Don’t usually write reviews. Was really disappointed today after signing up for the gym a few days ago and arriving for my first class - a boxing class - and not being allowed to take part because they had no gloves. This was despite double and triple checking if I would need to bring anything and being told that I would not. Really poor and a waste of my time!
Huge, very well-maintained gym with everything you could want or need. Its always clean, and the classes are great. Yes, its a bit more expensive than the regular Equinox membership, but if you live in the area its a huge step up from the West 76th street location.
They have all the amenities you would want in a gym. The track on the rooftop is a bonus though. When the weather is nice, its nice to go for a run on the track. When this pandemic is over, if you can go there, everything with the amenities will be available. I never have a problem with the crowds there and whatever I want to do there is always available. No waiting around.
We absolutely love this location. Their showers/locker rooms are the best we’ve experienced so far. The staff is amazing as well. Kevin specifically was the reason we were sold on this location rather than the closer locations to home. Only complaint I have is about one particular employee, the lady manager (I believe), she can be a little rude and condescending.
Awful and scary. Manager is a sadist and Will side with a bully on a power trip. Avoid this place
They make you leave the training area 15 minutes before the gym closes. I always see kids there - 16-17 years old, I guess they are the emploees children going for free. Lots of very rude seniors. This gym is a good example of how bigger isnt always better. Very inefficient use of space. Only a few weight benches for the entire gym and not enough light weights such as 10, 12.5, and 15. Relatively old equipment. No fans in the group fitness so it gets hot. This location is in need of a renovation.
They used to be great a few years ago, but now they are terrible and alienating a large portion of their customers.Do not waste your money!
Amazing gym, 5 star service.
Best gym in NYC for the price (~$240/month + sign up). If you live on UWS, must join. Locals complain that previous management (Reebok Sports Club) was better, but they are spoiled. Highlights: indoor pool, outdoor track, rock climbing wall, steam room, best locker rooms in the game, & as an added bonus, renovated lounge is a great place to get work done. Pro tip: on 3rd floor, walk towards the Ladies Executive locker room and make a left - second weight room is a gem, with ultra high end equipment I havent seen at many other gyms.
I work hear,The club is great. It have alot to offer to the members.
Excellent Facility!!Equinox Sports Club is centrally located off Columbus Avenue. The club offers a variety of amenities for healthy living and exercise.
I am an existing member and thought about upgrading to this location. Was told that that iI would need to pay a one-time “upgrade fee” of 250 USD. Felt like this was just made up. Never heard from such a fee from other gyms.
Best gym (spa) I ever worked out in. Staff if awesome. Its several floors and they are always cleaning them and the machines. There is an outdoor running track (I believe it is 1/6 of a mile around) and a sun deck for relaxing in the summer. Great cafeteria with juices and healthy lunches. Been coming to this location for four years. Currently closed for quarantine but I cannot wait to get back there. Worth every dollar.
Equinox Sports Club is great. Staff was helpful The trainer was friendly.
Great facilities and mostly friendly staff, but keep an eye on your belongings. I am a new member and on my first two visits at the club within a week my wallet and cellphone were stolen - on separate occasions. Upon complaining at the front desk that my wallet had disappeared in the club I was told OK. Then I spoke to several people who were a bit more sympathetic, but unfortunately neither wallet nor phone were recovered. For context, I had never had a personal item stolen in NYC before, I have lived here for 7 years. Not sure if this is a new problem given the current crisis or an existing one, but needs to be addressed.
Dont support this place, they are vaccine pushers.
The best in New York City. Service is reduced under COVID, but it will be great again soon.
Robbery in the changing room lockers. The staff gets angry when is closing time and rush people to leave the premise. This place is overpriced and overrated.
Spacious Gym, Friendly Staff, Great Service
I’m rating this club 1 star because of the difference between the club’s ’premium’ self-presentation and the quality it provides. Overall it’s surely a decent gym, large facility, new equipment, etc. But what should make a great gym is the quality of trainers. Equinox instead pours all money in the facility. A number of trainers and instructors at this gym are far from the top, majority are pretty mediocre. My assigned PT was not able to offer any comprehensive workout strategy for me, let alone show how to use any of the equipment. Cycling class was just plain cycling for 45 minutes with music: no intervals, no changes of resistance levels, no new skills or training techniques from the instructor... And I can go on. The club app doesn’t have functionality to rate the instructors and leave feedback. Very few instructors have a bio available. We do not even know if they are top professionals in their sport, or just people equinox hired from the street. The class variety is limited, classes are overcrowded. It feels like equinox is cashing out. Big dislike.
