Fantastic class and awesome coach, Max! The staff and coach were extremely attentive and diligent about everyone having a positive experience. Very challenging workout (endurance day), but walked out feeling very accomplished and proud.
This is a great studio- the front staff is incredibly nice, the coaches are great, and the studio is clean! One of the best studios in NYC.
I’m a transfer from a south Florida studio. The entire staff has been very welcoming, feels like a second home in a new city. I love OTF!!!
I used to go to OTF in SF and it was a much better experience. The instructors were more inspiring and involved and the music was much better. The 39th ST location’s classes have bad music. Please stop playing teeny bopper music and play real workout music like Peloton, Barry’s and SoulCycle. Please play more hip hop - not Taylor, Madonna and Beyoncé.
This studio and program was INCREDIBLE with amazing instructors that learned everyones names after the first time they took their class. It created a kind of family. The facility was spotless and the actual classes were the perfect ways to get into shape, while also having fun! HIGHLY recommend becoming a member!
Motivating and friendly staff that made my first class with Orangetheory Fitness a great one!Appreciate the way they go over the concept of the workout beforehand, teach you the proper techniques during the class and also review your results after the class. The summary email of your workout is also an added bonus. The place is clean and has showers. After my first class, I felt great even the next day. Signed up for a membership and would encourage others to do the same if you’re looking for something new, high energy and high intensity that allows you to adjust to your fitness level. You do have to purchase their heart rate monitor for $109 to be able to see your progress on the screen during the workout. There is an option to rent. The memberships are month to month and I’ve noticed the 6:15 pm classes tend to be full so you’ll need to book ASAP!
Good workout, not long enough, should be a full hour, falls short at 45 minutes.Expensive.
High energy, motivating, fun!! You can customize the workout to your fitness level by slowing down or using less weight and still be part of the fun. I am 58 years old and in good (not great) shape and I love it. I have reversed many of my typical age related medical issues by working out at OTF.
Alex is the Best
Orangetheory East 39th street is the best. Every team member from the coaches, manager, front desk attendants are incredibly friendly to everyone who walk in the door. They truly try to make the hour you workout to be the best hour of your day (and they succeed). I really can’t say enough good things about this place, but Ill leave this review with- it has changed my life for the better.
I was a member for almost 2 years. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I love the coaches, and their vibe. Would definitely recommend when looking for a workout class.
Its always different. I never know what to expect. I always feel like a badass once Im done. The coaches are all incredible!
I loved the energy during the class. I felt so motivated and full of energy and I love this feeling of accomplishment!
I was hesitating between giving it a 3 or 4 stars, but went for 4, as this schizophrenic workout and fake science is personally not for me. But the trainers and facilities are excellent. So more in detail now:The pros: clean gym with excellent equipment. Most of the trainers I took class with were high energy and were really motivating. Music was great. You get free towels, there are 3 toilettes and 4 showers to change, though can get quite busy in peak hours. Overall it is a good HIIT. I definitely sweat and burnt calories. The gamification of the workout can be motivating as well. The cons: I know they say the workout is driven by science, but I feel it is driven by profit and how many people can you squeeze in a class. The workout is split into 2 parts: 1 - treadmills and 2 - rowers / plyometrics and weights. My problem is that you do not do anything right. The rowing part is a sad joke. I have not seen such bad rowing technique and am questioning whats the point of including it there. The treadmills are treadmills. They never excited me. The whole run one minute and increase your speed for the next minute type of exercise makes me so bored I start to do my to do list for the next day. The floor exercise is fine and probably the only decent part. The problem is that the trainer is juggling in between the two parts and cannot correct or explain anything sufficiently. Also the whole monitor thing I feel is a scam. On the screen I saw people burning 900+ calories in a class, which I am sorry, but sure.. .it is far away from the most intensive classes Ive taken and I barely burn 700 in other classes. Outside of the trainers (great), the rest of the staff is bored and apathetic, but that doesnt matter. So overall, I bought a 10 pack of classes and hate the workout. Trainers are great and if this workout makes sense for you, go ahead.if I would compare it, would be similar idea to Rumble and Barrys. For me, there will be no 11th class.
