Facility is great but please improve on your phone call skills. On the phone I asked how to get a guest pass. I followed their directions, brought a note with my mom’s signature, and copy of her driver license. I arrived there and they told me that my mom needed to be there with me to let me go through. They didn’t tell me that over the phone but they let me slide for that day. Also teens can get a free membership there. All you have to do is go in with a parent for them to sign forms, show them your canvas page, and the free membership expires on August 31.I like the caution wet floor signs in the bathroom, they are bananas.
It was any forts time here from San Antonio. I was invited to a LGBT pride Zumba event and I was one of the instructors. In the middle of the show my body decides to shut down. I had a panic attack but the staff from this place reacted promptly. From the cleaning lady all the way to the top manager were pending on what I needed. The called 911 so they could take a deeper look to my condition but without the rapid response from all the the staff it could be worse. Congrats to all for the right training on cases like these! Keep the good work!
Very convenient to our neighborhood. Good machine collection although they remove some from time to time, seemingly randomly (my 2 favorite machines).Bad side is the help. They are not..helpful. Most stand around and do nothing all day. None can answer questions nor show any interest in getting answers. So you are left with things like… half the lockers are broken with no solution to be heard. Frustrating. Poorly managed.
I love the group exercise classes! The instructors really push you to do your best and everyone is so supportive of one another. It really feels like a big family when you walk in the door.
Great atmosphere, great programs, lovely facility. Both an indoor and outdoor pool. My only wish would be an indoor walking track.
My wife and I visited this YMCA location for the first time today and I must say the energy there was awesome, I had a great shoulder workout and she had a phenomenal leg workout, reaching a squat PR!!!We will definetly be back on the next free Saturday we have!!
Everyone who works at the front desk has no idea the operations and consistently gives wrong information and refuses to be of any help. Absolutely incompetent.
Its so good i like the pool iam going there today
Group exercise classes on Tuesday are awesome; instructor (Yenny) very outgoing, attentive to the needs of our older members and always gracious
Awesome classes with terrific teachers. Tai Chi, BodyJam, Bellydance, Barre, Yoga... they have it all!
When I was 9 years old, I came here for swim lessons. I was 5’4 at that age which is extremely tall for a kid and I never had swam in my life before due to moving reasons. I told the presumably high school student lifeguards that I didn’t want to go first to show how I was at swimming. They kept pushing and we went back and forth for a while. I looked back at my mom and she was no where in sight, so I was forced to go first in front of everyone. I then was told to float and I told them I didn’t know how to. They still made me and kept telling me to, “just try,” even when I was saying no. At this point I tried and almost drowned and after God knows how long, I was pulled out of the water by someone that wasn’t around us before. I was traumatized and have never gone back for swimming lessons or anything else. I felt violated and like my consent was taken away, and I might be an adult now, but no child deserves that.
Staff was very welcoming. ZUMBA class rocks. Children’s area was very clean and the staff was very kind and present with them. They are all a blessing to the community.
I like the group exercise classes because the instructors push me harder than I would push myself.
I love the classes!
These people let my first grader be sent home on a bus and didnt call anyone to say she never showed up at day care. I didnt find out about it until hours later. Thank God the bus driver took her back to the school. They refuse to discuss what happened and why they didnt realize she wasnt there, even though my son was there and he told them she was supposed to be there. This is outrageous. Do not trust your children to these people -- its basically a warehouse for children and they dont care if your kid shows up or not.
I have been a member of this facility for 12 years. The instructors are so nice and helpful. They take the time to get to know all of the members which I like. They motivate you which makes you want to attend. The employees greet you with a warm welcome and take the time to learn your name. I’ve been a part of other gyms in the past and this is by far the best facility.
Been an on and off member for over the years, due to personal reasons not because of the service.Took one swimming lesson here. If you are going to take swim lessons, you have to get over your fears first. They wont help you with that. The class was for young adults and older.Wish the gym had more space, but what do you expect? its a family place.I primarily used this place for swimming ( i learned how to swim here, but with the help of YouTube) and the gym.The pull factor of this place is the coziness and family element of it all.nice staff.I LOVE THE POPCORN IN THE VENDING MACHINE.
I have been trying to cancel my membership. I spoke with someone last month because they charged me. They said I had to fill out a form online and put in for a reimbursement and they will let me know. This was October 13th when I submitted everything after I told them that no one mentioned that I had to fill anything out to cancel. Haven’t heard anything since. I noticed on November 1st, I was charged for a membership again. I have called 5 times since and I only got ahold of someone once. And they said they would pass my information over to the person that handles it because they weren’t in yet. I haven’t heard from anyone in two days. I do not recommend this place. They are horrible in contacting people back and sometimes when you call you can never get ahold of anyone.