Clean spacious never crowded
This is the most beautiful gym I’ve ever seen - with a price tag to match. To justify, I just go more, gotta take advantage of their abundant class offerings from yoga to spin to anything else that I’m curious about. There’s a work space and lounge area with all sorts of reasonably priced healthy foods and drinks. Theres a track, a sun area, a pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, rock wall! I slather on my money’s worth in kiehls cause why not. Oh and eucalyptus mint towels. Oh man. I’m in love with this gym. The only con of this large, multilevel space is trying to find what you’re looking for. The yoga studio is at the far end of the lounge. Takes a few trips of exploration to get the lay of the land.
This is my favorite Equinox location so far but I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because they keep the temperature weirdly warm at this location. People are getting hot and sweaty! Turn it down a bit! Plus you have the sunlight streaming through the windows, so I feel like this club would be so much better if they brought the temp down a bit. That said, the locker rooms/sauna/pool makes this location feel like a spa and the cafe is very spacious. Just fix the temp!
Waste of time. Went for tour yesterday and gym looked okay. Mostly wanted to join for the pool which they kept warm and the room was also warm/humid- not impressed. Said it was salt water but smelled heavy of chlorine. The equipment looked nice but it was kinda confusing how much Id actually get out of the membership. I told them that I would like a day to think about it. They asked for my credit card number so they could hold my reservation. Before I even left, they charged my card over $400. When I questioned them, they denied it. I had to spend an hour calling my bank, missing my later dentist appointment. Equinox claimed the transaction was a 1 in a million accidental malfunction of their system which linked to another persons account and that they couldnt delete or cancel it. I feel like it was a scam. A good business would have offered me a week of free membership for my tribulations. They just said they were sorry and that the transaction will fall off today, which it has not. Ill wait until tomorrow, hopefully I wont have to file a formal dispute.**They contacted me on Monday through email and asked me to send a screen shot of my bank statement on my phone. When I told them that Chase Bank doesnt allow screen shots for privacy reasons, they asked me to take a photo of it from my computer!!The charge finally fell off on Tuesday. Good thing I didnt need that money for anything before then...
Everything is always kept clean. 24/7 access is a plus so I can go any time I choose.
Before I even get to the place I have a pretty embarrassing experience...for equinox of course. I waited 10 minutes with minimal information to be transferred to an incredibly rude “membership advisor.” I called to ask for membership information. I expressed that I live on the Upper West Side and wanted a gym with a pool. The “membership advisor” would not offer pricing information or a trial. He then said “he won’t apologize that equinox isn’t for everyone” and asked me if I gave free trials at the gym that I own. I mentioned that I owned a gym. He hung up the phone after repeating that “equinox isn’t for everyone” and it’s “a private gym” before I could ask again for membership pricing or agree to come visit a location. I am honestly dumbfounded at how terrible of a sales call it was, on a professional level as much as a personal one. To be clear, I didn’t ask for a free trial. I just said that I wanted to try it before committing to a membership. Is this how it always works?
I have been an all access Equinox member since there were only 2 locations in the country, back in the early 2000s. I have had various memberships, some corporate, personal, etc...I called the Equinox Sports Club NYC in summer to see if I could have a day guest pass to try the pool. I specifically said I want to only swim and not use the gym. I normally go to the Columbus Circle or Greenwich Ave pools but a friend told me that the pool here was great. When I called I was told that I could try the pool for a day for a $70 fee.WHAT? How do you expect me to join and pay a premium over and above the all access fee when you wont even let me try the pool one time?I spoke to management and they reduced the fee from $70 to $35, seriously? Forget it. Your exclusivity is not that exclusive. You are a GYM, nothing more.In my travels to Southern California, which are about 4 times a year, I called the Sports Club in Westwood and was told to come in and that they will give me a free day pass. When I arrived, they were SO nice, they gave me a tour and said anytime I am back in CA to call in advance and they will have my guest pass waiting, FREE OF CHARGE!!NYC Sports Club guess what? you have zero sense of client service or business acumen. You would actually make tons more money if you used your brains and gave long standing equinox members a single day pass to check out the club. I was ready to pay the premium over the summer and so were 2 of my friends that were planning to join. Luckily for them, I steered them away from your club and toward other Equinox clubs:) Happy Holidays!!!
