I walked in for my first alterations appointment today. Got there 5 minutes early. The receptionist said hello took my dress and had me change right away - no introduction to the process, no conversation with the seamstress, just straight into the room.When I walk out, the owner gets straight to pinning, again without discussing anything. No time to even fix the fact the dress wasn’t sitting right on my body! She hemmed and hawed to herself over every little thing, being overly dramatic about the fact that the dress had slip layers and saying the dress would need to be completely rebuilt (without actually talking to me, or explaining anything).When she finishes she says she needs to measure me, gestures towards the dressing room and that’s it.I change out, only then does someone ask for my name. Receptionist wants me to make my next appointment, give my phone number have everything down… and then after I’ve established that owner says she needs to “explain to me”. And goes straight to $1200 without even blinking. Has absolutely no sympathy for the fact that I was quoted less than half, and says I can walk out with it.For context: my dress is sample from Lovely Bride, a lace Made with Love gown that was maybe a size too big on me. There are 2-3 snags in the lace that need to be fixed. At Lovely, multiple stylists told me that alterations would be between 400-700 “and on the low end since the dress fits you so well”.So either the stylists at Lovely Bride are using incredibly old/ low rates to sell gowns, this owner has astronomically raised her prices, or she’s used to taking advantage of everyone that comes in from the city’s salons. In any case my experience at this salon was terrible and I would encourage any bride to avoid Esin with a 10 foot pole if they aren’t spending 100k on their wedding.

I bought my dress through Spina and they referred me to Sew Elegant. I only had 2 fittings total and a dress pickup, and my dress didnt require many alterations to begin with. I had gained 10 lbs since ordering the dress so I was concerned it wouldnt have fit me, however the dress still fit. Tight on the waist but still okay. They were nice to work with and very efficient. Price was a flat fee, so I felt it was a bit high for the work done on my dress, but overall good service.

Just left sew elegant for my first bridal fitting. This is by far the best experience I’ve ever had with alterations. The women made me feel comfortable and cared for, especially since I was there alone. I highly recommend coming here for any bridal alterations!

Please brides, do yourself a favor and find another place. 1000 dollars for the work they do is way overpriced. I went to sew elegant because it was recommended by lovely bride. They shortened my dress, added a lining to the front, top half only! And added a 1 inch lace lining to the deep v neck. No beading to the dress. Nothing complicated. I would have taken my dress elsewhere if they were more transparent about pricing. The actual work is fine. No complaints. Simply just not worth the price.

Such a rip off and really not worth it! They charge a lot for very basic alterations and I am sure you can find a better and cheaper place. I did not like the alterations and I was not able to lift my arms in my wedding dress but they refused to change it, however, they knew that they ruined my dress. I understand basic Turkish and know that they said that said that they didnt do a good job with my dress. I had to re-do it somewhere else for much less money.If I could, I would give this greedy shop zero stars for ruining my wedding dress. STAY AWAY!

Best experience ever! My dress fit like a glove! My dress had very intricate detail around the bust and she was still able to add in pads and pull lace from the unused parts of my dress after hemming to fill in spaces. I highly recommend this place and their services.

I simply cannot rave enough about the fantastic experience that I had here, I was so well taken care of. My dress was a rush order that I received barely a month shy of my destination wedding date. Esin did not even blink at the quick turnaround time, cost was much less than I was prepared for, and she even fixed a last minute unwanted cleavage surprise in ONE DAY. I am blown away and forever grateful. Thank you for being a magician to my dream dress!

I am rating on my experience here, not the work. They wanted to charge me $500 to take a inch off each side of my dress at the Rib cage; mind you my dress is two layers of fabric, very easy to work with. Went somewhere else and I got it done perfect for $75. This place is way over priced. No parking in the neighborhood and while I was there there there was a mouse running around. Lady did seem like she know what she was doing and was pleasant but the price quoted was absolutely ridiculous and they dont give prices over the phone so I basically wasted my entire afternoon going to from this place.