Everyone was so friendly and extremely helpful! It made for a really fun workout in a really inclusive environment.
Absolutely love these workouts. Such a wonderful experience. 10/10
My home studio is awesome! The format is challenging and very rewarding. The coaches are caring and amazing! For example, coach Alex is very encouraging and complements me on how much Ive improved since starting OTF. In fact, he gave me the skills to help me move from a walker to a jogger, which Ive also been using to inch closer to runner. Also, when I tweeked a muscle in my hip he came over to make sure I was alright and gave me pointers on how to stretch it out. Coach Hancock is also wonderful as well and has also given me pointers on additional stretching to make sure Im taking good care of myself. Hancock also gives great motivational peptalk at the end of class. Very caring!Cant thank them and OTF enough for #morelife!
The staff and coaches at E39 have gotten me excited about my fitness journey. I feel a part of a community that cares about us and I always look forward to going to the gym (says no one ever haha) That’s OTF. For those of us that show up to work hard and be our best, strongest selves inside and out, it’s fun and meaningful.
Alex and Lauren are FABULOUS coaches! Their workouts are very thorough and challenging. They are ALWAYS down to stay a few minutes after class to answer my questions about running or my stats, etc. Truly quality coaches and individuals. The staff at E 39th are also awesome - so friendly and accommodating. Ive only been going for a month or two so I havent had a chance to create a community per se of folks who I like going to class with - the staff are the reason why I am starting to feel that sense of community at the studio. Shout out to Maddie, Barrington and Kayla - such rock stars.
Love OFT. Its like a meal prep kit for workouts. All the ingredients, all the instructions. Just show up and do it and get the results. ONLY issue keeping me from 5 stars is the instructors body shaming: Oh you ate so much yesterda,y better burn it off today, or Know youre gonna party this weekend! Better burn calories! That kind of eye-rolling talk ... so destructive to achievement and personal development -- its just evil! -- but the workouts really work for fitness.
I am a runner but find it hard to work in other training (bc Im lazy by myself) so this workout is great in that it combines what I like to do for exercise as well as weight training and other forms of cardio/endurance/strength training.
Im writing this review so late because I finally feel comfortable enough to talk about this.In August of 2018, I took my third class at Orange Theory. I was just getting back into working out after an injury and started getting back into working out, and Orange Theory seemed perfect and was on my way home from work. I paid to borrow their heart rate monitors for 2 of my classes: one for the chest and one on the arm. Both times, the heart rate monitor turned off 3 minutes into class and took me off the board. The first time I talked to an employee and they said the armband wasnt charged so the battery died midclass. He was kind and apologetic. The second time, however, the chest monitor stopped working early on as well, so I went to an employee to tell her about it after class. She (a blonde, white, slim woman) checked the band and said I must have been mistaken about it not working, I replied that all I knew is that there was no heart rate registering on the board next to my name. She then explained to me that these heart rate bands typically dont work on fat or large people, and it was due to my excessive weight it didnt work. I was shocked and so deeply hurt. Not to say that Im skinny as a stick, but I am a varsity collegiate athlete. I train 3 hours a day, six days a week, all academic year round. I wouldnt say I was as fat as she explained to me that I was. I have used many cheat heartrate monitors independently and I have never had a problem.I am disgusted by the words said to me by this Orange Theory employee. I ensure you I will never go back to any Orange Theory branch. I will never recommend Orange Theory to anyone, and I will shout this story to the rooftops. It is unjust, wrong, and hurtful. To call a customer too large and too fat to participate in your gym/workout class is unforgivable and unreal. Each time I see an Orange Theory commercial, I feel sick. This experience hurt and embarrassed me more than I can express, especially because it was witnessed by the entire class and the athletes waiting to enter the following workout.I wish I could get all of my money back. I wish I never even tried Orange Theory. I wish that this employee or any other at Orange Theory understands how reprimandable it is to call someone too fat and too large at a gym priding itself on providing a healthy workout. I dearly hope this will never happen to any other patron.Shame on you. Shame on this whole branch. I was and continue to be hurt and disgusted.