Great Water Exercise classes. Sumba Water classes starting soon.
Excellent facilities and well maintained equipment and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Plenty of parking available and easy to access from major freeway and road. I would recommend this location to anyone who is looking for a great facility that truly not only can impact your life but the facility also supports the community
A YMCA, like all recreational exercise facilities, is only as good as it’s staff, and the Monty Ballard YMCA staff is top notch. My wife and I joined in 2012 when we moved to Katy and have met the most wonderful people and made the greatest friends. The staff is always responsive, knowledgeable and helpful. We highly recommend this YMCA to anyone who appreciates great facilities, equipment and people.
The weight machines here are really nice. Theres a wide variety of them, and they even count your reps for you. I also occasionally use the indoor pool for lap swimming, and the pool is ridiculously short. Only 17 yards, instead of the usual 25. The short length makes it more difficult to track my yardage, and I dont feel like I get as good of a workout due to pushing off from the sides more often. It would be nice if the outdoor pool was heated and/or open year-round for lap swimming.
All y employees treat me with respect and very friendly. When not sure how a piece of new equipment works y employees always show me how to work efficiently.Love the water aerobics classes and Latin dancing.Enjoy all the new equipment in the gym.Love the refer a friend and get a month free program..Love the Christian music too..
We have been members since 2016 and like the place a lot. We are there because of Robertos Latin Dance class, which is awesome. However, the other day, my husband was approached in a strange way by a lady calling herself the director. She sat near him and asked to speak with him in private. She asked him if he uses deodorant because she received reports that he smelled bad. My husband not only uses deodorant but also is a teacher, showers every day and is a clean person. No one has complained about his smell before. Either this lady approached the wrong person or she was discriminating my husband but he felt very humiliated and uncomfortable. There are people who smell really bad and no one tells them anything because it is a gym and people sweat!***UPDATE: After sending a complaint e-mail, my husband was called by another director who was very ashamed of the other ladys attitude towards him and apologized so we can feel welcome there again. This is how a professional staff member acts! Thank you Ms. Jorgenson.
Great place! It has all I need to exercise while my child is at child watch. The equipment is updated, clean, and very diverse. I love the people that work there; they are always whiling to help and very courteous.
I love this place to work out! They just recently got all new equipment in the weight room and the cardio room. And everyone is just so nice. The childcare is much better than Lifetime in my opinion. They have activities for the kids to do, and they all know your kids by name.
BodyPump and Latin Dance are my favorites. I like the muscle building machines. Office staff and coaches are extremely friendly and welcoming. I like the family environment of the facility.
There are a wide variety of exercise and wellness programs to choose from. The child watch area is great and has very convenient hours of operation. You have to be careful when registering for group sports. I registered for 5 year old soccer at the Monty Ballard location and when the schedule arrived, all activities were at Katy Main Street which did not work for me. Trying to get a refund after cancelling for this reason was not an easy task either. I still like the location but I am rather disappointing in my youth sports experience. (edited to include youth sports experience)
Visited from Denver and the staff is super sweet and helpful! Christian helped me fix my squat form in the weight room and gave great tips. Thanks all!
Wonderful place, friendly staff and members. Child watch is fantastic, my kids love it. Highly recommend.
Great place to work out in a Christian environment. Great services for the price! Nice and clean!
I love this place. The staff are friendly and the group exercise are my best. They have multiple activities even for the kids while parent work out. It is family friendly. I wish it cost less though.
Love the staff and facilities here! I enjoy the yoga and pilates classes.
COMPLETELY AGREE with the person who said they will rip you off! It is so true, and the staff does lie a lot. They overcharged me for several months and have not given me a refund for the difference yet. I am still waiting to see something in writing that shows that their policy changed and the change is the reason for the increased rate. I have called several times for their manager, Julian, but of course, he never comes to the phone or calls back. The customer service is TRASH at Monty Ballard YMCA.
Great for the whole family. Plenty of great classes for the parents to choose from and the staff is great at entertaining and keeping your kids happy with activities.
The staff is always friendly and helpful.I enjoy the variety of classes offered.
It is incredible how bad the recreational sports are run. Year after year things get worst. We love the Y over all but this is for sure out last year.
My family has been members for 3 years. The facility is clean and friendly. The classes are great. The weight room could be expanded. Child watch is great overall but there is a high turnover of staff. The outdoor pool is great for small kids.
