The car I received was dirty inside and out and had a slow leak in the front passenger tire. When I reached my destination it had less than 20 lbs of air and the customer service didnt answer their phones and when they did they did not assist me in fixing the tire. They said I had to get the tire fixed on my own or purchase a new tire. This is totally unacceptable and caused the first day of my vacation to be ruined as I searched for a service station to repair the tire. They gave me the car with a slow leak which should have never happened.

Terrible service, the car had a strong smell of tobacco and was infested with cockroaches. I called customer service and they sent me to the counter in MIA; the counter person at MIA told me to call customer service to fix the issue.I am so disappointed.

I wish I could give them zero stars! Do NOT use this car rental company.I reserved a car online two weeks prior to my trip. I arrived at the car rental place and there was NO attendant. There was a sign directing us to go to AVIS. After waiting in line for nearly 1 1/2 we arrived to the front of the line to be told they would have to call the manager at Payless to assist us. We had to get out of line at Avis and wait another 20 minutes for someone to arrive to assist us.This was a horrible experience DO not use Avis or Payless. Very unorganized and unprofessional.Cost me a lot of precious vacation time! My entire first day of vacation was wasted trying to get the car I had already paid for!

Picking up car was a breeze--no long lines. The attendant was polite and efficient. The car was extremely clean unlike other services that I have previously used. If you want a seemless process, I would recomment payless particularly at a busy airport like Miami.

There was no one in the counter after waiting over an hour someone came to assist us. ALSO there was a scratch on the vehicle and they did not go over the vehicle damage.. I drove the car with no rental documents because the gate guy took the paper and gave me back just the flyer back without the agreement.. terrible service.. also a deposit with my credit card?? 250?? I dont see that on the web page at all. Surprise

Do not rent from this company !!!! Paid for a week. Used it for a day and they wouldnt reimburse. Horrible!!! Once I ln airport, you have to go catch train to train to get to counter. If you looking to get a vehicle quickly. Do not. Also, when renting make sure you are well inform about tolls and sunpass. They told us nothing!!!The price is low for w reason

The representative (I wish I could remember her name) had great customer service and I got my car cheaper than I expected dealing with the last minute need. I love that they were able to rescue me. 💕👍 Even tried looking and calling me to tell me car was ready as not to give it to anyone else. Totally saved my weekend and wallet!

Great service. Cant at all complain! Every car I get is new, clean and runs great:) I am so happy to be their customer. I highly recommend going to this place. FYI make a reservation online its cheaper and try not to use their insurance because they charge you extra ;) Also, if you want to pay with debit card you have to have a boarding pass or an ID thats not from Florida :)

Worst company ever!!! I never write reviews or try to be that person who complains but let me tell this company is a total scam, one star is too much . I rented a small car for only a usage of 5 hours then to be returned and I got it for $25 including tax. Once I reviewed my bank account I noticed they charged me $106.23!! I contacted them regarding this and they started bringing up charges that they in the first place never me informed about and they ranked up the prices without even informing me. I brought the car back full and they still charged me a fuel charge!!! I will be contacting corporate regarding these scammers, they should shut this company down!!

When we picked up the car at Miami Airport no one was at the counter for about half hour. When woman came back said she was in the bathroom. Shouldnt she have a backup? When we returned car same thing no one at the counter. Also, when returning, we returned the car a day earlier and the man was so rude and ignorant. I would never recommend or rent a car from you again.

THE WORST. Had a reservation for full size sedan. Walked up to counter, nobody was there. Waited a while, and a sleepy representative stumbled out of the back. As he was checking us in, without consulting us, downgraded us to a minivan because a sedan was apparently not available. My husband caught on to that just before they charged our credit card! Then, the rep rudely tried to tell us that a minivan was actually an upgrade. Um....I made the reservation! I saw the pricing! And a minivan was clearly two levels below a sedan. Also, youre located in one of the busiest airports in the United States! How do you not have a sedan available? We took our business right across to another car rental company, and were treated like royalty, with a free upgrade to a luxury vehicle! Will NEVER return to Payless!

I booked a car for my dad and he loved the price since it was cheaper than the other car rental companies. The car was even better than he expected and he came back from visiting my grandfather saying the car was amazing and gas friendly. My dad had no problems getting the car and I made the reservation 2 days before he left to Miami. At first I was very skeptical about it but if my dad who complains about every little thing liked what he got than its reliable.

