After being here for almost a year, this is the best apartment complex out of all the places Ive ever rented. Best in Norman, and reasonable for the West side. Its pretty quiet, and the office is always attentive to my needs. When I was late paying rent due to the pandemic, they were very understanding. The crew keeps the place looking great, and staff is quick to respond to what few concerns Ive had. Keep it up guys, I have no plan on leaving anytime soon!
I absolutely love living here, any time I’ve had a problem the maintenance men are her within a few hours. I absolutely love the staff here as I’m always greeted and welcomed with a smile.
Happy with my renting experience. Our 2 bed apartment is beautiful. We are in building 2047 and have had zero issues with bugs. Our AC compressor did go out. The staff did everything imaginable to keep us cool while they worked on it. Always kept in touch during the ordering of parts. Promptly responded to every maintenance request . Every single morning the staff are out picking up trash and poop and doing everything possible to keep the community safe and clean. We were very lucky with our neighbors. Felt safe and comfortable for our entire lease.
I really enjoyed my experience here at Charleston apartments! Maintenance was the fastest of any apartment complex I have lived in and Maria (property manager) gets back to you quickly! I would continue to live here if I didnt have to move states! No problems with parking or noise! Lots of green space around for my pet when we go on walks and I like the design of the apartment I was in. Doesnt hurt that you have quite a few things in walking distance like the gym and grocery store as well as many delicious restaurants. Would definitely recommend this site to others and already have!
Rented here for about a year. Caught over 20 mice in my apartment with no assistance from the management. After I got the 23rd mouse the office finally decided to give me mice traps but still refused to call an exterminator. Talked to management at least 10 times about it and they came to inspect the issues at least 3 times and found the mice I had trapped but refused to do anything about it.Maintenence request for my shower took months to fix. I ended up having to put in a request daily until someone bother to look at it.The bathroom ceiling was just a piece of plywood screwed into the ceiling. It took over 6 months for the company to close out my account and return my safety deposit after I moved out. I had to threaten to get a lawyer before they decided to look into it.
One of the best Apartments I have ever lived. I think it has the most square ft per dollar of rent in Norman, OK. Location is wonderful, only a few blocks from OU boundary. Easy access to I-35 or Highway 9. Easy to commute to mall or grocery stores. Absolutely loved it.
The absolute WORST apartments I’ve ever lived in. They take forever to attend to things that are broken/need fixed and when they do it, it’s only a temporary fix and will be calling them for the same problem again weeks or month later. Maria is the worst manager and only cares about getting money and not attending to tenants. They don’t know anything that’s going on in the office and don’t keep track of what you’re paying a month in rent and will send you a letter that you owe them money or will be evicted “by accident”. They are constantly trying to make sure you are doing your job as a tenant but do not care to do their job. All Maria wants is your money and does not care about the tenants happiness and taking care of them. There is constantly mold, bugs, drawers/cabinets falling apart, ceilings leaking, refrigerator problems, laundry mat problems, pool problems, homeless people sleeping in laundry mat, walls so thin you can hear everything, management/maintenance will go into your apartment while gone without notice, etc. They are cheap for a reason and you get what you pay for. I would highly recommend staying far away from Charleston Apartments!
I was interested in the smallest 1bedroom available that was shown on the website. The website didnt show a price so I emailed the business asking specifically for the price of the floorplan. The email I received back was a copy and paste response with a link to the same webpage I saw online that didnt include the unit price. I recieved another email announcing a 1bedroom unit would be available soon, and if I wanted to take a tour. No! I want a price! Seems like whoever gets these emails cant read. Rated 1 star for not even paying attention.
The new renovations are looking awesome at Charlestons! The inside of the apartments have been re-done and look fabulous! The management are very professional and can help you with any questions you may have. Ask for Jennifer, she will point you in the right direction!
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!They are shady & do not care about their residents. You can find a place ALOT better than here.
Office staff does its best and tries to keep in touch, they are hindered by lack of reliable help, the pest control guy is very professional and polite, as are carpet and ac services but maintenance is lacking and the handy man is condescending or at least lacks social skills and half the time has an excuse to not fix something or when he does leaves a big mess. Office moved to other side of the very busy Lindsey St and its a pain to get to, area has its share of cop runs and late night disturbances but the rent is cheap so its expected....
We have had AC condensate water leak damage on the living room ceiling for two months, after multiple promises to repair they have only been back twice, they installed sheetrock, tapped and bedded, but no texture or paint, (they claim maintenance guy has been on vacation, as to why repair have not been completed,Which lead to a second set of damage, and they haven’t even repaired the first one before we had another incident .There is a water leak damage from the upstairs shower that came apparent today as water poured out of the living room light fixture. They came over and attempted to vacuum up the water, but left water on the floor. When we asked the maintenance staff when the repair would be done, they said “well, you have two showers in there.... so y’all can use one shower til we get it fixed. When asked when that would be, they responded they didn’t know....TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE..This is a SLUM LORD PROPERTY!!!!!Renters BEWARE!!!!!
