Once again, Ephraim & Sherlock Data Recovery came to my rescue. I had taken a video of my husband’s induction into the Hall of Fame for his athleticism at Greenwich High School and due to the age of my video camera, was unable to finalize it in order to be able to replay it in our DVD player.I had tried a couple of local vendors in our area and was informed that they were unable to transfer it. As I approached the last weeks of the school year, my flash drive all of a sudden stopped being recognized by my computer with no indication of damage. Please go to another provider to recover your data.After going to recover a USB drive and given a receipt stating a quote would be provided before any work was done, I was notified the next day that the files were recovered and that I owed 400 dollars. After calling other providers, I was told the price is excessive and usually costs around 200. In addition, he texted me a personal photo of one of my family members, which shows that he opens up and reviews files. Which is egregious.I asked for my drive to be returned, and stated that I do not want the files, but he refused to give it back until I paid him. I contacted the police to file a claim and after a 15 minute conversation with two officers, was told that I am not the first person to be calling about Ephraim.I am proceeding to file a claim in civil court, as I just want my drive back at this point, which he is refusing to give back.I would not trust this man with your personal data. Go to a professional service with a storefront location, as this practice is shady and unethical.

At the beginning of October I took my phone to Sherlock data recovery after reading some pleasant reviews on google. My iphone was stuck on the Apple logo and I had pictures on it that I had not yet backed up. I looked around the New York area for places that specialized in data recovery. After getting quotes from a few places I decided to take my phone to another company before going to Sherlock as their prices were significantly cheaper. When they told me their was nothing they could do I then decided my last hope was Sherlock.My initial meeting with Ephraim was very pleasant he took my phone, gave me a receipt, and sent me off with some hope he would be able to recover my data. A week went by and I called him for an update, he told me due to corona things move a lot slower and that I should give him 7-10 days. I thought that was fine and at that point I would wait for him to reach out to me. About 2 weeks went by and still nothing so I thought I should definitely call. He told me that there’s a very small chance he would be able to recover my data but I should give him a few days, I said ok. I call him after a few days and he tells me the exact same thing! At that point I realized that there’s no point trying to recover the data and I should just pick up my phone. That’s when things took a turn.He was being very defensive saying he can’t give back my phone till next week, starts telling me to be “patient”(like sir, you’ve had my phone for 3 weeks I’ve been patient enough), and overall speaking to me in a very rude and condescending tone. I then start to pressure him into giving me an exact date I can get my phone and he wouldn’t give me one just kept saying “I need to talk my partner”. I couldn’t believe it, I was simply asking for my property back! I started to get nervous that I wouldn’t get my phone back and read his “Yelp” reviews something I hadn’t done first time around and boy were those bad and made me super anxious. It took a few days of repeatedly calling him and pressuring him to give me my phone back till I was I finally able to get it.I asked for my deposit back because his policy is “deposit back if we cant recover your data”, he then starts going off on me about how I should’ve told him I took my phone to someone else first. Ok well, hold your horses buddy I had NO IDEA that was pivotal Info! so decided not to press him about it since it was just $35.Till this day I still do not know why it was so hard for me to simply pick up my phone. If he had simply been honest with my he would find I’m a very understanding person. I honestly believe he did put a lot of work in trying to recover my pictures, but their was no need for the rudeness and the secrecy And for that I will not comeback and cannot leave 5 stars. Do what you want, but this was my experience with him.

I went to Ephraim after doing some research on data recovery providers.A lot of what I found with others is that you get to ship out your device, or it is shipped for you so that other partners get to fix the problem. Then you get back what you shipped by mail. I was discouraged about doing this specially when nobody gave me big hopes of significant data recovery.My Iphone 6 had died entirely. I was told by someone else who looked at my phone that it was a mother board problem. I had stored in my phone 6 years worth of memories with loved ones. He stated he gets to be payed first before he can further put the data in a thumb drive and make it available to me. He takes money transfers direct to his bank account. It was easier for me to pay him in person in cash.After I payed him he stated that he needed a few more days to put the data in the thumb drive. I called him about after a week and he told me my package was ready, to come and pick it up. He had offered to ship to me, but I wasnt going to deal with the mail service. I felt more secure going to pick it up to his office.He gave me an appointment time, I showed up at the time we agreed and I got my stuff from his concierge.There were some documents in an app which we talked about during our first meeting and was also indicated in the invoice as items to be recovered. I addressed it a second time when we met to pay him. He didnt recover this. I may have not stressed it as much. He focused on my pictures which was by far the most critical things to recover.In the end he recovered about 80gigs of data and charged $500. It was costly but I didnt have the patience to shop around with someone who may or may not be able to recover my stuff and throw it in the mail. I went straight to the best and I got what I wanted.If you want the highest chances to get your data recovered, Ephraim is your guy. Thanks Ephraim! I am a happy camper!

Ephraim did a great job at recovering my data. My hard drive crashed and I had not backed up data for about 4 months. I lost pictures, family videos, and very important documents. Ephraim was available on Saturday and I brought my PC to him within an hour of contacting him. He restored the important data files first and I was able to pick up on Monday. He was then able to restore my remaining files, pictures and videos within the next few days. My information was is multiple folders, but Ephraim was able to locate the files and save them to an external hard drive that he sold to me for a very reasonable price. I then purchased a new internal hard drive and window recovery disc and Ephraim got my PC up and running for a very reasonable service charge. I was very happy to have my data fully restored (with file structure intact). The hours were flexible which was very helpful, since it was a particularly busy time of year for me with work travel. It was not cheap, at $800+, which ended up about the same price as the company the Apple Store had recommended - but they gave the quote upfront, whereas this quote only happened after the computer was dropped off. It would have been helpful to know to bring an empty hard drive to the initial drop-off, as that would have saved an extra trip to drop off an empty hard drive (the other option was to pay for an empty hard drive the owner already had on hand), and there was some miscommunication and misunderstanding about the timing of payment - in my industry, you are paid after delivery, but in this industry, it seems that you pay before receiving the files. I suppose that makes sense given the nature of the business, without an extended or contractual relationship, but it was a surprise. All in all, I would use this service again, but I really hope I dont have to.

Youd be crazy to take it to this guy. He was charging $700 to retrieve the things off of my Hard drive and transfer it to another one. But first he claimed it might cause $1,400 because its a special hard drive and he must first locate one like its kind. I took it to Best Buy because this guy sound like a scammer. Best Buy told me the information is still readable and not corrupted. So they only charged $100 to transfer it to another Hard Drive. And technically it was free because the $100 is the price of the new hard drive. Wish I could give this Sherlock Data fool a 0 star rating. 1 star is too high.
