We loved room 209! Its spacious and well decorated. The lanai is amazing with beautiful views. The kitchen has everything you will need and then some. The best snorkeling is right behind the condos. Debby and Tony the on site managers were super helpful. We already plan on going again. Thanks Kulakane!
Have stayed in 309 and 209 and loved our amazing views from the lanai being right on the ocean. We watched whales from our lanai in January and sea turtles swim just past the seawall everyday. Each unit is individually owned so some are really updated and modern just got to pick the right units. Love the feel of the property. Good mix of owners, repeat guests, and new guests make the pool and common areas a real melting pot. Lots of new people coming to kulakane and it’s more family friendly then before. There is a small pool, lots of chairs and loungers to lay out and small beaches on each side of property. Great beach just down the road. Grocery store, restaurants and coffee shop within 1/4 mile. On site Managers Tony and Debbie are the best. These units Do not have ac but you don’t need it being ocean front with all the sliders and windows open 24/7 I wanted to feel the ocean breeze, lots of indoor / outdoor space from the living room to the lanai. Nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the ocean 40 feet away. Washer and dryers down stairs, free parking and high speed Internet. Feels safe and comfortable here for me and my family.
We stayed in unit 209, it had just been redone. Very nice, clean unit with all the amenities. Super cutie, well decorated and comfortable. This place is beautiful, great price, super friendly staff, awesome location. The sunsets are amazing right from your balcony. Debbie and Tony were great hosts! We cant wait to return to Maui and stay at the Kulakane!
Our first time in Maui and this place is just wonderful ❤We stayed in 114 on the first floor. The ocean is in the back yard. The views are just beautiful 😍There is a small private beach access where you can see Turtles swim right up to feed on the rocks. The landscaping is Beautiful!Watching the sunset here is the perfect spot 👌If a unit here becomes available for purchase, put me on the top of the list 😎
This is a difficult review because there are multiple businesses involved. Our unit itself was clean and basically in order. The complex itself However is tired and worn out. The grounds keeper and staff do an excellent job and was very friendly and respectful. The laundry room was clean and in good repair. The garbage and recycle sorting area was very clean and organized. However the problem is the capital improvements have been neglected. We booked the place seeing pictures that are quite different that the 17 pics I am about to post. If these pics are removed by the establishment just know the lawn is mostly green outdoor carpet covering the neglected maintenance issues. In one corner there is caution tape because the concrete patio is broken and hollow beneath due to erosion (dangerous). In one pic It appears Pool chairs were stacked to keep people away from other similar danger. Another pic shows an orange caution cone sitting in a hole. We were contacted days before our stay advising of the potential the lawn and pool would be inaccessible due to construction and heavy equipment to repair the sea wall. While construction did not fully commence beyond materials being delivered, trust me when I say the area was already near unusable. The management company sold us something very different than the reality we found. At the same time the management company did make an effort by replacing the broken cooler, coffee maker and small microwave on the third of our 10 day stay. So what’s good?: The complex is so close to the ocean the white noise of crashing waves will lull you to sleep. Our unit had no AC and it wasn’t needed with exception of late afternoon. It cooled during the night especially with the help of plenty of fans. The large sliding Lanai door stayed open (screen door closed) our entire visit. We often kept the front door open to help cool it off in the afternoon. My apologies for the excessively long post. I wanted to be thorough but fair. Buyer beware. Please hit the like if this was at all helpful.
I believe these units are all privately owned and rented, so this review may be slightly invalid for rooms other than 305. For all the units though, the view is amazing. You can see both Molokai and Lanai right from your porch. Sea turtles, dolphins and whales (during season) can be swimming in between these islands too. Absolutely gorgeous. The unit itself wasnt nearly as great; dont get me wrong, it is by no means bad, its just meh. The beds and decor were fine, there were tons of essentials that you would expect at a condo and some. However, there were some drawbacks. The microwave and other small appliances barely warmed your food. There were only enough towels for 4 people to have one each, which wouldnt be a problem if there were washers and dryers in the units. There is a pay laundromat at the office, but its closed at 7, so we never could make it down there in time. Overall, nothing was a deal breaker, and we had a lovely stay. Oh! The beach access for these condos is not super family friendly, but you can walk just down the road for a sandy beach to enjoy.
Nice views. Small unit I was in. Walking distance to the beach, park and some restaurants.
We stayed in unit 203 for the past week. I would definitely stay here again and I would recommend it to family and friends.Pros: Very private balcony with amazing views. Nicely updated. Nicely decorated. Awesome walk in closet in the bedroom that worked great for a mini bedroom for our toddler to sleep. Has all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay.Cons: it was very clean other than the sheets in the couch bed hadn’t been changed. We brought it to the management’s attention and they were quick to get it taken care of. The carpet in the master bedroom could use a deep cleaning, or replacement. The power outlets are not secured in the wall in multiple spots. That is something that definitely needs to be addressed. The main reason I am calling out the flaws is in hopes the owners will see and fix what needs to be fixed. It’s a great unit and other than a few fixes it’s a perfect place to stay.
When you imagined paradise as a kid.... this is it.