Attention Charlie Linville (mgr)- just called the gym to find out that after the pool being closed for a week for cleaning, a kid just pooped in the pool and now its closed for another few hours. Why on earth does it make sense to continue family time when these things happen (Im sure on a regular basis) and your ADULT PAYING MEMBERS who spend $300 a month and dont defecate in the pool dont take priority?!?! Unreal. Please tell me, what will it take to make a change and make things better for your PAYING MEMBERS?!?!!!?!!?!
Great experience. I had heard good things, but exceeded expectations. Very large, very friendly staff. 6 stories, so even in busiest times not too busy.Massive change rooms
I recently quit this gym to save a little green and workout outside during the warmer months. I was a member for 5 years prior to quitting. When I first upgraded to go to the sports club, it still was basically the old Reebok, with carpet all over and older everything. I was so excited and put up with all the renovations, but after, the club changed. It used to be so quiet and nice. Now I find most people there annoying. The cleaning staff and the cafe staff are still great. Although they did try a different cafe thing for like a month and it failed spectacularly. The only thing I’ll miss is the pool, but even that they were starting to screw up by trying to implement new rules.
Instructors are very qualified and caring. The space is very well ventilated and therefore very comfortable. The facilities are also decent and modern!
Theres good reasons why recent reviews of this location skew negative: 1. Customer service is terrible, 2. The gym experience gets worse every week, 3. Dues are high and continue to rise.Heres some examples: On a recent busy Saturday, 4 mens bathrooms were out of order or under construction, leaving only two functioning mens toilets in a 6 floor facility. Two times in the past two weeks, Ive used the equinox app to reserve a bike in a spin class, only to show up and find that someone had already taken my bike. The locker rooms have signs telling members not to use cell phones in the private areas, but members continue to do so, and staff does nothing to help enforce the policies.Me and many other members have brought up these and similar complaints with Equinox staff at this location, but the staff is dismissive, rude, and unsupportive. Had staff addressed these complaints with me or other members, then we wouldnt be online writing these negative reviews.Youll notice that other gyms in the area have better reviews, more satisfied members, and lower prices. Do yourself a favor and join one of those gyms. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is that some of the personal trainers are pretty solid here. Otherwise, the place would be a complete joke.
The best gym Ive ever stepped into. It has a rock climbing wall, but I have no idea how it works because it was closed when I went on a Saturday. Several floors of fitness madness. Clean facilities, outdoor track. Pleasant staff. The only thing out of place is the café workers. There are more than a few unprofessional workers in that food service team. The classes and instructors are top notch. The price for this gym is steep... Expect to shell out 300 bucks
Highly recommend! Wonderful environment, knowledgeable and encouraging trainers. Recommended.
Lovely place! It is still improving, though current renovations are a bit inconvenient. The pool is amazing - just renovated and it is now salt water! I work a block away and often eat there. There are private yoga rooms and every other possible feature and class that were ever offered. Definitely recommend! One complaint, showers could be cleaner. There was and there may still be a photo of a shower with a hair ball in the corner. It is so big it looks like a dead rodent! Lol! Funny, but unfortunately it happens too often.
It’s the same experience each time I check in- which is great. The facility is very clean. The finishes feel lux, the products are always stocked. I never wanted or been annoyed at anything. There are lots of classes to chose from. I’ve eaten a few things here but not on a regular basis. I haven’t required any special assistance since becoming a member- but the staff is always really friendly upon check in or passing.
After their latest remodeling my reasons for using the gym disappeared. In trying to terminate my membership, they said I had to give them 45 days notice.Um. Thats not the terms I signed up for. Equinox bought out my old gym in San Francisco before I moved to NYC.Im not playing this game. Ive told my CC company to block any further charges.