As others have said it is PRICEY but for me its been worth it for the quality of work on my wedding dress. Esin and her staff are absolute pros and very kind and helpful, but can seem abrupt at times. They also made great suggestions for where I could find great undergarments for my gown. Recommend asking about pricing when you have the dress on ;)

This place is WAY expensive and on my wedding day my dress was still too big. I asked for it to be extremely fitted and it was not. I had two fittings, asked on the second fitting for it to be more fitted, she said it didnt need to be. She was wrong because in the majority of my pics the dress is loose on me and wrinkly around the waist where is should be hugging my curves. They charged $750 to take it in one inch on waist (on the seam) and hips, add 3 hooks for a bustle, and take in the spaghetti straps one inch. No adjustments on bust or hem. No huge adjustments in the style, just standard minimal alterations. Her personality was very nice, but that is not worth $750 in my book. I would recommend brides to shop around for quotes before committing here. I was limited in time unfortunately and could not.

Let me get this out of the way: Yes, theyre expensive. Can you find a cheaper place for alterations in NYC? Absolutely. But I did not want to take any chances with my wedding dress, and Im so happy I went with Sew Elegant. My dress (Tenley Gown from BHLDN) had an annoying half lining that kept riding up when I walked. Esin and her team replaced it with a full lining. They also did an impeccable job with the hem, which was a lot of work because of the intricate lace detail. Sew Elegant was one of the few wedding vendors I never worried about -- I knew they would make my dress perfect and they did. I was happy to pay for their high quality work and the peace of mind.

These ladies are amazing. I did not want to make a fuss or spend a lot of money on my wedding dress. I bought a sale dress at Anthropologie, thought it fit great and that I just needed it to be taken up a tad. Boy was I wrong. The owner of the shop showed me how the dress was bunching in the back with all the buttons and the shoulders were also drooping. It was tight in the wrong areas and way too big in others. After a moment of terror when the professional seamstress offered that I go buy a different dress that fits better... we got to work to figure out what they could do to make it better. The extra challenge I offered was that I was leaving town that week and would be back for only a couple days before my wedding. They took all the measurements (which I assured them would change pretty drastically bc I would be running around in the summer heat for the next 3 months and usually drop 10lbs...) and I left town. When I got back they had made a miracle happen. The dress was just about perfect but they wanted to make a couple final fine tune adjustments upon seeing me. I went in a couple days later to pick up a dress that was literally made for me. The comments I heard constantly at my wedding were that dress fits your body so perfectly, it is incredible... well it it wasnt me and it wasnt the dress, it was 100% Sew Elegant Bridal. xo

Esin was one of the BEST decisions I made during my wedding planning process. She was more expensive than other tailors, but she was truly worth it. She is such an amazing and experienced seamstress, I always felt so comfortable working with her and just knew that my dress would turn out perfectly in her capable hands - and it did! The added bonus of working with Isen is that she truly cares about each of her brides and wants her brides to be happy on their wedding day. I had a hard time selecting undergarments for my dress and it really stressed me out in the weeks prior to the wedding - but every time I talked to Esin she was patient, had great advice, and calmed me down. Just book her :). You will NEVER regret it!

Also, they did it so fast! I was referred to Sew Elegant by BHLDN. This was one of two place BHLDN recommended to me: the other was pin point bridal. They may not the most affordable tailor (it was $680 for me for hem, shortening strap, creating bustle, fitting waist to hip, adding cup etc) but I still consider this one of the best decisions I made for this event.Sew Elegant have the machine in house and multiple seamstress on site so your dress will be address immediately without transportation. I needed the dress to be ready in one week: a rush order. I think it helped that the event was on Nov: off season (Oct-Feb). They were so accommodating and I was able to get my dress in less than a week.In addition, they know what they are talking about and doing. The bustle they created not only made me walk smoothly. It became a part of gown design and added even more elegance.I also want to point out they not only was professional but also so kind. I came to the store a bit stressed out and their warmth and positive words calmed me down. I left the store feeling good and confident that my dress is in the best hands I could find.When you are planning big event, finding venders who you can trust on their professionalism is so important. They are it.I recommend Sew Elegant to any ladies who are looking for a great tailor for their dress. Hands down.
