I moved out of the area and put my account on freeze a week ago and Im still being charged. Im beyond frustrated with they way this gym handles their billing. Always trying to get the extra dollar. I then tried to cancel my membership. Beware, when you cancel you still get charged for another month. Even though you are standing in front of them, telling them you cant and dont want to come to their gym anymore, you will still be charged for another TWO billing cycles!
Went in to learn more about the gym and tour the facility. Before I would even be allowed to speak to someone about a membership, they required all my personal information and to sign a liability form. I am not giving a gym my personal information before signing up. This is unacceptable in the time of information breaches. The front desk was very rude and would not give an explanation for why this is mandatory.
A nice gym to work out at if you have both a propensity and a passion for pumping iron. 💪😎
Service is friendly and the facilities are decent. Membership feels like its a rigged game where theyre constantly pushing you to join something new, add a new service, or jump through some extra hoop to make an extra buck.
Excellent facility and staff. Just started there after the 12th Street Gym disaster. The place is spotless, easy to navigate and has plenty of stations, equipment and rooms designed for speciality classes such a specially layed out and lighted spinning rooms. Parking is also available but limited in the number of spaces...street side prking is usually very available all around the building.
Great, but if you shower there they only have hand towels :(
I went there, just to take a look at the facility and see if I wanted to become a member, the lady at the front desk was very kindly, until when I decided that I dont want to become a member. I noticed that there were a lot of hidden fees that she didnt even mention, for instance she said that you wont get a contract cause its on a month to month basis, but on the other hand, if you want to cancel within the first 6 months, you will have to pay a $100 cancelation fees.. so you have to be very careful when signing up with this gym.. many things they just wont tell you, I even spoke to the vice president of the gym, his name is Jeff Quinn, I told him about his staff member and that I didnt like the way she was acting, but he was very unprofessional and didnt really cared about what I had to say.. so bottom line.. these people are very nice when you trying become a member, but as soon as you try to cancel your membership, theyll show you who they really are. And plus, theres a lot of hidden fees.
The gym was clean and the equipment is top notch. Im not a fan of gyms that have full time sales people on staff. I want to work out, not be sold anything.
• AMAZING staff!• Smoothie Bar (THE BEST in PHILLY)• The variety of classes and options available for no-impact workouts• Equipment and facilities!!!!• Affordability!!!!!• I LOVE CITY FITNESS!!!!
Very bad billing practice. I cancel my membership with the manager last year and they bill me extra for not informing them 30 days before. Even though i paid the following month to validate my cancellation, the receiving a billing from them after one year that my accounts was rather freeze. They charge me after one year a renewal fees and two month even though i have cancel my membership over a year. The billing manager is telling me to now send her an email to stop feather billing on my accounts. I will need help to deal with this people legally. if you feel they have taking money they shouldt have you are welcome.
An over the top elite fitness facility that takes pride in everything they do and every part of the facility. Can train with professional athletes from time to time. Even get some photo ops
Love their instructors and facilities, but I am writing this because of their horrible customer service. Not only was I charged for 5 (5!!!) months when I signed up for a 3 month membership, but I was _not_ told about the fact that my membership would automatically continue, that I would be charged for another month if I did not cancel by a certain date, that I had to come in personally to cancel, and that even though I canceled in person, I was still billed for a 5th month because of the timing. I have now called twice and emailed asking to speak with a manager about my account with no response.
There are a lot of hidden fees - they will try to take as much as they can from you. My wife was ill and trying to cancel her membership (after more than a year of membership) was really difficult. They seem to purposely make it as difficult as possible. She had to physically go into the location to cancel, and even then they are going to charge her for next month because it takes 30 days to notify the billing company which makes no sense. I spoke to Mike, the assistant general manger, who was very rude and also told me he would call back, but never did. I filed a complaint with the BBB.
Recently had a really creepy/inappropriate interaction with a staff member here. He was following me around, whispering things to me, shamelessly staring and making me feel very uncomfortable. Ive been a member for a long time and NEVER once felt that staff has been anything but professional, kind and welcoming. I went to management with this issue, filled out paper work and was told they would get back to me and let me know the problem was addressed, and unfortunately never received any updates or information regarding how the incident was being handled or if it was at all. I then went on the website and filed another official complaint On the site there was an option to get a call back from a team member, I chose that option. Once again, I never heard anything. I had to change locations now because I feel uncomfortable in the place that had previously and always should be fostering a healthy and safe environment. Very disappointed with how City Fitness has refused to acknowledge this issue and I am writing this review in hopes that they will take time seriously and follow up with me and the incident.
HORRIFIC ! ! !If you need to cancel your account, they do not.I called to cancel my account because I moved out of state. They said I needed to send them a certified letter.I did so, but they say they never got it.I put a stop payment on my bank account, three late charges in two days...$ 9.50. $ 19.50, $9.50 on top of the account I tried to cancel. My fees went from $69.99/month to $39.00 annual fee and two monthly charges plus those extra fees GRAND TOTAL: $ 214.27 on an account we have tried to cancel for 2 months.I spoke with the manager and there will be NO REFUND!!!