I would give them a ten (10) if I could! They have become loved friends after many years! I’ve stayed in five star hotels in New York and around many countries. THEY DON’T HOLD A CANDLE TO THIS PERFECT PLACE!It’s immaculate and they fix any problem immediately!! I look forward to the month I spend there ! Sheila Jones 🌴🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
We stayed here for a full week and it didnt seem long enough! We literally saw rainbows and sea turtles every single day from our balcony, it was such an amazing view! The whole place had a very cozy, community feel to it as well, we felt very welcomed and at home. The full kitchen was definitely a plus as well, we were able to cook some meals and make lunch to take with us on our various adventures around the island. Our condo even had a little cooler we could take in our car - or for cold beers down by the pool! I would 100% recommend The Kulakane and we will most certainly be back!
I was in room 207 and couldnt have been happier with the accommodations. Its right on the beach so I was lulled to sleep every night by the sound of the waves. No AC but that didnt bother me. Fans kept it very comfortable.
Great experience so far. The proximity to the water is amazing, especially if you get a first story unit. Amenities are good, nice to save a buck over the full fledged resorts but this one is worth ever dime.
Love the ocean front location and falling asleep to the sound of waves. Excellent location, only 5 min walk to farmers market, coffee shop and public beach park. Small complex is quiet and low key, perfect for those wanting to have an ocean front experience at half the price of the Kaanapali resorts.
First time staying here..and we love it. It is great to be able to access the beach, and some of the best snorkeling Ive done in Maui, most fish and tons of turtles. We are spoiled with the waterfront...which all the units are, and we have a corner unit with a spectacular view. For sure going to come back again!
This place had the best views...we were so close to the ocean!! It was clean, homey, and had lots of extras- beach mats, ice chest, beach chairs, pool noodles! The onsite manager went above and beyond helping us. No A/C, but lots of windows for breezes, overhead fans, and lots of extra fans too. And where do they get their sheets?? Really soft! They supply plenty of towels. I would definitely stay here again.
Best kept secret on the island. Great location and a bit of paradise in paradise. Older and small but just our cup of tea. Quiet and friendly people.
Great in all ways.
Love this condo have stayed 3 times now, its small maybe 30ish unit and right on the water. Only draw back is no ac in units, its only an issue when there isnt a breeze. Grounds are well maintained, manger is on the ball. Also have a community kitty o. the grounds
Condo unit with full kitchen, with large shaded balcony facing the ocean, views of Molokai and Lanai islands, facing West for gorgeous sunsets. Private entrance to the beach + small pool in garden facing ocean. Sea turtles swimming and eating in front of the condo! Shallow swimming at low tide protected from currents by small reef. Plenty of parking, stores walking distance (Farmers Market, Snorkeling gear, restaurants, supermarket) and 15 minutes away from Lahaina town. No A/C
I loved it here. Its an ocean front property with beach access and a great view. Sea turtles are a common sight to see here.
Awesome place to stay! Nice quiet condos that are right on the beach. Staff was super friendly, even have a welcome sign for the guests to make them feel welcomed and at home. Theres a gathering in Fridays at sunset; each guest is encouraged to bring a dish and enjoy the sunset with everyone.
This place is so perfect! You wont believe the view from your room. The exterior from the front of the building doesnt do it justice. And I have come here with small children several times. If you have well behaved children...they treat you great. My kids swam in the pool everyday, and never had any issues with the other residence. This place is truly unbelievable. You wont regret staying here
Its nice has a beach has a pool great people come and stay here
309 is fantastic. Tad warm without A/C but Suzanne has everything in the needs department.
The home was in a fabulous location with a great view. Cookware was atrocious! Very sparse on all supplies..... bring what you need or be prepared to buy lots... no foil, baggies, or any type of storage bags. A baggie with dish washer soap... CHEAP!
We were in 213, and we love the unit. Amazing view to the ocean. The unit doesn’t have ac but we didn’t mind it as we slept with the door balcony door opened. The sound of waves were super calming. The kulakane is a walking distance to market, outdoor market (mon-wed-friday), badass coffee and a beach park if u don’t want to swim in the ocean in front of the unit, but i recommend u do! Every evening, people will blow the conch shell, it was lovely! My unit had everything that is essential for cooking, we have nothing to complain there. The kulakane don’t have their own beach but the neighbouring building does, and it seems they don’t mind people sharing their tiny beach.
Great location, just north of kaanapali beach. There is a small beach right out front where we frequently see sea turtles. 2 bedrooms and 2 couches with pull out beds. The place itself is very nice but does get hot pretty easily.
Quiet, senic, long stays, all rentable condos.
Such a special place... If you know you know.Mahalos Debbie and Tony Maui no ka oi
What is there not to love about 83 degrees & sunny every day in Maui! My wife & I stayed there for two week during our honeymoon. The Kulakane condo we stayed in had just been remodeled for a more modern look & feel. It was a quiet stay other than the occasional rooster at 5am to let you know the day has started! Everything from the conch shells to the sea turtles made for a pleasant stay. Perfectly place just outside of downtown Lahaina & just a short walk to the farmers market during the week. Everyone staying there were very helpful and welcoming. Our stay was more than 3 years ago but I felt I needed to write a review and suggest/recommend the Kulakane to anyone thinking about going to Maui. I know its only a matter of time before I will be going back there, only this time it will be for three weeks!!!