Great place and friendly staff mostly. Wish they have more interesting things for children above five at child care. My kids always say there is nothing much to do there. But for younger kids I guess they do have activities planned.
I love this pace it is great place for the entire family to workout! The front staff is always very helpful. They always have top of the line equipment. Facilitates are always very clean.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. GREAT FACILITY W/ AN OUTSTANDING & A SUPPORTIVE STAFF.
Absolutely terrible service! They dont answer calls or emails and when you finally get up there to take care of an issue, you wait at least 20 minutes and theyre rude and unhelpful.Staff is inexperienced and untrained. Customer service is non-existent and the few awesome instructors, are no longer there. My daughter is in after-school YMCA care, at her school and was left at the playground yesterday! Shes six! Absokutely UNACCEPTABLE and no one cared! The teachers, directors, no one. Anyone can just walk in and sign your kid out, no IDs have to be shown. Sometimes they like to leave a door propped open with a clipboard on a chair while they are nowhere to be found 😡. Im looking for other options, more expensive or not! Also, no family programs or activities at the FAMILY YMCA until age 13 😒. Theres a new location in Katy now, so clearly this one is trying to be shut down.
My sister and I worked in two different departments and both hated it. Management sucks and does not communicate with employees at all and they give you the run around. I was excited to work there but they do not care about their employees at all!
Internet wi-fi is good, staff is friendly, machines are available and the coffee canteen is a nice touch at the end of the workout.
This place is absolutely incredible. I pay $80 per month for a family membership. It includes free childcare while my wife and I work out. The facilities are quite excellent, with a wide array of workout equipment. The place is pretty packed after work around 4:30 pm, but is still manageable. It has two large pools with a kids water splash zone. And best of all, most of the exercise group classes are free with the membership. It is excellent for socializing and working out! (Former LA Fitness member)
Great family atmosphere and the staff is always warm and friendly!
Hey so I’ve never been here. Is this place good for 11-year olds?
The staff member will make a loud and blatant frustration sound after they find out youre trying to make a plan that works for your family and take advantage of the offer the Y sent to you. I wonder how much commission that older lady with dyed red hair at the front is making per membership. I had questions, she answered. It was less than 10 minutes of her free time at the front desk when it wasnt even busy.
Lots of classes at all times of day and excellent instructors.
Everything was good. But one day their increased the price even without notifying me. When I said that I am going to cancel my family membership, lady on reception just react ok. They dont care about loosening customers.
Good gym, kids love it, my only complaint would be the inconsistency in the Olympic plates, there’s 3 different kinds and a lot of them are somewhat to severely worn. There are no 5lb and 2.5lb weights in at least decent condition. Staff is friendly and it’s always pretty clean.
The Staff is always extra helpful and the it is always very clean and organized. Supervisor Leanne Seed was incredibly knowledgeable and made me feel welcome.
This is a nice facility. Weve been members for years. The staff is friendly and generally helpful. Their prices have been steadily increasing every year...started around $77/month for the family and is now up to $92/month.
Everyone at this location is very nice and friendly, staffs or members like me. Staffs are extremely helpful in helping you with whatever you need. The facility is kept nice, clean and convenient. I love to attend classes in the Cummins (upstairs only room.) There are three classes scheduled back to back almost every morning, Zumba Toning, Yoga, and Pilates. They are just right for me each day and I dont have to go to anything else! Of course there are many other type of classes available throughout the day in various rooms like Group Exercise, Equipment Room, Cycle Studio, Personal Training Studio, Studio 51...plus the pools. I love this YMCA 10 times better than the LifeTime Fitness center nearby. It doesnt have the fancy bathroom with white towels and mirror all around but it definitely has room for me when I go to my selected classes and the membership is only half of what I used to pay. Id highly recommend Monty Ballard YMCA to friends and family.
Great facilties, friendly staff and very community sprited, especially recommended for families and the step activity classes are the best!
Very competitive prices, activities and the atmosphere is great. I sponsor and also coach events at this Y and it is been a great part of my childrens life. Many thanks!
Just moved to Cinco Ranch and found this branch only included in citywide option. I live here and why do I want to go other Y? Its unfair for local people if we have to pay extra even if we only need 1 location. Local people should let the Y know this policy is unacceptable!