Well I work there and there r so many people that come to the gym and work out before work and after work it a nice quite place to work out at and Im gladly to tell anybody about the gym
Been a member for years. I enjoy the classes and the facility has up to date equipment.
I appreciate: the cleanliness of the gym and locker rooms; staff friendliness; great trainers-loved working with Tony Kim and now with Colleen Monaghan in Thrive program.
Really enjoying my workouts here. Thrive is also wonderful.
Great staff, very clean facility, and quality equipment.
I initially joined this gym because it was across the street from where I work but was so pleasantly surprised when I discovered how much of a gem (pun!) I had accidentally discovered when I started going regularly.
Awesome gym, membership comes with classes, can be packed during rush hour and difficult with their limited parking. ride a bike if you can!
Good trainers, not much parking, can get crowded.
Gym is excellent and the services provided exceed the monthly cost!
Great gym, friendly staff always clean.
Lets start by saying the staff I have dealt with for the past 3 months have been very nice. However the owner or the manager or whoever is making the corporate decisions need a lesson on running a business. Yes I understand you are in business to make a profit (I too have my own business) but if you want to stay in business you need to find a balance of picking your current and potential customers pockets and making a profit but keeping them happy and referring others. I live in Florida 8-9 months a year and the summer I live right off Spring Garden in Philly. I joined CF 6 11 14 based on a promotion that was misleading but I said who cares I want the gym for 3 months while I am here. I dont recall what the promotion was but it was supposed to be free joining and other stuff BUT they whacked me for $ 50 + up front and then $ 40 + a month thereafter. When I joined I explained I was a snow bird and would only be here 90 days so they sold me the 90 day package (took a copy of my Fl drivers license). At sign up they explained I would have a $ 25 dollar cancellation when I canceled. I argued but in the end I didnt like that but again I was going to be here 90 days so no big deal. So I go to cancel today (8 15 14) and they advised that because I went 4 days past the 11th I had to pay an additional month which would now take me to Oct 15th and not 9 11 14 (90days). Not happy but I said whatever it is $ 40 +, just cancel me. Then I was told in addition to the $ 40 + I would have to pay the $ 25 cancel fee (ok) and a $ 39 rate lock in fee. I blew a gasket. Rate lock in fee for what. She politely says so my rates dont go up. But I am canceling. She calls over another young lady who tells me everyone that goes past the 90 days has to pay the lock in fee. My response was to ask her if she was listening to what she was explaining to me, that being I had to lock in my rate for a non-existing membership as I just canceled it. She repeated herself and I said just because you repeat it doesnt make it right. In the end I will take it up with the manager on Monday but when I come back next summer I will go someplace else. AND over the next 40 days or so that I am here I will tell everyone this story in that it is just that ridiculous. Penny wise, dollar foolish. Go back to business school or go to business school or mentor with someone who has great customer service because you City Fitness Owner/manager are missing the boat.UPDATE - Went to gym today to work out by prior to getting busy I met with the Billing Manager - Julie who waived by Lock in Rate Fee. While I disagree with the way it was all handled until this morning I can live with it. They are in business to make money. I still wont be joining again next summer if and when I come back to Philly for the summer.
Tribe of Fools show Ladders- was great!
Ive been going to City Fitness for roughly 5 years...maybe more and I have to say I love it. The equipment is modern and in great condition, the gym is spacious and they also throw plenty of customer appreciation day events throughtout the year, such as at the North Shore Swim Club in Northen Liberties. This isnt Planet Fitness where you eat pizza while doing crunches, its a gym where diedicated people go to work out. Love this place!
Ond of the members physically threatened me during a conflict and they just brushed it off. On top of that it felt like other male members were singling me out to constantly ask how many more sets I had or if I was done etc. Maybe I didnt look like a gym regular/didnt fit in. Pretty intrusive and unwelcoming.
The staff is friendly and layout is perfect for s great workout.
Probably best gym in the city hands down
Your email program is extremely annoying. Ive unsubscribed about four times, it just starts coming again from another campaign. Today I got 3 emails in regard to perx like subway.Learn how to be professional with your email marketing.
I initially went to this gym because of the availability of their classes (and their instructors who were in majority really nice and knowledgable). I should have noticed this from the tour but the place is overcrowded, classes are overcrowded, mats for yoga are old and really smelly, and then as I continued on they changed their policy and started charging $5 for each class you signed up for but wasnt able to make (I also received multiple charges for classes I did attend and had to go through a process to get my money back - in the end they still charged me for one day I did attend but I was too tired to pressure them about this). This is not a single incident either, I spoke with multiple members who were charged for classes they attended and who were unhappy about how this was handled.Even though they changed the details of their contract and members havent signed the new and revised policies - they still hold you to your contract (I thought that when changes occur within the contract and you dont sign this new contract, legally you are no longer bound to the old contract- but thats not what the administrators/managers at the gym will tell you and they are not very nice about it).I just felt like a nuisance to the managers/employees and someone who was being taken advantage of at this gym and not a member who was being taken care of.
I received a flier from City Fitness in the mail, so I phoned them to obtain some information and a Freddy was so unprofessional that I hung up on him when I realized that every time it was my turn to speak, he was too busy conversing with others. MAJOR FAIL.
