For a premium gym, most of the cardio equipment has at least one thing that doesn’t work about it (often it’s a fundamental reason, not just the audio or Bluetooth that doesn’t work)The “club” music being broadcast is so loud you can’t hear your own music when using headphones. I go around 630am each morningJust about everyone sits on their phones between sets, locking them up. The only employees I ever see are the personal trainers and if you ask for anything from the front desk, they always refer you to call a manager laterThis was a good gym before it became super corporate. There’s better value out there in the area

Very disappointed. Used to be a member before NYSC bought them out. Now they are tmpl again and it’s definitely the same as when nysc took over. They used to have multiple products available in the locker room giant fluffy towels and Oribe products. Now it’s just cheap economy generic soap. Old scratchy small towels. Equipment that is breaking down the HVAC is barely working and there’s no juice bar anymore. Will be cancelling. I recommend crunch fitness or even planet fitness because you’ll save money and this is not the boutique luxury gym they market themselves as.

This is a gym center that is charging premium rates, without premium pleasantries and administrations. For a considerable length of time, the rec center has had heated water issues. Ordinarily, it doesnt work by any stretch of the imagination. Be that as it may, when it does, it can get reproving. Of course, I comprehend structures are old, boilers break, and support can be troublesome. So, its been a long time since the exercise center has given sufficient boiling water. As opposed to reacting quickly by fixing the issue, the executives and initiative accept that putting a sign, and sending messages to its individuals requesting understanding will take care of the issue.

I had the pleasure of having my membership sponsored at TMPL Gym because of my Oprah magazine cover. The goal was to get to my ideal weight. They had the InBody program and I met with the owners. They had a nutritionist Danielle, excellent trainers Rob Hrapchak, Marcella Mello and many wonderful staff members. One of my favorites was the pool classes. I took one fitness class that was great too. The equipment was top notch. Since I went during working hours I didn’t have issues with over crowding but I had seen how busy it could get on a visit later in the day. I would always get protein chocolate vegan smoothies from the cafe which were tasty. The members reflected the area, so it was a lot of men weight lifting. When I saw a woman it was like HEEYY. I would go back to TMPL if I could simply because of the relationship I built, not because I felt like I found a community. Keep in mind this view reflects my experience from 2016 so I don’t know what changes have been made since.

Shout out to the management staff at TMPL Hell’s Kitchen location for their honorable customer support. In April 2021, I realized that my checking account was charged sporadically on various occasions by TMPL, from September 2020 through April 2021.Upon reaching out to request a refund of the multiple charges and immediate cancellation of the membership that I neither requested, utilized or was informed of, TMPL promptly responded. TMPL informed me that all NYSC Time Square memberships were transferred to TMPL Elite Hell Kitchen location and that was the reason for the charges. Upon informing TMPL that I actually canceled my NYSC subscription in June 2020 and provided them documentation, they gladly obliged to send my refund.Addressing the matter was surprisingly pleasant, especially given all the horror stories I read online with folks requesting refunds from NYSC.

The gym itself it quite nice, but this review is in regards to Tmpls policies, communication style, and Management.Initially, issues arose during the beginning of the Pandemic. Tmpl continued to charge members their full monthly rates although the gym was closed Feb/March. They did not respond to phone calls, emails, etc. So that was the first red flag. Now that gyms are reopened, Tmpl is still charging full price for their membership, although none of the amenities are available. No Sauna. No pool. No Showers. etc. Theyve been saying for the past couple of months these amenities will open soon, but still nothing. It appears they are trying to provide the lowest amount of services (to keep costs down, Im sure) and still charging full membership rates. Seems silly! CRUNCH, EQUINOX, etc. have their showers/pool open, so theres no COVID restriction excuse that can be used. Now, Tmpl has raised monthly rates without communicating this raise to members. Which seems extremely sketchy.Communication from Management is terrible as well....hours shift without notice. Gym is closed without notice of when it will reopen, etc. A simple push notification from the Mobile App would be nice, or a text to members. Its the very least that can be done

TMPL was a superb gym before NYSC bought it. Maintenance of the gym deteriorated, shower products were changed, the juice bar options completely changed, the interior design changed, and it lost the David Barton charm. David Barton created a truly unique and elegant gym to envy all other gyms, with top of the line equipment, elite body-building trainers, the best spinning room in the city, and friendly welcoming staff. I ended my membership shortly after NYSC took over because they implemented so many changes that didnt improve a thing. The changes deteriorated a once beautiful place to work out. Please revive TMPL back to its original elegance, design, cleanliness, super friendly staff, and for petes sake, bring back the original juice bar menu.

DO NOT SIGN UP! THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!I signed up at TMPL shortly after coming to NYC at the end of February. They had a good deal at that time so I rushed into signing up, but after actually working out there I realized that I didn’t really feel comfortable. So 1 week later I called up Jane to cancel my membership (I was given a 10 day trial period during which I could cancel at no cost) and she confirmed the cancellation over the phone (it took me a couple of calls to finally get Jane on the phone, emails were left unanswered). The issue is that they’ve been charging my account with the monthly membership fee ever since. Jane never or rarely replies to emails and when I try to call (from overseas), front desk tells me Jane is with a customer. I was also told that manager Patti would get in touch with me, but I’ve never heard from her. My bank is now trying to get the money back, if unsuccessful they will bring a lawyer in.I’m usually not a person to post an opinion online, but I’ve never had to deal with a company that showed such a lack of cooperation and honesty. Customer service is definitely on the bottom end of their list of priorities. Mistakes happen, but this is far from being one and I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else.So for anyone looking for a great gym, I highly recommend Chelsea Piers Fitness! It is slightly more expensive but I’ve never been to a gym with such a variety of equipment and the atmosphere is always great.