Please do yourself a favor and book at another car rental agency. We had just got off a cruise ship in the port of Miami and saw a shuttle with Payless/Budget/Avis on the side of it. There were numerous rental car shuttles running to the airport. We got on board and our first and only stop was budget downtown. I’ll admit I should have asked before we got on. This is where things start falling apart. The shuttle bus driver will only drive us back to the pier if we tip him. I tip very well and would have tipped him at the end of the return trip back to the pier. He was beyond rude and at that point I decided to take a taxi to the airport from downtown.Once we got to the airport our car wasn’t ready. I’d normally understand that it’s a busy weekend and be happy with what they give me. I was first offered a car at $45 more than my booked rate. Then mysteriously another car became available at $20 more. It was a bait and switch scam. Stay away from this place!!!!!

Great Service, Unbeatable prices :), Excellent vehicle, it was very clean. I could give 3.5 - 4 stars to Vehicle pick up process, after showing the paperwork to the attendant you have to go around the car and do your own inspection, then return to the counter with the receipt back to the attendant. Its not like grab a key and go as other rental companies. It was OK as I was there really early and not many costumers at that time so I got out quickly, but I can see big problem if the counter is busy (I experience this situation in Seattle, WA it was a long line and just 1 attendant, I had to move to next door rental company as their waiting line was also long but 4 attendant available). I give 5 star to this review because the situation didnt really affect me at the MIA facility, but like I said, it cold be out of control. Aside of this, everything was Perfect :)

The person at the MIA rental counter was dishonest. The policies he stated were simply a scam. Not sure if this was Payless telling him to do this or not. 1) He said Nissan Altima was only for premier members. That was NOT true. 2) We had a 14-day rental. We arrived 1 hour early. There was no car of the specified category for us. We talked to toll-free customer service 1 day ago to adjust pickup time and the rep said should be no problem for the rental if actual pickup time is different -- if its same day. But this person at the MIA counter said either we pay up to get the next category size car, or we had to wait for 30 min for an available rental car. 3) After we waited for 30 min (!), he ran the charge, and he had the system set up to charge us for an additional day of rental, because the actual pickup time was 30 minutes earlier than the scheduled pickup time. Were going to post this horrific incidence we encountered at MIA.

Worst car rental Ive ever experienced, in any country, without contest. Avoid them at all costs.Key stopped working. With their cars, if the electronic key fails, the mechanical key *cannot* be used - the car is effectively dead. They have no spare keys, not even at the location. Their 800 number on the contract says if you already have a car, hang up and call the location directly, using the number on your contract - but the number is NOT on the contract. Payless customer service can give you the number for the location, but the number they give you is just a voicemail that says mailbox full - so they actually have no idea how to contact the airport location directly. Even though theyre affiliated with Avis and Budget, they wont let you get your car towed to those, and they have no locations outside Miami. If youre in Key West, you still need to be towed to Miami. Except that even their emergency roadside assistance cannot contact Payless, so they cant arrange a tow! Never rent from this idiotic company, and tell your friends never to rent from them.

I was a little skeptical at first when booking with Payless due to the other reviews on here but I couldnt pass up the deal. Their rates were half of that from the competitors. I felt confident in Payless since they are actually located in the car rental center and not offsite like some of the other shady places. The lady that checked me in sort of had an attitude but I think thats just how Hispanic ladies are. She let me know all my options and did not pressure me into buying insurance or protection. I was in and out within 5 minutes. My friends were super surprised when I let them know how cheap I paid for my rental. I would definitely recommend Payless Car Rental to all my friends and family if they plan on visiting Miami.

We rented from Payless for our week here in Miami for a friends wedding and I give it a one star because the car was really dirty on the inside and it also has roaches (big ones) crawling out from the dash board up to the ceiling. I have never experienced something like this in my life. I dont even ride in the front seat with my husband because I dont want any to fall into my things or on my head. We are taking the car back today and I will be letting the staff know to see what can be done about that. I will not recommend them to ANYONE. But I guess you get what you pay for.

Wow, this place its an FRAUD!I rented a car from them through Hot Wire, everything fine, I dropped the car nice and clean. Two or three days after, when I check my statement, I notice that they overcharged me.when I called customer service, I spoke with a representative and he say I am sorry!, I can see that! your money will be refunded in a couple of days.after a few days, I checked again and the money wasnt back to my account.So, I called again and spoke with another agent,and, this guy told me that apparently the problem was that I returned the car one day after that the day I was supposed to do it!and that were the reason of my over charge!THATS NOT TRUE!!! When I argued with him, he told me another story!now he said that may be because I rented through Hot Wire!That I am suppose to call Hot Wire to make a claim!This PAYLESS CAR RENTAL its a fraud!!