The best gym I ever worked out in. Five beautiful floors with great light and wonderful atmosphere. The staff is top notch from the maintenance crew to the management team. Ive been a member for over 2 years now. The cafe serves great healthy foods, maybe slightly on the pricey side for some, but good quality food. The place is always clean and they have an outdoor track that I believe is 1/6 of a mile all around. Ive used several trainers and they have been great too. I took their Pilates classes and I was stretched to limits I had no idea I could stretch too. I can spend anywhere from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours here working on cardio and strength training or just relaxing after a quick run. I work out in the mornings during the week only. It may cost more than the other gyms but it was worth it for me.
I had labrum tears in both shoulders surgically repaired (two years between each surgery.) The amazing results after going to ICE for the first series of pt made my decision to return a no-brainer. Each therapist was professional and highly skilled. If I should require pt in the future, again ICE will be a no-brained.
The best gym in New York City! they have great patio for sunbathing and great view. Great running tracks, rock climbing wall and nice size swimming pool. Their yoga classes also great. But the monthly membership is too exprensive.
So tired of this place. Go to the basketball gym. Get kicked off by a trainer or pick-up ball. Go to lift weights get kicked off machines. Rude people constantly annoyed you are using a machine they want. Always packed, always crowded. What exactly am I paying for.
We used the kids drop off and camp For Kids Only a lot. Its amazing! All the teachers and staff are incredible.
This equinox is quite special; exceptional facilities, amazing staff, fantastic cafe, great basketball.......it is as close to a country club feel in the middle of this concrete jungle......this equinox is incredibly special
Beautiful gym, but absolutely horrible management and staff. Im an all access corporate member of Equinox and have been for many years. Never had such a terrible experience with the front desk (a girl named Natalie Duncan) and the General Manager, Charlie Linville. Absolutely horrific, insulting and condescending behavior from them. As a result of their behavior, Ill be cancelling my membership to Equinox all together. Shame on your Charlie Linville for treating long time loyal members the way you do.
Good quality machines love the eucalyptus towels super fresh after a workout
This gym has something for everyone just about. Excellent equipment especially in the weight room and kept in good repair, always plenty of towels and overall the place is very clean. Good pool, sauna and steam room, and theirs an outdoor running track, sun deck and rock climbing wall. If youre looking for a trainer though, do your homework. Most of them are not very good, spending their time on their smart devices and staring off at other parts of the club, rather than paying attention to their clients. Some of the programs they put clients through are questionable. Most are young and inexperienced. There are a few who are excellent however, but take your time and watch first to find a good one.If youve never been to Reebok before, the sales staff leaves a bit to be desired, giving sales pitches youd expect in a Golds gym in Indiana and geared more for people with high school educations rather than the well educated clientele it serves. But I go twice a day, and the staff is friendly overall, and as far as gyms or sport clubs go, this is one of the best.
I have been a member of the Reebok Sports Club for over 4 years. My primary facility is the location on the upper west side. I think the amenities are quite nice especially with the 2 basketball court gyms and rock climbing wall. I have used a trainer. They provide fantastic service and did get me into shape after 6 months. This included a regiment workout structure 2x a week. The cafeteria also served very healthy food which included shakes, pasta, salads, and other healthy meals. I think the lobby can be upgraded with a renovation as it looks a little dated.
On a superficial level this gym seems really nice. But as a 17 year member I can tell you that they are too negligent about updating the equipment, repairing broken exercise machines and televisions, The management staff is very rude and unfriendly. The management acts like a bunch of petty, underpaid bureaucrats who like to wield a little power. The only reason I belonged to this gym so long is because I worked across the street and it was convenient. I payed $4,000 a year to be a member of this gym. It is definitely NOT WORTH IT.
I have been to Reebok a few times now and I dont get it. My guess is the only thing that is good about it is the bragging rights to say that you belong to the place and you work out next to celebrities. If you want a good gym with great customer serivice, skip it.
