First time going to Barrys. Great experience, really worked me out. Super friendly and walked me through the process. Highly recommend for a HIIT style workout.
Been doing CF for a longtime so wanted to try out Barry’s and checkout what all the fuss is. First of all the space is great, amazing locker room and nice little waiting area with a smoothie bar, the front desk reps were super nice and welcoming and explained the class to me which was super easy to understand but appreciated them taking time to explain it anyway. Once we got into the actual workout studio all the equipment was nice and clean. The coach gave some instructions before we started the class and gave us some suggestions on what weights we should use during the first part of the workout. Started on the treadmill where we did some intervals of light jog/faster jog and sprint these were pretty cool and got me nice and warm for the floor action, we had some DB work which was fun and the coach kept us motivated throughout the class. All in all I enjoyed the class I wouldn’t suggest it to someone looking to gain massive amounts of muscle cause the weight training being done is to light but I do recommend everyone check it out cause it was just fun and a really good sweat. If you live or a visit the area check them out, don’t complain about price you pay for what you get, you want $30 a month gym you get $30 a month results.
I’m a regular at Barry’s - started in SF and now do it weekly in London- so during my visit to NYC, I of course wanted to stop by. Sadly, I am very disappointed at the experience in this location.First - compared to other studios, the amenities and facilities are not that good. I appreciate the Oribe products BUT not having enough room to change and the electricity not working by the main stations (to plug in the hair dryers) left a sour taste. Most importantly, I’m very disappointed at the customer service and lack of friendliness and care of the staff. A couple of examples: given that the Barry’s in London provides free smoothies post workouts, I assumed that it would be the same in this location so I ordered my smoothie. Later I am told in the reception that I have to pay for the smoothies. Fine. However, the front desk staff then went on to explain -with a bit of judgement in his tone- that these locations “cater to different markets and that’s why the price is different in NY as well.” The market of central London doesn’t seem too different from that in NYC.Lastly, on my way out, I was struggling to open the door to take my two suitcases and a big bag out, and no one in the staff even tried to help me. The place was empty (the next class was taking place ) and the staff were either on their phones or looking at the computer and didn’t make an effort to help me. I had to ask one of them to help me open the door. He came and helped me while the other staff member gave me a rather disdainful look.Definitely not coming back to this location.
Great workout. I went for my first time the other day and it was tough but enjoyable
Fantastic concept, you will sweat, you will hurt, you will feel good about it. Clean space, on time, and great workout. PT Dan is particularly good. Had a lot of fun, will return.
This was my first time ever doing a HIIT class. Im also biased because I really hate running and need this type of class to get me to go. The overall ambiance of the place is nice. Very clean and I like that they give you a sweat towel and shower towels for free. The showers have all the amenities as well. The actual class was pretty well done. For my first time, it was easy enough to follow the instructions and understand what was going on. It goes in 15 min intervals switching between the treadmill and floor/weight work. Its a very dark room and they pound the music which I like as it keeps the energy up.I do think its very pricey for a drop in class at $36, but that seems like the normal price for these types of classes in NYC.
I have been going to Barrys since 2013 ...been to all locations, my favorite is PAS...over the years, I have made friends, enjoyed working out at the studio and hard work pays....unlike other HIT classes one should try and try and will fall in love with the workout format..the instructors, studio managers and staff get my 5 rating always -)
This Barry’s is right across from my office, so obviously the location is great. More importantly, the staff is excellent. Ben is always super helpful.
Not for the faint of heart, but a great workout of you can keep up
Workout was great but I felt with the darkness and instructor on mic walking around were hard to follow. The class deal prices I think are a bargain as well. I personally like 1 on 1 training but this is perfect place and price for its purpose.
This is the newest Barrys location, so all the machines and facilities are brand new/squeaky clean. The capacity is larger than other Barrys locations. As for the classes, theyre pretty standard Barrys classes
Challenging workout with a cult-like following that will get you results. Coaches are welcoming and helpful offering levels suitable for newbies. Facilties are clean with towels available for showers. Showers include toiletries.
For great intense workouts with the best trainers. Awesome management and the best maintenance. Barrys has it all for you when it comes down to Family
Update 06/16/2021 from 3 stars:Due to COVID I had some credit expiring. Today the front desk at Barrys Park Avenue South was able to help me and extended my credits a couple of week so I dont loose any of my pre-purchased sessions. I wanted to say thank you. Also they now have VAX only classes way to go...Update 08/27/2019 from 1 star:I needed some help today outside standard operating procedures and the front desk was accommodating and promptly responded. I wanted to say thank you.I have been going to this location for about 9 months almost every Thursday. Unfortunately this place thinks people are like a product on a shelf they are all the same. When I book the session with Charlie the usual trainer, at 6:00 am on Thursday, that is because I want to train with Charlie and not XYZ. So if Charlie is off or out then the gym should not sell the spots as if Charlie is there. People are not Iphones you pick form the shelve. Some people care about who their hair dresser, dental hygienist, doctor or trainer are.It is not ok what they do. Next time it happens I will make sure they pay me back for the session.
Good gym but very very small locker room.
Was my first time at Barry. I told the instructor and she didn’t pay attention to help me nor explain me how it works. I felt completely lost
Great service and instructors. Never had an issue here, just try to keep up...
