My old Toyota was idling really poorly and I performed a number of common checks and maintenance items myself with little improvement. I finally suspected the carburetor was the cause (and groaned). There arent too many carburetor repair shops left nowadays. Its definitely a dying art. Im thankful for the Google community setting my mind at ease and directing me towards California Carburetor with so many positive reviews. I promptly checked out their website--and you should too. Their strong values speak for themselves, and reality didnt disappoint. Its hard to find conscientious and honest mechanics nowadays, especially knowledgeable ones familiar with quirky older cars. Mine was diagnosed and repaired quickly at a fair price. Most of my diagnostic fee was applied towards the carburetor rebuild--a quality job that included all necessary adjustments. I emailed the owner (Tim) a number of questions afterwards and he always responded quickly. He patiently helped me sort out some other issues my car had, didnt try to sell me anything I didnt need, and we got it running great, better than ever in my 7+ years of ownership. I did have to replace a few vacuum hoses myself that may have sustained some extra wear as a result of the job, but thats to be expected when you start pulling apart an old car. Overall, Id say these guys are straightforward, transparent and trustworthy. Im big on value and they provide that. Id definitely visit them again, and recommend them, without hesitation.

These guys are top notch and honest. Tim runs a tight ship. A shop like this is hard to come by now a days. I have an 82 yota 4x4 which needed a carburetor rebuild. Price was fair and work was good. Hope they stay around for years to come.

I called asking for a quote and they gave me a fair price. They did a fantastic job rebuilding my carburetor and organizing my engines vacuum lines. With a lot of knowledge about engines and cars, but no time to do the work my self. I will be bringing classic cars and trucks here moving forward.

THE place to go for carburetors! Tim and Edgar really know their stuff, and they’re extremely helpful. My 93 Isuzu Amigo is only running still because of them, and they were able to diagnose and repair the carburetor we rebuilt ourselves on our 66 Mustang project. Thanks!

Went in after airbag light had been flashing for over a month. I had tried to fix myself (DIY YouTube) but no success. When I went here, they plugged in their computer to find the error code, cleared the issue and didnt even want to charge!I had called other garages, and most wanted $100+ diagnostic fees just to look at the light. How refreshing it was after the long headache to have somebody just help me out and not want to gauge me. I left a well-deserved tip and will be back if I have any other car maintenance needs.

The first time I brought my car here was to have the carburetor adjusted. When I picked up my car they told me that I had a vacuum leak between the engine and intake manifold. I eventually brought my car back to have the vacuum leak fixed, and this time when I picked up my car they told me that the vacuum advance on my distributor wasnt working. Since my car still wasnt running well I decided to do my own diagnosis. The first thing I found is that the intake manifold bolts werent properly torqued when they replaced the manifold gasket. One of them was so loose that I didnt even need a tool to turn it. On top of that, one of the bolts had been replaced with a bolt of a dissimilar grade steel. The second thing I found is that the nuts holding down the carburetor werent properly torqued. By not having these two joints properly clamped they obviously didnt fix the vacuum leak. The third thing I found is that the vacuum line to the distributor had been plugged with a ball bearing. This would explain why the vacuum advance wasnt working. Taking all of this into consideration, I would never bring my car back to this shop.