Dark and ultra low energy. Newly renovated with chosen colors of gray on gray on gray, highlighted with a gray/brown.. Depressing! The cafe is where everyone hangs out because its the only place that has an upbeat feeling. Note Equinox refuses to permit membership cancellations, you are required to sign up for a full year. Additional warning! Your membership will automatically renew without warning after your 1 year stint. To stop renewal Equinox requires 45 days prior notice.... Its basically an added $350 fee. Staff is very nice, however they have zero authority to make changes they all blame corporate.
This gym used to be top notch and is slowly getting worse and more expensive. I used to feel so happy and comfortable there, which is important because it motivated me to go. They offer a wide range of awesome classes with exceptional teachers. The pool is salt water. They have so much variety in their machines and places to stretch. I cant run, but the running track outside around the building look so cool. Theyve a nice rooftop too. But now you have to book classes in advance. Most of the classes are packed and there arent enough weights or mats for everyone. Youve no personal space in the classes. The showers are sometimes very unclean and missing shampoo. The staff is not friendly.
Its so nice/clean and has everything! Outside track, whole floor dedicated to CrossFit workouts, eucalyptus steam room, restaurant and wifi access to get work done after. They make sure that you dont have any reason not to be there!
Ever since changed to equinox has been aweful and dangerous. They got rid of all the good machines and have scary construction and unmarked wet floors. Not to mention the raised rates due to all the unwanted changes. Do not waste your money.
I joined and immediately became a fan of and fell in love with Equinox. I spend like 12 hours in here on days I dont have to work to lounging exercising relaxing in the jacuzzi sauna and steam room. Also In the cafe area studying and reading instead of going to a coffee shop. Doing my own work outs on all six floors, the NBA size basketball court and the swimming pool not to forget the rock climbing wall. The out side roof top track and lounge area out there in the summer time. And enjoying all the classes from yoga, boxing, pilates, to tabata. If you get a chance to join the biggest Equinox club in the Manhattan and in the world do it. Its well worth it.
The Physical Therapy was world-class with great service. My trainer Aleks really helped me recover and come back stronger from a knee surgery, really recommend it for anyone looking to get back stronger and better than ever
Was a member before they made all the renovations to the cafe, salt water pool, boxing studio, lockers. Renovations are actually pretty fast. The facilities are super nice now. The food is finally decent now. Like you can actually order avocado toast with poached eggs or poke bowl with brown rice. The track field and rock climbing wall are a nice touch. The biggest perks: the physical therapy place inside the building and also most of the Pilates instructors have 10+ years of experience. Best equinox in NYC. In term of personal training, the Pilates instructors have all been superb, weight trainers have been a mixed batch and its a hit or miss for boxing, swimming or sports specialty. The general management staff is inexperienced and reception has high turnover.
Very surprised at the great reviews. I saw the main PT. He came with much acclaim from my doctor. he was aweful. He was texting the entire time while he had me on my side and was rubbing me with one hand. I have never seen such unprofessional behavior before. The admin are very nice but the quality of PT stunk. Would not go back. His other therapists looked like new grads, so I went with experience, big mistake
The staff is not knowledgeable. When asked about equipment that the gym had when it was Rebok, employees in charge of equipment unable to assist.Decor changed from lovely atmosphere to cold, impersonal all greys. Impersonal, not genuine good attitude on part of staff.
Machines were good, stuff very kind and relationship quality/price fine. I recommend it.
Nice gym with quality equipment, beautiful facilities, and great staff/trainers.
I have to say that ever since Equinox took over this facility it has lost any pretense of caring about the members whatsoever .. new politics implemented without proper lead time communication to long term members resulting in an ugly sense of karma. I have no doubt this over priced, antiquated shopping mall of a gym will start to tank .. too much competition with newer, fresher, more member friendly interaction.
I quit this gym and tried various others around the city. But once youve tried first class, its hard to adjust to coach. The closest thing to this gym for me was Chelsea Piers Sports Club because it provides a similar country club atmosphere with upscale members.I work across the street, so this is convenient. I love the sunlight, space, lounging and exercise variety. I havent taken many classes yet, so Im not judging it by those offerings. The only pitfalls in my opinion are that the showers are buried 4 stories below ground (unless you have an Executive membership). Id prefer an elevator after a leg workout, trust me!Also, the members arent very personable. Ive met maybe two outgoing people who return a smile. The rest are in their own world or worse, look at or questioning me like I dont belong. When re-activating my membership, I was given access to the Executive locker room by a male salesman, so I went in alone. The cleaning lady immediately rushed to me asking what I was doing there as if Id broken into the joint.I used to bodybuild, and this is not THAT gym. Most of the women are extremely small. Probably size 0-1 on average. The men are not muscleheads for the most part. Its an elite gym with elitist members. That said, I still enjoy it because I like being at a clean, beautiful gym thats worth the fee, convenient and safe.