Great OTF studio. Very nice employees. The class was great, coach Phil was excelent. We were visiting from Miami, great experience! We will go again next time we are in NYC!
This OTF is a disgrace to the brand. I gave this location MULTIPLE opportunities to make a situation right and they chose not to do ANYTHING except never return phone calls. I have an unlimited monthly membership and have gone to studios all over the US with no problem. I went to this gym and signed the form.Walking into the class, the desk person asked to see me afterwards. I figured she couldnt find my home gym info. I went back up after the class and the assistant manager told me I needed to pay $20. I told him if I had known before I would have worked out at the hotel gym. He said thats the way we do things here. I asked to speak with a manager, but there was not one there. He said he would have her give me a call. One week later after never receiving a phone call, I called again. Same guy told me someone would reach out. 4 days later, never heard anything so I called again. They transferred me through to a manager who pretty much said she would not do anything and the staff probably forgot to mention it even though they had plenty of time to remember as I filled out the standard intake form.Seriously, such a disgrace this gym is affiliated with OTF. I love the gyms but feel so angry. I pay over $160 for a monthly fee and this gym hid fees until it was too late to change my mind. Horrible business practices and customer service.
I like that classes are led by a coach who encourages you to push yourself without using intimidation as a motivator
The absolute worst costumer service experience Ive ever had !! I almost never write reviews, but felt I needed to write one for this situation.I, an OT member, went to a class at this location (its not my home studio) on my birthday with my sister (who is not a member). Two days later, we were charged $55 without any type of warning. OT advertises that your membership is valid at any of their locations without additional charges and that first timers may take a class free of charge. So when I saw the charges, I called and spoke to the studio manager, Renata, to ask her what the charges were about thinking there was some type of confusion. She proceeded to tell me that the Manhattan location does things differently and that I should of known that I would get charged regardless of if someone told me or not. HOW was I supposed to know of charges in advance if the website says absolutely NOTHING about additional fees and no one had told me when I booked the class over the phone, before we took the class that morning, or even after we took the class ? There were 3 opportunities for someone to tell us we were getting charged, yet no body ever did.I asked her for the corporate number. At first she said she didnt have one. I expressed how weird it was for her not to have corporates number considering shes a studio manager. Then, she said she was too busy to give it to me at that moment. When I offered for her to call me back with the info (since Orange Theory does not have their corporate number nor email on their website), she said theres no reason for her to call corporate since she would add a complimentary class to my account. After I told her I did not care to have the comp class and just wanted corporates number, she said verbatim, Find it elsewhere because Im not giving you the number. BYE and hung up on me.My issue is not that I Iost $55 by any means. My issue is that a company cannot:1. charge you without telling you ahead of time2. then dismiss you when you kindly confront them about it.Ive been charged for other things randomly before by OT but since they were much smaller charges, I never cared enough to call and inquire about them. The shadiest company Ive ever dealt with, honestly. And Renata has no sense of customer service experience whatsoever.
Amazing coaches, great energy, and noticeable results.
It is complete! The coaches are amazing (especially Head Coach Lauren at OTF E39 in NYC); no one makes you feel inferior or that you dont belong. They push you but not to the brink. They push you to what they see you are capable of. Also, no two days are the same; it is constantly being switched up! The staff at my particular OTF are also amazing, professional, kind and fun. #LOVEOTF
I love coming into the studio wondering how will I be challenged today?
My favorite OTF location - great facilities and even better coaching
This is the best gym with the best staff and best workouts in the city.
The OTF method helps educate me on how to incorporate my breathing with my running and illustrated that I need to prioritize rests to prevent fatigue and over-exertion.
Excellent trainers and beautiful facility!
Best workout in the market! All out for OTF!!!
Love this place. Great staff, fun workouts.
Hard workout, and Lauren is a great coach!
Fantastic morning work out!
Killer workout and fun!
So special and cool.
This place hopefully does not deserve a bad review but they charged me and have not refunded me weeks later. Maybe this is common with this place?
Terrible construction jackhammering noise during the night from 10pm to 6am.
It does a great job ...