Not one to leave a review, but after this experience, i have too. RUN while you can. Im a local and have always rented vehicles from many other vendors, but this by far is the worst experience. These people are rude, unprofessional, and lazy. No customer service skills at all. There was only one girl at the exit point that seem to know what she was doing and was respectful. I rented a car in which my card was charged twice for one transaction. The reason I found out is because I was checking my balance to pay my mortgage and found $300+ missing from my account. I returned the car in mint condition and even cleaned it. I will never be coming back and i will warn people about them. Btw, they are in the same group as Budget and Avis. (Different reservation counter with different people, but same lot with same people. Vehicles are shared amongst the companies. Just disgusting.UPDATE: I did get the money back. But I dont like hassle or rudeness.

First, when renting on the web it gave me the choice either to have car insurance for $11 per day, or not to have it, without apparently any problem, even when they said that, I wanted to make sure and I called payless´customer service and the guy who attended me told me that was not necessary to buy car insurance that If I had a car with insurance all I had to do was to print out the insurance car and that will be all. Once in Vegas, at the car rental closer to the Airport we had the misfortune to be attended by NATASHA, she was very rude, my wife and I barely heard her and what she was saying, I had to ask her to speak louder. At that moment she told me that we needed to HAVE an insurance!!!! can you believe it!!! and guess what was not $11 per day, now it was the double!!!! OUTRAGE!!!!!! AND STEAL!!!!! When she asked me if I wanted to have them to fill out the tank of gas, I asked her how much was going it to be and she said the gas price always was going to be below the average price for Vegas, then and only for her answer I agreed.....guess what...I was charged $9.25 per gallon!!!!!! to filled out the tank about 92 dollars.....they are professional thief, that is what they are. I felt so cheated and robbed, I would not recommend this company to any one, just to my worst enemy.

Got a 2013 Hyundai Accent base model without cruise control. Upholstery was stained in several places. On day 3 of the rental, the freon went out and I was left with no a/c for a day. I was allowed to exchange, but got no offers to compensate for the difficulty.If you want a cheap car, youre going to get what you pay for.

Not much of review writer but wanted to share my worst experience so far with any car rental company. First they gave us a car which was reeking with the smell of smoke to the point unbearable even for few seconds. I asked for another car and they gave us a car with 260k miles on it. I checked the odometer only when i noticed lot of noise from engine once i was out of airport and started going at a speed following traffic. I did not check the odometer when i got this second car as i would never expect rental car companies to rent such old & high mileage vehicles.Never doing business with Payless again.

Being skeptical of the company after reading several negative reviews and watching a Dateline/Nightline bit on how there may be or is currently a class action lawsuit against them, I still decided to give them a try because there are some positive reviews and they are less than half the price of the well known competitors. I went into it very carefully, making sure I was familiar with their company policies.This location appears to be very honest - Ill let you know if I get any unexpected charges in the future, I rented last week. But I read the instructions before booking/arriving. I booked through their website. I was going to be paying with a debit card, which made me nervous but it was all I had. They explicitly list what you need with you if you choose to do so. In my case, I have an out of state license and I had proof for my return flight. They took out a relatively small deposit and I had no issues.I also wasnt going to get their insurance-so I brought proof of my own along and had no issues. I told them Id return the car with full fuel - which I did - no additional charges.The car itself was a Hyndai accent, car was in fine shape. No smells. Clean. I took photos before and after just because of the horror stories I had heard over the internet about some locations charging for damage that was already there. Again, no issues.At less than half the price of their competitors, I will absolutely recommend Payless. Everything the car was supposed to be, it was. All the charges I have received thus far have been exactly what I expected. 10/10 will return.

Save yourself the time and money and rent from someone else. After returning my rental with a full tank, I was charged a $93 refueling fee. Now multiple calls and requests to customer service later, I have not been able to speak to speak with someone who is willing or able to remove the absurd charge. Because I returned the car after hours I wasnt able to record the tank reading with someone. They are taking advantage of this fact and stealing my money. Im shocked at how terrible their customer service has been. Stay away!

The sales agent was very rude. He kept telling me I needed additional insurance and that it would cost an extra $30 a day which was 6x more than the rental price of the vehicle. I told him I had coverage through my Visa and he said that was not enough. I literally sat there for 45 mins telling him it was good enough, showing my insurance coverage policy and he continued to say I needed to pay there insurance. Finally I asked to see there rules and guidelines and he kept me there even longer telling me another person was going to print it, which never happened. Then Finally he said what I had was fine when he couldnt produce the documents. He also told me I must have a sunpass to rent the vehicle or I would be charged $25 per toll without one. I then left and realized he forgot to give me a sunpass. I then went back and asked for one and another young girl who was listening to our conversation earlier said I dont need one as the plate has been registered. I dont know why he wouldnt explain that in the first place. I sure hope I dont have any additional charges.