Under total renovation, the apartments are a getting a much needed update and look sleek and modern.
I donot recommend anybody. Apartment is not safe because management is giving away rent without proper background check.. A lot of residents are picked up by cops on day life.
They recently changed the whole office workers, and their management got worse. My new room was not ready by the time when I was supposed to get in, and I waited for more than 3 months. So I was staying in the different apartment until it is ready, and had to switch to the new one, which costs some money. I asked for a compensation because this whole moving thing happened because of them, not me. Then, the guy in the office said If you dont want to move to new one, thats fine. It does not hurt us. It is rude.
Nice apartments, very spacious floorplans. awesome pool. Free water
Great place easily accessible as long as lindsey doesnt have 2 much construction
I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment from 2016-2017. I DO NOT recommend renting from Dowell Properties, especially if you need to save money!Pros:--good sized apartment (850 sq ft 1 bedroom)-lots of storage (2 walk in closets, 2 smaller closets, loads of cabinets)-amenities are ok (2 pools, small laundromat)-good location-low cost compared to other apartments in the area-office open for limited hours on SaturdayCons:-maintenance is TERRIBLE-management is terrible-lots of bugs (thousands of roaches, spiders, bedbugs)-old apartments-stuff breaks (both in individual apartments and common areas like the laundromat) often and it takes 3 weeks+ to get fixed-weird mold (orange and black)-poorly insulated windows and doors mean high heat/utilities cost-there are people who walk around stealing packages and rummaging through dumpsters every single morningIn the 1 year that I lived at Charleston Apartments, the following things broke down: the stove/oven (2 weeks to fix), the heater (2 weeks to fix), the communal laundry room (on 2 or 3 separate occasions, between 2 and 4 weeks to fix each time), the fridge & freezer (3 times: 2 weeks to fix the first time, 1 week the second, 5 weeks the 3rd), the shower (2 weeks to fix), the main pool (closed for like a month). Each time, we would promptly file a work order with the office, it would take a few days (and follow up calls) to get someone out to look at it, then theyd say yep, its broken and not fix it for at least a week. Several times, they had the part but just didnt come out to install it. Once, they refused to purchase the part (for the refrigerator) AND refused to replace the fridge because we already used all our maintenance budget for this month. The amount of money we spent because of these maintenance problems (mostly on food, its expensive when you cant cook and/or all your food spoils from the fridge going out) totalled over $300 just in March. Management absolutely refused to give us a discount on our rent (they offered a partial discount once, then took it away 3 weeks later and marked our rent past due, complete with threats of taking us to small claims court). In retrospect, we could have saved money by choosing a more expensive complex with decent management. There were other problems as well, like people digging through dumpsters making a mess, stealing packages off your doorstop, roaches (sooooo many roaches and no exterminators), bedbugs (not in our apartment, but there was a mattress by the dumpster with so many bedbugs on it the surface looked like it was moving. So some of the apartments are definitely infested), perpetual office staff turnover, graffiti, floors, ceilings, and walls so think you can listen to all the conversations/tv/sex of your neighbors, and garbage strewn all over the place outside. However, the maintenance problem was such a huge issue that these felt more like minor annoyances.
The apartment was nice at first but when you need something fixed or have problems with your apartment, the managers say they will get it fixed as soon as possible but my problem hasnt been fixed for 2 months now. Shows how much they care for their tenants.
Worst apartments ever! Walls are very thin can here everything! They don’t care about their residents only the rent payment!Cannot wait until my lease is up I am moving out!
Great price for how large the apartments are and the staff is very friendly
They never pick up tree limbs when they do yard work. This is so annoying. Trying to climb through broken limbs getting to your apartment. Especially when you have you hands full of groceries. Ect ....
Took them 2 months to fix my sink my move in date was July 5th the room was not ready until 2 weeks after that please dont ever move here PLEASE save ur time and money
Like new management but they are to worried about what renters are doing and on on the roaches, and the stuff that is fixed half assed (washers, dryers, siding, carpets, air conditioner, electronical, and plugging and more)
The leasing office staff needs to be more attentive to tenants & their problems. Move-in check list was filled with issues & we were told theyd be resolved. They have yet to fix them. Very disappointing.
Jennifer takes the time to go above and beyond for her tenants !
I dont recommend it. Look somewhere else.
Horrible and uncomfortable place to live
Very bad I wanted to apply and they didnt want to give me the doubt of doubtThey didnt want to check my credit or anythingJust for the papersAnd what counts is the credit and your job to payThey are RACIST😡😡