Whats not to love. Roomy and walking distance to local shops and beach.
This condo is quite old but functional and has no air conditioning. This is basic lodging with a kitchen but absolutely no hint of luxury. The last five years in Maui have been hotter than ever from May through August, so be prepared to sweat a lot in this condo. You will want to eat outside to take advantage of any breeze. The manager is a chain smoker - she sits in the parking lot by the office and smokes a lot after work and at night. You will smell cigarette smoke in your condo if the wind is blowing from the east and sometimes from an undetermined direction, even though it is supposed to be a non-smoking complex. Some of the units need major remodeling. Expect lots of noise through the paper-thin walls (including traffic noise, kids, and banging sounds from the neighbors). Expect to get awakened by a rooster at 4 am every day. The sound of the waves and the morning sunrise is fantastic, however. The site has 2 excellent gas grills. If you want any hint of luxury or peace or cool, avoid this place, but if saving money is your priority, this fits the bill. The bed was ok, but extremely hard, It was almost impossible to sleep due to the lack of air conditioning and noises coming from outside through the necessarily-open windows for the 7 days we stayed. It is right on the beach with a great ocean view, but the reef is tiny, so snorkeling isnt good here due to sandy churn. Pool is tiny, shallow, and unswimmable - only for small kids. No jacuzzi. There is a laundromat - its $2.50 per load. There is a weekly pupu get-together. The unit that I rented had sticky, 30 year old master bedroom carpet. The site manager is very nice and helpful.
We have been coming to this place for 39 years and by far this has the worst management team that Ive ever seen there. It seems like all they care about is getting the money for Rent theres no standard that they check the units make sure everythings operating properly we had a lot of issues with the unit. When you call to book the unit for your vacation they dont offer any information as far as Construction and three large sinkholes which ruined a lot of the landscape. We understand theres not a lot you can do about sinkholes but let the people know what to expect when they get there so they can book elsewhere if they want to. The 9 days we stayed there the swimming pool was cloudy 4 days of that time and I never saw anybody vacuum the sand out of the pool. Over the years we have recommended this place to our family and friends we have to rethink that what a shame.
It was a nice unit, everything we needed, and we would go back any time.
Unbelievable views of the ocean and Molokai. Small and friendly complex with beautiful gardens, a great beach and within walking distance of shopping, restaurants and a farmers market.
This small complex is in an excellent location, offering ocean views to each condo. The grounds were meticulously groomed and well cared for.
Nice views with big sliding glass doors (I recommend an end unit if you can get it) and close to everything for a great price. Down fall was small pool, limited beach access and no A/C in the rooms.
A nice place to stay, well maintained and friendly staff!
Only checked in yesterday but so far the condo is pretty spacious, was well stocked with various things, the kitchen has a variety of potatoes/pans/silverware and dishes, unfortunately we found bugs inside in the kitchen but the property management group that was hosting us responded fairly quickly and provided traps and spray. The view on the water is amazing, and the pool area is nice however the beach really isnt much since beyond the wall you see in the photo is a couple feet of sand which the water is regularly covering with waves, and not even six feet out are plenty of rocks, there is a small sandy area out next to the property that is shared with the next condo over. Im not sure snorki right out here would be good as the rocks are as high as the water in many areas, however the turtles come up almost to shore! Also there is a public beach area not 5 min walk away, and its a short drive to kanaapali beach as well. There are some shopping areas close by with a Farmers market that has some nice local made dishes, and some organic foods, and for regular shopping there is a Times supermarket within easy walking distance. Its a bit far to get to the east side of the island but well see how that is as we stay here.
Stayed here for a long weekend, super great.
The view was life!!!! The sound of the waves oh!!! And before I forget the sunset and sunrise ummm!!! Love every bite of my stay .
Excelent position with a wonderful view on the ocean right under the lanai, lovely appartment and friendly staff. We had an amazing time in Maui and this was the best possible choice.
Great Condo. Beautiful and just perfect
Comfortable condo with a great ocean view
The hosts Tony and Debbie are the greatest people on earth!!!
Beautiful ocean front property
If you have young children, do not come here. Children are not welcome at the Kulekane, we learned the hard way. This is not a kid friendly building, in fact Id call it children-hostil. There is a pool. Every time I brought my kids to it, I either got the stink eye and or told that my kids were too loud. They were not. They were just being kids in a pool, playing and laughing. I was actually stunned the first time I was asked to quiet them down, I thought he was joking because seriously they made no more noise than 4 adults enjoying each others company. Heres a lovely quote from another renter, I raised my kids, I dont come here to listen to you raise yours. So unless you prescribe to the notion that kids should be seen and not heard, stay away from the Kulekane. If we had come here without kids, we probably wouldnt be aware that there is such hostility towards the humans who are not yet grown.
Wonderful place to stay while in Hawaii