There should be a way to rate this agency a negative 5 . I called them thrice to extend my rental, they made me wait more than 1.5 hours in total . The Salesperson just kept pushing for completing the transaction even without telling me the price for rental. When I kept asking the price, this person puts me on hold and then hangs up. The car given had no checks done. The air pressure was low, the car fluids were low and the gas was less than half filled . Imagine a Toyota Camry giving mileage less than my sports car show how bad the car was.

The worst experience in my life. I forgot my glasses (Ray-bans) inside the car, and after a couple of hours I called back asking for my glasses, they told me it wasnt there. That was their final answer after two days calling asking for my glasses. My glasses were stolen by their workers. How can a company like that one, serving customers do something like this. If I were you I would never rent a car with such people.

First of all we reserved a full size car. When my husband reached the desk the guy told him we have no full size cars...we can give you a smaller car for the same price. We had 4 adults traveling together. ...... we would not fiit nor wanted a small car. After this guy sitting and telling us he had no cars for about 30 mins he finally came up with a suv but would cost us more. My husband is a type 1 diabetic and forgot his insulin at home. While I was trying to find a nearest hospital or a 24 hour pharmacy as it was now almost 10:00 pm. this guy Manny was working my husband over at the counter. He was not feeling well because he needed his insulin. He was bullied into buying the insurance and he agreed to pay more for the car since they had not the class of car we reserved. All of this while I stepped away trying to get his insulin. My husband tells me nothing about the insurance or the upcharge. We then go out to get the car. The man tells us we dont even have that car he rented to you, if we could wait he will find us another suv. We leave and are headed to find him insulin in a city we know nothing about. I look at the contract and tell my husband you got the insurance and they are charging us more? He didnt know anything about agreeing to the insurance. We got his meds went to return the car an hour later. They smugly told us too bad. You can return the car and we will charge you a days rental and a days insurance and rent you another car at todays prices. What a scam..... the Manny guy wouldnt even look our way as we had a very heated conversation at their counter. I sent a complaint to Payless.....their response you signed the contract too bad. The site says they guarantee the class of car.......bull!! Sent a complaint to the BBB. DONT EVER RENT FROM THEM.........THAT IS WHY IT IS SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN OTHER COMPANIES!! Horrible rental experience. Customer service unimaginable. I wonder if the manager know how bad his or her employees are. It happened on July 30,2015, early AM between 6-7 AM at Miami International Airport. Those employees worked night shift.Beware on the car returns, they will make up damages just for you to pay especially if you do not get insurance from them.This is a negative rating so I guess I will just check 1 star. BEWARE! They are refusing to refund a reservation they couldnt fulfill! After I made and paid for a reservation, there was no vehicle once I arrived at the airport. Lucky there are a ton of other companies there to choose from. What a horrible experience. Save yourself some time and go else where.

This is the worst car rental company I have ever used. The whole thing started with a $250 deposit (not a hold on my debit card like other companies I have used), which took 1 week for them to return. This is nowhere stated on their site when you reserve and they do not tell you until the very end of your transaction. After that was done, they gave me a car that smelled horrible and which had all the seats stained. The second car also smelled quite bad but I took it anyway. The car was not well balanced, and the battery died in a gas station while we put gas. We had to get a jump start to get the car back to the facility. A week later they only deposited $233 of the original deposit and when I call to see where the remaining 17 dollars had been used, the call center rep told me he had no access to the information and that someone would call me in 72 hours to go over the bill. OMG!!! Do yourself a favor, and rent somewhere else.

When I got to the airport everything was smooth we got the car no problems at all the car was clean only problem was when I returned it the African guy tgat was in return had a very bad attitude I was really upset especially that it was4 am n I was with my child he really got me mad I reported him but I didnt know what happened because I had to go I was really disappointed ppl like that shouldnt be there for customer service 😞😟☹️😤😩😩

Front desk girl was the worst receptionist in the history of customer service before greeting me or anything else she started asking me for a utility bill without even explaining why then ignored me when I started talking to her my boyfriend had to do the reservation and when we dropped off the car they wanted to charge us extra because they said we were an hour late when our contract specifically said 6pm and they claimed we were supposed to be back by 5pm so much incompetence in one place seems impossible but theyve got you covered