Love all the strong friendly helpful Les Mills instructors and the staff. Always friendly. Love the programs that my grand daughter were always in over the years. Current one is Fit Kids for summer and school breaks. When younger always liked the kid yoga, zumba and ect classes in the mornings. The swim lessons and private teachers are great. The Family night out is always a favorite.Love that Kid Spin will finally come back this summer!!! Do like the current spin bikes, but the bluetooth on some dont match the number on the bike. Love the new equipment but do wish more room to stretch and work on body by myself. No room now. The personal trainers are great also. The Turkey Dash is our family tradition. Love the Halloween fun dress up time. Miss Healthy Kids Day end of April? I love the Less Mills classes. But wish the Small Group Training had a lower pay senior discount at 68??? Cant do grit and some of the more intense ones. Love the filtered water bottle dispensers BUT REALLY NEED ONE NEXT TO SPIN, YOGA AND GROUP EXERCISE FOUNTAINS??? The busiest area doesnt have one? Middle of hall one gets line and I never go down to childwatch onel I love this Katy YMCA since November 2011. Laura Beth Jackson
It is a great facility and has an abundance of machines and programs
Theres a rude older skinny/tall Caucasian lady at the front desk. Most have great customer service. So far its been a good experience.
I normal dont write reviews and I understand that we are all humans and make mistakes. Last week I passed by and talked to Melissa to get rates and had explained that I have a outdoor pool and I teach special needs kids and if it was okay for them to get a membership too so they can come up and swim with me at the pool and I had said I would totally work my times around the pool classes s that im not taking up space she agreed with me and said she does classes too so it is totally fine. So I went ahead and scheduled an appointment for me to come in and get my membership. I went back on the 24th of September to get my membership the lady that helped me was very nice and answered all of my questions however I mentioned why I needed the membership and she said that it was okay and she didnt see why there would be a problem so I referred few families to get membership for them to meet me there so we can practice out classes. After few days went back and had a great time at the pool and the kids had an awesome swim time. The following week one of my kiddos walked in and a lifeguard came up to me saying that they cannot have me in the pool with a different kid every time...…….KEEP IN MIND THESE KIDS ARE AUTISM NEEDS. so I asked to talk to the manager that was at the pool area and she confirmed that it was not okay for me to be in the pool with a different kids every week. I explained that I had told the front desk upon enrollment that I had told them my issue and they said it was not a problem and she said um my manager will be here soon at 11 am maybe you can talk to him and see what happens. finally I talked to BRANDON WANG aquatics director and I repeated my self again just from him to turn around and tell me that he called Malissa and talked to her and she said that she thought I was talking about family members. Keep in mind I mentioned that I have a swim school but my pool is outdoors so its cold in the winter. How can you all work at the same place and not have the same answers to the same questions????? that just tells me management does not take the time to tell staff important information when it comes down to times like this. so I walked over to the front desk to cancel my membership and talked to Jessica Kimsey she asked why I was canceling and I explained my self however she wanted to confirm with BRANDON WANG i told her again i need to cancel my membership and she said she was confused as to why i needed to cancel. i asked for my refund and she said there wont be no refund even though i was only there less then a week. so from what i understand from all of this that staff members are always confused and have no idea how to work professionally. They are only there to take your money and act like they are confused all the damn time and that is horrible not to mention that people who answer the phone have an attitude and sound like they dont ant to be there...IF I COULD I WOULD GIVE IT A 0 RATE I am very disappointed now i have to refund the swimmers that wanted to swim at the Y and now they all dont want to be there because of this reason
Ive been going here for the last 3 years. While the price is acceptable the equipment is often dirty, left laying out of place for days on end. Broken equipment that stays broken for weeks. Theres nothing spectacular about this Y. Ill be leaving this fall as I have no use for their after school program. Place needs a management change.
The worst ymca I’ve ever been to. There is absolutely no room in the fitness area. Ever since they got new equipment, it only went downhill. The equipment takes up all the room and is flat out unnecessary!! And even worse, the staff is like “tough luck deal with it” well guess what..it’s a 1 star review for this ymca...DONT GO HERE, go to the one on Katy Main Street instead!
I am unhappy with child watch there. My son is 15 month and got injured there and no one knows what happened to him and how. He had a huge bump in the middle of his forehead. After a week investigation by the supervisor nothing was resolved and everyone claims they did not see him fall or cry. Something I just dont believe. I cancelled my membership.