The cost of the membership versus the reliability of this gym are not equal. For a dozen different reasons, they’re frequently without hot (and sometimes cold) water and the accessibility of the pool is pretty hit or miss: today is the twentieth time I’ve had to miss a workout because the pool is closed (without prior notice) or because — mid-swim — they’ve kicked everyone out due to lack of staff. It’s not conducive to a consistent training schedule. My emails to management have consistently gone unanswered. Go join Equinox instead.

I was told that I could cancel before the start date and no fee would be charged. I sent an email and called before the membership started and was told by a membership advisor Jane Nielsen in November of 2018 that the $75 fee would refunded asap. The fee was never refunded and they continued to debit me $150 for two months following. Ive sent multiple follow up emails since then and keep getting told that the fee will be refunded in a few days and was recently added into an email with a manager Kevin Kavanaugh who just never responded. I’ve been a member of Les Mills in New Zealand for the past year and moved back to NY and joined this gym. They seem to be trying to align themselves with the likes of gyms like Les Mills but they don’t come close and I regret my decision to join. Their customer service is subpar to say the least. While they’re super attentive prior to you signing up, once they have your card number it’s a struggle to get anyone to answer any questions you have. It took me two months… TWO for them to respond about a question with my account. I called in, asked at the front desk, asked a sales person… I was always directed to someone else or told someone would get back to me but they never did. I literally had to wait in the lobby until I happened to see the correct person pass by.That doesn’t include the under maintenance situation at TMPL. Something is always broken! This week I’ve gone to take spin class three times and all three times after coming across town I arrive to a sign on the desk that says class is canceled. This particular class is the main reason I signed up. You would think that if you’re canceling a class you’d email customers and let them know. After the second day of cancellation I asked if there would be class the following day and was told yes, only to arrive and see it was canceled yet again. That’s poor customer service at is finest. Let’s not forget the weeks without air conditioning in the locker room. Then there’s the occasional times that the speakers are broken in the spin room or the ac is out. Mind you I’ve only been a member 4 months.Smile and stall is their tactic. They’re super friendly and will smile and give whatever excuse they have the moment to why someone isn’t available or why something is canceled. It’s annoying. While the gym itself is beautiful and the classes seem decent, it’s simply not worth the trouble for $160 a month. Spend an extra 40 bucks and go to Equinox. That’ll be my next move.

The shampoo and body products are not the brand that is labeled on the dispensers.Coming in at merely the same price (actually more) than one Equinox location I would highly reccomend going there. I signed up and was offered a promotion that was not honored. I attempted to call the front desk and emailed the manager who managed to answer me after 6 days and then no reply after two weeks of attempting to get in contact for being wrongfully charged. I was signed up over the phone and no one made me aware of the cancellation policy. Town Sports International is no competition and there is NO CUSTOMER service in this place. As most of the other reviewers have noted, things started going downhill after it got acquired. I have worked out in NYSC before and I could appreciate the references that some of the members have noted. The facilities are ill-maintained and we get regular email updates that certain areas (i.e. Pool, hot water) are under maintenance. That is not how a gym should be run. David should know better. Also, the management is terrible. After cancelling my membership and attempting to get a refund (I did the prepayment plan), the accounting team/management is giving me the go-around move and pushing the blame onto the new system. It has been a month plus. That is no way to treat anyone let alone an ex-customer.

My friend and I were curious. We toured the gym. Its underground, no windows, very dark, and not worth joining. We got a very awkward weird vibe from the members and staff. It was like Lets hurry up and get the hell out asap. The womens locker room was nasty. The gym floors smelled like mold. Their membership advisor said they experienced multiple massive floodings throughout the entire gym. Umm isnt that why it stinks and a health risk?? Overall its one step up from NYSC. If youre cheap, join Blink Fitness or Planet Fitness. If you can afford it, join Equinox.

All gyms have cancellation policies. You give notice and either you give 30/45/60 days notice. These facilities cost a lot of money to open, maintain, staff, etc. if you are committed to your fitness journey, the money is simply an incentive to go more often. The contract you sign with renting an apt.... break that and see if your deposit and two months rent AT LEAST is forfeited, more than likely you’re on the hook for the entire lease you agreed to. Join the $10 gym with pizza parties if you want. The money you pay for fitness is money not going to medical bills later- preventative healthcare! Btw get records of twice a week visits to your gym, your insurance (most) pay you back for a lot of it!!

I’ve been a member here for almost two years, and for the most part, I haven’t had any issues. Sure, the soap in the showers isn’t Oribe, and yes, the towel quality has gone downhill, the machines break more often, and the A/C and WiFi are broken more often than they aren’t. And yes, it’s another David Barton gym that has only lost money, and now it’s owned by NYSC.All of that is manageable, because by and large, I’m able to drop weights in leg area, make a lot of noise, and it’s been no problem - I even asked if that was ok when I signed up. After all, this is a gym, right? Well apparently that policy has been changed - because David Barton himself told me to tone it down. Olympic lifting? That’s a no no, that’s too loud (oh, and there aren’t any bumper plates, either). If you’re looking to be seen, and not really use a gym for it’s purpose, this is the place for you. If you need to actually lift, this not the gym for you.