My amazing therapist is Aleks who has allowed me to reach unforeseen goals of my overall physical health after spinal cord surgery. His incredible knowledge, encouragement and strategic exercise planning has put me at my ultimate body performance...Thank you Aleks!!
I was a member here for almost a year and was discriminated against, harassed, disrespected, lied on and ignored when I tried multiple times to reach out to management and corporate concerning the problems I had been experiencing with certain employees. I have never felt so unwelcomed in a place I was paying good money to be apart of!
Love it! Its so nice/clean and has everything! Outside track, whole floor dedicated to CrossFit workouts, eucalyptus steam room, restaurant and wifi access to get work done after. They make sure that you dont have any reason not to be there!
Huge gym with 6 stories, basketball courts. Swimming pool but no squash courts. Have cross fit like area but no crossfit like classes. Its almost too big to have a manageable, quick workout.Currently its undergoing lift up to convert it to Equinox shades of gray. EQX is making it a premium destination but not sure its worth a few hundred bucks a month. Youre subscribing to a lifestyle / status. It caters to older UWS crowd and classes cater to that clientele.
Beautiful gym located in the upper west side. Pool, jacuzzi, steam/sauna room, you name it they got it. The new cafe has some great food, reasonably priced. I dont use their personal trainers but most of them seem knowledgeable.Only reason I wouldnt give it 5 stars is the lack of strength training/powerlifting equipment. Some of the barbells in the 3rd floor workout area are worn out, no Glute-Ham raise machine, no speciality bars ( Safety squat bar, etc). Why did you remove the CHALK?!? Hate carrying around my chalk in my bag as it makes a mess. Please buy us some new barbells. 👍
Everything about this place is convenient and perfect!
Im an original member; this place is in serious decline; good classes have been canceled; the equipment is a mess; it takes months to get new equipment; no-one is in charge; the buzz-work is fill out a complaint form - but no-one responds. MELT was developed here but theyre no longer committed to it.
Keep an eye on your personal belongings in the locker room! The other night I changed in the locker room after working out and as I was heading towards the door realized my phone was missing. I hadnt left my bag unattended or left the phone on a machine, etc. Someone in the locker room with me must have snatched it.A 45 minute search of the gym, the lockers, find-my-phone etc. turned up nothing. On top of it - another guy in the gym reported his phone missing from the same locker area 30 minutes after me! The gym staff did help search, but as they have no cameras in the locker room there is apparently little than can be done to investigate.I asked the gym manager to send out an announcement to members be on guard for this sort of thing, but was told its not gym policy to send out such a notice. Very disappointing that this gym seems to have little preparation or follow up procedures for locker room theft. Considering the very high cost of membership I would expect more.
The gym is good and offer a lot of different equipment but very few instructors who teach group classes (Pilates, Zumba) are good and management is unbelievably rude. Nobody return your emails or phone calls - they are definitely have zero interest in assisting you in any way.
Always clean, great staff, and great group fitness
5/1/19 at 3pm, no manager on site to address an issue that only a manager can handle. Unacceptable for a “club” atmosphere.
Love this gym. people are very athletic. the showers are clean and a lot of amenities.
This place is horrible and the manager herbie schmale is extremely rude.i am a straight man and he made a very forceful pass on me which was very uncomfortable.
Just moved to the uws, love, love this place.
My favorite gym. Been a member since 2012.
Basketball courts are top notch
Money well spent.
Came out feeling great
Most unique experience in New York City
Excellent training.
Woah
It would be great if they re-opened the climbing wall. Its a safe socially distanced sport.UPDATE: The rockwall will reopen on Saturday 10/9 from 11-2 !!!! 🥳
Very good place