I have been a member of this gym for years. The only reason I attend this gym is for Nancys group ex classes. Otherwise the exuberant membership fee is not worth it. After years, I am forced to cancel my membership. My daughter was barred from childwatch, because she has eczema. A common non-contagious chronic childhood condition. So because she scratched her itchy skin, she was barred. At the time in which she was barred, I offered a doctors clearance letter. The staff declined, and stated that the manager would call me that day, to talk about some medical intake. No mamager ever called me. I received an email, not a phone call as promised, over a week later. I was promised another phone call. No one ever called. Meanwhile, they had my $81, and I was only able to use the facility like twice that month. All because the management and staff clearly dont find me important enough to follow up on promised calls.I spoke with staff in person again, and requested my membership be canceled. They convinced me to stay, based on yet another promise of receiving a call from the manager. Still no call.Even after this, I decided to try again. For the third time. I was again promised a call from a manager. I explained my lack of trust in the facility, as the promise to call had ready been broken twice. I was once again assured, I would receive a call that day. Still no call. And now, I have been billed another $81, yet my daughter is still barred from childwatch for eczema. I gave them a letter from a certified doctor, clearing her for all daycare/childwatch programs. She has been able to go to a certified daycare all day with no problems, but the YMCA childwatch has barred her for just a couple of hrs per week. Yet she still cant come back, and the management isnt making any efforts to contact me to complete this silly medical intake for eczema. I am very sad to have to cancel my membership, as I Iive for those group ex classes. I just cannot continue to pay three times as much as the average gym membership, to be treated this way.
This place is fun and safe for everyone in the family
Best Les Mills classes in the area. M-F 5:15am bodypump and spin classes are excellent. Every day has great instructors.
YMCA increased my membership price without sending me a notice. I applied for financial assistance was approved and two months later they decide I dont qualify and increase price. Beware of unexpected price change so frustrating!!
Pool is always 70% shut down for swim lessons. Dont bother swimming here. Not family friendly. Basketball and swimming is all that is available for children on normal hours. Basketball court is shut down for small group of men often.Watch out for being treated poorly by staff hang around enough and you will see.YMCA is not family friendly its more along the lines of LA fitness or 24 hr fitness but not as good as those are.
The front desk customer service is horrible. First time service during enrollment for membership is good but after that it goes downhill. Not to mention the high membership fee of $78/month which gives accesss to the whole facility irrespective of you need it or not. There is no minimum basic level membership fee which is different from the Alief YMCA that I used to be a member of. If someone needs access to only one thing they will have to pay for the whole facility. Their communication is bad as well. They do not call back at all.
This is a great Y to belong to. Great equipment, the people are friendly, and the pools are amazing.
Great club - my family and I love the Katy YMCA. Great machines, clean and great spinning classes.
I really like that place. Its good.
Signed up for Spring League program. Cant even use the gyms for practice on the daily; payed a good $175 for a load of nothing. Cant even sign in as a guest with a friend who has current membership, despite me having previous membership and when I tried to contact them for a 1 day guest-pass, it literally takes me to a useless phone center where I apparently have to know the name of one of the workers to contact them. I highly dont recommend going here unless you already have a membership and know what youve already gotten yourself into. Very unappealing and thus a waste of time.
They will rip you of your price and the staff lie a lot . I had put my account on freeze for 3 months and I had told before resuming I would come to the branch to fill out the form . Without my knowledge These folks directly deducted 103$ and have refused reimbursement. Worst folks .
The facility itself is very nice. Have experienced discrimination from both staff and participants. Beware.
The MONTY BALLARD YMCA in Katy has really helped me get in shape and stay there.
CHANGE the mans locker room,or at Least adjust it plz.The first time I went in there i literally saw a naked man sitting on a bench it was disgusting and the wash room is exposed.Im scared for life 😭 And by the way Im flipping 10 YEARS OLD
Lifeguards are rude and lazy. The pool area is really the only good thing this facility to offer.
Good place for spending time with family and kids
Convenient, clean, & well equipped but no Sauna.
Really need to expand the weight room and cardio section. It often gets EXTREMELY crowded!
They make it as hard as possible to cancel your membership, knowing that youll keep paying for it long after you stop using it. Basically a scam.
Friendly staff and helpful.
Best recreational and family center for active families in Katy
Somebody stole my jacket, I talked to the manager who told me the YMCA doesn’t take responsibility for any item lost, I told her that at least I would like to see a sign nearby that said that it is at your risk to hang your jacket at the entrance of the wellness center and her response was we have signs around the gym. I had to file a police report in order to find out who took my jacket. My comment for the YMCA is that the signs SHOULD be very clear in the place near where we hang the jackets. Those who use the exercise room DON’T trust to hang your jacket: leave it under lock.
Great class schedule, instructors and facility!!!
Great facility!
Great staff and friendly members!
Nice place and good service
Love this place now.
Katy ParsonS. West will Miss you
Awful front desk and coordinators..unprofessional..
Young people working in the front desk at this YMCA that doesnt know how to handle situations when it comes to bringing a family guest to this Gym......
I love it
Good i love it
Amazing!
